    My personal opinion, I had the HP4, great bike and all, the heat from HP4 was more for me, because of the full carbon fibre belly pan, it felt like it shot up and radiated my privates, nice during our winters here, at slow speeds. What I would like the HP4 to have is the cruise control, clutch less down shift, as it only has upshift. Unfortunately I had a crash with it, and due to the parts being so expensive on the HP4, they wrote it off. I could have bought it back, but it was to expensive for me. So I waited for the 2015 and wow, what a difference. The throttle response for me on the 2015 is way more responsive, only things I miss from the HP4 that aren't on the 2015 is the carbon bits, the full akrapovic titanium exhaust, the HP levers, HP rear sets and HP wheels. I had a long time to think about it, and I finally came down to the conclusion that I'd rather take the 2015 than the HP4. Sounds stupid and all, but I have my reasons. Thanks again for your video DODC, I always enjoy peoples different takes on previous and current bikes.

      This was an extremely helpful comment, thank you for taking the time. Interesting perspective you've had about both HP4 and new S1000RR. You've left me with a lot to think about.

    @DukeOfDC I wonder what the difference might be that you felt. My other RR has forged wheels and Q3s, not Pirellis. I do feel that the second RR feels sharper. Since there are two variables there I can't say what it is but maybe it's the forged wheels on the HP4 that makes it feel sharper. I gotta get you on my other RR sometime. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me ride that Aprilia!

    • @DukeOfDC

      I would love to ride the other RR, and although I think the HP4 is "better" it's not to say your S1000RR wasn't incredible. It's the battle of two godly motorcycles, and that down-blip shifter is mmmm mmmmmm. Hope you had fun blasting around on the Tuono :)

    As a HP4 owner I totally agree mate. Then again I may be biased 😜. Over here in Australia on hot days and in traffic before we were legally allowed to filter I noticed so much heat coming out the left side of the frame in particular. It was bad to the point where one day wearing my kevlar riding jeans I got a small burn blister on the inside of my leg. It is not a problem at speed or when im wearing leathers. As a fix I got the illimberger carbon fiber frame covers and installed them. They helped with the heat and cleaned up the look more. Cheers

    So what did you go for, the latest S1000RR or the HP Sauce?
    One big thing to consider, in hindsight, is the RR suspension is by default set up more "comfy" if you have the DDC. When you buy it new and set it up as per the manual then ride it a 1,000 miles or so and then re-set it up again it's just magical. From people that I know that have the HP4 there wasn't that break in period.
    I just upgraded to a 2016 S1000RR with all the fun stuff on it. I'm curious what the upcoming HP4 has...

    • @DukeOfDC

    I'm getting a but off topic but I seriously feel that Aprilia should have based the Caponard on the RSV4 platform, I've ridden my buddies Caponard for 1200km and the suspension is sublime but compared to the Multistrada it really lacks power, and the RSV4 platform is simply epic, Guys like this comment so that Aprilia can see this and our Duke of DC, Duke buy a Duke, so we can say Duke rides a Duke

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому +1

      The Caponard is one that I haven't ridden yet, but also one that I havent heard a lot about aka it doesn't seem to compete with the other adventure touring bikes out there, so maybe it's time to up the power. Hahahaha Duke of a Duke would be the most appropriate bike choice.

      the caponord is basically a dorsoduro 1200 with touring goodies, it makes about 125hp so not as powerful as a multistrada or s1000xr but not a small number either, its more on the comfy touring side than those two

    Are you ditching the supernaked category? What I really want to see are features on the Superduke, S1000singleR and comparison with the Tuono Factory - which I'm specifically considering trading my gen2 Tuono in for.

      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      I am indeed. I have nothing against the SuperNaked category, but want to try something different. I did however love the 1100 Tuono and have had an incredible time on the S1000R both times I've ridden one. The SuperDuke is looking like a unicorn to my hands on haha.

    How does the Tuono feel after riding those refined BMW's ? Does the Tuono feel raw and primitive after riding these other bikes?

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому +1

      It takes a bit of getting used to once I hop back on, and yes it's a bit less refined. The riding position is more favorable, but the components and handlebar position makes it a bit less comfortable than both the S1000RR and the HP4. I do notice that the low down torque makes my Tuono zippier off the line.

    I passed you guys leaving B&B there where you pulled off. I was creeping on those RR's the whole time there, kept coming back to them, they are NIIICE. But I'm gonna test ride a cruiser, I'm starting to crave a little more comfort than what my VFR provides. Will miss the V4 though, best motor out there. Wish I could've taken home that Magna that was there. Such a sweet ride and in great shape. Thanks for the sticker BTW. Later.

      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      Dude, I completely feel you on the comfort requirements lol. I've actually started looking into the s1000xr and if you can believe it, the r1200gsa as potential Tuono replacements. Just want to be able to ride from here to the moon and back without the pain. Sorry we didn't sync up with you for the ride out!

      +DukeOfDC no worries. I think the XR is just about a perfect bike. I'll probably put up with the sport bike for awhile longer, until the FZ10 comes out next summer. I talk myself in and out of a cruiser constantly, but I'm not ready to have a bike payment anyway.

    I sold my 2010 S1000RR and bought a 2015 S1000R. My next bike will be the Multistrada or the S1000XR.
    How'd the BMW's compare to the RSV4 RR you rode?

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      I've been loving the idea of getting an s1000xr or r1200gsa next and riding in comfort but still having great power (the s1000xr being the sportier of the two, of course.) The BMW is more refined, and electronic suspension is almost a must for me now.

      @jamesbroad5056 8 років тому

      Just bought an S1000XR myself. Such a comfortable bike compared to the supersports/naked catagory but it is plenty powerful. My issue is all the electronic assists like gearshifting etc. Just more things to go wrong with the bike. Absolutely love it so far though.

    Hey DC, love seeing the roads where I grew up and lived for 20+ years. Still have my Membership at Springfield Golf & Country Club if know where that is. (Keene mill rd/Rolling rd) ....Anyway, I have the 2016 BMW S1000RR + others..(See my channel). ...and my only problem with the BMW is that can burn your legs if in reg pants on frame. Not so much around feet like you were saying. Anyway, there is a 650ib who just told me that if put carbon fiber on frame, alleviates the problem. Good luck with your decision DC.......

    New S1000RR comes with a factory 3 year warranty. Used HP4 has little or no warranty left. These bikes are techno marvels and magnificent machines. But a replacement engine is $10 grand if you blow it. I'd take the new bike with factory warranty, thank you very much.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

    HP4 was a "prototype" for the new 2015 S1000RR. For some reason people don't know this.

    • @motoken
      @motoken 8 років тому

      to clarify not saying HP4 is bad, not at all, but it's really only special because of the number and the resale value is going down since people realized it's not really that special.
      The new model has more features...and upgrades; if those are not the metric in which you measure a "better" bike then you're just going by personal choice then it's all subjective.

    • @JackFN_VR64

      Ditto . E.g. according to reviews and info the motor on the 2015+ bike is less peaky. The motor has more power at the top and more torque lower down. Plus, if you really wanted to, you can buy all the carbon HP parts, accessories and forged aluminum rims etc from BMW...

      Ouch. Although the mulitstrada isn't on the top of my list, I can't make the decision as to what bike I want off of other opinions. I take everything into account, but at the end of the day, my money, my bike, my decision.
