    Most guitars with locking posts, most Ibanez on the Edge, Lo-Pro Edge and Edge Zero all come with locking posts, all are unlocked in case the bridge needs to be adjusted and people don't realize they will lock. That's why the post weren't locked on the DK24... FANTASTIC review, thinking about buying one and your detail added a great deal of information I haven't seen anywhere else! Thank you!

    Thanks for the review Joe. You had mentioned tuning stability while showing a closeup of your tuning posts. I believe you are defeating the purpose of a locking tuner by doing the under and around string lock trick that is done with non-locking tuners. The idea of stringing this tuner is less string around the post is better. Before stringing a tuner, try to align the hole through the post so if you look through the hole from past the headstock, you can see the bridge. The string should go straight through from the nut to the post hole, pull the string so there is no slack and tighten the lock. This way you will have minimal string around the post. Less string around the post equals less recoil of the string when you drop them with the bar...thus better tuning stability.

    I went down to check out this DK24 Ash tonight just because I read it was made in the WMIC shop in Korea. All my guitars are American or Japanese (ESP). I really like the American DK24's but I just didn't think they were worth the money. I've HATED every MIM version I've played.... bad frets, cheap feeling switches, and just blah fit and finish. I was SHOCKED at how great the red ash Korean made DK24 was - if I were blindfolded, I would absolutely think I was playing a high-end American super strat. I bought it on the spot - this is the DK24 to own if you don't want to blow $4k.

    I had the DK24 for about a month, but it had a few tuning issues and a couple frets were a little high, but the neck profile is really nice to play. The Dk24 is now sold and i now have the GG Charvel and it is a complete beast! Perfect in every way. Love it :)

    Sandblasted is the process on the Body. Its made on purpose to make the wood veins deeper. Since they are softer the Sandblasting "eats" more of it.

    I know I'm a year late on commenting....but I just got my GG Charvel about 2 months ago and prior to that I owned a DK24 for about 2 years. I agree with just about everything you say here. I still think the DK24 is a great guitar, but when I play the GG there is a remarkable difference. The GG just feels so much better, but not like it makes me play any better. For me, the neck on the GG is perfect. The DK has a great neck, but the added thickness on the GG just edges it out. I do think the DK24 has better tuning stability. I can get pretty stupid with the whammy bar on the DK24 and it holds tune....the GG seems to have issues with the low E and G strings with the aforementioned stupid treatment. But the GG does resonate so much better and I think the trem contributes greatly. It does have that massive brass block.
    Well, I'm just rambling....so...thanks for the great vid!

    • @jmkmusicpedals
      @jmkmusicpedals  2 роки тому

      I use graphite on the nut of the GG. Being a bone nut, I find it needs something like that or nut sauce when I change strings to give me good tuning performance.

    Great video man. But how about the weight? How heavy is the dk24 over GG signature model?

    • @jmkmusicpedals
      @jmkmusicpedals  3 роки тому

      Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to mention that. I don't have an accurate scale, but I have plenty of guitars and some of them listed their weight by the seller at the time. The GG is approximately the weight of my PRS Silver Sky, which was listed at 7lbs 1oz. Let's say it's within a margin of 5 oz. of that. I've seen other GG's list around there as well, at or just below 7lbs. Let's also not assume that this listing for my Silver Sky was accurate. I'll just say that both those guitars are light enough for my personal preference, I don't think about their weight at all. The DK24 is noticeably heavier, but still not what I'd call heavy either. Somewhere between 1/2 - 3/4 lbs over the others, maybe up to 1 lbs. I apologize for not being more accurate ... I think the take away is that you can expect the DK24 to be a little above the GG, but it is by no means a 9 pounder or something like that.

      @@rockyfolksy8639 Take it for what it's worth. I can only compare the two I have and every build is different. Neither the GG, Red Ash or Silver Sky are the lightest guitars that I own, or have ever owned. I'd say the DK24 is around the average for me and the GG and SS are slightly below average in terms of weight.
