2:03 There's a reason why the Republic of Indonesia uses a 737. Indonesia is pretty much known as the largest archipelago country in the world. Therefore, the president do need a dedicated aircraft to get around the country. The thing is, most airports in Indonesia can only handle narrow body jets (such as the 737 and A320). Most domestic flights in Indonesia, especially to non-metropolitan areas is usually served by propeller-powered aircraft (with the ATR72 being one of the most popular one). Thus the presidential aircraft is kinda limited to a narrow body such as a 737. Indonesia does have airports that can handle wide body aircrafts, but almost all of them are located in West (such as Jakarta and Surabaya in Java, Medan in Sumatra, Batam in the Riau Islands) and Central Indonesia (such as Balikpapan in Indonesian Borneo, Makassar and Manado in Sulawesi, Denpasar in Bali). Airports in East Indonesia can only handle narrow bodies. The 737-800 callsigned "Indonesia One" owned by the State Secretariat and operated by the Indonesian Air Force was put in service since around 2014. Before then, the president usually gets around on the national carrier Garuda Indonesia Airways. Besides the 737, there's also a 777-300ER leased by Garuda Indonesia Airways. This one is very rarely seen in Indonesia. The 777 is only used on long-haul travel such as to the US. The 777 was leased by Garuda Indonesia due to the president was attending the ASEAN-US Summit held in Las Vegas. The 737 is considered inefficient for this trip due to it has to stop 3x to refuel. The plane actually uses an old livery of Garuda Indonesia used in 1969. The livery includes a red lining from the nose to the tail with the word "garuda" on the tail and "indonesian airways" on the body. But for the presidential aircraft, the "indonesian airways" was changed to "REPUBLIK INDONESIA" while maintaining the "garuda" on the tail to signify that the aircraft is owned by Garuda Indonesia.
The German Government Planes are all part of the German Federal Defense Ministry Special Squadron. This Squadron - which is btw still sitting on the Airport of Cologne/Bonn and not in Berlin - operates a whole bunch of aircrafts. The most known are three A 340-300, named "Theodor Heuss" after the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany, "Konrad Adenauer" after the first Chancellor and Kurt Schumacher after the first Opposition Leader. "Theodor Heuss" is usually used by the German President (yes, we´ve a President), "Konrad Adenauer" by the German Chancellor and "Kurt Schumacher" as a replacement aircraft. The first new A 350-900 is now the new "Kurt Schumacher". This new aircrafts were ordered directly from Airbus after the public embarressment that Chancellor Merkel had to use an Iberia flight to reach the G20-summit in Buenos Aires because none of the three aging A 340 were able to fly at the time, while the German Foreign Minister was sitting somewhere in Africa unable to return to Germany. They´re all former Lufthansa aircrafts and very aged. The Special Squadron also operates an A 310-300 equipped with an economy class configuration (two other A 310 were just fleeted out and all of them are remainings of the GDR-Interflug, built in 1989 and joint the Squadron shortly after German Reunification), a couple of a little bit newer A 319-100 ("only" in their 20ies and also former Lufthansa aircrafts), now in a special configuration which allows it to change them quick between a Business and a Hospital configuration - and also a couple of smaller Gulfstream Business Jets. And btw.: Most of the aircrafts of the Special Squadron are painted in the usual grey Air Force colors. Only the A 340, some few of the Gulfstreams and now the A 350 have a white livery with a stripe of the German national colours Black-Red-Gold and the words "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (Federal Republic of Germany). It was only President Johannes Rau back in 1999 who ordered this new livery to them to show that a member of the German Government arrives with them and not a combat mission.

That proposed new AF1 color scheme makes it look more like a postal cargo freighter with windows, than the dedicated aircraft for transporting the most powerful leader in the world. At best it rivals the color scheme of the old defunct US Airways fleet. The current exterior of Air Force One has legacy, and looks far superior. Don't touch it!
The iconic livery of AF1 needs to remain the same! It is known all over the world as a statement of the United States. President trump can go back to flying on his TBird. Also, if the paint were to change, would we also be repainting all the other aircraft of the 89th??

