    I don't eat enough fish but let me tell you when I made this OMG! I actually tasted the depth in it!! I made it for a loved one and they have been thinking about it for several months to the point where they want it for their anniversary dinner!! Thank you SO much for breaking everything down and making it simple! The outcome is SO worth the effort!!

      Yup....We are not eating meat for lent (we're Catholic), but we eat fish on Friday. Our church does a cat fish fry every Friday night during lent, and I love catfish, but I have been trying to keep my gallbladder. The doctor told me to stop eating anything deep-fried. I thought about salmon patties. I can't wait until Friday. I'm going to make a batch to bring to church. I think it's only those of us from the South who grew up eating salmon patties for breakfast on special occasions like Aunties, Uncles, and cousins coming to visit.

    I caught some Blue fish while fishing in North Carolina and the guide I was with told me one of the best ways to eat it is to make fish cakes.
    I used this recipe and let me tell you… it did not disappoint. They were out of this world! Even better than the salmon ones in my opinion. Maybe even better than crab cakes.

    This recipe is delicious. I made it exactly as shown, but toned down the heat a little in the dipping sauce. Baking the salmon is always a better idea, it tastes so much better than what you’ll dump out of a tin can. This’ll be my go-to recipe for salmon croquettes.

    We always had the canned salmon for salmon patties too. We still do lol my mother in law makes hers with fried diced taters, homemade fried okra and usually some kind of dried beans.
    My mom makes hers with fresh salmon now days. If my nanny was still cooking she would be using canned still.

  • @martna1
    @martna1 2 роки тому +3

    I make mine simply. Canned salmon because I can't afford fresh. Big bowl and tear up 1 slice of bread for 1 can of salmon. Add onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, 1 egg, 3 T of water, in addition to the liquid in the can. Let sit for 10 mins. Make patties and lay on waxed paper. Cook in cast iron skillet 3 mins. each side on medium heat. Sometimes I add finely chopped water chestnuts for crunch. I get 4 patties from a can, so 4 meals as I am alone.

Given the fact that food prices are off the chain, I've invested in a FoodSaver packaging system as I'm trying to buy in bulk whenever I can. They've also been rumoring food shortages so 'struggle dishes' would also be appreciated. Thanks for the good work you do.

    Those look awesome I have some frozen salmon fillets can I use those? If so that's what's for dinner tomorrow. I grew up with canned but this looks 100 times better
