  • As a preeminent modern virtuoso, U.K. guitar master Guthrie Govan dazzles all who hear his playing. Charvel spent two years of meticulous development with Govan to first introduce his Guthrie Govan signature model in 2014, and it’s the ultimate ultra-pro guitar. Loaded with special features and high-performance appointments, it's truly the ideal expression of Govan's artistry rendered in distinctive Charvel form.
    This 25.5" scale guitar offers a caramelized ash San Dimas body with a thin satin lacquer finish and a specially contoured heel (sans neck plate) for easy access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard. The bolt-on neck is two-piece flame maple with a "caramelized" heat and drying treatment that makes it sound and feel much older, with graphite reinforcement, hand-rubbed urethane gel on the back of the neck and a convenient truss rod adjustment wheel at the body end. Most unusually for a San Dimas model, the compound-radius (12"-16") flame maple fingerboard spans two octaves, with the same caramelized treatment as the neck, 24 jumbo stainless steel frets and special maple dot inlays with ebony borders, as well as Luminlay side-dots that emit light for the darkest of stages.
    Other premium features include three specially wound Charvel custom MF pickups arranged in a versatile HSH configuration with five-way switching for the expansive tonal openness and dynamic sensitivity that Govan demands, a 2-way mini toggle switch to engage single coil simulation in bridge and neck humbucker positions, two Luminlay numbered dome control knobs (master volume, master tone), U.S.-made recessed Charvel locking tremolo bridge with Tremol-No unit, oversized brass block, bone nut and chrome hardware.

    Actually the position 3(middle) engages the outside coils of the humbuckers, not the middle pickup...

    I played this guitar it has the best neck out of everything I played so far and the craftsmanship is way better than any other signature guitars out there. It's the only mass production model so far that I can justify this kind of price.

    Hi, great playing and video, thanks. Great guitar. I have a question, how the string change is made, do you need clamp/lock the string on the bridge end, where you need to cut the string? It seems so, despite the locking tuners on the headstock.

    First question is, how does it compare to the older model and why exactly did it go down in price. The reason might or might not be the same for both questions, which is why I phrased it like so.
    Thank you in advance!

    Trying to figure out now if I'm better off getting this down the line or getting an Ibanez AZ Prestige. Both have 9 tones available, both are gorgeous in their own way, both are some of the highest quality instruments available and offer so much. The thing though, is Guthrie is one of my favorite players ever. It'd probably be more satisfying to have this over a, great, but not as special, run of the mill Prestige.

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  6 років тому +2

      Jorn, both the Ibanez AZ prestige and this Govan signature are really excellent instruments. The caramelized body and neck make this guitar very lightweight as well as the neck plays very fast. The AZ Prestige is a great instrument that can capture strat-like tones and humbucker punch. I recommend both honestly. Contact us at N Stuff Music, we can help you decide on the right one, we also have free shipping and will gladly make a deal with you.

    i like this guitar and it's features, the switch kinda reminds me of the switch on the fender modern player telecaster, it coil splits the humbucker which is nifty for those dave gilmour strat chord sounds, i have a guitar with glow in the dark fret inlays which is a Schecter Blackjack C1 FR S, i got it last christmas and it's my no.1 favorite guitar
    at college one of my teachers who owns a music shop in the same town requested me to learn Fives by Guthrie Govan and there's no way in a monday sundays i'll be able to pull it off 100% at the moment cos it's just so complex
    but great overview sir

  • @kereamohau

    I'm gonna make me a Warmoth version of this guitar. $3,500 is really steep for a what is basically a super strat.

    The 2-way mini toggle switch engages a single coil simulation in bridge and neck humbucker position only. The toggle switch doesn't affect the tones of any of the other 3 positions. There is no true single coil "mode", only single coil simulation.

    • @ritsmond
      @ritsmond 7 років тому +4

      ProfessorNguyen It turns off one of the two coils of a humbucker

    • @efrainmeza9872
      @efrainmeza9872 6 років тому +1

      No, it´s a simulation, no coil tap, and the position 3 engages the outside humbuckers coils... not the middle pickup haha

  • @stevehogan8829
    @stevehogan8829 6 років тому +2

    So the mini toggle is not a spliter but simply reduces power/outboot. Is that the case?

    • @efrainmeza9872
      @efrainmeza9872 6 років тому +1

      It´s a single coil simulation, but yeah reduces the output, no coil tap no coil split...

    Which would be your preference for blues to metal,either this or a Suhr Modern?

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  6 років тому +3

      Man, those are two beast guitars you're talking. Personally I'd say you can't go wrong with either. It will have to come down to which particular guitars feels better to you. Id say the Guthrie has a little more nuance while the Suhr Modern has a little more punch.

      Those guitars are good for crunch to hi gain but clean tones - I don't like them so much :( to much "steely" treble

  • @gtrmusic69

    Every bass note you fret is buzzing. Maybe slightly higher action.
    I know I know it's a total no no and borderlines being taboo with a lot of people but you will reduce the buzzing and increase the sustain. Not a bad trade off.

    Ok Mojo,one last time, I have a feeling that you `ve based your comments on my remark about no pickup rings when in fact I had originally remarked about what I heard on this demo.The pickup ring thing was just a throw in once I found out the price of the guitar....I could n`t care any less if it`s a signature model or not, My comments were about what I heard in this demo for this guitar regardless of the signature concept, this guitar on it`s own not whether it was made to sell cheaper models....if I don`t like a $3000 model why would I want a cheap version. Your opinion that it`s a signature model and any conflicting opinion is irrelevant doesn`t make sense to me.I could have been a potential customer for this guitar if I liked it,I didn`t and said so....it `s my opinion,my pocketbook,my ears...relevant to me.