They should keep the current scheme, Its immediately known what aircraft it is. And it is good they are going to use a 747 again, There will always be something a bit special about that bird. Side note, Didnt the PMs of France and the UK also used to use the Concorde when it was in service?
I wonder what the US Presidential Aircraft will be when the VC-25B is on its last leg, as the 747 for passenger use is no longer being produced. New iteration of the 777?
Well, I guess the new 747s are expected to last just as long as the previous ones, meaning about 40 years. By then I'm fairly certain there are entirely new planes to choose from while the 777X would be on its way out of Commercial Service.
For curiosity's sake I took a screenshot of Trump's design and put it in a drawing app. I kept the design the same but added the iconic sweep across the fuselage and the tail, and I believed it was a nice blend of old and new.
Air Force One needs to keep it's current and iconic livery, maybe with just a few tweaks. Israel has a private Boeing B 767-300er called the "Wing of Zion" for it's Head of State.
Israel will have a dedicated aircraft, a refurbished 767-300 previously owned by Qantas and 18 years old. Its registration is 4X-ISR. There has been quite a bit of controversy over the cost of this refurbishment. It should be in operation sometime soon in 2021, having done a series of proving flights already.
I really love the 1962 livery for AF1 and would hope it is not changed. I think the size of the government transport should probably have more to do with the size of staff, guests and media that accompany the leader. Yes, the leader needs to work and all that, but you really don't need a 747 for the president's office and stateroom. Smaller countries will not require a much space and consequently use a smaller aircraft. Remember also that the President flies in his own helicopter and rides in his own car no matter where he goes. All of this has to be moved to the size before AF1 arrives. I think it takes two C5's do it. November 22 1963 changed everything. So, in the case at least of the US moving the President is profoundly expensive. It might be somewhat less when they go to their personal home/retreat as that might already be set up at the other end.
It cant be changed (no matter what any says/thinks) unless its first approved by a vote in the house. Thankfully I think that the chances of that ever happening are slim to none - especially because the lineage of the current design and who it was designed for. Also there is a mandate that says the Presidential airplane needs to be a 4 engine aircraft for "safety" reasons. While I agree it does not need to be a 747 now, this was done in the past due to reliability fears.
@@philski24 I'm relieved that changing the color scheme can't be done on a whim. When it comes to design I think Jackie bests DT even on a bad day! AF1 is such an elegant a beautiful airplane. I think having the 747 is cool. A very iconic US airplane!! 2 or 4 engines matters little for cost in this case. It ain't a for profit airline! I went to the NMUASF and saw (and walked through!) N26000. While used by JFK => Reagan most connect with JFK because of the livery and Dallas. I'll tell you, it is just beautiful to see it in the hanger, it just gleams!
@@henrivanbemmel I go there every year and no matter how many times I walk through, how many pictures I take of it- I am still in awe of the piece, simply because of the names of the people who have walked the same path inside.
Well I would chose A330 Neo. As it is not as expensive as 777X or A350 or 787 but is as good as those airplanes. Also finding pilots, technicians and spare parts for A330NEO is not very expensive or difficult.
Some added info as to why some countries have fairly large planes, or fleets. I will use Germany as an example because I am German. The German government uses a number of different planes, on top of the A340 / 350 there are a number of Global 5000, Airbus A318 and A321. All are run by the German Air Force and maintained by Lufthansa. Even the smaller planes have large range and are often used for long travels by members of the government. The choice of plane depends on the size of the delegation, the duration of the stay and the importance of the passengers. This is not an exclusive service only for the head of state. The reason why government officials use VIP travel instead of commercial is mostly to be time efficient and flexible in their schedule. A lot of events in the political world happen in odd places, so this usually pays off. The reason to have a widebody jet as top of the fleet is mainly to allow to use the time aboard for work. The ability to bring a large delegation (it is very common for German journalists to be invited along, for instance) and representation are also a reason.
a fleet of B747-8I BBJ is the ultimate heads of state aircraft by far be it as a wide body private jet or airliner, it's simply marvellous . . . not even the A380-800 Neo comes close to that consistent unshakable aura of the B747-8I & B747-400 ER . . .
Bigger is not always better when it comes to presidential jets. I reckon the reason why France opted for a mere A330 is because France's territory is the most widespread over the globe, but the airports are not always able to welcome huge quad-jets. I'm thinking for instance about Mayotte, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, some islands of French Polynesia... Macron often needs to go far, the A330 represents an amazing option for his needs.
Hopefully 45's choice in scheme and colors for the new VC-25s will be overturned and the classic look retained because the new look could honestly get lost in and amongst other aircraft whereas the Jackie special stands out on the ground and blends in the air.
The USA demands a four engine aircraft for redundancy and safety. This would be the smallest turbofan option out there. It really is an interesting design where you learn the history behind it and the reasons engineers made the choices they did. There’s something about this high wing quad jet I really like!

It's all been done quite quietly with leases and middlemen, so details are scarce, but its said these A321's seat about 50, so will be considerably more lavish.
@@BrySkye Yes, I am aware of the requirement for the multiple roles the Voyaged needs to take on, knowing several people who work for Air Tanker. I am also aware of the A321 project, again, knowing people who work for Titan, being that I also work in the same industry. But, as you say, all done quite quietly, as per my reply above, because in the UK it is too much of a touchy subject, VIP transport etc. for government and other dignitaries. Germany, France etc. not so much.

