I don't eat enough fish but let me tell you when I made this OMG! I actually tasted the depth in it!! I made it for a loved one and they have been thinking about it for several months to the point where they want it for their anniversary dinner!! Thank you SO much for breaking everything down and making it simple! The outcome is SO worth the effort!!
I grew up with the can and have 4 cans in the pantry. Going to see my mother this weekend, I'm going with groceries nothing like some salmon croquettes rice and scrambled eggs for a Sunday breakfast. She will love it. Thanks for the video💐
Yup....We are not eating meat for lent (we're Catholic), but we eat fish on Friday. Our church does a cat fish fry every Friday night during lent, and I love catfish, but I have been trying to keep my gallbladder. The doctor told me to stop eating anything deep-fried. I thought about salmon patties. I can't wait until Friday. I'm going to make a batch to bring to church. I think it's only those of us from the South who grew up eating salmon patties for breakfast on special occasions like Aunties, Uncles, and cousins coming to visit.
I call them salmon patties and love them with either rice or grits! Grew up with the can but when started cooking my own with fresh salmon because hated taking the bones out of the can.
I caught some Blue fish while fishing in North Carolina and the guide I was with told me one of the best ways to eat it is to make fish cakes. I used this recipe and let me tell you… it did not disappoint. They were out of this world! Even better than the salmon ones in my opinion. Maybe even better than crab cakes. What a great recipe!
Thanks for this wonderful salmon recipe! My Mom always used canned salmon, but I look forward to making these using fresh. I also wanted to thank you for all of these incredible recipes during a time when so many restaurants were closed, and we were challenged to make interesting and tasty meals on our own. You've been a real inspiration, Matt, and again THANK YOU!
We love Salmon patties. and yes I still use the can Salmon to make mine. I'll definitely give your recipe a try.. thanks again for another delicious recipe Matt. Love From your Indiana Friend.
This recipe is delicious. I made it exactly as shown, but toned down the heat a little in the dipping sauce. Baking the salmon is always a better idea, it tastes so much better than what you’ll dump out of a tin can. This’ll be my go-to recipe for salmon croquettes.
We always had the canned salmon for salmon patties too. We still do lol my mother in law makes hers with fried diced taters, homemade fried okra and usually some kind of dried beans. My mom makes hers with fresh salmon now days. If my nanny was still cooking she would be using canned still.
Grew up on the canned salmon. I can’t wait to make it your way…this weekend !!! So many food ideas come to mind i would love to see your recipe for it…ribs, patty melt, fajitas, lamb chops, oxtails, pizza, and quesadillas.
Masterpiece. Looks delicious. I grew up in the 1960s - 1970s, on the Southside of Chicago. My Mom cooked Salmon croquettes, using canned Salmon. Back then we couldn't afford fresh Salmon. But, now I love fresh Salmon. This recipe is amazing. Thanks
Wow those Salmon Patties look amazingly delicious. I grew up with the Salmon Patties made from Salmon in the Can. As an adult I still use the can Salmon to make Salmon Patties. The next time that I make Salmon Patties, I am gong to try fresh Salmon. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
I would love if you offered some meals that are freezer-friendly. Given the fact that food prices are off the chain, I've invested in a FoodSaver packaging system as I'm trying to buy in bulk whenever I can. They've also been rumoring food shortages so 'struggle dishes' would also be appreciated. Thanks for the good work you do.
My mother used the canned salmon when making cakes many, many years ago, so that is what I have always used. I just happen to have a nice big salmon fillet in the freezer with no current plan to use and this video popped up on my feed this morning. Coincidence? I think not... ;) Thanks for the very clear instructions and video showing what the mixture and final cooked cakes should look like. You just gained a new subscriber!
Good Evening..... Loved the presentation!!! Fresh salmon n roasted garlic.... WOW!!! I used can salmon now but.... Back in my childhood days my mom and grandmothers used jack mackerel.... I guess because it was cheaper. We called them croquettes whether they were made from the canned salmon or jack mackerel. Does anybody remember that???
@@mflournoy2971 If that's what it means, I didn't mean it in that way. Jeez. I meant it in a term of endearment. As in his overall energy, his aura, his style, his attractiveness. I'll have to catch up on more of Tariq Nasheeds content.😏
This was the BEST tasting Salmon Croquettes I've ever cooked doing it with fresh Salmon. I didn't know what I was missing. Thank you for sharing and adding more food love to my life. I appreciate it. 🤗🙌🏾
Great video, I finally made salmon cakes from fresh salmon a few years ago. I grow up on can salmon and still keep them on hand especially during hurricane season. I’m excited to try your recipe. Thanks for sharing 🔥❤️
Was just here 2 wks ago like “I can’t believe he doesn’t have a salmon cake recipe”! Thanks for reading my mind!! Making these for Sunday Brunch with some Henny Mimosas!
So I just made this, sauce and all, the problem I got right now is it’s EARLY afternoon and I’m suppose to make shrimp and grits, oh your recipe too😁, for dinner, BUT I have eaten 1 and I NEED to stop to save rest😎. You are the BEST COOK I HAVE NEVER MET!!!! These coquettes are DELICIOUS!!!! And that sauce, WOW!!!Thank you soo much.
I didn't grow up eating salmon cakes, but my kids did. I used grilled leftover salmon (not the band) and placed the cakes in Panko on both sides before frying. I never thought to bake salmon to make these babies, so thanks for the idea!!
Oh man, looking good for sure! I've gotta make these ASAP. Just made your stuffed BBQ meatloaf for the family last night and they absolutely loved it. The sauce was amazing!
OMG!! Those look amazing, I will definitely find those. And yes I grew up with the salmon out of the can. They are pretty good but I know the wont have nothing on these. I cant wait 😁
Definitely grew up eating the canned stuff (still do lol, nostalgia). But when I can I make it just like this but I’ve gotta try it with the roasted garlic. LOOKING GOOD LOOKING GOOD!
This is so cool I made these a few days ago for me and my neighbors . I was thinking about doing a simple tutorial. However I am camera shy, plus! I do not have proper equipment.
I couldn't stand the can ones. Stopped eating salmon for a long time. But this one looks better. Don't know why I never thought about doing this. Thank you. New subscriber
Oh yeah this is fancy. My mother and grandmother opened a can to make their croquettes. Canned Salmon was for Easter Sundays. Any other other time they used tuna fish.
Those look awesome I have some frozen salmon fillets can I use those? If so that's what's for dinner tomorrow. I grew up with canned but this looks 100 times better
Just wondering if instead of using panko breadcrumbs maybe you could get some pork rinds and grind them up? That might make it a little more carb friendly
I remember the days of salmon croquettes being made with salmon from the can, but coming from a large family it was only when the salmon was on sale -- Yummy days. Lol. A friend gave me a can a week ago. Using the can salmon should I drain all of the fluid?

so much better fresh IMO! Thank you
Definitely BETTER With Grits 😊. & Yes We Call Them Salmon Patties.
I call the salmon croquettes
I leave the bones and skin in, doesn't bother me, plus it's a source of extra omega from skin and calcium from the soft bones.
The canned bones taste good. I leave them in now after years of taking them out.
I followed your recipe to the exact measurements and am sooo happy with the results!! Delicious!! THANK YOU!!!
I made this recipe last night and it was a HUGE hit. Thanks a million for such an amazing recipe. So good!!!!
