I'm about 150 episodes in on your adventures and I have watched you both go through the shopping and huge purchase of your boat, and the major life transition to the boat from the RV. Watched your first sail, watched you as you climbed volcanos and a glacier, boat overcrowding and family and friends leaving. Seen you when the sail breaks at the same time as the engine even replace leaking windows. Through all this I've never seen Nikki lose her cool, upbeat, happy-go-lucky attitude. Even understanding that fruit isnt always ripe and the insects need to eat it too. Right up until she spills that beer. That's a good woman you have there Jason.
Jacques Brel wrote "Le Moribond" which was translated and recorded by The Kingston Trio and later Terry Jacks as "Seasons in the Sun". He was a wonderful songwriter.
Was in Hiva Oa back in June of 1977. Only two boats at anchor. No docks, no showers, no store, no police to take passports, dirt roads.... But there was one nice bakery in town. Just happy to have arrived safely since we had no GPS and only did navigation by opening up a book and learning on the way from HIlo using sextants. Hiva Oa was our first landfall. Thought we might miss it by 100 miles. Oh yeah, no air-conditioning and obviously no video or internet. They did have a post office on the island and as I remember we had a mass attack by flying fish that filled up the dingy and nearly poked out our eyes. Too small to eat. BTW, prior to leaving Hilo 23 days earlier, I had never been on a sailboat before. Nice initial lesson in sailing. Ended up in New Zealand months later and have never been on a sailing boat since. Great experience to have done when young and reckless (reckless meaning no experience with navigation, no radio, and a worthless leaky dingy that would have never saved us if we were in trouble)
2:12 My favourite flower and one of my favourite smells: the frangipani (plumeria). I had a frangipani tree in my backyard until I was 15 and there were several monster-sized trees that I climbed. I know that there are white and pink and yellow and pink varieties, but I love the white and yellow ones like Nikki has here.
I appreciate the music you add to your videos. The scenery is usually stunning and your interactions are the icing on the cake! Thanks for all that you share.
Wow........i know the Hiva Oa from Google earth, and all plant, fruit, and flower same as here😁😁😁😁😁😍. I live in Indonesia, Hiva Oa is beautiful island, love it 🥰
As you have no doubt discovered, there are few if any really protected anchorages in the Marquesas due to there being almost no coral growing there that would provide protective reefs. Nevertheless, a visit there is well worth the rolliness of the anchorages. When we landed on Hiva Oa two years ago the first people we talked to in that little anchorage were Reilly and Elana who still had their original LaVagabonde. In fact they helped us set out our stern anchor. We later had sundowners with them. Nice people!
I’ve been watching all your “older” videos since discovering you. Thank you for taking me to places I most likely will never get to myself. But you’re inspiring me to go where I can and as soon as I can. I love your work and enjoy them immensely!!!
Another wonderfully entertaining video! Thank you again for all you put into these. I have watched the craft beer sequence at least 10 times and literally LOL each time. I am so sorry you had to sacrifice your beer for the camera Nikki, but your reactions are so funny! Particularly the groan just before you cut to the wiping up the floor scene. LOLOL You sound exactly like our grand daughter Bryanna (20 years old and lives with us) when she lets out that “groan of frustration”. We even told her she needed to watch it together with us because it sounds just like her…she did and cracked up. Afterwards, my wife said to her, “Isn’t she cute!”, Bryanna responded, “She is!”
Being a huge D. Bowie fan, I learned of J. Brel through his song "My Death" when Bowie sung it in his Ziggy Stardust days. I love that song, esp. the live versions here on YT.
I’m diggin’ the new intro! I also loved the fact that you filmed one day in sequence, which makes more sense to my simple mind😉. Betcha its a far easier edit too. ❤️
Absolutely breathtaking scenery. That cemetery - how fascinating - yes, Paul Gauguin (American English Pronunciation - GO-GAN) famous post impressionist. I'm shocked (although I shouldn't be) you found his grave-site. I cannot WAIT for the rest of your videos. Thank you!
