    This came out at the perfect time. Yesterday I missed a curveball up in the zone and popped it up

      How's it going Elijah? Where are you getting work in? That's good to hear that you are playing...and seeing pitches. Sometimes, you might miss the curveball up...but more frequently, you will bash the curveball up.

    Hey Jermaine, I was wondering how to adjust to hit a slow curveball on a fast pitcher. Usually I miss curveballs when the pitcher has a fast fastball and I’m thinking I need to swing earlier. Then the curveball comes in and I swing way to early and miss it by a mile. This video has really helped me out a lot.
    Thanks!

      Hey Ben,
      Thanks for reaching out. To answer your question, you will need to stay back, o in other words. Be balanced to hit the slow curveball.
      What you can do is when your practicing with a friend or parent, have them front toss you the ball pretty fast and then, without telling you throw a floater, once in awhile. What you will do is start staying back and you will start hitting the fastball to the opposite field.

    Wow, Jermaine, that was great! Can the way the pitcher’s arm finishes tell you what pitch it is or is there not enough time? It’s hard to see arm slot differences, at least for me.

      I did both of those immediately after watching!
      I didn’t play baseball, I just could never hit a moving ball; I played football and was successful at the high school level (it helped that my team was really good too). However, my son LOVES baseball and took to it as a toddler. I have had to teach myself the things about baseball that I never learned in order to coach my son, as well as his team of 6-8 year olds. This video right here, with those amazing camera glasses, that’s exactly what I need for the future! Gotta stay a few steps ahead!

    I'm curious with that approach, looking for something up in the zone, where was your horizontal cutoff line? Above the belt?
    My son has a lot of trouble swinging at pitches in the dirt both curves and changeup. Would you say the same approach works on a changeup?
    Thank you!

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Ron,
      Thanks for watching. He has to find his cut off point for him. As for the approach for curveball and change ups, it works for all off speed because since you're hunting the fast ball up, you're going to take the curveball and change ups which are normally down. If the curveball and change up is up, that's easy to hit and he will naturally hit it.

      Thank you very much for the reply! That makes sense.
      I was wondering if I could ask another quick question regarding that approach. Let's say your originally sitting up and you work the count into your favor (hitters count) do you modify your mindset at that point (lower your zone) or do you still sit up? Just wondering if this approach is fluid (changing) throughout an at bat.
      Thank you!

    • @ronsmith1349
      @ronsmith1349 2 роки тому +1

      I guess what I'm asking is my son says he's primarily looking for that thigh high fastball on the inner 3rd, would you open up for that in a hitters count or still sit top of zone?

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  2 роки тому +1

      No, I wouldn't modify the approach because that was the best way for me to drive the baseball. I would always look up in the zone in hitters counts.

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  2 роки тому +1

      I would tell him to look for the ball up in the zone and I wouldn't necessarily say look inside, because thst could pull you away from other pitches. I looked up in the zone but middle so I was able to make adjustments
