- This was a repair I did over 4 years ago which was on my old UA-cam channel but now it's back by popular demand. This is a great example of Good PDR and Bad Paintless Dent Removal (PDR). I was called to remove a medium sized dent on the bodyline of this front wing/fender panel, but I also had to tidy up someone else’s attempt at a dent on the same panel which was full of sharp high spots coming outwards and still had a small dent in the middle.

Thanks Francisco, yes the customer thought it was some kind of paint defect or corrosion and so did I at first until on closer inspection I saw it was just a bad PDR, so he was over the moon that it could be massively improved. All the best 👍

Excellent salvage Jake. IMHO taking all into account the PDR was better for the customer than taking it to the paint shop. Costlier, longer time and the paint match difference is never perfect as people think. Looking forward to rewatch all the videos again. Always great entertainment watching a master at work🤗

Another great video. One suggestion, I think you 'short change' yourself when you swirl the screen when you show the before and after. Besides making some viewers dizzy which they don't' like. It destroys the before and after effect. Let it fade directly into the fixed area, it will have a much more powerful impact as people see the damage disappear like magic.
Thanks, yes it is always difficult when filming these to get the angles right for the before and after as when I have finished the job I am often exhausted and can't remember the angle I filmed the before at! So the spinning transition hides that slightly, although I have thought about changing the transition a few times to something else and maybe now is the time to do it. there was still a little bit there on the old PDR but like you said, whoever done it probably used a tip that was too sharp and left a lot of micro high spots that wont ever go away, unless of course they take it down to metal and use a little bondo and repaint, but it least the car doesn't look like it has a bad case of acne lol great job!
Just WOW!!! My fav part of the repair was watching you fix the bad pdr portion. Now, I can see how a poorly repaired panel actually can be fixed a good bit with time and a proper approach. I 'am' one of those wanna-be pdr techs so seeing repairs like this gives me some aspiration. TY! Love watching your work!
Thank you so much for watching and for your comment 👍 Yes, this bad PDR was luckily saved and massively improved, although they cannot always be saved as a lot of the time the paint is damaged and the metal is stretched. This was on the limit. All the best 😉
@@1st_track_dents Oh I know firsthand, I have an older BMW practice hood in my garage. And I have most definitely riddled up a spot or two on it, one of which where the paint cracked. So I appreciated every single tip and warning in your repair! Keep'em coming!
@@XFBO Thanks, yes as a tech learning this skill you will mess the panel up quite a few times, but that's why you need to do hundreds of dents on test panels first before being let loose on a customer's vehicle 👍

Well done. I just left a repair shop that told me they can't do the PDR because the small (and soft) ding is on the body line, I think they also figure they will be billing the insurance, so they are interested in taking the more expensive path.
Thanks, unfortunately there is more profit in repair and paint than PDR so that is why they choose this route sometimes. Also it may be that they don't have anyone with the skills to perform PDR? fingers crossed the repair still comes out ok 🤞
@@1st_track_dents It's just a ding, no way am I going to let them redo the entire door and then have the paint/finish not matching the rest of the car. I can live with a small ding....I only wanted this done if they could do PDR. I will bring it to another shop where all they do is PDR.
Oh I misunderstood, I thought you had no choice as it was going through insurance. If you can choose where the repair is carried out then definitely go to a good PDR repair shop and have a cleaner repair done! 👍👍👍
@@1st_track_dents Well, the insurance was sending me to that place. But it is just a ding, so I am not going to have some shop have my car for 3+ days charging the insurance company $1,500+ to fix this nickel size door ding, which may possibly end up having the paint not match the rest of the car. I bought this car from online car retailer Carvana and when it was delivered it had this extra door ding that they did not disclose, and it appeared fresh, like it happened the day they delivered it...I was hoping they would pay to fix it, their warranty company sent me to that shop. But, forget it, I'll pay out of pocket for a decent PDR then have some shop overcharging the insurance/warranty company and turning it into a big production.

Hey John, thanks for watching, yes I completely agree. The customer actually was going to leave this old repair as he though it was corrosion. I just couldn't leave it on the panel and explained that It was worth attempting as I couldn't really make it worse! All the best, Jake

Thanks Martin! Yes I was surprised how well the previous bad repair came out. Made sure it was as flat as possible before I wet sanded it as I didn't want to burn through!

quick question for you. the links you have for your tools must have change and no long takes you directly to that specific tool(s)
I am of course new to PDR and have a couple of vehicle that I would would like to work on myself and would appreciate if you could recommend which Bendable Johnson(s) , tips , differnt Tapdown punch tools that you use (you only list the Aluminum one) . I live in the US.

Hey Jake. Great work, You've really got me interested in PDR. So much so I want to buy a few panels and tools and practice hard to hopefully go it alone. One question is work constant like jobs every day or does it just tick by week to week?
Thanks! good question. It varies really, there are certainly periods of up and down but if you get good at it and have a good reputation you should always be busy. It's not always great in the freezing winter but in the UK the winters are getting slightly milder so it is a bit more bearable. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck 👍👍👍
Another great repair and wow what a great Re-repair on the other previous attempt (by someone inexperienced). I was sure you were going to glue pull at first but I guess with good access and that large rubber tip it equaled out. Thanks much for taking us with you on this job.
Thanks, yes front wings/fender panels have great access and if you can get good leverage off the tyre it makes it even easier. Yes, the bad repair really cleaned up better than I had hoped! 👍

Wish you were near me. I have a Hellcat widebody with a dent on my front fender above the Hellcat emblem right on body line. Been to 4 PDR people but they can not do it. They say no way to get behind the dent.

Hi Mark, it's just a fishing umbrella I bought from my local fishing tackle shop, I checked the make and it is NGT (next Generation Tackle) I think it is about 60 inches in diameter. It's one of the best ones I have bought for durability.