Here's one we used to use in Hawaii when we couldn't wait for ripe mangoes: 1/2 cup rice vinegar, 1 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup granulated white sugar. Heat until the sugar dissolves, then let cool. While it's cooling, slice up a couple of almost-ripe mangoes. Once the liquid's cooled, pour it in a bowl over the mango slices. It's good, but it's strong. A taste of my childhood on the islands to your north.
That big prickly fruit is called a Jack Fruit. I'm surprised you haven't seen them before. They are pretty popular here in Mexico. My understanding is they have a taste similar to Wrigley''s chewing gum. The flower you wore over your ear is a Plumeria, they are the primary flower used in Hawaii for their lei's.
Any time I see a dark beer I want a taste because dark beers are my passion. Great drone video perspective again which is one of my favorite sections of your total videos. Thank you.
I love your new intro too and the map feature. Ahhh, plumeria in the hair should be a thing in more places! (It's true -- taken ladies wear them on the left)! Gauguin is pronounced more like "Go-GAN." I got to spend 3 lovely weeks on the M/S Paul Gauguin in 2017, so you learn. Next you will learn to say "Ia Orana!" -- sounds like "Ya O-RAN-ah," the Tahitian greeting throughout the islands. The little grey doves are "nene" to the locals, but zebra dove to birders. (But I bet you know these things by now.) You guys already know so many of the fruits! By next year, you could pick up decent ukelele skills! And you have time to dive for pearls and get a tattoo or two, too. I have been in that grocery store in Atuona! :D I SO love reliving French Polynesia with you!
Guanábana is the name we give to the unknown fruit in video at 7:12time. We had one tree next to the house. My dad loves it. It has white pulp and big black seeds. Not sweet nor sour.
Paul Gauguin is pronounced "gogan". Yes he is quite famous. Up there with Picasso and Van Gogh. Come to DC sometime and see some of his paintings in the museum of art.
We've toured the museum in DC (and the Louvre in France) many times so my guess is we probably have seen his work. There's even a cruise ship named after him in Tahiti.
Carolyn Burelbach When you've seen as much as they have it's probably hard to remember EVERYTHING! I'm sure there's 100 things on that boat you know nothing about... So what?
I used to spend my Sunday afternoons in the Museum of Art in DC because the lectures and audio tours were free. I did so many Sunday afternoons there before I met my husband. I guess those experiences were useful after all.
Carolyn Burelbach make that Paul Gogain as pronunciation. Ai as diphthong. Since the English has so few of them, ah well, forgiven seems the word to use...
Hello Jason and Nikki, Sorry for being so wordy ... After watching your '585 Hours' vid, on arriving in FP, I started to binge watch all of your videos. (Recuperating from a broken arm and knee surgery, thanks to a big, fat, green juicy grape hiding around a blind corner at the grocery store; am fine, but bored until I found you guys.) I live in the Bay Area and learned to sail in San Francisco Bay often in 40 knots! Alas, never went far enough with the training to sail out under the Gate. Plus, I have scuba-ed in many places around the world: live aboard and many week-end / day trips. I was bitten by the travel bug, age 5, on a family vacation to Indiana, a mere 250 miles from our home in Ohio. Then went on to Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, India, and Asia. Your interests are right up my alley!! After watching your boat purchase, learning to sail and Bahamas videos, I felt your pain ... about not having enough fruits and vegetables once you were at sea. Maybe not a problem in FP, but maybe a small garden would be a good way to save money and prepare for your next voyage or destination. Got me to thinking ... why not grow food onboard. By now, you are experienced and confident sailers who can take on a new challenge. From my vantage point, from your vids, I see a bit of counter and shelf space for maybe 10-20, say, 6-8 inch pots. - Keep it simple, water-tight, and securely attached to surfaces. Group 5 or so pots, in plastic bins, so you can easily move in and out of the sun, rain or wind. Most green, leafy vegetables and herbs will grow in warm, moist climates. Many just need indirect sunlight. I am thinking: spinach, leaf lettuce, basil, cilantro, tarragon ... and many more options. FIRST, consider growing SPROUTs: alfalfa, all kinds of beans and seeds, wheat berries. Give a fresh, crunchy addition to lots of different kinds of meals, sandwiches, breads, and salads. Just need canning-type glass jars, seeds, a bit of water and an open, screw on lid covered in screen material. Put in a drawer or under the sink, change the water every day or two, and you will have sprouts in about 5 days. One of many links: wellnessmama.com/36686/grow-sprouts/ CAUTION: use rain water if possible. Most RO systems do not remove enough of the salt from the water that plants prefer. Plus, there is nothing better than a rain water hair rinse. I googled and found Tahiti Garden Center in Pape'ete. Looks like it is very close to places to dock. Check to see if there is a nursery in the Marquesas Islands. tahitigardencenter8.wixsite.com/tahiti-garden-center Their website is in French and English. So beautiful and calming. I can just smell the island through your video and perfect choice of music. I actually felt relaxed and content. Your the ambassadors we need to show what we're really like as an American.
