Watching this live, I immediately noticed how the band was taking care of Shane in this moment, making sure he was locked it. I was impressed with them, but more impressed with his ability to recognize it and make his adjustments. I can’t imagine playing in front of 80k thousand people, let alone at a memorial concert for my dad, who passed just months earlier. If he keeps it up, we might have a superstar on our hands.
The best part of this whole thing was Dave guiding Shane to the tempo. I noticed it the first time I watched it and it gives me goosebumps. Shane freaking rocks. Did his dad proud.
Shane took everything has been feeling for the last 4 months and just poured it into those drums. What a moment! That was the best part of the night, definitely the healing we all needed.

He has absolutely incorporated both of his fathers drumming styles (yes, I'm including Dave... y'all know damn well that he calls Dave his 2nd dad.) And has made his own style that will pay tribute to Dave and Taylor long after they're gone.
For a very fleeting moment in time, everyone had Taylor back through his son! You can tell as much as everyone needed that he needed that even more, even the emotion of anger was so obvious, not anger anger but damn dad you’re gone and I’m here and you’re not.. like life isn’t ever going to be the same without you dad and I’m mad but for 4-5 minutes you’re energy is in me and I’m giving everything you’re giving me back to your fans and to your family The Foo Fighters!! Shane has cajónes the size of a basketball. He absolutely kills the drums. Awesome to watch. Michael, your reaction to the performance was obviously heartfelt. I had a very similar reaction myself. I bawled for you, lol
Best reaction I’ve seen! I can’t quit watching this for so many reasons, Shane Hawkins losing his dad. I may be wrong, but, he’s 16 ? Comes out in front of 90k people, playing his dad’s tour kit, to “ My Hero” leans down and kisses the Snare just before his solo, and sends this song into the stratosphere! I’m a big FF Taylor Hawkins ~RIP~🥁♥️ fan, and DEFINITELY A SHANE HAWKINS FAN FOREVER. Shane you’re a superstar man! 🎶🎶🥁🎶🎶💪💪👏👏👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟☮️💟
My Son, for his 10th birthday (7/29/11) asked to see the Foos on 7/30/21 in Milwaukee as his birthday present. I said HELL YES! After watching Taylor that night he is now learning the drums. It crushed him when Taylor passed. we both watched this in AWE! Your review is the best!
whenever i see shane playing my hero i cry. The energy he uses in the movements, at that moment he's like a front man in the band. He ran the show with great mastery.
I saw someone say this on the original video, but worth mentioning here, all that nervous energy, and the pain, he grieved on that drum set, and I'm sure it was such a relief for him to play it out for his dad like that. He will remember this day for the rest of his life. He absolutely killed it.
I shared this with my son who was in a band and taught himself how to play guitar! He was/is excellent. I’m such a proud mom. He’s 24 now. He still plays, but not in a band. Now he works and owns a pizzeria working 70 hours a week. I hope he gets back into music again. I know he misses it.
Mate I had the exact same reaction when I first saw this ....Shane totally owned this song...got bless this young man....spread the love people!!!...well done wee man xx. Chris
My hero is also my 17 year old son. Impresses me everyday. While not on stage yet playing music, he will be soon. Great to see music passed down in a constructive way. My hero.
This makes me WEEP every time. Cant think of Dave or Shane without being overwhelmed with this. I feel so lucky I got to see the Foo Fighters over Ten years ago at Virgin Mobile Festival at Pimlico in Baltimore. It was sooo fun. Dave was Hilarious. At one point he made their percussionist (not Taylor) do a triangle solo because he said “ we pay this guy way too much so he’s gonna earn it tonight!!”. At another point a set of keys ended up on stage and he stops and says “okay, lets see what kind of mother fucker comes to a foo fighters show” and he starts looking at their gym tag etc etc. i was also there with my Aunt who has since passed away. Such fond memories! Im so grateful 💜
As someone who had the absolute honor and privilege of being at the LA show all I can tell you is wait until proshoot footage of Shane's performance on that show is released, the kid is a superstar. Bombing straight into I'll Stick Around out of My Hero blew the fucking roof off the place.
As a drummer myself, I can validate this unquestionable fusion of energy and emotions that a great rock song (like this one) does to the state of mind and the emotional healing process when you play it. I have found myself lost it in the waves of emotion crying while hitting my system with such incomparable power many times...I simply love it!
I saw someone point out in the official posting of this performance that towards the end of the song during the breakdown, you can see he broke his right stick! He really put his all into this performance!
Your reaction is EXACTLY why I have LOVED this channel for years!! I love how much you love the music… just like we do brother!! We’re all in this big shindig TOGETHER!! Peace ✌️
I'm not the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but My Hero is one of my favourite songs of all time. There is something absolutely special about seeing drummers just play their heart out like that, strangely moved after seeing Shane absolutely own that.