New Zealand has a VIP transport. its a 757 operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force
Some truly amazing planes! Thanks for the video! Greetings from Denmark😁
My favourite is the German Chancellor new A350.
The Indian Air force one's were scheduled to be delivered to Air India, But IAF bought it from them and converted it to a VIP Transport. Has features that matches the OG Air force one though.
You’re wrong about China and Israel. It has a fleet of 10 737s operated by the Air Force, a 747-8 tail number B-2479 and an A330 tail number B-6130 used exclusively as VIP government transports.
As of 2019, Israel has a dedicated 767-300 in executive service. The aircraft is ex-Qantas and the tail number is 4X-ISR.
I think Turkish VIP Boeing 2018 model 747-8 for $500 million dollars before it was fitted with security futures was fantastic.

New US's Air Force 1 reminds me the last TWA livery..
Only avgeeks will know.
Honestly I can see it
That and a little bit of US Airways' last livery too.
Looks like the bankrupt Trump Shuttle too

You forgot the 737 BBJ from my country, the Netherlands! Also flown by our King himself 👍👑😁
Oh yeah that’s right. Here in Australia, I think Alliance Airlines bought the old Fokker VIP jet that flew Dutch ministers and Royalty.
Cleared for takeoff for Greece 👑
Or they just fly on KLM😂😂😂
Good job & amazyng 👍
Greetings from Kefamenanu City-Timor Island-Indonesia.
The most traditional livery is the Japanese' air force 'Japanese Calligraphy'-style. My favorite 'Air Force One'.
I was a flight attendant with the former German Air Force One Boeing 707 from 1982 - 1988.
Compared to todays government aircrafts the 707 was very simple, even though equipped with a VIP-compartment and the then latest radio devices.
I will never forget my various flights across the world not only with the German heads of state, but also with some foreign dignitaries as guests of the German government.
How did you get to fly with these people
The Swiss government uses a Dassault Falcon 900EX. Significantly smaller than all of these, but also longhaul capable.
Great video!
My favorite is the Canadian government transport. It has a nice livery and is a fleet of classic Airbus 310.
i like when gov't planes use discreet painting. my country's (brazil) gov't plane is like that. some stripes and a small flag and you, "it's the gov't's plane!" when it comes to more complex painting job, the american is the best one by far. classic combination of colors, some parts in chrome. either the 757 or the 747, very iconic and very good looking. it's modern and old and delicate. very charming.
I love this kind of videos
My choice would be the a350. Best, quietest and most comfortable aircraft in the sky.
And the most modern. I hope I will see it soon.
ive flown on a a350 and a 777 and the 777 is actually so much more nicer even though it was older
I'm surprised many nations don't use it as a VIP aircraft even though it is the most fuel efficient and a beautiful aircraft
@@tahseensyed8398 yeah because it is so esxpensive think about how long Germany used the 340

Can you make another part of this containing Some other planes too
Royal New Zealand Air Force does have VIP jets ,this these being two Boeing 757-200.
That Brunei aircraft is LUXURY at its best!!
I would want to travel aboard Air Force One in current colors.
Just to clarify, on ZZ336 RAF Voyager the 1million dollars was not for the paint job it was for maintenance, upgraded communication equipment and a paint job
and worth every penny
That must be awesome to command. Imagine sitting on your thrown with your headset on: "sir, we're about to land at Paris, would you like to get your meal yourself or do we order?". Would be amazing.
The food on air force one I'm told is the in or out of the sky. The president does not get served peanuts or pretzels. Unless that's what he wanted, the current aircraft has a full galley? Our 44th president enjoyed delicious cheeseburgers while on board prepared by a chef.
Just watched a national geography programe on the new air force one plane 747-8 they didn't show to much but is was interesting.
6:24 Where did you get those photos from and what do they have to do with an IL-96??? At a glance I can see the two red flags. The top right photo is a straight up bedroom in a building. The bottom left is from a 747, as evidenced by the windows on the left and right narrowing to a point that would be the nose, leaving no space for the flight deck. It makes me seriously question the authenticity of the other 6 photos.
Actually 777-300ER never served with the Air India these 2 jets have been on order from Boeing with other jets slated for Air India but they were designated for VVIP use and sent to Texas from the Boeing plant for additional fitments. Got that info wrong about these 2 jets been used for commercial aviation.
3:36, thankfully, they are keeping the design now
I thought the British Queen also had a BAe 146, small and with 4 engines for redundency because 1 and 3 do hydraulics and 2 and 4 do electronics.
She does but it's for shorter trips within the uk and western Europe
@@daddymegooddaddy8296 the BAe 146 is just a plain cool ass plane!

