this is one of the most useful tech channels on youtube. your main is amazing but this is just icing on the cake
Thanks for the updated testing, would be great if this will continue for future products aswell, like the upcoming oled g9
Thanks for the follow-up! 🙏🏻
I started the update about 2hrs ago and it's still on 95%... 🤭
LG did a great job. Like what stops them selling a flash light as a monitor with 2000 nits brightness with only a single color, yes, but it's bright.
Thank you for the update! Hopeful to see an Asus 27" Swift Rog 240Hz OLED review in the future.
its got hdmi 2.0 lol
@@GravyBoat1 lol most people buy these for a pc not a console and that's still enough for the monitor max refresh rate
@@junde. compressed image
Probably a bit late but the update also changes the Black Stabilizer. Prior to the update it would increase in +10 increments only. Post update, it now increases in +5 increments and also seems to have a higher saturation point overall ie my pre update setting was at 60, post update I had to move it to 70 to get the same effect.
Thanks a lot. I bought last week
Thanks for the updated review. I'll be holding off on this and the Asus PG29AQDM which has it's own set of issues. Maybe 2024 will bring the monitors we deserve.
Great Video! Finally confirmation on nits difference as I too only see 8-15nits increase on Vivid mode with the new firmware.
Vivid mode is ass. Don't know how any could actually use that.
Thanks for your honest opinion
Seems we're 1-2 panels away from a reliable oled experience on desktop with
1. pixel refreshing to further reduce burn in
2. rgb stripe alignment to have proper clear text rendering
3. Some brightness improvements to offset people that will both consume games/media and work in a semi lit environment (possibly with better coating)
rgb stripe allignment wouldn't matter if Microsoft worked on their crap
But this monitor has pixel/image cleaning...
I feel that by the time OLED becomes viable for anything other then media consumption, NanoLED will arrive and replace it.
Honestly the 42 inch tv is a better buy
OLED won't be reliable until there's some new, better, but unreliable technology on the market.
Je reçois mon exemplaire dans quelques jours, hâte d'en publier une review de mon côté. Quels sont les "vrais" et "faux" problèmes sur l'écran, je suis curieux de voir la différence entre les chiffres et la réalité.
130min update time!!!
Thanks
Hi, will you be reviewing the Acer X32 FP? Thanks for your work!
Been waiting goer this video
You can continue using the monitor even while updating it so it wasn't that bad. I was afraid I broke something though before I talked to a couple of people and saw it work fine.
Hi,
Will you review the Asus rog PG27AQDM and compare it with the LG ?
I bought the LG and I do like it, also so no changes after the update. I really like it but I have to admit, it's unfortunate that HDR is just not usable daily since a full white window (when I work) is extremly dim in that mode... I don't understand why it's this way since it can get a lot brighter when you reduce the window size...
Hey Tim, I heard that the overshoot issues have been fixed with this firmware. Would be interesting to see response times retested
I have an oc 4k monitor nd tried this update but it doesn't fix anything, thinking about returning it
Great that u test this, hope Samsung update they Oled G8 and fix many problems with it.
Any new Firmware Update for the 27GR95QE? I love the firmware update videos! And I am going to buy a 27GR95QE, wish there is more firmware update coming to make this monitor better!
thx so much
is there any more update on this monitor after a year? its cheaper that its competitor in our country, like aroud $200-300 cheaper with the same panel like the Asus PG27AQDM, is it still a better deal to get this on 2024 despite the newer models are coming? the price tag is around $750 here and the Asus is $1k-1.1k.
When are you guys getting the Asus PG27AQDM? I hope to god it works like it's supposed too
Hello, what is better for the monitor, turn it off by remote control or just have the energy-saving mode done after the PC has been shut down?
The update is available for the 45" as well
Best monitor I’ve ever owned. I always play in a dark room so brightness isn’t an issue, it’s perfectly bright enough and I don’t see why everyone is obsessed with brightness 😂 also can’t even notice the matte finish at all. People just love to moan
Same here. Even in a bright room I have no complaints but to be fair i've been using a QLED TV before getting this and I do notice the matte finish since I switch from the TV to the monitor and the same content is up. So I am curious to see how this monitor would look with a gloss finish or any gloss monitor. But its just curiosity, no complaints otherwise.
"I play in a dark room"
