They way Dave smile at the ends at him before the end is like “Your dad is damn proud of you son”
Just pounding his grief into those drums. And then bending down to kiss the snare... Man.
Plays just like his father, same mannerisms
I bawl every time. At least 100 times now.
Dave’s mom had died a month before this concert. That first fill gets me in the feels every time. When the band toured in the summer, they all took their families with them. One big extended family. Each band member an uncle to the other’s kids.
Love that Dave Grohl keeps turning to check on Shane
10:08 when he kisses his Dad's snare before his last riff leaves me crying every time.
Me too 😢😢😢😢
So Taylor died in March 2022, this tribute show was in September ‘22 and was the band’s literal first show afterward. They didn’t actually get back to touring until May this year.
And Shane had just turned 15, here, so he was 14 when his dad died, he also has two younger sisters.
That’s so sad, damn…
You don't learn to play drums like that at 16 years old, that is a talent you are born with!
I've been a drummer for almost 10 years now and i have watched hundreds upon thousands of covers, professional performances, you name it. I have never been moved by a performance like this one moved me. Shane put more heart into that one performance than many drummers put into their entire careers. It never fails to make me emotional and I have watched it dozens of times.
That kiss he gives the snare drum before revving up the drum solo at the end. It tears me up every time
Shane as recently sat in on gigs with his dads side project, Chevy Metal. He is an insanely talented drummer.
I was there - it was amazing. For 6 hours we sang, we danced, we laughed and cried… RIP Taylor. We felt his precence
So the first man in the green tank top that first hugged Shane, off stage was Roger Taylor's (Queen) son (who plays drums for The Darkness), Rufus Tiger Taylor. Freddie Mercury gave Roger the name, Tiger, for his newborn son.
The most meaningful rendition of this song, ever.
Man, i lost it as soon as Dave said "weve got the little guy...
Shane definitely has his dads magic!
Man I’ve seen this countless times yet it makes me so emotional. The connection between Dave and Shane as well as the grief and anger written all over his face. It’s painfully beautiful
Taylor is also the drummer for Alanis Morrisette’s Jagged Little Pill album. This video never gets old. Such a beautiful tribute. I love that every time Dave sings “There goes my hero!!!”…they show Shane on the big screen just tearing it up. And the kiss on the snare…heartbreaking and poignant.
This one gets me every time I see it. My husband also died suddenly, and one of the oldest our 5 children was 16 just like Shane. The fact he did this just months after his dad died, he is amazing. We were like zombies in grief and shock the first year or two. I couldn't do it as an adult, and this 16 yr old killed it and honored his dad so much.
I believe this concert was actually in London. Shane has his own band, with a bunch of his friends. The Foo fighter were basiclly Shane uncles.
Brings tears to my eyes every single time. There, then, that, you can't begin to know what's going thru that kid's mind.
Probably over 100 times watching this performance and I still can't do it without my eyes watering.
I was at this gig and I can tell you now there was not a dry eye on the stadium!! Certainly a day I will never ever forget
I drove from pittsburgh to New York City.. to see the FOOS open Madison Square Garden for the first time after covid.. it was my first foos show.. IT WAS THE BEST SHOW I EVER SEEN and best weekend of my life... DAVE GROHL and Taylor were just FUCKING MAGIC TOGETHER
I play with session musicians all the time as part of my work.
Drumming like this can't be taught, many drummers are great but not many of them have 'it'. This kid has it in spades.
I hope he's nurtured by good role models because we haven't seen the last of him. There is greatness here.
Shane reminds me of his pop with his playing style. I'm sure Taylor was proud of his son.
They ( foo fighters ) also brought out Wolfgang Van Halen to play some of his dad's ( Eddie Van Halen RIP ) stuff during this show. Since Eddie had passed around the same time as Taylor.
Pure emotion and respect. Such a beautiful video.
Play your heart out, little man! This made me bawl my eyes out ❤
I want to say Dave originally wrote this for Kurt Cobain..and 25 years later unfortunately it's dedicated to another one of his loved ones. Nonetheless it's a beautiful song, and Shane tore it up.
Love the double meaning given to "There goes my hero" for this particular performance.
One hero passes, and his son steps in to become the next.
Such pain and pride just bursting off Dave Grohl, still hurting from the loss of the father, incandescent with pride for the son.
LMAO - I've had this exact "argument" with my husband over my chocolate.
@10:04 playing with a broken drumstick...what talent he has for a 16yo
This is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever seen. I watched this clip countless times, and it still makes me cry.