Great episode - again. Easy to see why Thor Heyerdahl was inspired to understand who came to these islands and go on to build the Kon Tiki to prove his point. Thank you for sharing your amazing adventures with us all. This place is on our list.. 👍
Thanks for showing the miles walked on the watch. Great how active you can be and stay healthy just getting out and about, I have to remind myself to do that more all the time. It comes a lot more naturally in a place like that too, doesn't feel like forced exercise!
Wow guys... Me again :) What a notable difference in the quality of your videos content... Love the new intro, and the work you've done! Amazing!! Safe sailing.. And keep up the good work, you're one of the best entertainment channels on here :) Luv ya both 😘😘
First of all... I'm enjoying the new production upgrade. Filming and editing are improved over previous episodes. I also enjoy the new intro. Don't worry about those negative-nancy types. LOL
Even the pigeons look French LOL. Some mangoes you can pick immature and they will ripen. Those are marketed and sold under the name of honey crisp. So what they do is pick off the smaller fruits that are going to impede production. And that’s what they market and sell as a honey crisp. You do this a lot in agriculture. I am so glad that people are finally utilizing the things that they pick off. I call it junior vegetation.
i really like how you explain all the details of life the ups and the downs of this life on the boat i live through your adventures love love you guys wish i could be the boat next door to you
Still loving the new intro. I can't get over the beauty and dirt; living here in a concrete jungle bay area. I could almost smell the flowers and join you Nikki eating it all. Have fun and stay safe.
I'm so jealous! Not really, but I'm 10 months sober and your restraint in paradise is amazing. Sorry you lost what little you had there I guess that's life on the water. Regardless, I love the scenery and the views you capture with the drone are stunning. Thanks for taking us along.
So very glad that 'land ho' and back walking on it again. How was it when you took that first step on land??? I bet it was wonderful. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. So lush and green. Thanks for taking me on this epic journey.
Beautiful landscape - what a journey! You both look like you could use some rest, so sit back and relax. I’m sure another beer will find it’s way into your cooler.
the fruit that you ate is very good if you shaken it with rock salt. we called it duhat in the Philippines and its very good to regulate blood sugar if you are diabetic.
Fruit galore everywhere. I live in Ft Lauderdale and that one Sour Sop fruit is over $20 in the US. Going thru Cancer and that Fruit works wonders along with the leaves. Excellent for tea and they help beat CANCER. Also that is amazing footage that you both have taken. Very Beautiful 🌸 ⛵️
Lovely seeing all the fruit growing wild. I don't drink but I felt your pain Nikki, but it was a Hero's task save the Beer our save the Camera. Jason quickly finished his off so it was not in the equation and safe and ran to your aid. Are ! Dose not the five second rule apply to beer spilt.😭
Man I like see you guys changing a tire on an Alaskan road and then I'm watching you all on a sailboat ⛵in the Pacific ocean that's wild grabbing life by the tail and hanging on.
