      @@JermaineCurtis55 Really good reinforcement of swing mechanics but you include the “feel”. For us it helps the hitter identify and be able to repeat a sequence when they know what feel they are looking to repeat. Planting the heel was an eye opener for my son, we have been working on having a repeatable strong front leg. We have heard - land on the ball of your foot, use the inside of your foot, etc. when I told him think about digging the heel in to help you put the brakes. Oh that makes sense!!

    Hey Jermaine, in the gym for baseball right now, what should I do for explosiveness and strength to help?

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  День тому

      Build Strength in Key Areas:
      Lower Body: Focus on exercises like lunges, front squats, back squats, and hex bar deadlifts to develop power in your legs and hips, which are crucial for explosiveness in baseball. Add Bulgarian split squats to target single-leg stability and strength.
      Core: Incorporate rotational exercises like Russian twists, Pallof presses, and woodchoppers to mimic baseball-specific movements. Planks and anti-rotation exercises can build core stability, which is essential for transferring power.
      Upper Body: Use bench presses, incline presses, pull-ups, and rows to strengthen your chest, shoulders, and back for throwing and hitting.
      Develop Explosiveness:
      Olympic Lifts: Moves like power cleans, snatches, and clean pulls are excellent for developing full-body explosiveness.
      Plyometrics: Add box jumps, lateral bounds, and depth jumps to train fast-twitch muscle fibers and enhance your explosive power.
      Medicine Ball Work: Perform rotational throws, overhead slams, and scoop tosses to translate gym strength into dynamic, baseball-specific power.
      Turn Strength into Speed:
      Resistance Bands: Use bands for resisted sprints, rotational drills, and explosive push-ups to develop quickness and power in your movements.
      Weighted Vest Work: Incorporate light resistance through vests or sled pushes to simulate explosive movements with added load.
      Train with Variety:
      Alternate between heavy lifting days (for strength) and explosive days (for speed and agility).
      Include sport-specific drills, like rotational med ball throws or resisted swings, to transfer gym gains to the field.
      Prioritize mobility and flexibility with exercises like dynamic stretches, yoga, or mobility circuits to ensure full range of motion and prevent injury.
      Additional Tips:
      Progression: Gradually increase weights and intensity to avoid injury and ensure steady progress.
      Rest and Recovery: Ensure you're getting enough rest between heavy lifting or explosive training days to allow muscle recovery and growth.
      Consultation: Work with a strength and conditioning coach familiar with baseball to tailor a program to your specific needs.

    What approach would work best for a hitter like me. I can often make contact but it’s usually line drives down the oppo line. When I hit the ball in the air it’s a flair to the opposite field, and when I pull the ball it is a low line drive. I know I have the mechanics but I can’t find an approach that allows me to pull the ball with power, but also stay consistent.

      Hey Evan, thanks for reaching out. Without seeing your swing, I believe the hitting approach is what I would recommend to you. If you can learn to focus on the zones that give you the best results, you'll start hitting the ball harder and farther.

      I will make a video about this soon. But, what I did when I was a pro baseball player, facing guys who threw 100mph, I would hit off a pitching machine and walk closer to it. I just watched it at times, other times I would swing. But as I got closer it sped the reaction time up. I went as far as I could go to the machine. Then I walked back slowly, and the ball slowed down. When the game started, 100mph felt slow. This is what most major league players do, and I believe it will help you too.

    All this is of course, good advice. What is missing is the emphasis on bat speed ... specifically WRISTS!!! ... Tim Tebow was super strong, had all these muscle groups strong as hell, and was a world class athlete... BUT, HIS HANDS WERE SLOW!!! To this day, Tebow has not been able to handle heat on the inside black! Fingers, wrists, and forearms, need SPECIFIC EXERCISES done diligently and emphasized FAR, FAR, MORE! in the whole exersize regime. Tebow spent too much time in the weight room. He is 100 times stronger than me, yet I handled inside heat and he couldn't catch up to it.

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  9 днів тому

      @sas6561 Great insight! You're absolutely right that wrist and forearm strength are critical for handling inside heat, and slow hands can definitely limit a hitter's ability to catch up to those pitches. In this video, my focus was on increasing exit velocity, which often ties directly to bat speed. When hitters improve their lower-half mechanics and sequencing, it helps generate more bat speed and, as a result, higher exit velocity.
      Strengthening the wrists, forearms, and fingers is a piece of the puzzle, but combining that with efficient swing mechanics is what truly unlocks consistent power. Appreciate you sharing your perspective!

      @@JermaineCurtis55 I have a 12 year old son, just trying to give him the right info on hitting. Some people believe HLP is a good hitting method, but then some say its a really bad method, however, I have not been able to find a good thorough explanation of why its bad. I hear things like you'll strikeout and pop-out a lot. There are 3-4 main elements to the HLP swing philosophy, coiling (everybody thinks this is good), tilting/pivoting on back hip (some think this is good), really keeping weight back (most think this is good), the hand snap (very controversial but essential for HLP), it takes a little time to understand HLP but once understood, it's a pretty simple process, the simplicity is what interest me. I have been trying to figure out the baseball swing for the last 2-3 years. I do think there is a right way to swing but different ways to get to that place, I think everyone just needs to find the instruction and drills that makes sense to them and leads to that good swing

    • @JermaineCurtis55
      @JermaineCurtis55  4 місяці тому

      Yeah, I hear you. I think a lot of people are out there searching for the 'right' information. I agree that there are a lot of phony hitting gurus online who have never actually hit themselves. However, what people need to find is the 'right information for them.' Aaron Judge has been coached by hundreds of coaches throughout his life, and he found what worked for him. Does this mean it will work for your son? I don't know. It might, but it might not. You never know unless you try it out. So go and experiment. Just remember to stay in communication with your son. A lot of people always look outward for the answer, but the answer is usually inward.

I'm really not trying to be a grammar snob here - I feel like there are some real gems in what you're trying to say, but I can't really tell when a thought stops and the next one starts. Did you mean to place a period after "elbow" in the first sentence? And kind of feels like there is something missing in the second sentence between "why" and "is."? Any clarification?
