He has absolutely incorporated both of his fathers drumming styles (yes, I'm including Dave... y'all know damn well that he calls Dave his 2nd dad.) And has made his own style that will pay tribute to Dave and Taylor long after they're gone.
He is just 16. I have 4 boys and a girl. My husband died suddenly at only 45 a few years ago, and my mom died the same year. One of our older children was 16 and devastated. We were in a state of shock and fog the first 2 years. Just functioning was a struggle. That kind of grief shatters every part of you. The fact this kid can be so good and do this in front of a crowd that giant, who are singing for his dad, is beyond comprehension. Just performing in that setting most kids would choke. With the emotion that would take down most grown adults, I've never been so impressed in my life. He has made his dad so proud, and as my teen sons have said, "He will be able to date any girl in any high school in the world after this." lol. The term amazing is too often overused, but he earned it. This one hit me hard.
I’m not even a massive Foo Fighters fan, but the first time I saw this performance I was in the fetal position I was crying so hard. This kid put every bit of his anger, rage, and grief into that performance. But oh my goodness that last fill, to be played in front of a stadium full of people, and with men who would walk through fire for you, how cathartic must that have been for him? He’s got a huge future if he wants it!
I have seen more Shane Hawkins reaction videos than I care to admit, and this is by far the best one. You picked up on every detail of the performance, not just musically but perhaps more importantly on the emotional and human side of it. I agree, this performance is already a pretty historic performance. I cannot recall the last time I saw a drummer leave every single bit of their heart in a single song to this extent. You could hear and see the emotion driving him along... the restless left foot... the expression on his face... the sheer savagery of how he hit those drums. And at the same time, just CRUSHING the delivery. What a performance and what a reaction video. I am now a subscriber.
I love that Omar Hakim is right there at the side of the stage supporting Shane. You can see his bald head when the camera cuts to the back of stage. It's that kind of subtle support and unity that proves how special this moment was. Great video Michael - that was raw dude
Watching this live, I immediately noticed how the band was taking care of Shane in this moment, making sure he was locked it. I was impressed with them, but more impressed with his ability to recognize it and make his adjustments. I can’t imagine playing in front of 80k thousand people, let alone at a memorial concert for my dad, who passed just months earlier. If he keeps it up, we might have a superstar on our hands.
I think we already do. he knows drums, and he has the emotion and talent to get it all out there. one of the rock moments of all time for sure, this performance.
Shane took everything has been feeling for the last 4 months and just poured it into those drums. What a moment! That was the best part of the night, definitely the healing we all needed.
The best part of this whole thing was Dave guiding Shane to the tempo. I noticed it the first time I watched it and it gives me goosebumps. Shane freaking rocks. Did his dad proud.
I saw someone say this on the original video, but worth mentioning here, all that nervous energy, and the pain, he grieved on that drum set, and I'm sure it was such a relief for him to play it out for his dad like that. He will remember this day for the rest of his life. He absolutely killed it.
I'm not the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but My Hero is one of my favourite songs of all time. There is something absolutely special about seeing drummers just play their heart out like that, strangely moved after seeing Shane absolutely own that.
whenever i see shane playing my hero i cry. The energy he uses in the movements, at that moment he's like a front man in the band. He ran the show with great mastery.
Unbelievable performance by Shane. His dad would be more than proud! Biggest moment in rock this year. Michael, your reaction was all of us watching this performance. Thank you for filming this! Best reactions on UA-cam!
Hey Michael. That was one of the best reactions I’ve seen … to anything. New subscriber here. I’m not a guitarist or musician and I hadn’t known about your channel previously. But I’m a huge Foo Fighters fan and I caught a lot of the tribute concert online and have been watching reactions to this particular video throughout the week. Your musician’s eye caught a lot of the nuances that many miss and made this even more enjoyable. Plus, your ability to relate as a father yourself was terrific. I finished Dave’s book a while ago and have a lot of respect for him as a person. As a parent and accomplished musician, I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of The Warning - a trio of young sisters who play hard rock music. They opened for Foo Fighters in Mexico City just a week before Taylor passed in March 2022 and he and Dave had a ton of praise for them. Since you just honored Taylor (and Shane and Dave) with your terrific reaction, I think you might be interested in this. Here is a link to a song they premiered that night called “Money” … ua-cam.com/video/vm78KpEw3uw/v-deo.html. And here’s another headbanger called “Evolve” … ua-cam.com/video/3_RB0tRI624/v-deo.html. Looking forward to exploring more of your videos!
Yes Shane is great This was a good reaction and I hope he sees this and maybe reacts to The Warning. Something off the ERROR album it would also be cool if he commented on Paulina's Everlong performance she was only 13 then and destroys it on drums.
