Great to finally hear Richard doing an actual review (in addition to the masterclass playing demo!). Richard's excellent presentation and informed, objective comments and information add so much more value and quality to the complete vid. Top class all the way. Thanks Richard.
Have a Charvel GG 1 month old. Best instrument I ever owned between some Teles, Strats and Les Pauls. It’s a pure new level of experience and playing. I just don’t need to fight the guitar anymore when I play it since it begs to be plugged in. Tele was a very shall I say, tempered bastard that I couldn’t own it myself. She didn’t let me win her on our 15 year marriage so I sold her 😃 and raised my white flag.
In talking with a tech support guy at Fender, he said there is an access window in the center rear plate. So this should make it easy to change strings.
I can attest to the comfort and playability, tuning stability of this one, got it 3 months ago. The Seymour Duncan pickups worked well, but for the first time in years I modded a guitar and installed bare knuckles in the bridge and middle, as well as a radioshop paf plus in the neck. Put some gold dome knobs on from stew mac for like 15 dollars. It’s a great guitar stock, although I would not play it driven through an ac15. Clean through my Princeton fsr it’s good, but channels either 1 or 3 on the Mesa tc50 combo gets you into a new level and the guitar shines. It’s what I like to think of as a poor mans guthrie govan signature, but that’s just for laughs it’s a great little guitar in its own right.
Really great to see a proper product demo rather than just noodling on a guitar. This looks like a great ‘Swiss army knife’ guitar that you could use for pretty much any type of session or gig. It’s simple but has lots of practical and useful features- very tempted
I tried one of these in a store today. What cannot come across in a review is how playable this guitar is. So effortless it almost feels like cheating. I also tried the Charvel Guthrie Govan. Of course it's not as good, but in terms of playability it was really, really, REALLY close ans less than one third of the price. I think I might replace my Ibanez with it
I'm trying to get hold of this guitar, but it seems no one has it in stock! I live outside the US, and I just can't find a place to buy the guitar. Do you have any idea why that may be?
When you’re talking about the tone control, is it supposed to click into place on 10? In the video it seemed as if 9 was the max then it would click into place for cutting the tone switch out on 10
Does any know whether the baked maple fingerboard needs to be refinished if it is de-fretted/re-radiused prior to installing stainless steel or Jescar frets? I notice that the Charvel website says "hand-rubbed satin urethane" so I don't know if that means it would need re-finishing to stop it from going old-school maple mouldy. Thanks.
I bought a charvel pro mod DK 24 red ash. And it seems like the pots aren't actually a no load tone control with the click , and also the volume doesn't seem like frictionless, pretty frictional tbh. I don't know if it's because it's made in korea ? Either way I'm sending it back to Thomann because it's like it was built with the wrong parts
Managed to get the exact one on January 4th. The set up from the factory was OK. The nut was slightly higher than I liked, but the fret levelling was bang on and I always take guitars to a luthier and he put a tusq XL nut in, it not has 1mm action at the 12th with NO buzzing. I own a few guitars and the one that's similar is my Ibanez AZ2402 Prestige. I hate to say this as the Charvel was half the price.... But the Charvel is better. More sonic ground, the neck is more comfortable IMO! I can't recemmend them enough, my guitar tech couldn't get over the amount of guitar you get for the price and wanted to buy it! If you can get one... GET ONE!
Tried one of these - amazing neck, sustain is wicked, looks fantastic, but... just couldn't get the sounds I wanted. Not sure why, so returned it. But if these are the sounds you like, then it's an outstanding guitar.
Yeah, man I hear you, it got most of what I want in a guitar. But the pickups are fizzy. I don’t like that sound. Might get one of these and instantly switch pickup. I don’t like guitars that sound ”whiny”. But I think the wood is correct.
your guitar sound s so awesome that I actually bought a Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSH 2PT CM Mystic blue today. Could you share your guitar action height?and pikcups height?
Sonically speaking, what is the main difference, or say how different is this one compared to the regular alder body dk24 hsh? I can't seem to find a lot of information on that on the internet
Both are great for mid range, the Mahogany is great for slightly lower end darker thicker tones while the Alder is great for more cutting trebly sharper tone. But to be honest, they both have the exact same pickups, they sound almost identical. The differences I'm talking about are so small that a lot of people probably wouldn't notice. You'll get the sound you want out of either, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to the sonic differences
I have a LP Studio with nickel frets and I have been playing it for 10 years without issues. At some point it may need a refretting but the cost would be minimal compared to the years I have been using it.
Which ever feels more comfortable for you to play. They’re both very similar in their versatility, but feel very different. The neck on the Ibanez is much thicker
Very good actually. Often, I find new guitars out of the box haven’t had their strings stretched, have traveled across the world and had the tuners all put in a straight line to be photographed (photography tuning 😆) In spite of all that, this was really easy to work with, we just didn’t want to break the flow of the demo by cutting that quick tuning adjustment out!
I'm sure yer playing is what separates your tones from mine but..... I like the guitar but don't love the tone. You are getting a brighter tone than I'm hearing. The string definition to me isn't always there on mine. Its a little muddy at time. My biggest complaint is the fret work. Mine is TERRIBLE. I'm surprised I don't cut myself sliding up and down the neck. Don't want to pay too correct it and don't' want to take the time to do it myself. Shouldn't have to for what I paid. Others like Schecter and others do GREAT fret work for even less money but not here. I bought it online so I didn't have a chance to try it first. The rest of the build is fine but just not the fret work. I kept it but to be honest for what I paid I could do better. Too bad something thats looks so good doesn't play as well.
The main difference will be pickups and bridge. The GG sig has custom pickups and a locking bridge. I have this one and it's great, just remember that it's not a Floyd Rose trem.
Absolutely love Richard’s playing every time. Quite the master tonesman.
Great to finally hear Richard doing an actual review (in addition to the masterclass playing demo!). Richard's excellent presentation and informed, objective comments and information add so much more value and quality to the complete vid. Top class all the way. Thanks Richard.
After following Richard in many guitar magazines over the years all I can say this man is a beast on guitar. Scary good.

