- Used by the American President for decades, and even the inspiration for a blockbuster Hollywood action film, the call sign for the President’s personal ride has become a household name. But as time goes on and technologies evolve, so too must Air Force One. So pack your bags and get ready for takeoff in the Presidential suite, because in today’s video, we’re taking a look inside the new and improved Air Force One.

The exterior colors were designed by industrial designer Raymond Loewy as requested by Jackie Kennedy in 1961. 60 years later it still looks as new as ever.
Trump directed the color scheme be changed I'm glad Biden reversed that decision. Air Force One's look is iconic and timeless and instantly recognizable around the world.

Mach 1? They do realize what happens when you reach Mach 1.0, right? There's no way you're pushing this whale through that wall and coming out in one piece. Nah, Mach 0.9 is plenty fast enough, thank you. (I.E. there's a reason the Concord looks like a pencil, not a beer can)

@@Jay-jb2vr Well yes, one Concorde did crash into a hotel. However, that accident was caused by ANOTHER aircraft leaving a piece of debris on the runway. The Concorde rolled over said piece of debris, causing a tire explosion. This ruptured one of the fuel tanks. The resulting leakage of fuel caught fire, and, combined with the failure of engine 1 and 2 caused by ingestion of combustion gases and/or the debris from the tire, as well as loss of hydraulic fluid, ultimately caused the loss of the aircraft.
Once again, this incident was caused by another aircraft, and was not the Concorde's fault.
That said, one can not think of the Concorde as the aircraft that crashed into a hotel, since it did serve honorably as the world's fastest airliner for nearly 3 decades. It remains one of only two supersonic airliners to enter service (the other being the Tu-144, however it flew just 76 flights before being retired).
@@chesterwang3070 also there had been several instances of Boeing airplanes crashing due to technical failures, so he shouldn't be so arrogant. Just remember what happened to two Boeing 737 max three years ago.

As someone who's maintained 747's for the last 26 years there is no way the 747-8 will go supersonic (Mach 1) without serious structural damage.
0.9 Mach or transonic is the best it'll do without a wild pitch change as the center of pressure on the wing changes as shock waves form.
The wing and engine intakes are just not designed for supersonic airflow.
Agree with you. Not too much difference in altitude and speed. The current AF1 can fly at 45,000 and go max 560k. 16 hrs nonstop

I like the interior schema of the old airforce 1 and I think it looked better. The new one looks very sterile and cold but the only one looks cozy and natural.
I'm hoping/thinking that the color scheme in the video is just the artist rendering and not what they actually are going to use. As you say their ultra modern look does end up looking sterile and cold unlike the old look.

You beat me to it. The original Raymond Lowey design was always eye catching, and made the statement that the “United States has arrived”. The updated new scheme looks like a cut rate airline. Considering where it originated, it’s not surprising.

*Any AIR FORCE aircraft that carries POTUS becomes AF1, not 'any aircraft'. When he/she flies on a Marine helicopter, the callsign is Marine One. Likewise the callsign Navy One and Army One are used when aircraft from either of those branches carries the commander-in-chief. Though never used, Coast Guard One would be used as well (CG2 was used once!)

What you said any aircraft taking on the call sign AF1 is not true. If the president is in a Marine aircraft (as he often is) it's Marine 1, in a Navy aircraft it would be Navy 1, in an Army aircraft it would be Army 1, and in a civilian aircraft it would be Executive 1. AF1 is used only when the president flies in an air force aircraft.

That's not entirely true.
Not true that use to be the case but now any time the president is on any aircraft it's Call sign is AF1, even if he got aboard a Cessna 172 that would be AF1.
AFT is not the name of a plane it's a call sign, read about how AF1 call sign came about, it was in the Kennedy Administration. John F Kennedy was the one who came up with AF1..

by the way The New Aircraft is going to be Equipped with Air To Air rockets to be able to shoot down any enemy aircraft that attacks it, and it will be able to fire on targets at any direction even enemy aircraft directly behind the AF1 Jet.
And yes there is going to be an escape pod for the president, but not a single pod it will hold 3 people at once, so the president can be in the company of 2 secret service agents.
I know all this first hand, Not going to tell you how, but believe me on this.
It Also will have the ability to be controlled VIA Secure Satellite From any where on the planet but where is unknown but they it will be able to be controlled by some one not on the plane incase something happened to the pilots, yes of course it's totally secure and can't be hacked from some one trying to take control to crash it.
there is 6 sets of codes that must be entered to be able to enable it.
Each set is 20 digits, and it's changed every flight by a computer generated system that they enter before each time the plane is active.
so if it takes off in the US and then lands in Russia, then when the president gets in it to return to the US, it's changed again.
And when controlled remotely it has an automated system where it can land it self safely and a set airport, they have tested this remote system and landed demo planes while in development many times and all landings worked 100% accurately and safely..
This is the state of the art aircraft with just about everything you can think of.
Oh and By the way, this has always been the case, we all know ATC controls air traffic, they are in charge of where planes fly what altitude and speed and headed, EXCAPT, Yes AFT Airforce 1 is NOT controlled by any ATC anywhere, they have authority over all the airspace, they dictate the airspace over ATC, and it's all controlled from AF1 lets say when they fly over Kennedy airspace Kennedy Center no longer controls the airspace, AF1 Does, and they tell Kennedy Center what to do, and who to deny any other aircraft anything, they can even instruct Kennedy center to ground all aircraft at a specific time while AF1 travels though it, AF1 makes it's own flight plans and does not have to reveal it to any one they just simply go where they please and how they please and they just instruct who ever is in control of that airspace what they are doing and to keep all other aircraft far away from them and not a one can be at the same altitude even 500 miles away.
It being the fastest passenger airline to date isn't really correct, Concorde was a British-French Passenger airline that flew from 1976 - 2003 And could go Mach 2.04, but it would be correct to say it is the fastest passenger plane still in service
You’re correct on the Concord but the fastest subsonic airliners were the Convair 880 and 990 still have speed records! Though the prototype DC-8 did go supersonic in a dive during testing for a short time period! 👍