Shane has been working his butt off and is phenomenal- he plays with Chevy Metal, you guys should check out some of the fan footage on UA-cam of the recent Chevy Metal shows - he’s amazing!
Dave is Shane’s godfather and his go to male figure since Tay died.
It’s not just a member of the family. It’s a father and son bond.
And there are a lot dads that are their son’s hero. My dad is my hero.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Shane is playing on his dad's kit... sad way to "pass the torch", but the little man stepped up and gave those skins a good beating! You guys should watch the documentary Sound City if you haven't seen it... it really showcases Dave's love (nay, reverence) for the craft. I've seen the Hot Ones, he's hilarious. Also, I'm not really a Foo fan either... I AM a Dave fan though, especially when he trolls the Westboro Bat-shart Church!!!
Spot on that was indeed his dads kit:)
Very emotional watching this young boy play his heart out for his late
father!! Freakin’ inspiring!! Thank you for the reaction! 🌻🙌
The kiss in the snare...what an absolute champion kid to be doing this...what must have been going thru his nind during this ❤❤❤
Taylor joind FF in 1999, Shane was born 2006, so they have been with that boy since birth for sure.
I'm not really a foo fighters fan, I don't mind a song or two but I am a huge dave grohl fan... he seems like a cool dude... you got to check out when he kicked a guy out of a concert in London 2011 iTunes festival
Go Shane !!!!!!! Hugs much love ❤️😘🇺🇸
HOLY FUCK!!!
Taylor got his start with two Canadian ladies before the Foo Fighters , The first was A Rocker by the name of Sass Jordan she hired him when he was working in a music store they backed up Aerosmith, After Sass Alannis Morisette hired Taylor he was with her for a while but when They played tog with the Foo Fighters is was very soon after that that Dave Grohl hired Taylor for the Foo Fighters
Shane was amazing. IS amazing I should say, just like his dad.
listening to this, I couldn’t listen to it by myself so I had to put on a reaction video because my big brother just passed away last month. My other big brother passed back in 2017, I named my son after him. I made a stupid joke about two months ago that if I wanted to keep the name tradition going I would have to become a hitman. I made that joke to my brother and he busted up laughing and told me he would volunteer as tribute. A month later, got a call at 3 am from my parents, whom I haven’t had a relationship with in two years, they were crying in hysterics and told me my brother was gone.
Also, your girlfriend is absolutely GORGEOUS and her smile is one of a kind. And she seems so sweet, and a soft and kind hearted person. All the love to you both !
In another song on this same concert (i believe it was Taylors favourite song),Daves voice cracked and he couldnt stop crying, but masterfully by the help of a loving crowd that tried to help him back by singing with him, made him compose himself and finish flawlessly!
Yes,it was his mom Alison Hawkins backstage with tears in her eyes, clearly showing through her body language how proud she was of Shane.
lol I cry almost every time I watch it
The woman backstage is one of the background singers. His mom was out front. An awesome beautiful lady.
You guys are such a strong couple. For you to say what you did about the afterlife and for her to look at you like that, I love that and wish I could have it. Shane absolutely killed it especially with the triplets he did on the snare that Dave (who wrote the drums) and Taylor playing Dave's cover. Kudos to you guys,
So much talent
He's just like his dad.
can we just take a moment to appreciate mrs office bloke dave's singing voice XD
I'm fine with Josh Freese being the drummer now, because Shane's still in school. I bet Dave offered it though. And I wonder if the answer was 'no' or 'ask me in a few years'.
How did I not notice that they brought out his dad’s drum set ! Sitting right next to him
damn like father like son. kid smashes the skins great reaction cheers from oz. haha intro was gold guys
He was 16 yr. At that time
Great reaction from you two
Instant chills 🤘🏻🔥🥰
90,000 people at Wembley Stadium!!
I like the added bit of North American color added by ODB sipping a Sol..
Ash (hope I spelled that correctly), you are an absolute gem.
He was 16 at the time of the video
This was a kind of therapy for him….
I do believe in an afterlife; and I think Taylor experienced that moment 🥰. Side note: Dave, we need to get you some limes for those Mexican beers you’ve been enjoying 🍺😜
I cant believe how much he looks like his dad when hes playing
First time I've heard the song with Ash harmonizing, that actually worked pretty well, someone call Dave!
You should check out Rick Astley with the Foo Fighters, hilarious and good
I love that over the last 5 or so years Foo Fighters have had a kind of open door policy. They've done so many awesome unexpected collaborations.
