    So true what you said about where you are hitting in the order. I was a leadoff hitter since I was 9 years old through college. Always felt comfortable taking until I got a strike. As a lefty mostly facing righties, got fastballs probably 70% of the time, since pitchers never want to walk the leadoff hitter. Would have loved to get scouting reports like the pros get - I would have hit .500 and been a millionaire! As a coach, I had a rule that if you swung at a first pitch off speed ball and didn't hit a homer or a double, you were doing laps and pushups the next practice. Just finished my son's high school season. Had a dad, a wannabe coach, say every time for every batter when they were down in the count, "sit fastball, adjust to the curve." I wanted to punch him in the face. So annoying.

    Great video Matt, and you're right I have heard that phrase more times than I can count lol but what happens if the pitcher throws a curve around the outside part of the plate?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  6 років тому

      Thanks! Depends on the count. 2 strikes you need to swing and fight it off. Thanks for watching!!!

    I have a great video topic I think, How Do umpires get treated by the league? Free stadium food? Free tickets ? How do they travel, pay ?

    Hey Coach. I really appreciate the video but I’m just concerned about being in a count with less than three balls and already having one strike on me letting a breaking ball go by me for strike two and having to really battle. What do I do there?

    Any advice for someone just getting into baseball? Next year I’ll be a junior and I want to play for my hs team I’ve been going to the batting cages and I can consistently make contact but I usually foul off like 7/12 and once this happens I end up getting frustrated and then my whole swing is off

      CLOUTIKAGE OF THE HIDDEN CLOUT VILLAGE .....Get a cheap wooden bat....go to an open field and self toss gum drop size stones to yourself. I promise you....you will learn how to apply the sweet part of the bat to any given ball location. Try it......its alot of fun also if you play an imaginary game.

    Jeez Matt, I could've used this about 8 years ago before I began my downward slide into becoming a PO in College. I sucked at hitting curveballs but I mashed fastballs and I eventually got like 1 fastball per at bat

    What if the fastball is inside and you try to take it the other way? Or if the breaking ball is outside and your barrel is out in front of it?

    Do you think playing MLB the show would help any hitter of any age, develop a sense of when to sit on pitches and what to sit on in certain counts?.

      Daniel Bencosme Lol. Good one.

    • @felmin809

      D Bach I play MLB the show on legend and with sliders all the way up. And I just struggle so much at hitting. I've started to sit on pitches and I've gotten better. It's tough man, baseball is tough. U need elite hand and eye coordination

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  6 років тому

      Hmmm that is a good question! I don't play enough to really know, but interesting thought! Thanks for watching!!!

    • @HatWearingDog
      @HatWearingDog 6 років тому

      I don’t think it would help with hitting too much, but if you play Road To The Show, I’ve noticed when fielding I’ve gotten better at situational fielding (runners on corners, man on second, loaded up, etc.)

    Couldn't you see the spin of the ball and know exactly what the pitch is? I know the best hitters have said they can do this. If they know the release point and spin, they already know if it's going to be a ball or strike before it even gets to the plate.

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  6 років тому

      It's not that easy as you move up in levels. You see spin, but you can't sit on every pitch it's too tough to adjust. Thanks for watching!!!

    Ever experienced a game being played under protest? Does the game really get replayed if the league sides with the team instead of the umpire?

  • @jimmyg2332
    @jimmyg2332 6 років тому +1

    The only time I'd say anything like this is with two strikes, and I wouldn't call it sitting on fastball. It's more be ready for the fastball to fight it off then have a pitch you think he'll throw.

    Ironically I played 11u baseball today and hit a 2 strike curveball in the right center gap for a double.
