Charvel Guthrie Govan Signature HSH Caramelized Ash Electric Guitar

- As a preeminent modern virtuoso, U.K. guitar master Guthrie Govan dazzles all who hear his playing. Charvel spent two years of meticulous development with Govan to first introduce his Guthrie Govan signature model in 2014, and it’s the ultimate ultra-pro guitar. Loaded with special features and high-performance appointments, it's truly the ideal expression of Govan's artistry rendered in distinctive Charvel form.
This 25.5" scale guitar offers a caramelized ash San Dimas body with a thin satin lacquer finish and a specially contoured heel (sans neck plate) for easy access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard. The bolt-on neck is two-piece flame maple with a "caramelized" heat and drying treatment that makes it sound and feel much older, with graphite reinforcement, hand-rubbed urethane gel on the back of the neck and a convenient truss rod adjustment wheel at the body end. Most unusually for a San Dimas model, the compound-radius (12"-16") flame maple fingerboard spans two octaves, with the same caramelized treatment as the neck, 24 jumbo stainless steel frets and special maple dot inlays with ebony borders, as well as Luminlay side-dots that emit light for the darkest of stages.
Other premium features include three specially wound Charvel custom MF pickups arranged in a versatile HSH configuration with five-way switching for the expansive tonal openness and dynamic sensitivity that Govan demands, a 2-way mini toggle switch to engage single coil simulation in bridge and neck humbucker positions, two Luminlay numbered dome control knobs (master volume, master tone), U.S.-made recessed Charvel locking tremolo bridge with Tremol-No unit, oversized brass block, bone nut and chrome hardware.

Actually the position 3(middle) engages the outside coils of the humbuckers, not the middle pickup...
Beautiful guitar ! Guthrie has taste, great gentleman education and he's a virtuoso at the guitar. Everything from him shines with positive energy.
I played this guitar it has the best neck out of everything I played so far and the craftsmanship is way better than any other signature guitars out there. It's the only mass production model so far that I can justify this kind of price.
This dude can play! Like the guitar.
Thanks, friend!
Player is just amazing! Keep it up bro, you are great guitarist!
Thank you man, I appreciate the kind words!
Im glad you used the Friedman. Sounds great. I really like these guitars too
YO SICK PHRASING AND PLAYING!!!
I enjoyed your video :) Keep it up!
dammit. this is how you demo a guitar
Sounds unbelievable great...great demo, so expensive tho :(
Keep it up!
Hi, great playing and video, thanks. Great guitar. I have a question, how the string change is made, do you need clamp/lock the string on the bridge end, where you need to cut the string? It seems so, despite the locking tuners on the headstock.
Great playing man, truly. Guthrie would give you a big thumbs up I'm sure
haha thanks man, that is very kind of you
Great demo and playing Gavin
Thanks for the kind words!
-Gavin
You're welcome, I've just bought a used 2016 birds eye maple top version...waiting for delivery as we speak. Can't wait.
Nice man, sounds like a great guitar. This was up there in favorite guitars I've demoed to date.
The dude playing also needs a sig guitar. Amazing player.
Gavin Horning Credit where it's due bro!
First question is, how does it compare to the older model and why exactly did it go down in price. The reason might or might not be the same for both questions, which is why I phrased it like so.
Thank you in advance!
fyi the middle position is the front and back coils together like a tele
Good Work.....Holdsworthesque
Trying to figure out now if I'm better off getting this down the line or getting an Ibanez AZ Prestige. Both have 9 tones available, both are gorgeous in their own way, both are some of the highest quality instruments available and offer so much. The thing though, is Guthrie is one of my favorite players ever. It'd probably be more satisfying to have this over a, great, but not as special, run of the mill Prestige.
Jorn, both the Ibanez AZ prestige and this Govan signature are really excellent instruments. The caramelized body and neck make this guitar very lightweight as well as the neck plays very fast. The AZ Prestige is a great instrument that can capture strat-like tones and humbucker punch. I recommend both honestly. Contact us at N Stuff Music, we can help you decide on the right one, we also have free shipping and will gladly make a deal with you.
Supa amazing player....how’s the neck profile of this guitar? Is it similar a to dk24 2 pt?
The fretwork on mine was rough in places and the nut slots weren,t equally spaced
i like this guitar and it's features, the switch kinda reminds me of the switch on the fender modern player telecaster, it coil splits the humbucker which is nifty for those dave gilmour strat chord sounds, i have a guitar with glow in the dark fret inlays which is a Schecter Blackjack C1 FR S, i got it last christmas and it's my no.1 favorite guitar
at college one of my teachers who owns a music shop in the same town requested me to learn Fives by Guthrie Govan and there's no way in a monday sundays i'll be able to pull it off 100% at the moment cos it's just so complex
but great overview sir
I'm gonna make me a Warmoth version of this guitar. $3,500 is really steep for a what is basically a super strat.
