I tried the fender ultra, elite, professional, etc. I wanted to love them and none were an instant hit for me. I picked up a DK24 and the feel of the neck blew me away. The tone and playability were mind blowing. Checked the price, sold. Go play one if you haven’t
The Ash seems to have a little more warmer and clearer midrange presence. In the middle position, no. 3 of 5, it actually uses the closest to the bridge single coil and the neck single coil, so it's more like a Telecaster middle rhythm tone, per the wiring diagram on the Charvel site. The middle pup is never directly engaged by itself, it's always in combination with another pup in the 2-4 positions. I think they somewhat cheap out on the finishes, but everything else on the guitar is amazing. I have the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH with the Gotoh whammy and it's been excellent out on gigs. That series/parallel mini-switch gives you ten killer tones from crispy Fender to warmer Gibson HB. I usually just use two tones out on the gigs, but they all sound good. I am thinking of buying this Red Ash SSH as a back-up to the HH. I suspect the Red Ash may have a little better build quality, being made in Korea, vs. Mexico, TBD.
Huge thumbs up for nailing that last lead (with gain) piece...there's an offbeaty quality to that groove I am sure would be especially difficult to nail being that it's already a demanding, medium-fast lead piece.
Im in love with that red one!!😍
Im looking forward to order one
Good shit mate... I would be more satisfied if you mixed in a cruch level of gain.... but anyways, as it is I prefer Alder for bridge pickup soloing, but clean Ash is just more lively.
Not much of a difference to my ears with good hifi headphones. I guess the wood has much less impact on the sound that the pickups, pickup height, where you pick, how you pick and so on ! A big thumb up for the experts who can really hear more or less mids or highs, a blind test would be funny !
At first I chuckled along with you on that...but then I did my own blind test with good quality headphones on.
Ash had a distinctly whiney upper register, whereas the Alder was smoother and creamier.
I'm talking about when playing lead with gain.
Btw..I'm no sound snob - I'm just some average viewer, and that's what I found. If I had have let my biases play out, I would have favoured the Korean made Ash - no question.
Shrug...do with that what you wish..
@@lueymeteora1410 I've just ordered the Ash version. Overall I do feel similar differences (Aune T1SE (Mk3) + Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro) but the more I listen, the more I feel like it's more picking attack, power than actual wood type sound difference. Especially when I pick short ~5 seconds parts and switch between them all the time. I think those differences are so minor that you can make them sound the same or the opposite just by turning volume and tone and how you pick strings. I like DK24 in general, I prefer the Ash looks and that subjectively creamier, smoother sound which is probably just a matter of what I've mentioned.
Pretty sure the alder has a no load tone pot whereas the red ash doesn’t, this would definitely make a difference in tone
The ash is more open and has an airey sound. Ash for me thanks for the demo.
I just purchased the red ash body one and im 100% charvel 🤘🤘
Have you experienced any tuning stability issues?
Omg Alder allday, so much more pleasant, musical and easy on the ears!
Ash sounds scooped-mid & more dry, Alder has more mids.
혹시 일렉치신 분 최종호 님 맞으신가요? 중간에 에잇솔로가 똑같아서요 궁금합니다
Now, if they only made left handed ones ......
Ash had more warmth to the tone had a bit more kick too... I dunno but ash noticably sounded sweeter to my ears
Nice
and they say tone wood does not exist ...
Thank you so much for this video, just what I needed! Honestly, prefer the alder model's tone for the most part.
Yep
I prefer ash for the single coil tones, alder on the bridge. I'm surprised they don't offer their SSS DK22 in ash (I thought they did and was right now looking for it), as the first strats were ash and it's something we associate with.
Always wonder if the audio loses when uploading to a UA-cam vid. Other than that the differences are so minimal that it wouldn't have much of an impact. Maybe because my ears are getting Alder.
The audio quality does worsen when uploading to UA-cam.
As long as you haven't become Ash yet, hehe.
It's around 126kbps AAC. As long as a source video has good audio quality, that's enough to be considered good quality. Especially that most people don't have DACs or/and good headphones to feel the difference. Most use built-in audio card which is poor in 99% of laptops or motherboards. Then people mostly have cheap headphones, like up to 50 USD and that's with a maybe. It's just not worth it for YT to push it further for such outputs. I agree that wood of bodies and fretboards in guitars get you very very subtle difference in sound and even listening live, it takes a very good ear to accurately feel the difference like in a blind test, being able to always tell which one is which. People mostly feel that there is a small difference but they can't tell which one is which.