By far the best review of this model. You can actually get a good idea of the tone difference between the pickup selections.
In talking with a tech support guy at Fender, he said there is an access window in the center rear plate. So this should make it easy to change strings.
best guitar demo ever i’ve seen, thank you

Well done!! I hate that super shred humbuckers are one of the worst Seymour Duncan, so brittle
@@bluematrix5001 they are trash
Ordering one of these bad boys later this week! Can’t wait to see what this thing can do!
Did you get it? Love mine
How do you love it??
Brilliant demo.
nice review Richard and with plenty of info things are looking up keep up the good work mate
Love that intro.

Just bought one after seeing this review/demo. thanks!
Getting Nuno vibes from that awesome track
Brilliant as always Richard ! I only regret the slimness of the neck on this one. Can't play thin necks...
Sick playing
Don't have to call it an "S-Type" when Fender is the parent company. It is a superstrat - pure and simple. Cracking demo.
Agreed! WHAT co would self censor? Oh wait...
This is the fourth time I've watched this video. I really like that guitar.
That’s probably the Charvel I’m gonna buy
This guy does a nice job!
My kind of review, thanks.

Hey man that is one HOT lick!!! Where do I go to learn how to play that !
Just slow the playback down and watch his hands,, best thing about UA-cam as a guitar player
The Japanese version of this with a walnut top is top notch. Nice review.
What is it called? is it more expensive?
Exspensive. MJ Dinky
Woohoo, 8:47 that was the best quick tuning on the internet and it finally works!!! Class. :)))
Thanks for a very interesting review.
I like the contours but they are to sharp and harsh. The only thing I like about vintage Fenders are the smooth rounded curves.
If it had nickel or chrome hardware, Id buy one. I'm not a fan of gold hardware
very beautiful is that heavy

does the wood of body & neck have any treatment at all?
I've heard of Charvel necks that have none and wear off/look nasty af in a matter of days
very versatile ❤
what speaker is in your vox ac15 amp? Cheers
Excellent review thank you. Concise and informative with lovely playing. Apart from tuning, what was the set-up like out of the box? Thank you.

Why do they ruin these new awesome guitars with those these high treble annoying pickups...
Never felt a better playing guitar... But can't get the sound right either
very good thank you greetings Maria

sick jam.
9-42 strings?
I think so.
Can you do a dk22 review no good ones out there
No stainless steel frets :(

Ow man, I wish they had this model for left-handed players 😭😭😭
Oh wow man.😃
I have one,came Saturday.The quality’s off the chart
sounds great is it heavy?
Mine is light as a feather
@@flyntmarco thank you so much

This or ibanez Az2204 ?

this guitar is on my wish list, just need to figure how to sneak it past the wife...
He sounds like Blues Saraceno
is this any good for metal ?
How is tremolo tuning stability?

I'm torn between selling my kidney or ****ing a dk to buy this guitar.
@@JohnLloydDavis I love the Braun custom pickups in the GG, but not sure if it's worth the extra expense, as I tend to block my trems anyway...
Not exactly the type of guitar I would pick up for Blues in C minor...
You could, it’s very versatile
Rockin' Dick! \m/
setup sucks strings are tooooo looooooow