Beautiful look and tone though.
haha I thought you were a guthrie fan! Love your playing, you should upload guthrie stuff on a personal YT channel.
The 2-way mini toggle switch engages a single coil simulation in bridge and neck humbucker position only. The toggle switch doesn't affect the tones of any of the other 3 positions. There is no true single coil "mode", only single coil simulation.
ProfessorNguyen It turns off one of the two coils of a humbucker
No, it´s a simulation, no coil tap, and the position 3 engages the outside humbuckers coils... not the middle pickup haha
So the mini toggle is not a spliter but simply reduces power/outboot. Is that the case?
It´s a single coil simulation, but yeah reduces the output, no coil tap no coil split...
How does this guitar sound on high gain! For some metal or maybe even melodic death metal!!!
Which would be your preference for blues to metal, either this or a Suhr Modern?
Man, those are two beast guitars you're talking. Personally I'd say you can't go wrong with either. It will have to come down to which particular guitars feels better to you. Id say the Guthrie has a little more nuance while the Suhr Modern has a little more punch.
-Gavin
Those guitars are good for crunch to hi gain but clean tones - I don't like them so much :( to much "steely" treble
Every bass note you fret is buzzing. Maybe slightly higher action.
I know I know it's a total no no and borderlines being taboo with a lot of people but you will reduce the buzzing and increase the sustain. Not a bad trade off.
gtrmusic69...you are quite right. I'm very surprised that wasn't noticed beforehand and adjusted before trying to review/promote a £3000 guitar.
What a great guitar player! I haven't seen Mark Lucas though.
Just as good but has a very typical jazzy style. Also I think all the great players sound like themselves even through different gear
Great playing, great guitar! But is the amp so loud that you're wearing earplugs?
HaHa! It's usually not cranked up to the point where hearing protection is necessary, but it's better to be safe than sorry with our hearing. I shoot all the videos here, and I wear gun muffs when we are filming these!!
+N Stuff Music I hear you (pun intended): I wear gun muffs when using a vacuum cleaner.
@@NStuffMusic Great example to set...well done !!... good hearing is taken for granted by so many unfortunately.
4K$....okay....next guitar please....
What are the red pickup mounts?
Red pickup mounts that Guthrie wanted!
You can find the backing track for the song on UA-cam mam pls
Excuse my ignorance but what’s the first theme play on this video??
alex Aragorn Wonderful Slippery Things.
Or did you just say it that no double lock, no clamping of the strings?
No double lock so clamping would not be necessary. Thanks for checking out our page, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
-Gavin
is...is he wearing ear plugs?
That is the brownest thing I've seen. ;o)
It wasn't the middle by itself I think
Ok Mojo, one last time, I have a feeling that you `ve based your comments on my remark about no pickup rings when in fact I had originally remarked about what I heard on this demo. The pickup ring thing was just a throw in once I found out the price of the guitar....I could n`t care any less if it`s a signature model or not, My comments were about what I heard in this demo for this guitar regardless of the signature concept, this guitar on it`s own not whether it was made to sell cheaper models....if I don`t like a $3000 model why would I want a cheap version. Your opinion that it`s a signature model and any conflicting opinion is irrelevant doesn`t make sense to me.I could have been a potential customer for this guitar if I liked it,I didn`t and said so....it `s my opinion,my pocketbook,my ears...relevant to me.
couldn’t you at least pronounce the man’s name correctly tho?
Jazz...jazz...guitar for few...
It's pronounced "Guv-un" not "Gov-un". Is it really so hard to get British names right?
Yes, and besides who cares.
Shoman Blues I am very sorry Shuman Bloes.
Not exactly a common British name though is it? I'm British and I could probably quite easily mispronounce it.
Govan is not a British name.
"Caramelized Neck feels like a roasted maple neck"??
Seriously??
Maybe because it is the Same Thing just a Different nomenclature for legal reasons??
Come on now!!
mcafee1971 yeah I got kind of confused when he said that cuz they are literally the same thing glad I'm not the only one who noticed
haha yeah I noticed it too. did no one at Nstuff notice though?!
фигня...не стоит она 5 000 долларов !!!!
Why do they feel they have to play a Guthrie song just because your showing his guitar? I guess if you buy the guitar you'll turn into Guthrie
Caramelized,roasted...what`s for dinner? clean tones very thin and nasally....sorry,some of the worse overdrive sounds I`ve heard......
OMG, $3000 and they don`t even give you pickup rings!
pickups perform best when directly mounted to the guitar as oppose to a piece of plastic.
Nice thought, but,do you really think you could hear a difference with everything else involved being exactly the same?
Well..It's a signature model, so the artist(Guthrie) prefers it that way. What you think of it is irrelevant.
why do a demo then? just blindly lay your money down because some somebody has their name on it? what I think is relevant to me and I think I wouldn`t purchase this guitar from what I heard.....
The intro is bad