Tabs for the clean melody please lol?
Ash for clean(ish) and alder for distorted tones
I feel the same way. The high tones are a tiny bit more attacking and a bit more higher frequency while ash feels more classy and balanced which I prefer better but it's pure subjective preference. But overall it's such a subtle difference that it can as well be a difference in the player's picking attack and angle.
Tabs plz!n you are a great player
Nice video! Nice rock jam, I definitly would love to have the tabs
마지막 곡명 뭐에요???
아이유 에잇코드에 멜로디랑 오부리때린듯요
Ash sounds louder and brighter all round, alder is more balanced.
By the way is it hard ash or swamp ash?
I'm thinking the Maple fretboard versus the rosewood fretboard might be more the tone difference ,either way the ash sounded better on clean , the alder sounded better on high gain... For my ear
Both have maple fretboards
@@kostas79 I realize that and I did not specify what I meant by the Fretboard comparison, usually fretboard has more of a tone difference than the body wood
@@scottydog62 it's ok to admit you thought the red ash had a rosewood fingerboard.
You won't be banished to space in a glass pane parrelagram to languish for eternity, floating through space - for failing to identify the correct wood type by sight & ear on a utube comments' !
It does look like it could be rosewood on this example of the red ask DK.
Because these models put the truss rods in on top of the neck, rather than thru the back, with a skunk stripe like on most Fenders, they have to lau down a maple fretboard on top...much like a rosewood neck is lain.
And when you introduce the baking process to different pieces of maple, sometimes different pieces, in different batches , can come out looking darker than others.
Most don't have this sharp of a contrast, however, and so I can totally see how this one could look like a rosewood neck, yo the uninitiated.
There's no shame in that!
@@lueyteledeluxe7457 before you went on your, as you thought , an "intelligent keyboard diatribe" look at my comment I was not referring to these 2 guitars, I was saying in general fretboards have more difference in tone than the particular wood body, yes different wood bodies do make a difference in tone like I said in my initial comment I could tell the difference between these two guitars wood bodies, but I was referring to the "fretboard" itself can make a bigger tone difference between Maple and Rosewood.
Not saying that these two guitars had different fretboard materials, I'm sure you're not a real condescending asshole in person but on the keyboard you sure like to jump to conclusions
@@lueyteledeluxe7457 and yes I know the difference between roasted maple and regular maple I have two roasted Maple guitars one Charvel one Sire, I have a Fender with basically a bleached maple neck, not roasted, unvarnished, unstained, satin sanded feel, I have ebony fretboard guitars rosewood fretboard guitars, There are tons of variables to affect tone ,strings , body, Fretboards, Pickups, amplifiers ,pedals. And more importantly the two hands and fingers of those two hands of the person playing affects tone more than anything, what type of pick how you hold the pick how much of the pick protrudes from your fingers so many variables.
But this all started I was making a point that the fretboard material can make more of a difference in tone, but you had to jump to conclusions thinking I was talking about "these" 2 particular guitars.
I would have really liked to hear his - or anyone's - opinion on the Mexican vs Korean made aspect at play here.
I have heard tell that Korean made is the "new Japanese made"... 🤷♂️
But that, you can only tell by playing , not just listening..
Well korean made is not as good as mexico lol its like indo tier level
@@masamune9082wrong
Why they not fit Floyd Rose? 😭
Because a lot of people prefer the Gotoh 510, and Charvel already make a lot of similar guitars with Floyd Rose.
I prefer gotoh all day.
It is like f rose is old tech and gotoh the thing today
The specs on these guitars are great, but they're put together so poorly at the factories.
Really?
@@uanra228 I've seen pretty consistent flaws in the fretwork and electronics with them. You can always get that stuff fixed and have a pretty solid guitar after the fact, but it's a bummer that a lot of them need so much extra work out of the box to get them playable.
@@flips220 that's pretty common with a lot of manufactures. it's always a good rule to thumb to get a set up after purchase, or set it up yourself. unless you're getting a 3k custom from kiesel or something like that, as im sure everything would be fine.
Even if I had Custom shop-Master built-whatever I’d still be doing adjustments to it when I got it home. That’s normal
@@aaronenix6418 To be fair I would say Kiesels also have flaws, and for the most part when you get those they are worse than whatever can come from an overseas production model from any brand