This is the most precious, sweetest, heartbreaking, badass thing I’ve ever seen.. definitely up there with the Freddie Mercury tribute of 1992 same stadium and that is saying a lot.. I feel like a proud auntie. I just wanna hug him and feed him soul food lol
There’s a UA-cam video of Shane Hawkins on stage, at The Troubadour playing drums with Taylor Hawkins ( Chevy Metal ) singing David Bowie “Ziggy Stardust” Shane is fantastic, and Taylor is so proud of his son. It’s a gem.
My YT feed brought me here....I subbed 60 seconds in. I watched the live performance from Australia which started at about 2 /3am. I thought I had shed all the tears I could. The live chat was awesome to be apart of, people from around the world sharing their love, sadness and admiration for musician after musician. But when Shane came on.......WOW I hit a new level of pride and grief, as tears and air drums fell and crashed. I could not only see Taylors influence in Shanes performance, but Dave has definately played a major part in Shanes style. Thankyou for emulating what we all were and are still feeling. You did an amazimg review and really paid homage to the heart and soul musicians play with. Bless you. From Melbourne Australia🙏🌏💙

I watched this on Paramount Plus and cried like a baby and I’m weepy now. So glad you did this. Amazing
I have watched this so many times now, goosebumps everytime
I saw someone say this on the original video, but worth mentioning here, all that nervous energy, and the pain, he grieved on that drum set, and I'm sure it was such a relief for him to play it out for his dad like that. He will remember this day for the rest of his life. He absolutely killed it.
This whole teibute was super iconic
I shared this with my son who was in a band and taught himself how to play guitar! He was/is excellent. I’m such a proud mom. He’s 24 now. He still plays, but not in a band. Now he works and owns a pizzeria working 70 hours a week. I hope he gets back into music again. I know he misses it.
Mate I had the exact same reaction when I first saw this ....Shane totally owned this song...got bless this young man....spread the love people!!!...well done wee man xx. Chris
Bad ass Moment in Rock History Shane playing so loud for his dad 😢❤🤘🏻🥁 Amazing, beautiful Proformance
Shane is 16, great reaction, my favorite reaction yet for Shane playing drums.
The second most powerful performance I have ever seen.
THAT song , meaningful for so much situations , truthfull, exceptional, beautiful 🤘
Can't watch without feeling emotional . Shane Hawkins!!!
And I'll add , the drums are the ultimate rhythm in any song , and this kid nailed it
His Dad would be so proud. Bravo.
Shane is a natural and nailed it. His Dad's was with him in that moment, it gives me chills.
It’s a beautiful moment. Rest In Peace to a real legend
Best reaction to this. Very heartfelt, thanks Michael.
Thank you for this reaction video. You are the best.
I'd love to Shane take over his Dad's drums. I know he is young. But, the kid has got it and he has his Dad's talent and passion. Just beautiful!!!
He’s 14. FORTEEEN!!! Incredible!
I've watched 100 different reactions to Shane and yours is the best. Thank you. Stay passionate!
Your cursing was appropriate and well placed. I started tearing up seeing your passion. I love it.
By far this is the BEST reaction video of this performance!
Well done, Michael!!!
Cheers 🍺
As someone who had the absolute honor and privilege of being at the LA show all I can tell you is wait until proshoot footage of Shane's performance on that show is released, the kid is a superstar. Bombing straight into I'll Stick Around out of My Hero blew the fucking roof off the place.
This is only the 2nd time I've watched this clip, I couldn't help but want to see your reaction. I can't help but cry each time I see it.
A year later and I still weep and soar with the energy of this reaction and performance.
Kid was taught by rhe 2 wbest drummers in the world. And has it in his blood.of course this kid nailed it!!
My favorite reaction ever. It’s how we all felt the first time we saw it. Your whole body shakes. Can’t wait to see it live on Tues.
Without getting scary I love to see your emotion and reaction. Shane did a fantastic job.
Your reaction is EXACTLY why I have LOVED this channel for years!! I love how much you love the music… just like we do brother!! We’re all in this big shindig TOGETHER!!
Peace ✌️
It is clear that you are a musician who loves to play, but also someone who loves being a dad.
Something so powerful it made Micheal curse, this is a truly special moment captured on film. He's only 16!
There’s a UA-cam video of Shane Hawkins on stage, at The Troubadour playing drums with Taylor Hawkins ( Chevy Metal ) singing David Bowie “Ziggy Stardust” Shane is fantastic, and Taylor is so proud of his son. It’s a gem.
The crowd was doing its level best to fill Shane's heart with love and support.
"These parenting human family moments are the..fucking best." Bravo. Well said, mate!
What a great family. Dave, your awesome for helping Shane…
Have watched that performance a couple of times now... choked up every time. Awesome
Brought a tear to my eye.....AGAIN!!!
Music in normal instances has emotion and feeling, this is on another level. What humans can rise to amazes me.
I only hope and pray that the @foofighters saw this video
Shane at 16 is an awesome drummer now. He will be spectacular as he gets older
Nothing more exciting to a parent then to see moments like these.
I love your passion, and willingness to share your family experiences. That's what lif's all about, brother!
Absolutely AWESOME !
Makes me cry 😅
Glad to watch this for the first time with you.
He has his own Band...He is soooooo talented