Air force One !!!! PERIOD
In Denmark we have a CL604 for the royal family and our PM
Excellent idea.
New Zealand does have a dedicated jet for VIP travel including the PM.
Thanks Neil. Our research had led us to believe that New Zealand had an Air Force 757s available but they werent dedicated for government travel, and that Air New Zealand charters were more commonly used
@@LongHaulbySimpleFlying Your correct the 757's are also used for troop transport but the government rarely ever charter air new zealand aircraft, most of the time the PM just takes ordinary commercial flights
Don't touch it!
not naming a particular country but i would prefer any boing 777 plane of any vip carrier over other models.
SAM: Special Air Mission
My SAM: Surface to Air Missle
The iconic livery of AF1 needs to remain the same! It is known all over the world as a statement of the United States. President trump can go back to flying on his TBird. Also, if the paint were to change, would we also be repainting all the other aircraft of the 89th??
It's almost an American Icon. How long has it been, 60 years?
Hah! Like Trump ACTUALLY owns any aircraft. That 757 with his name on it is leased. I'm pretty sure hell be flying coach pretty soon.

How do I find the new A350 of the German Air Force on Flightradar24?
It´s the "10+03" - that´s the official military code.
The new proposed paintjob for AF-1 honestly looks like an outdated American Airlines livery than the presidential aircraft. They should keep the current scheme, Its immediately known what aircraft it is. And it is good they are going to use a 747 again, There will always be something a bit special about that bird.
Side note, Didnt the PMs of France and the UK also used to use the Concorde when it was in service?
Very nice.
on which one would I like to fly on ? simple, on the best one so on a new Airbus
I wonder what the US Presidential Aircraft will be when the VC-25B is on its last leg, as the 747 for passenger use is no longer being produced. New iteration of the 777?
Who knows. Won't need a new plane for a long time.
Well, I guess the new 747s are expected to last just as long as the previous ones, meaning about 40 years. By then I'm fairly certain there are entirely new planes to choose from while the 777X would be on its way out of Commercial Service.
Air force one. I love the 747
That new AFO livery looks very old, I like the current one better
I like the new one
I agree with xs
For curiosity's sake I took a screenshot of Trump's design and put it in a drawing app. I kept the design the same but added the iconic sweep across the fuselage and the tail, and I believed it was a nice blend of old and new.

Air Force One. Quick, easy & obvious answer.
Air Force One needs to keep it's current and iconic livery, maybe with just a few tweaks. Israel has a private Boeing B 767-300er called the "Wing of Zion" for it's Head of State.
You forgot to mentioned Sultan of Brunei's BBJ 762. He now have 3 Boeing's aircraft in his fleets. They are BBJ 748 & BBJ 788.
I like the red white and blue color scheme
What presidential and royal members fly in is the talk of the Avgeeks of the nation😂😂😂😹😹
no its not
Boeing 777-300 of our great PM Narendra Modi is a mini AIR FORCE ONE. Built and refitted refurbished in USA with the help of Pentagon.. 🇮🇳
I would want to fly on a 350 private jet.
The German A350 any day for me! My country has an old Fokker 70 as the presidential jet!
Air Force one is a bad ass. I would love to fly on it just once.
The UK also uses some BAe146
Well I would chose A330 Neo. As it is not as expensive as 777X or A350 or 787 but is as good as those airplanes. Also finding pilots, technicians and spare parts for A330NEO is not very expensive or difficult.
Great choice!
Did they retire the Gulfstream GVs?
@@Exodon2020 The fleet is listed here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Transport_Wing_(German_Air_Force)#Current_Fleet
I’d choose an A350 any day
787 looks best.
a fleet of B747-8I BBJ is the ultimate heads of state aircraft by far be it as a wide body private jet or airliner, it's simply marvellous . . . not even the A380-800 Neo comes close to that consistent unshakable aura of the B747-8I & B747-400 ER . . .
The livery colors of Air Force One must NOT be changed!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
777-300 AirIndia One ☝️ with prime minister.
Hopefully 45's choice in scheme and colors for the new VC-25s will be overturned and the classic look retained because the new look could honestly get lost in and amongst other aircraft whereas the Jackie special stands out on the ground and blends in the air.
hopefully you can include other middle east royal families private aircraft
You forgot to mention the wide Royal Fleet from Qatar and UAE. That's the real deal for Royals :)
To the question of which I'd prefer to fly on, the answer is yes. :)
They haven't mentioned the Royal Flight - BAE 146
The USA demands a four engine aircraft for redundancy and safety. This would be the smallest turbofan option out there. It really is an interesting design where you learn the history behind it and the reasons engineers made the choices they did. There’s something about this high wing quad jet I really like!
If I would have. I would 100% go for the A380 or A330neo