"I don't see why everyone is so obsessed with brightness"
Ever considered the possibility that not everyone plays in a dark room?
@@glub1381 It’s still fine in a bright room, the brightest setting hurts my eyes 😂 I always use 80% brightness. I’ve seen many people complain it’s still too dark for a dark room, talk absolute nonsense
@@glub1381then dont buy a oled
Any word on when you guys might get the Asus PG27AQDM?
thx for video
Thanks for the video, but what I’m really curious about is the 50% APL brightness figure and below.
I would bet the brightness has changed more substantially as opposed to 100% APL as it’s noticeable in game now under SDR.
In my Case i have this one and a 77 oled c2. For my living room i wish some brighter experience but for a monitor where i sit direct in front the peak brightness is really high enough
BadSeed Tech re-tested the new firmware and found the panels 60hz inverse ghosting to be close to identical (a good improvement) to the ASUS monitor.
I remember when this monitor was unreleased. we all speculated that we have finally found the promise land. But it launched plagued with low brightness. I was ready to cast my G7 aside for it. I am still eagerly waiting for someone to sell an oled with a brighter panel in this form factor.
mine out of the box had this firmware hope its not a bug
Any plans to look at the LG OLED Flex? It’s a C2 but with changes to the build and finish. Would love to see you review it.
actually its more like a cx look at the customer reviews
amazing thank you for being a legend
I found that CPC enable set off and LEA refreash enable set to OFF in service menu is crucial settins for this monitor. Can you make another video about these settings and hopefully LG will include these settings in menu for next firmware. Thanks!
Can you review the Corsair variation? It has good IO
On color accuracy for gamer 2, can we just tweak color settings in Windows or Nvidia control panel to get it more accurate? I think it's absolutely fine, I haven't had any issues with brightness but am not someone who's had experience with HDR or seeing what a 1000nit in game light looks like against a dark background.
It looks great, has a good form factor and isn't overly gamey in it's appearance (could pass for a regular monitor, which I like) - so I don't think I'd want to go with the Asus(still within the return window)
The answer is yes. Especially reducing the saturation is really making it usuable. I use a little tool to manage brightness of my setup because I am next to a windows and change brightness all the time. It also supports saturation modification. It is called "ClickMonitorDDC". It keeps the better brightness, so you can get those super bright effects in games like Cyberpunk. It does not fix the color luminance issues of WOLED though, so it looks still less balanced.
Not sure if this is worth it, but I’m really curious to know if you could make a video on the monitor settings that can be adjusted to make the perfect gaming experience for SDR/HDR. Like gamma, brightness, contrast, sharpness, color temp, black stabilizer, game mode.
Not every unit is the same. You could check for some SDR settings on Rtings and maybe they have other settings there too like for the C2. For example I just bought a new monitor and this thing is freaking green tinted even in presets.
Speaking of the looong firmware update, it took 2 hours 10 minutes for me. I can't imagine why it should take so long. There can't really be a good reason for it. The first 50 percent went by in a few minutes. The last 50 percent absolutely crawled. I hope any future updates don't have the same problem. >_
what monitor did you have before and how many nits did it provide?
The monitor ran out of ram and started page filing on ROM
Asus oled took onlt 7 minutes lol but was still garbage hdr and picture tracking smh . lg c2 42 is my primary now
They have to update each led individually, that is why it takes so long
Could you please review the dell g3223q model?
I have sensitive eyes and Peak Brightness makes me cringe! Aside from the WOLED issues, I prefer the PG42UQ! I never have to adjust the brightness, aside from uniform brightness @ 59 Brightness for desktop.
For me this is a blessing that his particular monitor isn't super duper bright.
Can you do the Alienware AW2723DF? Thanks!
Appreciate the updated testing on this Tim (along with all your other content).
I'm hoping, since my 27GR95QE hasn't arrived yet, that the updated firmware will already be applied once it arrives.
lol It doesn't work that fast, bro. You're getting a monitor that's been already built and shipped to the retailer.
Tobe are you in Australia and have you got a shipping notification yet for yours?
@@joshuabrain9751 Yes I am in Australia. Ordered mine on the 25th of March. I'm sure (when I was ordering).

