I keep telling it is maybe his best solo and that's a real pity that Jimmy Page cut parts of it on the new remaster... but I then read that it was the same on the video, which I got to discover 10 years later than the live album, but I had not noticed when watching it... I didn't listen /view it so often, compared to the double LP but still, I watched it a few times and i felt ashamed not to have noticed the difference before, while I noticed it immediately when i listened to my newly bought remastered double CD....
I have seen them, Eric, Jimmy, and Jeff, and they do not compare because they are so different. In his own way or genre, Jimmy was the best, an amazing talent. This solo kicks ass!!!!

The solo is mind blowing but I think what makes Page historically great is the way he plays the whole song - his sense of dynamics, his fills and the way his riffs, chords and solos flow dynamically is in my opinion paints the most complete picture in all of rock history. As much as I love the solo I’m blown away at the climactic riff at the end the way he plays a really fast flurry of notes with the wah and just flows into the main riff. He and the band had a genius for creating the most dramatic effect. That’s just so Jimmy Page!
Dan....I myself a 30 yr road player. I think u nail the page thing.... on the head. The pain and the volumes chosen to convey and the attack. Spot on pages very best I think maybe. However the first 40 seconds since I've been loving u may be the greatest single into solo ever played. I just don't know. We change our minds daily depending such small variables. Lol
His lines are infinite, and he plays so freely. He doesn't aim for _perfection_ , he aims for _expression_ ... A much more realistic expression of the human condition imo. No of this fake ass pre-rehearsed rudiments and scales. Just a clear window into his imagination and soul.
For me the best part of the song occurs between 3:30 and 6:00 where the song slows down almost completely and then slowly picks up steam again right before the guitar solo. There's an under-stated brillance here; sort of jazzy, yet funky. I could listen to this a million times and it never gets old.

Very true. There is something like the first movement of a symphony, sonata form. The theme plays for No Quarter. it crescendo's and dies down. And then there is a long period of development and finally it comes back to the start, another crescendo, the climax and then dies away. Very much like the first movement of a Beethoven Symphony.

as far as im concerned , this is the point where everything came together ...and this song exemplifies how they were truly im command of their art the dynamics , the emotional investment , the musical telepathy engaged ...almost every placement, nuance and articulation of the piece is performed as if it was charted , though we all know it was just that " tight but loose" chemistry that was inherent to them from the very first rehearsal . its pretty obvious to me , that they were at the top of their game here ...and no one was going to even come close . like watching brando ... , theres a reason deniro , pacino , etc all said he was the best ...and thats because he was literally building the templates of the new modern design of portrayal ....for all to build upon
I was at this concert in 1973 and it was my first rock concert but it sure wasn't my last. I saw Zeppelin 3 times and many other bands in my 64 years 😎

You lucky bastard. 🙂 I was born too late. Tried to see them for the '77 Presence tour when I was 14 or 15, but tickets sold out too fast on the same day as they went on sale and got shafted. Was nice to see Plant/Page, but no obviously no Bonham and JPJ.
It isn't cut, I've heard the bootleg of this solo, the remaster has the original end part of the solo on it as it was heard by the audience. 08:52 onwards is a different performance of the ending tacked on to the end of the solo.
It's not just Page. Listen to how tight JPJ and Bonham are on the breakdown. Then Bonham switches to play with and around Page. They were lightening in a bottle and will never be repeated.
That's the solo I remember from when I bought TSRTS when I was 13; then saw the movie, then saw them live riverfront coliseum Cincy April 77. My heart and soul, I love these guys. Bonzo forever!

