Thank you SO much for this! I was so anxious about fixing my tent poles and your video made it easy and fun. And the soothing background music was great. Really appreciate it!
I really appreciate that! I hope fixing your poles went smoothly!
Very Helpful! Thank you. I love the bobby pin trick. A bowline knot would be better than a square knot, less likely to come untied. Also, some people are having trouble with the knots being too big to fit back in the pole, so the cord can be "whipped" to hold in place, or just melted together. Lots of videos on how to whip a cord. I learned it at Girl Scout camp 45 years ago! Also , hemostats are the best home tool.
Great points! I try to melt my cord as soon as I cut it, but whipping it will also do the trick!
Thanks so much for this. We're about to go back into Algonquin Park next week, and I just found my notes from last year: REPAIR TENT POLES. Perfect.
Yay! Have the most amazing time!
Thanks for this video. This is exactly what I needed to repair my son’s tent!
Yay! I hope you get lots more use out of it!
Great video. I find on these types of poles starting at the joint and going to the 'gray' twist end easier to get tension correctly. Never used any guide wires or such seems all my BA tents slide the cord easily through the poles. MSR tents just as easy in my repairs. I love how folks sell tents though for really cheap when cord goes out, I have gotten 3 or more 'broken' tents and repaired. Keep teaching us all the fun.
Great way to get gear on the cheap! We got some brand new Salomons by replacing the shoelace.
I have multiple hemostats, they are so useful! Great video as always!
Thanks, Melissa! I'd have to imagine most of us nurses have several pairs laying around! I gave my wife a pair to use in her tackle box, and she loves them!

Thanks for this video! Do you know what the black pin you pulled out of the connection is called? The black plastic piece that splits apart so you can thread the shock cord through. Mine is broken and I'd like to find a replacement!
That is an excellent question! I have tried to research this some, and I've seen names like, "tent pole male end" or "tent pole end caps" or "tent pole plugs," but without much luck finding the piece you're talking about. This company may be able to provide the piece you need: www.tentpoletech.com/a3-2/ Sadly, in all the researching, I saw exactly zero that look like the ones here. I really hope you're able to get a replacement! You may also try contacting REI directly, I've found they can be very helpful with stuff like this.
Thank you!
❤️
