I grew up with Salmon patty’s, fried potatoes with onions and Great Northern Beans and corn bread ... Oh what a great meal it always was !! Thank you Tammy and Chris for this reminder !!
@@bridgetgreene2457 That's was our menu too , except ours were baked beans ! Best meal , right up there with " home canned green beans and new potatoes , tomatoes from the garden , fried ( not sweet ) corn bread , pork chops cooked over charcoal and home squeezed Lemonade !! Better than steak !!
Having them tomorrow night for about the 100th time. Wife said she didn’t like salmon but, since I’m the cook and was raised during the “it’s on your plate, eat it it or sit there till you do” era (‘50’s) I made em and she could eat em or make a frozen whatever dinner. She loves ‘em. Slice ‘maters and lettuce with homemade tarter sauce (something else she didn’t like till I made it) and she’s a happy girl (actually she always is).
I like the bones and skin. When I was a kid, always in the summertime...after we had been swimming all day dad would make us cold canned salmon, cottage cheese, green onions, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, crackers and cantaloupe. Good supper there!
I love salmon patties. My mama made them a lot when I was young. I make mine just like yours with the exception of cyan pepper. One can makes enough for four people. Budget friendly and delicious.
I recently discovered “Collard Valley Cooks” and Lord have mercy I love, love, love your videos. You connect so well with us Louisiana “downhome” southern folks. Now it’s time to hit the subscribe button. “Bye Now Love Y’all”!!!!!
My grandma used to make canned mackerel patties. I never got the recipe. But, I remember her using the whole can drained, saltines, and that is as far as I remember. We did not have a lot of money, nor did they. They had us over a lot and gave me a firm and deep appreciation for family dinner.
I tried this recipe and the green onions, flour & corn meal mix are what set these salmon cakes off. I will make my salmon cakes this way from now on. 💕
I love salmon patties and so does my son his wife won’t fix them cause the smell makes her sick this was a meal that we had quite often when I was growing up, never did it this way. The way my mom fixed them was she got the big bone & the skin off added an egg, crackers, and a little flour that’s it She never measured anything she fried everything in crisco & a cast iron skillet “best non stick around “ I’m going to try it your way sounds yummy
My mama made these Croquettes when I was growing up!!😋 One of my favorites! I like them straight out of the fridge for a leftover snack! It sounded like Jade said yeah when you ask her if she could smell the croquettes!!🤗😺❤️
My Grandma (MY Mama couldn't cook) taught me hers but she used Crisco Shortening & dropped 'em like your Mama did!! 😍💖 She told me when ever I fried these in oil, to be sure to put it on the paper towel on the side that was in the grease .... otherwise the patty would soak up the oil. 🤷♀️🤷♀️❓️❓️
I love salmon patties. I will try your recipe but I always make mine with saltines instead of flour and cornmeal. In winter I make a simple salmon stew (it's really more of a soup) with canned salmon. Also I have substituted canned mackerel for salmon in the stew and they are both delicious and rely warm you up on a chilly evening.
Hi Tammy & Chris! My grandmother used to make salmon patties so your recipe certainly brought back warm memories! She would serve them with creamed peas & potatoes along with collard greens or turnip greens, too. Needless to say, my crew has enjoyed your recipe for salmon patties countless times and believe it to be the best they've ever tasted! As I recall, the first comment was, "Wow! Ms Tammy hit this one outta the ballpark!!" It's among the first of your recipes they learned to do on their own (well, with supervision, of course, complete with a very vocal kitty cat under foot!). Thanks for the demo of your recipe and for another video, y'all! 🌞
Liked! and here's my comment lol. Looks really tasty. I like the idea of the cornmeal mix. my cat loves the aroma of canned salmon as well! he meows the apartment down until I give him some. Thanks again from NYC!
I make salmon patties a lot. I do remove the skin but I crush up the bones. They crush almost like powder and contain a lot of nutrients that are very good for you. Actually the skin is the most nutritious part and I probably should leave it in also. You'd probably never know it was there. I think I'll try that next time.
My Mama throwed it all in the bowl. You can't tell the difference. I do the same thing. I'm a Ga girl also and this is the way all of us cook Salmon Patties! We was raised like this. Just a way of life! Lol.
Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!! This reminds me of my Gramma's cooking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just found your channel a few days ago but I must say I really like it!!!!!!! A lot!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started using your salmon recipe over a year ago. I had never made salmon patties before and saw a video of yours and went to your website and found this recipe. My husband and grandsons love them. There’s never any patties leftover. I had to start making a extra batch just for my oldest grandson so he could take them for his lunch the next day. I love your videos Tammy. Thank you for sharing your recipes. 😊
I have been making salmon patties my whole life. Just this year, I learned to use the 1/3 measuring cup to plop out good round patties. However today, I tried your recipe and it will be my go to recipe from here on out. They were amazing! I also added some chopped parsley in them. Hubby said I do a difference recipe each time I make them. He said KEEP this recipe! 😊
That is almost the recipe I use but I add buttermilk and use white onion instead of green and no spice my powder cayenne. It is great. When my now 51 year old Son went to pre k and I picked him up at lunch on Fridays they served salmon Pattie’s and he would come out with one in each hand and they were great! The buttermilk was their secret ingredient. I’m new and I love your show.
My Mama also made them out of mackerel, or salmon, whichever was on sale at the time. I didn't taste much of a difference. They were always so good! Makes me wonder how they would taste made from tuna?? 😁
Oh, yum, those look so delish! My mother used to make salmon croquettes. It's been years since I've had any. Will definitely make your wonderful recipe, Tammy. I wondered if your adorable kitty would smell that delicious salmon and come running. lol She is sooo cute. Definitely asks for what she wants.
This is similar to the way my mother made these, but she would add Panko and cut back, or cut out, the flour. And she made them the same way as her mother did, except Grandma always had a bit of bacon grease on hand to add "just a bit." Later on, Grandma got a flat-bottomed dutch oven and a fry basket, and she would put the salmon cakes into the basket and drop them into the oil so she didn't have to turn them, and didn't burn her hands and arms with grease spatter. I understand you cat's take on it, I can smell them cooking now!
Thank you...lots 😋 great for lent here in Mi...mom used to make forgot all about them..will make them now yummie!! You ate just too precious.very pretty!! God bless 💐🤗
I definitely take out the bones and that skin. These are one of my favorite meals with mashed potatoes, peas & mac &cheese. That’s what my granny Mary made every time she cooked them. I always fix 2 cans for just me and my husband because we eat 2 each then that leaves me 4-5 to take to work the next few days. I love cold salmon patties on a hamburger bun with miracle whip salad dressing. I’ve got to make these. Thank you… Love watching you and Chris. Have a great week. ❤

When my daughter was young, pre-teen, her favorite food was salmon Patties with creamed peas. I always thought that odd. She asked me to make them all the time. Of course nobody else in the family liked them except me. Lol😅 I used crushed saltine crackers instead of flour.
I love this recipe! They taste better than the finest restaurant in my town! You can’t go wrong when Tammy and Chris are cooking. Sorry Tammy had to add Chris! These are all that and more can’t rave to much about them. Have a blessed week. Love ya❤❤
Making them for the 3rd time this month! Using "Q" salmon. To me that's the best canned salmon where I live. I love your recipe. Don't skip Tammy's ingredients because it's the most delicious ever!!!! Oh and serving them with baby limas.
Thank you, Tammy and Chris! I *love* a salmon cake dropped on top of a bowl of homemade roasted tomato soup! I don't enjoy a soggy, heavy laden bread crumb cake. Why I use Panko crumbs (half the measure). I wish we could get White Lilly here in Canada. Still, I'll give your recipe a try with a self-rising flour from our shelves. God bless.
I grew up having these with homemade Mac n cheese, spinach and cornbread. I try and fix this when my youngest girl visits. Husband will eat them, but not a fan. Enjoy your recipe a lot. Green onions are delicious. My Mom used regular. Me too, until I read your recipe in your cookbook!
Love your channel and can’t wait to try these. I remember my mother making them and how she would pick out the bones. Sometimes we would a can of cream of mushroom soup thinned about half as a type of sauce over them. I had forgotten how good they were. Thanks for another delicious recipe! 😊