The short (behind the scenes) video of The Warning opening for the Foo Fighters is here: ua-cam.com/video/I1AsVaY6k6o/v-deo.html At the end of the video, Taylor Hawkins gave them a shout out. Ten days later he passed away. Also, the bass player for The Warning is only one year older than Shane.
I was there and it was incredibly moving and still is. I’m not sure I’ll ever really get over what I experienced that day. I love music so much more than I ever did and didn’t think that was possible
Love this Michael! As a dad of a 14 year old drummer, this is amazing to see and so emotional-Shane is a beast- def tapping into his dad’s energy and spirit. 🔥🔥🔥
This is the most precious, sweetest, heartbreaking, badass thing I’ve ever seen.. definitely up there with the Freddie Mercury tribute of 1992 same stadium and that is saying a lot.. I feel like a proud auntie. I just wanna hug him and feed him soul food lol
Michael, I know how much this moved you. I know you aren’t one to typically spices up your dialogue. In this case, you were freaking real and it’s heartfelt and appreciated. Hope this kid goes on and becomes all he can be. While I have watched the video dozens of times, I truly appreciate your emotional response. Rock on, my friend!
😭💭 At 10:50 when Shane kisses his dad's drums..I tear up instantly❤ And the way Dave looks at Shane throughout the whole song as if to say.. It's ok buddy, I'm right with you..is so precious and heartwarming❤❤❤💔💔💔
Your reaction is EXACTLY why I have LOVED this channel for years!! I love how much you love the music… just like we do brother!! We’re all in this big shindig TOGETHER!! Peace ✌️
For a very fleeting moment in time, everyone had Taylor back through his son! You can tell as much as everyone needed that he needed that even more, even the emotion of anger was so obvious, not anger anger but damn dad you’re gone and I’m here and you’re not.. like life isn’t ever going to be the same without you dad and I’m mad but for 4-5 minutes you’re energy is in me and I’m giving everything you’re giving me back to your fans and to your family The Foo Fighters!! So incredible!
I have seen a lot of reaction vids in my day but this was the one that got to me the most. Maybe because I am a father too, I don' t know, but it goes directly to my heart. I see this kid drumming the hell out of everything. Shane, I feel it. Thank you.
If you’re a fan of the band or even just music, then moments like this are a special kind magic. That night , he was everybody’s kid , everyone in that stadium and everyone watching at home was proud of him. We all felt it.
I saw someone point out in the official posting of this performance that towards the end of the song during the breakdown, you can see he broke his right stick! He really put his all into this performance!
Best reaction I’ve seen to this video. I was very very lucky to be there at Wembley for the show and everyone was on their feet for this and singing at the top of our lungs. Not just for the Taylor or the Foos but for Shane too. Felt like the whole crowd was behind him. Something I’ll never forget
I believe I witnessed greatness live in the UK on September 3! Taylor was playing through Shane that night and Shane's talent will move him forward to anywhere he wants to go! Well done Shane! Your Dad is so proud! 🤍 And can I say, I love your reaction the best!!!🥰🤍 New subscriber here!
I was one of those lucky enough to see this live. So much emotion from 7+ hours of rock royalty paying tribute to one of the greatest rock drummers of our time, and the son of Oliver "Taylor" Hawkins, Oliver "Shane" Hawkins is not only in his dad's seat, but also wearing his late father's shorts. What an honour ❤
As a drummer myself, I can validate this unquestionable fusion of energy and emotions that a great rock song (like this one) does to the state of mind and the emotional healing process when you play it. I have found myself lost it in the waves of emotion crying while hitting my system with such incomparable power many times...I simply love it!
I have watched this so many times and I cry each time, both in sadness and joy. This 16 year old brave man put everything he had playing this for his dad, himself, his family, the bad, and the fans. What an amazing performance and person. I hope he knows his dad was watching and is so proud of him. Shane, thank you for this….we needed this just as much as you did.
My favorite reaction of yours by far.. omg, I cried not because I haven't seen this but your energy made me realize exactly what a powerful moment this was. Thank you for being Raw.
I've watched dozens of reactions to this performance, and yours is the best. It's so so good to know there are people like you out there Michael. From a perspective of a rock & Roll dad who connects musically with his own sons. You can truly understand what Shane must have been going through. God bless you.
Long time watcher, first time comment (I think). This might be my favourite video you've ever uploaded. There's something about being shown something by a connoisseur. When someone who is completely invested in something can show you their excitement, it's something else. Watching Michael get so pumped was amazing. What a performance by Shane!
I watched the whole show live and with both Foo Fighters & Taylor as my favorites, I could not have asked to feel…really FEEL anything more cathartic than this songs performance. I cried, I sang along and I swelled with every emotion under the sun. Thank you for covering this, you’re spot on the whole way. All my love brother. -Aaron
He has absolutely incorporated both of his fathers drumming styles (yes, I'm including Dave... y'all know damn well that he calls Dave his 2nd dad.) And has made his own style that will pay tribute to Dave and Taylor long after they're gone.
