Replaced all but one cord. Unfortunately the cord I got was not enough. But with a little bit more the tent is going to be just fine again. Indeed the replacement is quite easy, I only had to fiddle a bit with the cords length since my old ones were rock hard and stretched out, so that I could not use them as a reference. Thanks for showing how to do it! Had to watch another video to understand the replacement of the cord in the middle pole.
Thanks so much for this, i have unpacked my Hubba Hubba NX tent and all the shock cords were stretched out, i was dreading having to buy new poles and waste my perfectly good poles! Thanks for sharing this video, love your products
Nice. The cord lost it's stretchiness quite a lot while being packed away in the winter. Had to get a replacement after just one year. Very happy with the tent though.
Didn’t have a clamp, but an adjustable scanner / wrench worked fine for me. Hardest part was figuring out a over hand knot. Best way I can describe it, is don’t feed through until second turn. Oh and take note of which end of the pole you screw the end into, although it won’t fit the next pole anyway if you get it the wrong way around. Gsus, this is far harder to put into words. Great video thanks!
I had the same problem! Just replaced mine just now. The video is helpful but I would not use his advice to match the length of your old cord with the new cord since your old cord is stretched out too much. Their Shock Cord Replacement Kit provides good instructions on how to measure the new length that worked really well for me instead.
Going camping in 2 days and noticed my shock cord has a weak spot (down to a few threads) in the first section near the Hub. There's enough spare cord in the end tip for me to cut the weak part out but how do I reattach the two loose ends so they will hold. There must be a knot for that 🤔.
How do I buy a replacement pole segment... My hubba hubba broke at the junction of two poles on the cross member... I have sent to request to the repair shop and not heard back

Hi, We can only recommend the Shock Cord, anything else becomes risky and then falls outside of warranty. Here’s the Shock Cord Replacement kit: www.msrgear.com/tents/tent-accessories/shock-cord-replacement-kit/05834.ht
To cut the old cord before replacing it with new shock cord, any scissors will do (they are easy to cut through). To determine length and tension, you'll want to measure the old cord or the pole segment. It's helpful to start with a little extra and use a clamp to hold the tension as you determine where to tie it off (this video will show you how!)
We keep a wide range of replacement parts and pieces for our products in stock at our repair shop. Get in touch with them via our simple repair form (www.msrgear.com/msr-warranty.html) to see if they have what you need.
It’s best to cut cord to length of pole then you can shorten length at knot (with screwlock tips) leaving more length in case it’s too long. You don’t want to cut to short and risk cord being too taut. It’s more of a feel, not too taut and not too loose.
It would seem to me that there out to be a certain tension force that could be tested for example with fish scale. For example, 5lbs of tension would be sufficient. Going by feel works perhaps based on experience of what works and what doesn’t, but something more objective would be more helpful given they are meant for the inexperienced. Have you ever tried determining a weight for the poles?
We encourage you to sign up for email notifications on the product page so you are alerted as soon as they become available to purchase On every product page we have a “Find in Store” button for local inventory and a “Find Online” option for our online partners. Feel free to use our dealer locator to find local stores that may be carrying the MSR product you are looking for: www.msrgear.com/ca/msr-dealer-locator.html
I'm here because I have a month old tent (Hubba Bubba) and the poles failed on the 4th night of use. MSR won't replace it but are sending me new segments so I can fix my new tent myself. MSR should be ashamed of their quality control and customer service.
WARNING!!! If you are replacing stretched out shock cord, DO NOT following the instructions about using the length old cord to measure the new length. I thought this to be odd thing when I heard it but I was also told to watch this video from a Cascade Design customer service representative as they were good instructions. The written instructions on the kit are more accurate but aren't even that clear. I'm not even sure the repair kit had enough cord to do my Papa Hubba NX if I had been given good instructions but now it definitely doesn't thanks to this terrible video.
I freaking did it. Changed all the cords! Yihaa... My beloved tent is back. I love this tent haha
I have neither a tent not a broken pole. Yet here I am at 2am

Ok @msr but how do you repare poles between the 3 connectors thing ?
OK, great....now where do I get a replacement pole? I can't find it for my Hubba NX.
My hubba hubba lasted for 5 trips before a pole snapped. I've been hiking for more than 10 years and am particularly kind with my gear.
Second trip for me! I sincerely hoped for more out of this gear. Seems too fragile!
Same here. Meh
Great video, I'm stuck on working out how to get the very tightly screwed on pole ends to come off - any tips?
Figured it out - no right tighty on these - right loosens - opposite of screws
Me too. They seem glued.
Wow good timing, my hubba hubba chord lasted like 4 camps

If the ShockCord is out of stock, what alternative do you recommend? I have a camping trip coming soon and need to fix it asap. Thanks
We recommend contacting our Warranty and Repairs so that they can further assist you.
Why don't manufacturers mold a collar on the flare ends to reduce splitting? I've been lucky, but I know splitting is a common issue.
I can’t use mine for measurement, I have looked around but with no luck. Where can I find them for hubba hubba nx?
do you know where I can purchase an Elixir 2 tent poles as I need to replace my actual tent pole due to breakage.

I was very surprised that he used an overhand “slipknot” to attach the shock cord, I’m not sure why that would be helpful
Shock cord is broken, can I use anything else like a yarn or jute thread instead?

I had exactly this issue on my second camp, meh. Seems easy to fix, but where do I get that pole part? Can you help MSR?

@@MSRGear I am in England, how can I get a replacement pole for the hubba nx1
So is it a fair estimate that a new MSR shock cord (knot to knot) should be 70% of the pole length?
That is fine. Some use 75%, others even down to 65%.

@@MSRGear thx, I checked your website and everything is out of stock.

I think there is a mistake about size ! How can you measure new cord size based on old super stretched one !
Seriously MSR ????!!!!
