I worked as a fish processer. I've seen how the fish sausage is made. I will never eat fish sticks or a salmon patty for the rest of my life. This looks like a good recipe though.

Down here in the south (Miami), buttery cheesy grits is a must with salmon croquettes. Man I have never seen them made with fresh salmon. I'm used to the pink or red salmon in the can. I make mine the same way except egg and AP flour is used as the binder not mayo. I sautee onions, bellpeppers, and minced garlic. You have definitely put me up on game. I will be trying your recipe.
That's exactly what my grandmother used. Cost effective when you have to make money stretch, and feed a fairly large family. I later tried it with salmon, (just to see). As it turns out, I actually prefer the mackerel. Lol
Yes Yes Yes! I didn't know that Jack Mackerel wasn't salmon, even though I was reading the can. I just thought it was a code name for salmon, because my mother always said it was salmon croquettes she was making not Mackerel! I was almost grown before I went shopping for my mom and she wanted to make salmon croquettes and I actually saw with my own eyes the canned salmon! Her excuse for calling Mackerel, Salmon was the price! My mother could make change from a penny!😉😄

This bought back so many memories of my grandma. We’d have these mostly for breakfast and some times when breakfast was gonna be dinner. She’d alway make a big pot of grits, homemade biscuits with cane syrup and fried fatback or bacon from the smokehouse my uncle had. Not the healthiest, but it kept the fam fed in my neck of the woods back in GA😊 Thanks for sharing.

I usually use canned salmon or tuna to make my croquettes, and never for breakfast (mostly for brunch or dinner). You had to have Brer Rabbit syrup for breakfast.She made rice with it for dinner. She's been gone 20 years now and I haven't had them since. I know how to make them but you can't perfect Mama's. Interesting to see other ways to make croquettes. I use canned salmon, corn meal, flour, egg, seasoning and chopped onion. We eat them for dinner with rice and veg. Don’t use mayo I use the liquid from the can to keep them moist. Use the spoon to form the patties and drop it into your pan? Yum
That’s how my family makes ours and if for dinner we eat fried skillet potatoes and cream corn with them. If for breakfast the same kind of taters and scrambled eggs! Talk about delicious 🤤
I do not used Kero syrup on biscuits. I am from Alabama, we use Alaga syrup, and some hot biscuits with cheese grits and chop up the salmon croquettes in the grits. We used to eat this breakfast on Sunday mornings before we went to church.
AB I really thought this recipe was lost when my mom passed in 2014. She used the red can of salmon and it was a Sunday breakfast before church. She paired them with toast and orange or apple juice. I watch your videos but the more I watch the more I miss my mom. Thanks AB!
My Grandma, born 1917, made these on occasion and she called them Salmon Cakes. She was born and raised on NC's Coast. She didn't add the red pepper or cayenne, but everything else, plus a scrambled egg mixture, yes!! Yours looked divine!! She served them for Supper. She liked Salted Herrings if fish was for breakfast. Now, that's old school, lol. Edit: Or Rockfish Roe.

Praise the lord and AB. We do the pre-made patties (not as good): I fry up opinion rings, bell pepper. When the salmon is almost done I put a pineapple slice on the patties then some Yashidas teriyaki sauce in the hole of the pineapple slice. Then transfer the opinions and bell pepper to the patty. We use sandwich thins to reduce the calories and serve with sweet potato fries. One of our favorite lower cal meals. Thanks for the video I’m going to try to do my own patties.

All Praises to The Father! Sir, this receipe is the best! I did change it up a little. I added about 1/4 cup of honey mustard. I added an egg, substituted JO with Ole Bay, and I used salmon in the can. It was delicious and the family enjoyed it too. Most High Bless you in your endeavors Sir.

Mom used to make these with canned salmon, egg, onion, s&p, flour as the binder. No sauté, just mix everything & fry. They were so yummy!

I'm old school, and we used to call them salmon "croquettes" in my house where I grew up. My mom always used the canned salmon. But I must say I think the fresh salmon looks a whole lot better! I'm definitely gonna try making these fresh ones myself. Can't wait to try them. :)

One of my favorite things my grandma use to make! Now it's my kids favorite as well. Idk about the karo, but ketchup is my go to for these. Paired with a few slices of avocado, and fruit on the side. Thanks for sharing a old school classic fresh style!!!

My husband is from Tupelo Mississippi. His mom made these with mackeral because it was cheaper but I make these with salmon. Until I saw your video, I would poach the salmon in milk. No more! This recipe rocks on every level including taking no time at all to make! Thank you for teaching!
All Praises to The Father! Sir, this receipe is the best! I did change it up a little. I added about 1/4 cup of honey mustard. I added an egg, substituted JO with Ole Bay, and I used salmon in the can. It was delicious and the family enjoyed it too. Most High Bless you in your endeavors Sir.

Usually use canned salmon and will throw in leftover fresh if I have any. Like green bell pepper and onion and use egg to bind. Thanks for this!

My grandmother made these every week. Any day of the week for breakfast with creamy grits. She used the canned. It was so good. Brings back sweet memories.
