    My tent poles don't have tips that screw in, they are the "press fit" type that have a little dimple on the side for friction hold. To my surprise, the tips came off easily when I pulled on them with some small pliers, a Leatherman Juice. The tips also fit back together nicely with some pressure on the top of the tip. I hope this might help someone that runs into tent poles that don't have screw tips, i.e. "press fit" tips.

    While there may be others -- that I have not found -- this is just an extraordinarily useful video for replacing shock cords on a hub pole system. Excellent video, very helpful.

    It's worth noting that a lot of quality tent manufacturers will warranty the shock cord. Sierra designs did it for me. I paid for shipping there and they shipped it back for free and no service charge.

    I LOL'd as I became more sure that I'm fixing the same tent... QD3 from 2015 or so. I must say this was one of the easiest fixes I've done. It's even easier than the video makes it out to be. I was fully expected to freak out/ ruin it. I was lucky enough to have an outdoor store with spools of various cords and the one I chose is a little thicker (like in the video) and you cannot fit a knot in the pole. This includes a similar knot to what was originally in there, or a tiny stopper knot at the end. Make your burnt end hard and wide (I used a lighter and smashed the hot end against the lighter) bc it will be bad if the cord comes off it's end. Sorry I don't know the width. If you pull it too tight, your pole won't fold up nicely. I bought 40ft at 20 cents a foot, super worth it vs buying a new tent! I do like this tent just fine, it's otherwise doing fine and it got a second life! Thanks!

    4 things you need-
    1. A stitching needle (slightly heavy for gravity)
    2. Any tape, make sure the thread is about a inch over the cord then just tape it, make the tape pointy at the threads end, so it slides super easy into the pole hole.
    3. Thread (Thread the needle, thread needs to be 4-5 inches longer than the pole)
    4. Paper clip or better still if you have a second person to help, hold the cord as it tenses
    I just did this today and worked wonders. All the best, if your in this situation, carry the needle, thread and tape if camping( just in case) All the best, hope this helped.

    Thanks for the great instructional vid. Can you tell me what brand of shock cord you are using? I like the fact that it is stiffer than some and easily can be threaded.

    How do you know what thickness of cord to buy? How many feet should one buy? The length of the poles? How much tension should one have?

    How do I replace the shock cords in the tent poles included with my Kelty Tanglewood 2? The rubber caps at the end of the poles don’t seem to want to come off ☹️

      Straighten out a wire coat hanger and shove it in. If you're into firearms, a 22lr cleaning rod would/might also work.

      @@MortemTyrannis I tried witha a barbecue skewers a but didn't work, it's hardened like concrete, I think I'll keep it in soap water overnight and try again, thanks for the tip bro

    Why don’t tent poles just screw together?

    • @deathclock9
      @deathclock9 Рік тому

      that would take too long and leave more room for error. Also, I don't know how well a threaded connection would hold up with the flexing of the pole
