Hitchhiking on these small islands is a common way to get around and a fantastic way to meet locals. Even before the rain started, we had at least a few people stop to offer us rides. We were happy to stretch our legs and take in the place at a walking pace. Plus, how are we going to ask to be dropped off at the blue eyed eels when we don't speak Tahitian or French?!? But, once the weather turned, we were stoked they were keen to pick up a couple of soggy Americans.

"It's not the weather, it's the gear!" (and usually the attitude). Really liked the waking up in paradise lead into the intro!
Me and some friends were lost in the mountains outside of Marseille. We were on a poorly marked hiking trail and got lost. After several hours we found a town and water but we were miles from our car. We headed cross country because night would fall if we took the road. We made it to the next road and started thumbing for a ride. A French couple stopped in a tiny hatchback to pick the 3 of us up. We all managed to squeeze in and the woman started talking to us in broken English. She was young and beautiful with a bright smile and big pregnant belly. Her husband was driving and they had just returned from an area hospital getting a pregnancy checkup. They drove us all the way to our car. We were miles out of their way but they took us anyway. We cobbled together some gas money and tried to repay some of their kindness. They were a great young couple. She was so excited to use her English. She was terrible but far better than any of our French. That baby she was carrying would be about 20 years old now. Thanks for bringing back the memory.

In Huahine 35 plus years ago, remember it like it was yesterday. When you pronounced the island name Wahine I was wait a minute, have I been saying it wrong all these years!? Glad you got drenched!!!! And I'm sure that was the best Papaya you ever had!! Cheers Guys from Foggy San Francisco!!!

Your lifestyle is one most can only dream about,.... Or live it through your videos. My wife and I are nearing our retirement years, (4 more years). Seems like we are always working, or doing stuff for others. We talk about our retirement soon to come like the day we can live and have fun. I regret that. Who waits to retire to have fun? Life gets too busy. Have followed you since early RV days. There will never be an "end of the road" for you, but more like, "Let's go back and see what we missed!". Thanks for sharing!
Rainy weather is fun too. I've been in the Appalachians in a three day rainstorm. Despite good gear, you do get completely soaked. But good news, a big enough fire WILL burn and dry you out.

Just now catching up on all your adventures. Love the subtitle that "Nikki is always this stubborn" IMO, THAT is the mark of some one that has character. I'm always hopeful for my fellow stubborn people that they have a caring person that is important in their life that is willing to show support and also appreciate that stubbornness (with a bit of gentle, caring guidance) to end up with the fruits of life (pun intended). In bed in my rv, love Sundays for sleeping in! Pulled up my Sunday UA-cam faves to watch as usual on my phone & started watching until the intro and remembered I finally have internet and can watch y'alls movies on my TV! Yours is probably the best sailing videos on UA-cam. It's so relaxing to watch....not a rollercoaster ride like other sailing videos.
It is amazing how much more happy and healthy Nikki and Jason look, compared to almost 3 years ago, when they started sailing!

Your adventures are so wonderful and you two make it simply great to watch, then I see that there are ignorant people who give you a thumbs down, I am so sorry there are people who cannot see the beauty you bring us via these videos, places I would never get to see otherwise, the thumbs down says a whole lot more about them than you. Wow what beautiful wood that was on that red tree that had been cut. Again Jason you gave me a good laugh with your awesome dancing. Nikki I love your narrations of the fruit and flowers. Great video. And Nikki's always present smile even being caught in a downpour is refreshing. Quick weather update from home, We had a weekend of storms and tornados. Most severe in East Texas.
Eek, hopefully no major damages. I have so many stormy memories from growing up in West Texas. Watching the tornadoes drop down and then running into the cellar when my grandmother would yell at me. Gathering softball sized hail and storing it in the freezer just to oogle at. 🌪️ It's a wild and sometimes unforgiving season. Stay safe!
@@gonewiththewynns I really wish I could report some good news but there was extensive damage to Alto and to the Caddo Mounds. The park office at Caddo Mounds is gone. Also on a sadder note the last report I heard was 4 deaths due to the tornados. Also being a lifelong Texan this is something we expect in the spring. This band of storms came in farther South than normal. Bright and sunny now. Keep the videos coming, I am living my retirement dream vicariously through ya'll.