God, you guys!!! For some reason this video looks so high quality!! HDCity!! I really LOVE the new intro and map you added....it’s perfect! I just love you guys and all the inspiration you add to my life! Nikki, you look so fresh and pretty in the beginning clip of this video, you’re the best!! *just had to comment quick, I’m headed back to the rest of the video ❤️*

And that's the difference between everyday adversity and tragedy!

The Marquesas art tradition is so beautiful, you will not believe it. I studied their art years ago.
Frangipani flowers! Flowers of the south pacific.BEAUTIFUL!!!
Singa is such a ham! Love that cat...
The new intro is great, refreshing for this new “season”.
The spiky fruit at 7:10 is a Guanabana, Soursop. Is delicious. And also has anti cancer properties. Also the leaves can be used in tea.
If you believe in your dreams you can achieve anything. And you accomplish that goal. All love and support.
Wow, what a nice thing to say. Love and support right back atchya.

OMG not the 🍺 beer! Just love ❤️ the videos thank you for taking us along 🤗
was waiting for Jason "we can share mine.." but that didnt happen!! LOL!!!
The dog on the grave made me think he was missing his master. 😞……… I love star fruit.

pricky fruit is sour sop/custard apple, the flower is known as frangipani
They are often called Frangipani in Florida also but their Latin name is Plumeria.
That aint jack fruit dude. Thats sour sop.
I stand corrected!
Any time I see a dark beer I want a taste because dark beers are my passion. Great drone video perspective again which is one of my favorite sections of your total videos. Thank you.
This place looks like heaven. I could sit and eat fresh fruit all day. Lovely video. You two are my favorites to watch out of all the sailing videos.
I can't get over how incredibly talented you both are. Everything you do is top notch and so creative!! I'm jealous as you make it all look so easy.
I find myself smiling the whole way through, thank you ❤️
There's nothing like the Marquesas. Wonderful people, great abundance of food and you will never forget the smell of these islands :). A magical place
At least you didn't break the glass! Wonderful video and music. I really appreciate all of your hard work on these videos. It shows! xx SGG

I laughed my hinny off when the camera was falling over then almost cried when I heard you sacrificed your beer.
Ugh!! Dang beer!! Love y'all
Glad you landed! I miss all the fruit, keep your eye out for avocados, they are huge🌺🌺🌺
Such a pristine island! Absolutely stunning!!
An adult dropping a beer is like a child losing a balloon. My condolences. Thanks for another great upload!
For some grown people it's like when kids drop candy on a street and pick it up and eat it.
The new production quality is fantastic 👌
Hello Jason and Nikki,
Sorry for being so wordy ...
After watching your '585 Hours' vid, on arriving in FP, I started to binge watch all of your videos. (Recuperating from a broken arm and knee surgery, thanks to a big, fat, green juicy grape hiding around a blind corner at the grocery store; am fine, but bored until I found you guys.)
I live in the Bay Area and learned to sail in San Francisco Bay often in 40 knots! Alas, never went far enough with the training to sail out under the Gate. Got me to thinking ... why not grow food onboard. By now, you are experienced and confident sailers who can take on a new challenge. From my vantage point, from your vids, I see a bit of counter and shelf space for maybe 10-20, say, 6-8 inch pots.

Loved seeing your taste of Colorado in the French Polynesia!! Love me some Avery!
Great episode - again. Easy to see why Thor Heyerdahl was inspired to understand who came to these islands and go on to build the Kon Tiki to prove his point.
Thank you for sharing your amazing adventures with us all. This place is on our list.. 👍
True. Not sure whether the Kon Tiki had AC though.
Love the new intro! Especially the map with the pin drop. And Singa, tapping her tail :)
Thanks for showing the miles walked on the watch. Great how active you can be and stay healthy just getting out and about, I have to remind myself to do that more all the time. It comes a lot more naturally in a place like that too, doesn't feel like forced exercise!
1:16 into this vlog and Holy Moley Batman !! You shared volumes of info in just a few words!!!!! BTW, love the new tan strap on your watch !! 😊👍👌👊⛵️⚓️
Really like the new intro, bummer about the beer.
