well it honestly kinda is, most bands are satanic, most of them do horrible things on stage and back stage, most do hate God and most do sing about satanism. Even when the christian bands first came out everyone was against them. Until i saw the actual christian bands, is then i realized it's not just about that. Nowadays the christian bands are honestly more metal.

    Fun fact:
This song has since been dedicated to his VERY close friend and Slipknot bandmate Paul Gray whose life was lost to drugs...
    AAAND...
It's been said, both by Corey and others, that the scene where he breaks the glass was an accident and the blood on his hand was from a cut suffered by the breaking wine glass... it's also been speculated that he was reflecting on Paul's death while filming that scene.

    • @hrnancastillo
      @hrnancastillo 4 роки тому +33

though it’s been speculated because the song’s been dedicated to him, the music video was filmed and released a year prior to Paul’s death so Corey was probably just reflecting on the original inspiration of the song. Still, after what happened to Paul I think the song has a gained an entire new meaning for both the band and the fans

Please correct me if I’m wrong, I think Paul was still around when Snuff was filmed. The video was filmed October of 2009 and released in December of the same year. Paul passed away May 10th 2010. Now that Paul is gone, it was said in an interview that the song has taken on a whole new meaning for Corey and the band. Also I’m pretty sure this song was originally written about a woman who Corey was engaged to at the time , prior to the video being made.
After writing this comment I realized Hernan Castillo beat me to it.

Snuff is one of the greatest songs ever. It captures so much pain. I personally love this song. I connect with this song, as well as most people would. Its 100% okay to feel these feelings and to express them. As men, we deal with a lot of expectations. Men, have this standard hanging above them to be strong and not to break. To not cry, to not talk about their problems. I've had some pretty heavy break ups and lost love I've felt the pain this song so perfectly encapsulates. The feeling of love is so strong. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out sometimes. It can leave you empty inside and confidence turns to insecurity. It can be one of the hardest things to go through in life. BUT, you gotta find a way to take that hurt and that pain and use it for personal gain. Self development. Focus on work, Focus on a hustle or a hobby. Try some new things like playing guitar, disk golf, gardening, SOMETHING new. Something that adds to your value. You cant let someone who broke your heart make you hate yourself to the point your emotionally crippled. If you do that, they win. You have to let go, which is hard. and its 100x harder to ever find a healthy relationship. While your heart is still bleeding from wounds its gone thru. This is why alot of people have trust issues and why there are alot of toxic relationships these days. Toxicity creates more toxicity. the only possible way to heal is to love yourself. grow yourself into somthing your proud of. And dont worry. your worth somthing and someday someone will see that :) hope this heap of words helped somebody going thru it.

    And the last verse is:

I have to say I had almost lost my faith the past year 9 years into fighting cancer - stage 4. Yet it is not that so much as fellow Christians! Judgmental! Pastor had restored my faith that you can be so open to metal music! I've been through a divorce 💔 horrible
I love the way you can relate & communicate on a level without pushing religion. However at the end to take theology & how it relates is actually healing. No-one should judge you for that. Most Pastors wouldn't even entertain 'secular' music much less metal. Thank you

I admit, I lost all faith when my mom died. I had so much anger towards everything and everyone, including God. She suffered like no one should, but she never lost her faith. Two days before she died (last time I spoke to her), she said "I'm going home, I'll see you again. I love you."
I'm sorry to hear about the cancer, that's awful. Keep up the fight! It's nice to see pastors actually listening to, and feeling the lyrics. Here's to hoping others will be found.

@@mrhappy9056 On albums maybe. On stage this song is dedicated to Pual Gray. Rather the acoustic version Corey sings is dedicated to paul. So from a personal standpoint he dedicates the song to paul. The premise of the song itself isn't really for the woman but about her and his experience. It ended up dedicated to paul on stage from corey as it was the last song they actually worked on together and I can find nothing about Vermillion being dedicated in any way to paul other than joey and paul wrote the song together.
Vermillion was a personal song for gray more than dedicated to him. I'd say dead memories is more of a dedication to Paul as far as a full on slipknot song, but snuff is personally dedicated to paul in corey's eyes.

You are both incorrect. Paul died in 2010, and both of those songs are pre-All Hope Is Gone, which is the last album he was a part of. The song "skeptic" was the song most directly dedicated to Paul. But, to be honest, the entire album was called "The Gray Chapter", so pretty much all those songs were written with Paul's passing in mind.

I"m not sure of course, but I think he's dealing with the lonliness so much to the extent that he dresses up as her in her old clothes, and puts on her makeup, etc. The title is called "Snuff" and things that are considered "snuff films" is typically a video of someone dying on camera. I think it can be deduced that the lonliness/abandonment has killed him (more so, metaphorically of course), and we are watching the memories of her, match up with his coping of the loss. Idk. Honestly, love that you're trying and wanting to relate to the youth at your church. When I started listening to Slipknot at a young age, no one desired to try and relate with me, and so it really means a lot with what you're doing here. I took him dressing like her more symbolic, as in his life was so entangled with hers at one point, that when she walked away she took a part of him. That’s what Paul the bass player told me once before he died. So they weren’t yet at the height of their careers or really making any money to speak of. Even after the first album was released it’s not like they were instantly rich and famous. I don’t really care for any of their albums other than the first. It seems like they lost something after the first album that they were never able to duplicate.