No shipping notification yet. Still says 'on hold'. I rang LG today and they said if it hasn't turned up by the 14th to ring them again.
I've checked some retailers and their ETAs are from the 17th-18th of April. Although others have no ETA at all.

off topic, what is the difference between aoc 24g2sp and 24g2spe?
Do you think there's any chance they will fine tune the overdrive settings to get rid of inverse ghosting in a future firmware update?
How bad would this be in day-to-day gaming? It's one of those little nitpicks that I can't shake.
I don't own this monitor yet, but judging by those overshoot numbers and ufo test images at lower refresh rates, it could be pretty jarring for some.
@@giantpizzasunset2534 It is an oled... there's no ghosting.
@@QOTSAPT This model, according to reviews, apparently does have inverse ghosting. Look at the charts in the review video. Even Rtings mention it in their review under cons.
A bit of a random question. Lg has released a firmware update for c3 to improve screen dimming, do you guys know if this update has rolled to c2 and c1 yet?
No. It's been only on the x3 models.
Disappointing 9 nits

I think this monitor will be perfect for me as I have a light sensitivity problem[ keratoconus]. I just ordered this monitor on Amazon for 900$ in my country, I wanted to get the Alienware qd oled but it was 1400$, I will wait for the 34inch 240hz till then will use the lg 240hz 1440p oled.

@@big_burro13I picked up the g9 oled instead I got it for 1440$
Guys, it is bright enough. I bought it even after watching these negative reviews. Its all about the settings, afterwards its amazing. Mostly play CS GO and you barely feel any input lag. Love it so far.
i have it on vivid and gamer 1 I wish it was 15 to 20 percent brighter
@@silent6snipes135 I put mine on vivid as well, only mode that has great sdr brightness and color accuracy

Pulling the trigger on this monitor because of this comment🔥 thank you
@kevox9933 Yoo i was considering OLED and also play CSGO lot how is this monitor? Any complaints or its all good?
The bug were games default to 4K is still present and leaving a nasty overlay on my ps5 crosshair! Wish they would address the fix for the consoles 😢
My local Costco is selling a LG 27GR95QE-B. Is than an updated version?
Are you going to review Asus ROG PG27AQDM?
Can you review the new Acer Predator X32 FP, please?
Review the GS model please.
I downloaded the update and installed it but never got a pop up to update firmware.
Where can I find that house/cabin in the snow wallpaper?
I used google lens to find this picture for you..
Google lens is a app where can find images by scanning the image.
It also translate Text.
I just made a snapshot in google lens and voila.
When does the asus version come out?
Can it be hardware calibrated for sRGB colorspace for SDR usage without oversaturation?
And less importantly (for me at least) is it possible to calibrate HDR mode to mitigate color inaccuracies? Despite HDR EOTF being alright, I don't see myself using the HDR mode with such color errors.
I think my monitor might be defective. I tired connecting the monitor with the USB cable it came with on both my PC and Mac. Both my systems will not recognize my monitor for the update. I keep getting a Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) on Windows 11.
Are your monitor recording in HDR?
My concerns and need to knows: does this unit handle tonemapping (by not altering creator intent) with hgig or a tonemapping off feature? I can handle 600-700 nits in hdr but will the overall hdr image quality stay on par with LG C2. Contrast and not messing with tonemapping on windows 11 are paramount in the decision. I am prepared for less "pop" going Matta vs glossy...and will accept that. ..but man once you game with a hgig minded tonemapping feature HDR can be played in no other way. IMHO.
Picked it up and tested it out. Mixed feelings. Next to no calibration options in HdR mode (as opposed to the C2). And no ability to disable tonemapping or hgig format. Tonemapping in hdr is no amazing. Still testing...

Mine has posterization issues even in youtube dark mode, inverse ghosting in dark images that glow when you move the camera. Bad gradient color that is only fixable with reshaded film grain. it also suffers from vignetting. Have you encountered these problems or is mine faulty? Sorry for the english but i used a translator
45" version:
-vingieting yes, bad screen uniformity
-posterization - i don't know what is it
-inverse ghosting, I think no
-bad gradient color - I can see banding, yes.
what about the 45inch 240hz oled version of it? is it same brightness as 27 inch? very dim?
nah, the 45 inch ultrawide is brighter because its the same resolution in a bigger form factor (effectively the same, extra pixels to the side of course), which allows the panel to get brighter. The reason LG can't push the 27 inch brighter is because of how dense the pixels are. Should improve in a couple years tho
@@remy7005 45" is also baadd.. I have one
@@RESURRECT2 oh yeah, but it is brighter than the 27” model.

