- This is not a Guthrie Govan signature guitar but you’d be forgiven for thinking it was as it does share plenty of things in common with the official Guthrie Govan Charvel! Pete & Joss take a look at the brand new Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSH, with some brand new rather striking colours and specs to really shout about, Charvel have really raised the bar and come out with a super tasty addition to the range.

Arthur Almeida I take it you never heard of the “Rasmus range\line” that Suhr we’re putting out some years back?
They were amazing guitars for around £900. They stopped making them as they were too good for the price and becoming very popular and sales were taking a hit from their Suhr branded, high end models. Putting yourself out of business is never good. 😂

Nice groove in the opening jam.
I got the Orange one and stripped the alder body of its paint and grain filler, applied a walnut stain and sealer and it matches the roast maple neck color for color. Next I got some deep lustrous Brazilian rosewood pickup covers and knobs. All my friends asked me if it was a Govan signature model and how I afforded it lmao. It looks beautiful and the neck is absolutely perfect in feel and looks, so I knew I had to use this model for the base of my project.
@Jason Kim is your ibanez one of the mid 90s ones with the dark green sparkle and maple fretboard with the "custom made" logo on the 21st fret? If so I had one of those at one point :P

I absolutely love Charles my favorite rock guitar because it has a fender snap to them yet still have that crazy good heavy tone there beautiful guitars
I've never really wanted a charvel, until now. The specs are almost perfect, I just hope they do another color other than that popsicle orange.

I think the Orange Drab with whitish pickups and caramelized neck looks best of the bunch. Nice specs too.
I'm absolutely in love with the orange guitar! my question about Satin guitars...will overused areas turn to gloss with time due to wear?
They will shine up just a bit but I wouldn't call them gloss. I have orange one for about 4 months now and no gloss yet.

Hmmm, no testing of the tremolo with the bar - seems pretty important in this style of guitar.
Sold my American strat with Texas pups for a pink dk24. Never looked back. That dk24 is just an absolute monster.
If I was able to meet any guitarist from UA-cam, i think it would be Pete. He is a great player and seems like just a great person to boot. If he ever does like Rob and Rabea did and visit some guitar centers in the states, If he came anywhere in tx, I would definately be there. That would be more than worth the drive. :)

I'd say they lost popularity with the advent of grunge in the early 90's, they never went away just they had a golden age in the 80's with EVH etc. And now it feels like everyone want's to make a Suhr style super strat

That orange one looks great, but is already sold out at Andertons? Why Fender didnt put stainless frets on it ?
I wonder how these stack up to the MM Cutlass RS. I'm aware that the Cutlass is a substantial amount more money...but is it that much better?

Ibanez AZ was an answer to the Guthrie Govan Charvel (and Suhr Modern, previously played by GG) and this is essentially a lower-price Guthrie. My $.02.
Change of plans. I"ll have one in the green me thinks. Charvel for me falls to hand like no other guitar. I have had one since I saw Jake E Lee way back in the day. Yeah you can shred for days on them but no law says you have too. They are very versatile Glad I saw this!

That two-point one is very similar to the new Ibanez AZs, which themselves are very similar to certain Suhr models. Interesting that recessed vintage style trems are getting popular again.

I played the satin black at my local music shop and it was absolutely gorgeous!
tuning stability of trems? Why would Charvel keep the string trees vs staggered tuners?
The sharp angled string trees did cause tuning problems on mine so I started a thread on the Gear Page and a couple of guys said get your strings out from under the string trees and problem solved. Darned if they didn't end proving correct - no more tuning issues (wish the tuners were staggered but no problems so far)!

Charvel was always just an "existing" brand and I never tried one but they seem to be pretty damn good

This guitar is amazing. I much prefer Gibson scale but I couldn't pass this one up. It just feels good - finish somehow repels that gross sweaty beer grime, you can feel the vibration in the neck (not always true with bolt on necks), caramelized neck both feels good and looks great. Love the glow in the dark fret markers. Frets are super smooth.

Gamalier Oliveras Melendez Harris Papadakis these are enough cheaper than the AZ that you could buy a couple of hardcases and still come in under budget. I was really excited waiting for the official specs of the AZ to come out but when they were finally released I was really disappointed. These new charvels have exactly what I wish Ibanez had done. Better truss rod adjustment position, better pickups, better looking finishes (imo) and it comes in under a grand

I love the guitar but can't do a dinky body. I've bought two in the past and returned or sold them both within a month. Great bodies for smaller guys but I'm 6' and 250lbs (1.83m and 113kg) so I look like I'm playing a mini guitar. I wish Charvel offered the 24-fret necks on the soloist body as well. :-(
Hopefully, next year, there will be SS frets, a version without the middle pup and a t-style! Other than that, spot on!

SS frets and I wish it had the normal Strat style body instead of the slightly smaller Dinky, and maybe a couple more finish options. I'd buy one right now if it had those features.
Jesus Christ stainless steel frets it’s the most OVERRATED thing mentioned in comments these days. It is not a big deal whatsoever. Guitars have been made since the 50’s never having stainless frets. How many people you know are wearing out their frets? Unless they are professional or semi professional musician, playing onstage every night it rarely is happening. This whole craze started when the budget guitar companies started offering ss frets as if it’s a premium feature. Lol the tone with ss frets may be different however, but again not a deal breaker whatsoever.