Lots of layers in music that need to be peeled back to see the true message and I think you will find that most artists are spreading beautiful messages through their despair and their views of the world today. Thank you for being so open minded. Please feel free to reach out to someone that feels like the Church has abandoned true believers these days for the money changers. Convince me that it’s not true.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Many churches have marginalized people and things by making unbiblical rules and traditions, or simply because they don't understand them. Labeling it as evil or satanic without having a clue what it is. They usually fail to learn more simply because it scares them. This is why I started this experiment. to learn more and educate others. Even though I am relatively conservative theologically I reject traditionalism and outright detest legalism, as does the Bible. I feel like the church has failed in these areas and has alienated many because of it. Especially as it relates to the "Arts". I hope to be a part of the solution.

I was raised Christian and still do my best to be one. My grandma was my main teacher taught me at a young that you don't have to go to church to make it to heaven and that the devil goes to church too. Being a real Christian or Gentile only has 3 rules and one of them is to love your neighbor which not judging someone by their cover is a big part of that rule because it's not the church's job or anyone's job to do the judging. I have Slipknot lyrics tattooed on me from the Heretic Anthem. (Nobody wants anything I've got, which is fine because you're made of everything I'm not) Even though the main chorus is "If you're 555 then I'm 666." I've been a fan since I first heard "Wait and Bleed" on the radio. Their music came to me at a very troubling time in my life and not just because it was my teenage years. I picked the Heretic Anthem because not only are there other lyrics in the song that hit the nail on the head for me but the chorus to me said that if you are judging me and tormenting me because of your assumptions of who you think I am. Especially when it's done by people who are so called Christian. Then I'm already better than you in His eyes. One of the things my grandma told me when I was growing up when I was at a weak point was that God gives the toughest challenges to his strongest warriors which always helped me feel like I had a purpose. I wasn't a very big kid growing up or confident for that matter but God blessed me with one hell of a destructive right hook and Slipknot's music allowed me and taught me to channel my anger and hate. It gave me the push I needed to get up and to dig my toes in the ground and keep pushing no matter how much it hurt. Without my personal relationship with God and Slipknot's music I don't think I would have made it this far or be the person I am now. This Pastor/Father is fucking awesome. I understand you might feel abandoned, there's a lot of people that claim that so many songs are bad or evil outright. I'm Catholic and I'm a metalhead, some people think I listen to "satanic" stuff but I've got a few Catholic friends myself who are huge metal fans as well. I don't think the Church abandons people, I believe that people abandon people. Hopefully it's not an entire community in an area that turns their face away from people who are different. I think the problem is understanding and how the stereotype of "satanic metalheads" being employed by the louder voice from both sides of the "heavy metal is satanic" argument.
It's always cool to see that people like Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath's bassist) is Catholic and that Black Sabbath in general is made up of Christians. Just keep your head up and keep being yourself, God is always loving and understanding.
Pray for those who don't understand and who don't have an open mind, they need God's gift of Wisdom.

    This is the Lyrics “SNUFF”
Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again
So if you love me let me go
And run away before I know
My heart is just too dark to care
    I can't destroy what isn't there
    Deliver me into my fate
If I'm alone I cannot hate
I don't deserve to have you
Ooh, my smile was taken long ago
If I can change I hope I never know
I still press your letters to my lips
And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss
I couldn't face a life without your lights
But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight
So save your breath, I will not care
I think I made it very clear
You couldn't hate enough to love
Is that supposed to be enough?
I only wish you weren't my friend
Then I could hurt you in the end
I never claimed to be a saint
Ooh, my own was banished long ago
It took the death of hope to let you go
So break yourself against my stones
And spit your pity in my soul
    You never needed any help
You sold me out to save yourself
And I won't listen to your shame
You ran away, you're all the same
    Angels lie to keep control
Ooh, my love was punished long ago
If you still care don't ever let me know
If you still care don't ever let me know

My youth pastor was one of my best friends. One tip, I'd comment more on just the song rather than the video. I like the religious perspective and commentary. On Corey Taylor, he's a very deep and compassionate person. He also has a band called Stone Sour you should look into.

So far I’ve seen you’re video on Judith and this one for snuff diff keep doing what you’re I highly respect the fact that you listen and analyze with a very open mind to where the songwriter is rather than condemning the fact that Maynard screamed profane blasphemies. I think if people are offended by religion enough that they are criticizing you two at all for relating the message In the song to what you feel in your heart from your faith they probably should consider their own sensitivities and avoid clicking on pastor reacts and analyzes whatever the song may be esp be it metal and of the topic. I myself am Wiccan and believe that the world is a better place when all can set aside personal belief differences and respect one another and one another’s right to their own beliefs all that is to just say don’t be discouraged by negativity and keep doing what your doing I really enjoyed these videos and listening to your thoughts on what the songs say to you. Running through the same vein of these other songs I recommend the bleeding by five finger death punch. It’s an absolutely great song that deals with relationship struggles and bad endings

I've followed god my whole life and i grew up in a verry unhealthy situation. I discovered slipknot in middle school and had noticed that Corey Taylor's writings spoke to how i felt at that time. I leand a lot and it even led to me finding the kids who relate to me... most also having a belief system. It was empowering and encouraged me to not be a victim, but to over come it. Needless to say im still a huge fan, and I'm verry connected the the inner workings of my church

That sucks I used to be a hard core Christian then found my faith in gods before christ cause god is a jealous god. Jealous of what? Oh yea the gods before him like Odin. But seriously satanic by music. Naaaa no way. Theirs no way to describe music as a personal reference of religion. It's all a matter of opinion. And you know in ways opinions can be sins so why have one about music. If you like it and enjoy it fucking listen to it and sing it if you like. Fuck the opinions and others down casting you for a music choice. I would never try to control a person's free yes FREE WILL!!!