We're still atleast a couple generations away from OLED being the go-to for everyone, especially those that aren't willing to baby their monitors and jump through all the hoops that come with keeping this burn-in free. That being said though I can't imagine going back to a normal IPS, OLED is just too good even with all the shortcomings it has
Not with that text rendering. IPS is far superior.
@@michael.burman Sure, for productivity right now IPS is the king, I was referring to media consumption
IPS glow killed IPS gaming for me. Fucking infuriating being in a dark scene and having a permanent orange vignette
OLEDs are not changing. This is the best the tech can do. MLA is on this panel and that's basically the end of the road. The problems that "plague" OLED now are the same ones plaguing it since the first generation 15 years ago. If these issues could be fixed they would have been fixed in 2015. I own a CX and about to get my monitor in the next week or 2. This is what you are buying and you know the drawbacks going in.

What is 10% window sustained brightness
Almost bought this monitor :(
How do you get good results in HDR mode? I tried Diablo II Resurrected and A Plague Tale Innocence, and both look horrible with HDR enabled. In D2R you can adjust a lot of things, but none of it makes a good picture. Easy to spot at the intro screen with the logo. It either gets some kind of colour banding around it, like a glowing effect, or the game is so dark, you think the monitor is broken.
With A Plague Tale's HDR setting the contrast seems to crash completely. Black gets gray and white gets yellow. It just looks awful.
But both look amazing in SDR mode! Perfect black, good contrast, rich colours...
I'm a D2R fan and you have me worried. I never had an OLED display before and I'm somewhat interested by the LG. Have you found the problem/cause of your issue?
@@Rhialto Don't worry, just keep it on SDR, it looks amazing!
If you want to try HDR, there are 3 sliders you can play around with. Imho there is no good setting possible, something seems to go wrong with the software.

The ASU’s has really bad text when hooked up to a pc
Asus is objectively terrible
Asus is better because you can disable vignetting effect permanently

@@cancerousnut7767 theres also new more affordable monitors. maybe not pushing limits like OLED but i dont find the price being equal to high end GPUs very attractive. it wouldnt hurt to show new monitors competing for the rank of top budget choice.
But you can adjust temperature in gamer 2 tho ......
Does this firmware update disable the vignette effect? Having to buy a remote to disable it every time you turn it on is ridiculous.
I found that CPC enable set off and LEA refreash enable set to OFF in service menu is crucial settins for this monitor. Hopefully LG will include these settings in menu for next firmware.

I understand that people want lower brightness, but atleast with other monitors you have a wide range for various use cases. With this, youre stuck with it, and when the time comes youre left with nothing.
I never understand people who have a preference for lower brightness seemingly getting upset that people want more brightness from a monitor. It doesn't affect them at all. Just lower the brightness or don't watch the video about the firmware update that allows more brightness for those that were left wanting.
@@FrowningTaco "Just lower the brightness" - what if even at 0/100 brightness setting it's still too bright?

I would accept the bad color accuracy in bright scenes for the higher brightness. But the gamma curve is just terrible and unacceptable to me.
What I don't get is: why are all the configurations locked in HDR? Let me tweak RGB values in HDR. Let me choose a gamma curve. Add an option for "blue HDR boost". That shouldn't be too hard.
My panel has a slight green tint in SDR (with corrected color temperature) and HDR. No problem, just take green down 2 notches and it looks wonderful.
But I can't do that in HDR. I have to use software calibration in windows which isn't as nice and can't be ported to other devices.
I tried to eyeball the Gamer 2 preset together with software calibration and it did kind of work but the gamma tracking isn't easy to fix without equipment which i don't have.
It is so close to being perfect (for me) but there are these small seemingly unnecessary oversights.
can you do a test please? set gamer 1 / brightness 60 / contrast 60 and open youtube and see if you have color banding in dark mode. can you check with the same settings to see if you have color banding in darker games and if you have inverse ghosting between transitions between black and white?
On my 45" variant Gamer 1 is soooo yelowish. It's just bad (and hdr like 600).
On Gamer 2 hdr is like 800-1000, buut... GAMMA CURVE. Everything is just bleak, no contrast. Especially you can see "flat faces", they are ugly and have so much blue in the shadows, unnatural...
@@ando7020 you probably have set the black stabalizer to a value above 50-60.
