Fixing shock cord on a tent pole and the MSR Hubba Hubba specifically

  • The shock cord that runs inside tent poles loses it’s elasticity over time which makes it harder to erect & dismantle the tent. It can also get pinched & perhaps even snap, a disaster if you are in rough weather.
    My MSR Hubba Hubba developed this problem last summer so I set out to replace the shock cord in the effected pole sections, with success! And recorded myself when doing so as the replacement cost of this tent at close to 600 euro meant I was very nervous & figured other could do with reassurance that it’s straightforward enough.
    I also briefly discuss how you can add tension if you are in the field when you first notice the issue. Essentially pull section of cord through the metal 3 way pieces to slot the poles together and once the tent is up the pole tension keeps them that way