I am not Foo Fighters fan, I like a few songs but never got into them. Yet I have to admit that was emotional as it gets. Check out Chris Cornell’s daughter Toni Cornell pay tribute to her late father and the late Chester Pennington of Linkin Park.
I had heard of the Foo fighters last year when I watched this program I think it was called the Foo fighters haunted Mansion or something like that. Anyway it was like a haunted house they went to record in and it was pretty wacky. So then I started listening to some of their videos on UA-cam and really got the liking them and then boom Taylor died! I was really kind of especially bummed about him because he seemed like such a great guy. Peace and love!
I was crying as soon as the drums started ❤❤
Epic Drummer....
In 2007 led Zeppelin had Jon Bonham's son, Jason play drums for their reunion tour. That was also amazing. Led Zeppelin didn't have to but they had a need to because it was family
❤😢 Amazing composure by such a great young man. Wow
SICK BELAKOR SHIRT DUDE
I would love if when shane gets older if he can play in the band as a full time drummer for them
the wife vibing to the song and singing the chorus is amazing in this video. it's a banger and she's vibing knowing the heaviness of the situation
Dave & Taylor were kindred brothers , should watch the doco called back and forth is so good . Love ya work guys
I watch this video at least once a day. It’s so inspirational to watch Shane and all his emotions. Watch it 100 times and get goosebumps 100 times
And some of us can "die" happy now....
I play my drums with a similar intensity...it is a helluva' workout!!!
Shane destroyed. And Dave looked at him like that was his kid on that kit. I have watched this vid maybe a couple dozen times and will keep in on my Staylist. If ja wanna know about Dave, watch his eulogy for Lemmy from motorhead. This man is real deal. His daughter Violet was amazing in Hanukah sessions. He tells the kindest stories about Lem, about Sir Paul (who gave Dave's daughter her first piano lesson and wrote a song w her. Salt of the earth Man.
Dave wrote this song for Kurt Cobain after he died.
Sol. Excellent choice
My hero was for Kurt his formal band and now taylor hawking
Its been a few years and still touches me that Taylor is gone. Seemed like a super cool easy going person. RIP
Someone already said it, but when I watch this the one thing I feel is Shane just taking his anger and his grief and just kicking the ever loving shit out of that drum set. That's what music is for. Emotional release. He left EVERYTHING on that stage and kissed the snare as if to say 'love you,. dad.' I can't speak to what he really felt, but damn if I don't get the impression that this was the moment he made his peace with the loss of his dad and could move on. It's fucking powerful stuff.
Good, very heavy hitting. Pau must be his sister!!!
He’s ok
yea, you lost me when you said " I don't believe in the after life". Same on you
Sad. I am just a tad older--reminds me of Jason Bonham and Led Zeppelin--similar circumstances losing fathers way to early to substances. Clearly the sons had authentic relationships with their fathers. this young one--we will see how his life path unfolds. I do think about Grohl and all his friends and band mates who have passed over and over again
💪🤘🙏
shane would have made a awesome replacement in foo fighters but id imagine it would be hella weird for poor young man
Rest in sweet peace Taylor Hawkins 🌹
Im 36 and I couldnt even hold a small speech in front of peopel without just tearing up and beeing speechless if my dad passed... Its freaking huge in my opinion PS: I wonder if he also is playing his heart out because if you lose your dad due to an OD you will have mixed emotions especially so short afterwards there will definitely be some rage in it. For a young kid that must be a huge disapointment for letting him down and a great loss at the same time. We all see Taylor as as hero and an amzing drummer but his kid might also see him as someone who abandoned him.
Played like a 16 year old kid mourning his dad
Great review and great choice of beer dude 🍻
13 years old here, I think!
Sensible reaction especially from the guy here but the girl’s grimaces, playing the emotion down sometimes and singing ruined it
No afterlife? Another godless heathen. I'm out.
Bye 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Hopefully sarcasm, if not... my god would beat the pudding out of your "god"! Also, aDios.
Also, also... I don't even have a god, shows how pathetically weak yours is. And yes, I am an a-hole and I make no apologies for my behavior.
Cya mate
@@AshReacts No, you won't, my Socialist friend.
This kid needed to get this out of him, and you can tell by his performance, and the way he was smiling at the end.
He's 13.
Are both Dave & Ash transgender? How does that work in the bedroom?
Why would you leave that comment? Even if they are why is it any concern of yours?