Page is phenomenal! This solo alone makes him one of the greatest ever, dont care how sloppy he was at times (heroin) Plant sings great also here, love his approach and style
Not just Jimmy. The entire band Bonzos drumming adds a sense of urgency. John Paul’s keyboard work is masterful. Jimmy’s arrangements and time signature tricks in the composition truly showcase the depth and talent of the band
This was Zeppelin at their best in 73 in NY! The song remains the same is the best live album ever, every song and note is spot on and on this 3 night stand at Madison Square Garden they caught the best rock band ever playing at their best!!! Everyone should own the DVD!
As soon as Jimmy starts noodling 12 bars before the lead solo begins is hair-raising ( literally) in anticipation of what's about to come! If you haven't listened to this with a set of really good studio style headphones turned all the way up then you are missing out on the hypnotic way all of them came together for those brief few moments in time where everything and everyone were as 1 and Jimmy let loose with probably the best solo he's ever done live that was recorded ! I've heard another recordings of this song òn bootlegs and none of them were as tight and grabbed me like this did ! The opening notes of the lead just reached out and grab you and its just on an crackin' from there. At the 12:45 mark to me anyway is when Jimmy wasnt thinking he was just playing and he held nothing back from there til the end of the solo !! Fucking amazing ! I'm glad I was around to witness this rare look at JP offering his best stuff to us all
@Release The Kraken This is the best guitar + drummer solo. Telepathic understanding of each other. CM is just a rendition with a back up band. THIS is real, old school musicians who could just plug in and play and PERFORM......!
There’s something about this version of “No Quater” that’s so mystical and otherworldly. Feels like I’m walking down a dark and cold road on a cold, winter, night in mid evil Scotland or England. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham were wizards at their craft. They just transport you. Every single time. Greatest band of all time, and it’s not even a competition. What Zeppelin did between 69-80 might never be replicated ever again.
The Passion of the Page on full display. What he gets out of his guitar in this song is nothing less than a symphony. Just incredible. The man is all feel and his subtle dipthongs and bends that begin and end phrases come from the deepest part of his subconscious. Fn A man. Incredible. In 1988 I was able to see him live at the Ritz in Manhattan. I was leaning on the stage 4 feet from JP. He let loose on In My Time of Dying and it was absolutely sublime. Everyone in the room, including Jimmy was out of body, intermingling with the universe.
Whoever said this is the greatest band to ever stand on the stage was not lying. Nothing has ever even come close to what Led Zeppelin did. Led Zeppelin at its worst was head and shoulders above everything else around them. Jimmy played a very brilliant part in this song, but the composition belongs to John Paul Jones. The song was recorded in D minor and showcases John Paul Jones’s classical roots…nothing can or ever will come close to this band again….. John Paul Jones was the icing on top of the Led Zeppelin cake. His multi instrumental abilities put that band above everything around them. What would going to California be without the mandolin? What would no quarter be without the incredible keyboard playing? What wood in through the outdoor be with without Jones on the synthesizer? What would the rain song be without Jones on the mellotron? To this day, everything else runs second place to Led Zeppelin.
I'm impressed, this is definitely one of pages masterpieces ,,,the reason I play guitar is partly because if this solo...john paul is the low key wizard , and plant and Bonham, well , this is truly a band... don't make them like they used to...cheers to all of you.
I’m not a guitarist, I tried and it’s too damn hard for me. More of a drummer, but I will say, the two people who got me into the instruments in the first place were Bonham and Page. Truly wizards of their craft. Respect to John Paul Jones and Robert Plant too. Greatest rock and roll band of all time
This has been my favorite since the very first time I heard it. First Jonsey, then Bonzo and finally JP. Nobody trying to outdo the others. Just pure magical musical genius playing off each other. God I miss those times

3:25 - 10:11 is genuinely one of the best things to ever occur in rock and roll. Out of all the magnificent, ethereal Zeppelin moments, I come back to this stretch the most.
Yeah man, can you imagine? Back when concerts were so loud, the bass rattled your ribs and the kick drum made your heart skip beats, and that was just the rhythm section!. There was no talking to the person right next to you during a song unless you screamed as loud as you could with your mouth practically on their ear....lol
I wish Jimmy would have left all the first generation versions on the reissue of TSRTS, and then just added the other songs. I'm so glad I still have my copy of this first generation album/CD.
I was 12 years old when this came out in 1976 about to start 7th grade and was a huge Zeppelin fan, I was 5 when I got my first 45rpm of Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker on the other side, my brother was 11 years older than myself and took me to see Zeppelin on July 23rd 1977. I listened to Song Remains the Same a lot, especially when I went to my best friends house to spend the weekend, good times, the best of times.
I remember listening to this song with my headphones on sitting in my bed nice and quiet not moving an inch and when the song was over my mother was staring at me with a huge grin😁 and asked " You like this song don't you??"and I just smiled 😁😁😁
I remember burning a joint many times and treat myself to No Quarter. I still do it today but sadly tonight without a joint. TSRTS beats other great live albums flat.
Thank God this music was recorded it's just perfect!Everything is perfect.Roberts voice,JP's organ,Bonzos druming and of course Jimmy's amazing solo!Love how he inches his way in and takes over❤❤❤❤
This is the correct original version of this song which was released on the original The Remains the Same album. Bonzo's tymp isn't washed and this is his original drum sound (Jimmy trashed the sound of both of these on the 2007 remastered album w Bob Ludwig) and Jimmy makes his way into the solo - slowly getting to it. This is incredible.
The fucking atmospheres Jimmy creates.... He doesn't play music, he shifts space and time