You have the cleanest interior of any boat and your glasses sparkle.I see so many videos where the glasses looked unwashed from who knows how long.
Good stuff guys, cannot wait to get to the next episodes. 👍
Interesting cemetery, I believe those are Plumeria blossoms...beautiful scent!
My favourite flower...Tiare!! The most beautiful aroma ever!!
Loved the intro, the editing the music track the scenery. Loved everything. Magical. 👍
I never wanted to buy someone a beer, more in my life!
Sadie Miller
...an Imperial Stout... at 12% abv...
beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing it with us. Can't wait to see the footage of you swimming with the rays. ;-)
At least you saved the camera...the loss of that beer brought a tear to me eye...sniff. Thanks for taking us along.
Enjoy your Pacific passage !
Wow guys... Me again :)
What a notable difference in the quality of your videos content... Love the new intro, and the work you've done! Amazing!!
Safe sailing.. And keep up the good work, you're one of the best entertainment channels on here :)
Luv ya both 😘😘
WOW , amazing place. thank you BT
Interesting landscape and flora
It's such a privilege to see such well edited and beautiful videos on your journeys!
That is a beautiful island...8 miles walking?! Wow that a lotta steps! I think I woulda just fell over with the camera! Safe travels guys!
First of all... I'm enjoying the new production upgrade. Filming and editing are improved over previous episodes. I also enjoy the new intro. Don't worry about those negative-nancy types. LOL
Wow good tune choices.
Your shares are so enjoyable, I can't thank you enough. Great save too. Jason's mom will send you more beer. Cheers.
Even the pigeons look French LOL.

I didn't notice and had to re-watch, thanks for pointing that out. PS it was good.
Still loving the new intro. I can't get over the beauty and dirt; living here in a concrete jungle bay area. I could almost smell the flowers and join you Nikki eating it all. Have fun and stay safe.
So lucky you are to be there for months... what a dreamy place.... have fun....
Beautiful! My favorite part of Sunday!
The flower you picked up before entering the graveyard and placed in your hair is a Frangipani
I'm so jealous! Not really, but I'm 10 months sober and your restraint in paradise is amazing. Sorry you lost what little you had there I guess that's life on the water. Regardless, I love the scenery and the views you capture with the drone are stunning. Thanks for taking us along.

New Intro! Love it guys, Love love. New music choices are really nice and fun too, so bravo all around.
Beautiful landscape - what a journey! You both look like you could use some rest, so sit back and relax. I’m sure another beer will find it’s way into your cooler.
Love the new intro and all the additional graphics!
the fruit that you ate is very good if you shaken it with rock salt. we called it duhat in the Philippines and its very good to regulate blood sugar if you are diabetic.
What a place, enjoy your stay and thanks for sharing it just gets better and better. Stay safe.
14:23 sacré bleu!
😭🍺😭
I imagine that Porter tasting like a delicious dessert. Enjoy
Love the new intro......you guys loom so happy
Man I like see you guys changing a tire on an Alaskan road and then I'm watching you all on a sailboat ⛵in the Pacific ocean that's wild grabbing life by the tail and hanging on.
Like the new intro. Now I can tell difference between Cleo and Singa.😸
Greetings from Dallas! Bummer about your beer Nikki! I hate wasting a good drink of any kind. Beautiful video! I enjoy every one of them.
That's why I love being a French Resident (Carte de Residence)
Ahhhhhhhh, you committed a beer violation. 🤗😀🤙🏾👌🏾👏🏾😊😎👋🏾
Excellent as usual!!! Sad for the lost beer....
Beautiful shots! Thank you!
That was a tough call Nikki.....I might have gone for saving the beer after all those days without!🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
God, you guys!!!
You can use cat litter crystals. They are designed to absorb moisture. Just another way to help keep the moisture and mold down.
Loving the new intro opening. 👍👍👍
Always great videos. Keep having fun.
just wow.
The really beautiful and fragrant white and yellow flowers are called Frangipani