I absolutely despise the style of the interior but as long as he keeps the livery of the exterior, the famous blue and white, I'm good. The interior can always be redesigned and re-fitted. Now the med bay and galley, needed an upgraded, so that's fine.

Air Force 1 isn't the call sign for any plane carrying POTUS. If he's on an army chopper it's Army 1, a Navy aircraft it's Navy 1 etc. BTW- let's keep the traditional paint scheme!

Marine One is the designated call sign for any marine HMX-1 aircraft that carries him. Army One and Navy One are never used, just in papers. However as the WH and the Pentagon confirmed in a press briefing a cpuple years ago, AF1 and AF2 are for any aircraft carrying them. The president actually has a small propellor plane used for transport to Camp David, that is designated AF1 when he on board. That is ATC for you.

Yes there was an outstanding plane that surpassed the current Air Force One in many ways. The queen of the sky is the 747, but Concorde was just the goddess of the sky.

The planes that will be used for the new AF1 have been redesigned. That's why they come with a cost of $2 billion each. These are one off custom versions of the 747-8, not the standard passenger version for commercial airline use.

They should modernize the paint and change it to black or red to make it look more modern and sleek. The dumb old blue looks too much like a normal airline like Russian Aeroflot or American Airlines.
when you buy a car, one of the first things you notice is how fast is it? well. the house that builds that car declares it as the maximum speed limit x, but you will never get there, because before you get there, your wheels jump, the radiator jumps, you lose your car plate, and you don't see anything at the sides of the guide .. ..what do you deduce?
@@titaniumspecial4207 The structural designlimit of the airframe determans the maximum speed of the plane. In case of 747-8 it cannot go beyond the speed of sound. So subsonic or 1< mach.

But honestly, I actually kind of dig the new dark blue, white and red stripe design. It's different, but I do like the original. It's an iconic staple of the President. Whether or not Biden will undo the change, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be disappointed if he stuck with the new design.

Incorrectly states this is the fastest passenger plane at Mach 1. Concorde (a passenger plane) flew at Mach 2.04.
TU144 was faster than Concorde at Mach 2.15
And it cannot reach Mach 1

It all looks so cold. It kind of has the dentist office feel to it. The bedroom doesn't look particularly inviting. Everything is so white it's going to take a crew working 24/7 to keep it clean. Definitely not the interior that I would choose. Also, Air Force One is not the name given to the president flying in any aircraft. For example, if he was flying in a private jet, the call sign would be Executive One.

The last President who flew commercial while in office was Jimmy Cater. No other President has flown private of commercial since the 70’s
I also have a car, in Romania, Bucharest, a van from 2008, blue inscribed on the sides above with AIR FORCE ONE and the president seal above the doors, in front of the bonnet and at the rear doors above. I'm very proud of that. Some people look very surprised when they pass by the car. :)
I always wanted to fly this presidential plane too, but I know for sure that this will never happen. I haven't even flown a plane to my 57th birthday so far. Yet! I would like it to be the first flight from Romania to the United States. He thinks he's already dreaming. :( :)
And then, I would like to travel all over America from east to west and vice versa with Amtrack. This reminds me of the movie I saw when I was a child at almost 14 years old, in Romania at the cinema, Silver Streack (1976). What a movie ..., what music, action, dialogues with jokes, everything ... And I still dream now. I got on the train from a plane but ... it's still good if I were in America ... If! :)

Wow! A heart monitor! Just like on my 3 year old smart phone.
No really. Even the most up to date phone has very basic functions compared to a full heart monitor. And it won't be 'just' a heart monitor, but an entire vitals sensor suite.
What? Heart monitors are still current technology, and will continue to be even in hospitals that won’t even be built for 5 years. I’m not sure that’s what I would have chosen to rip on when it comes to technological innovations in a plane.

So much white and blue will look like a hospital, the point of the plain is to provide comfort and security, a mirror of the Oval office, I'm sure the decorations will be close but not this drastic.
The redesign under the trump admin (and obama admin?) looked much better. It was much more simple and actually had a cool paint job.

If they wanted to build a suspersonic 747 they should have changed the wings to more of a delta config . . . . imagine something with a 225 ft. wingspan and 4 massive engines hanging off them going supersonic, it is already an amazing feat of engineering it can travel as fast as it can subsonic

I think the existing color scheme of AirForce One should remain for the new fleet that is coming !! It is iconic, has world wide recognition and a softer more impressive appearance than the proposed colors !!

Air Force one isn’t any aircraft, it’s any Air Force aircraft. The helicopter isn’t called Air Force one for example, it’s marine one since it’s operated by the marines.
