This is very valuable info. Thanks. Some two months ago, with the help of somatic work, I released my early childhood trauma. Such a good feeling and so good to know what was 'driving' me for more than four decades. However, I have the nervous system of a toddler, thus now I am learning how to regulate my nervous system. Learning how to feel anger is a very current affair for me.
Yes, it's super important. As we learn to embody our anger more and more that also helps NS regulation (the dysregulation IS the repressed anger...!). Great work - good luck!
I hear you - thanks for the honest comment. Note that this is a practice - we can grow in our awareness and capacities over time with patient practice. And even tiny changes in our capacity to feel can have big impacts. Even with medication etc. Good luck!
Thankyou so much... I'm just new to learning to express anger...and have just realised I have alot of repressed anger. My dreams lately have been vivid and producing anxiety. I believe in somatic relaese...Thankyou again for this video.. 🙏😎👍
Hey, if you mean how long do you do a session of anger work, then I would listen to your body and when it's 'done' - there's a specific feeling you can tell when it's had enough. But you don't need to spend loads of time doing it. Even a few minutes getting in touch wtih your anger will be helpful. In terms of how many months/years etc...it's like asking how long is a piece of string? This is more like a lifestyle we develop - like fitness. You don't just do exercise for a month then stop when you get fit. You just...keep doing exercise cos its good for you! Emotional work is similar - we keep just meeting our true emotions over and over - and slowly get more happy and more free (on average lol - with many ups and downs!).
Hey Ben! I have a question regarding your experience with this if you have the time to answer: Does this kind of practice get ”easier” the more i do it? I find i have a lot of resistance to any of my feelings due to trauma. Sometimes I can access my tears of feeling unlovable (huge step for me), but most of the time my body feels unsafe. Cheers man, love the work you do.
Hey Douglas - thanks for the question, it's a great one. Yes, it does. HOWEVER - the key is really learning to work WITH the resistance (safely). This means, firstly, creating a foundation of safety (see my resourcing video) and then, secondly, learning to discern and investigate the resistance to our feelings. Sometimes with clients I spend the whole session discerning and allowing the resistance. When we welcome the resistance it relaxes and then the feelings from below flow up without us having to do anything. It can be helpful to have support from someone for this. I think I'll do a video on how to work with resistance also - that would be v important. It's the KEY! You don't want to force your way through the resistance - you'll just make it stronger. Sounds like you're doing great work tho :) focus on safety and welcoming resistance and see how you get on. Cheer,s Ben
@@drunkenbuddha4456 Thanks Ben for your reply! I appreciate you and you taking the time to help a stranger on the internet. Would love to see a video focused on resistance, it’s definietly one of my main challenges right now! Been trying to embrace the resistance instead of dissociating from it last day and it’s subtle but it feels like it helps, was able to let through some tears :) Cheers man! Douglas
@@Douglas-gu4my No problem :) OK yes great job. What I mean by 'going with resistance' will be clearer as you practice more - amazing job getting through to the tears - this stuff isn't easy! Stay tuned for the resistance video in a week or so :)
I’m getting very weak while doing these practices, I almost feel like falling on the floor. Is it that my anger tried to protect my vulnerability wich is now ready to be looked at?
Yes, it could very well be (although I cna't say for certain from here!). Often if we start feeling our anger we can 'break through', and suddenly the helplessness/vulenrability/hurt that it is protecting will come up. At this point you want to let go of the anger and move into feeling and embodying that vulnerability. See if you can feel and inhabit it, bring some love to it. LEt it lead you, so if the body wants to collapse, let it (gently!) do so, let it lie on the floor or slump in the chair - fully allow that collapse part of your to be as it is. Great job though - breaking through to the vulnerabilty is great progress!

I am releasing the anger that I repressed towards someone but in the same time I realised I allowed that person to treat me that way …
I am too medicated to feel it much at all.