as far as im concerned , this is the point where everything came together ...and this song exemplifies how they were truly im command of their art
the dynamics , the emotional investment , the musical telepathy engaged ...almost every placement, nuance and articulation of the piece is performed as if it was charted , though we all know it was just that " tight but loose" chemistry that was inherent to them from the very first rehearsal . its pretty obvious to me , that they were at the top of their game here ...and no one was going to even come close . like watching brando ... , theres a reason deniro , pacino , etc all said he was the best ...and thats because he was literally building the templates of the new modern design of portrayal ....for all to build upon
I'm so thankful to my dad for making me listen to Led Zeppelin as a child, I'm 25 now and they are still untouchable
I was at this concert in 1973 and it was my first rock concert but it sure wasn't my last. I saw Zeppelin 3 times and many other bands in my 64 years 😎
Zep simply the very best
Love this!!! Can u tell the story of the night you had? Would enviously love a long winded personal account of your experience, at least several romantic paragraphs so we can live vicariously would be such a privilege, please and thank you and sincerely jealous!
Lucky p
Lucky you
The full No Quarter was a real highlight of the original album. Cutting it down for the remaster was a crying shame, undermined the whole project.
Is this cut down too?
@@Silkier Not that I know of. It's in line with the original 1976 release.
It isn't cut, I've heard the bootleg of this solo, the remaster has the original end part of the solo on it as it was heard by the audience. 08:52 onwards is a different performance of the ending tacked on to the end of the solo.
@@StevieV The remastered version cuts right from 5:19 to 6:53 skipping that first part of the solo. I think that’s what they meant by cut out.
Amazing how they never rush this piece. They just leave a lot of room in it. And the various sound textures are amazing.
My children have strict instructions to play Led Zeppelin when I leave this realm of space and time. No crying …. Just listen.
It's not just Page. Listen to how tight JPJ and Bonham are on the breakdown. Then Bonham switches to play with and around Page. They were lightening in a bottle and will never be repeated.
Definitely Bonham and Jonesy...
That's the solo I remember from when I bought TSRTS when I was 13; then saw the movie, then saw them live riverfront coliseum Cincy April 77. My heart and soul, I love these guys. Bonzo forever!
Wow!! A Cincy comment! Riverfront section 204 was where it was at. Rock on, friend!
@@lauraelliott4862 we did not get to OUR seats til they had just finished up TSRTS . We held each other the whole show it was so loud. We were so close I saw who I know now were grant cole lefevre.
If I were a few generations older I would've been there! Would've loved to have seen them live in my hometown.
me too, god i nearly wore out the vinyl playing this.
19th or 20th you went to?
This is a freaking masterpiece
Page is phenomenal! This solo alone makes him one of the greatest ever, dont care how sloppy he was at times (heroin) Plant sings great also here, love his approach and style
This is a classic it will never be forgotten
There are classic rock songs , the best ones, all time chart toppers and best of the bests and THEN there is this, No Quarter.
Not just Jimmy. The entire band Bonzos drumming adds a sense of urgency. John Paul’s keyboard work is masterful. Jimmy’s arrangements and time signature tricks in the composition truly showcase the depth and talent of the band
The best solo of all time by the GOAT.
This is Page absolutely on fire! Flawless solo!
They knew eachother so well, and the music reflects that. I came here after listening to Ten years gone for the Umilinionth Time.
Welcome!!❤
In the history of music there's never been a better song composed yet!
Bach rules: Jimmy’s 2nd!!!…
The most hypnotizing song of all time 😮
This was Zeppelin at their best in 73 in NY! The song remains the same is the best live album ever, every song and note is spot on and on this 3 night stand at Madison Square Garden they caught the best rock band ever playing at their best!!! Everyone should own the DVD!
I agree 👍
Hear hear, they were immaculate here.
DV what now
on fire in 73, never bettered.
They’re so good some people think they were possessed by demons themselves. What talent. Maybe they were, if you believe in that sort of thing.
And this, people, is what sublime musical virtuosity sounds like.
The album version is a classic. This live version takes it to another level. . . WOW.

I prefer most of HOTH live over the studio versions.. ☑
June 2 1973 Kezar Stadium San Francisco. I was 18. I'm now 68 and it is the greatest Rock performance I've ever seen and in SF, I saw em all.
This is literally the all time peak of any performance ever. It doesn’t get better than this, by any band or any performer
It's headphone time again! Ahhh! The memories held within. 👍✌️
better headphones .. my stereo would get me evicted :P
One of the best 13 minutes on earth!!
I'm glad I was around to witness this rare look at JP offering his best stuff to us all
Now thas a bad ass solo,,,my favorite from Page,,just brilliant.
7:50 Absolute perfection, I believe they were at the height of their career here, and this level of talent will never be replicated.
his guitar is crying....
8:43 that particular note gives you chills and make you smile no matter what❤❤❤❤
The best guitar solo I have ever heard.
@Release The Kraken A close second !
@Release The Kraken No, I saw The Wall 2-26-80.
@Release The Kraken This is the best guitar + drummer solo. Telepathic understanding of each other. CM is just a rendition with a back up band. THIS is real, old school musicians who could just plug in and play and PERFORM......!
@Release The Kraken You do have a point. It's close to this!
@@LoneLee2022 No it's not as good as this, but it is close!
John Bonham’s feel and groove is sensational
Complemented by JPJ’s base in the background, Jimmy absolutely going into a trans, this might be the greatest piece of rock and roll ever composed.
Might be my favorite band and the song is in my top 100 of All-time
The Passion of the Page on full display.
Pothead!!!
@@cliffullrich8564 Drunk!

They are the best ever hands-down, best rock band
I listened to this song everyday in college. It brought me into meditative state and somehow gave me the determination to never give up.
I'm impressed, this is definitely one of pages masterpieces ,,,the reason I play guitar is partly because if this solo...john paul is the low key wizard , and plant and Bonham, well , this is truly a band... don't make them like they used to...cheers to all of you.
Agreed. Jimmy is the whole reason I picked up a guitar in '76.
@@ronhanisco8697 Me too lol, he's so damn good he literally just makes up most of this as he goes live. He's got insane confidence.
Hundred Percent!!!
I’m not a guitarist, I tried and it’s too damn hard for me. More of a drummer, but I will say, the two people who got me into the instruments in the first place were Bonham and Page. Truly wizards of their craft. Respect to John Paul Jones and Robert Plant too. Greatest rock and roll band of all time
Imagine being there in 73 listen to this masterpiece. Did they realize how good this was as they were playing it??
Did WE realize?
Of course
They sound like the greatest jazz group. Page soars and the keyboard Oh my.
Perfection.
This has been my favorite since the very first time I heard it. First Jonsey, then Bonzo and finally JP. Nobody trying to outdo the others. Just pure magical musical genius playing off each other. God I miss those times
My favorite live Zeppelin song on tape, LP, CD, etc. This is just perfection.
Mine too !
NO SUCH THING AS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION,...BUT THESE BOYS SURE AS SHIT COME CLOSER THAN I'VE EVER HEARD.
This solo is mind blowing jimmy is on fire
That guitar wail at 7:35 forever etched in my mind!
It may be the best guitar sound in the world.
3:25 - 10:11 is genuinely one of the best things to ever occur in rock and roll. Out of all the magnificent, ethereal Zeppelin moments, I come back to this stretch the most.
The Greatest of ALL TIME! And never another one!
This song is in my opinion maybe the best rock song ever. The groove and feel of the solo is just unmatchable. Page is a living legend 🤘
Beautiful guitar solo by the master 🔥🔥🔥
for a rock solo, this sounds so jazzy, incredible dynamics.
Best solo of all time. Jones and bonham compliment page perfectly. This is the peak.
THE GREATEST ROCK BAND IN THE HISTORY.
Did I already comment " no order, know order?"
Oh my oh my... this is THE solo.
This is other worldly. Just Amazing.
This must have been mind blowing to see in person. Because this gives me chills just listening.
My sister was at this show and to this day, she said she’s never been turned on more than listening to Jimmy Page. It gave her chills
73 , fuk ,I was 10 , but I saw them in 77
Yeah man, can you imagine? Back when concerts were so loud, the bass rattled your ribs and the kick drum made your heart skip beats, and that was just the rhythm section!. There was no talking to the person right next to you during a song unless you screamed as loud as you could with your mouth practically on their ear....lol
This is my drug!! Best solo ever!!!
My favorite zep song ever Jimmy's unbelievable
In my book, among the best solos in the history of rock n' roll.
No special effects, no lasers, firebombs or video screens and most importantly, no tracks here. A masterpiece
Thank God this music was recorded it's just perfect!Everything is perfect.Roberts voice,JP's organ,Bonzos druming and of course Jimmy's amazing solo!Love how he inches his way in and takes over❤❤❤❤
Musical meditation. Merge. My church. My nirvana. Thank you.
Hey i love your passion for the band. I am a Led Head myself. Like what you did here. \m/ 93
Agreed. The 2007 edition is shockingly bad!
Wow, I was there!!!!!!!!!!!
So lucky ❤❤❤
AND, ZEPPELIN WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THIS GUY...MR. JONES!