I don't know if I love the performance or your reaction more! Watching you get so excited you just let your emotions and the f-bombs fly is THE BEST kind of reaction. And when you talked about the band being family-like and in tune with each other to stay together you were so spot on. When a group has that chemistry it is magical, I've been there in Jazz combo's before.
This was phenomenal and heartbreaking. I knew I could come here and you would react to it in a way that only you could. Such an amazing moment! Such a way to honor your father. Taylor would have loved this. Because a couple of years ago he was saying his son was very good at drums. But his son didn't really care about the drums. He wasn't commited. He knew beats, but couldn't play full songs. He told him he's not a drummer until he can play songs. Shane wasn't really interested in getting into it like that. Now the kid cares so much and wants to be a drummer just like his dad. Which is amazing! So many powerful things wrapped up in this preformance. Thanks Michael!
I remember Dave constantly looking back at Taylor throughout the concerts, half the time like they were the only two there playing for each other and watching this whole concert he rarely looked back at the drummer that was sitting in with them (probably the one he looked back at the most was Rufus Taylor but even then it was only a few times) but he checked back with Shane just as much as he would his father. He was clearly just as swept away with it as we were watching. He was just as proud as Taylor would have been in that moment!
Unbelievable performance and all the emotions coming out. As already so many ppl below have written, you can hear Taylor's drumming and love of music in his son's play. Thank you music for your healing power! And Mike, your reaction = priceless!
Your excitement matched mine when I saw this, it's the best thing I've seen in a while. The way Dave watches him, the way Shane kissed the drum before his solo, this performance was everything.
I don't think there is any better feeling as a parent than seeing your child devolp and grow. Shane shows an appriciation for his father in the best possible way and also shows that family is far more than blood.
My emotions all over the place every time I watch this kid. 16 years old. His talent is profound. I know the band and families and his Father is so so proud.
I had no idea that there had been a tribute concert when the video of Shane playing showed up in my playlist. For the next 5 minutes, I had tears streaming down my face. Then when I saw that WVH had played earlier? It connected so many dots for me.
Grief is such a beast. I watched this so many times that weekend and it felt huge and overwhelming and so cathartic. Your reaction video is so great; thanks for giving me another experience of this moment in music history.
I never listened to The Foo Fighters before, but watching this tribute....I felt it in my soul! Brought tears to my eyes watching his son play his heart out. I know a great performance when I hear it. I'm a Foo Fighters fan now. Taylors legacy lives on and his son saw to it in spades. Respect
This is why I love your videos. You are as passionate about your music as you are about real life happenings such as this young man who played his heart and soul out for his family and late father. Your words were beautiful. You made me feel the way you were feeling. I just lately found out that one of your sons goes to school with my grandson at CMES. small world.
I loved watching the passion and emotion on your face watching the most incredible, mesmerising song played I have ever seen and heard. Shane was amazing
Mike, this is probably my favorite reaction thus far. As a dad myself this caught me in the feels in a big way, I mean are you even human if you don't feel something in your soul from this performance? It was really cool how Dave was guiding him along, I didn't even notice that the few times I have watched this. They were definitely talking musically through the feel and the vibe. Love it.
As awesome as the whole tribute show was that is the highlight , having Taylor's son finish the show on his Dad's Drum kit and absolutely killing it is one of the most beautiful things a music lover can witness! I can't imagine what Shane was feeling but he did his Dad proud. Beautiful......
Thanks for this. I've watched his set over and over again, but your reaction is the best, particularly because you're a musician and uderstand the techicacl stuff and the performance stuff. Shane will also be playing at the 2nd tribute show in LA in a few weeks, I'm really looking forward to that. Thank you!
I have no idea how I haven’t seen this reaction before. Michael, I don’t play a damn thing, but I love your videos because they help me see music through the eyes of the musicians. That said , this is probably my favorite video of yours just because of your enthusiasm and intensity for the magnitude of the performance. Thanks for doing these.
This was my favourite moment of the whole show, and I love this video as well, I cannot wait for my little dude to get older and discover the joy and power of rock music

Your reaction was amazing. It was exactly how I felt when I saw this. Shane is only 16 years old. I'm not even a huge FF fan, but I have huge respect for them. If you don't feel any reaction to this performance you are not a music lover and most likely not human.
So many moments in this show...but this was the best. How this 16 year old didn't destroy the kit is beyond me. About the 20th time I've seen it and the emotion still gets me.
I was there. Without doubt the best 6 hours of my life. I thought the stadium was going to fall apart during that song. Every beat went through me! Whatever shane decides to do in life he will do it with so much support from all over the world. To stay so grounded infront of 90,000 fans is nothing short of incredible. It was an emotional night buy I’m glad I got there. Time may be a healer but my god the loss of Taylor is just devastating for so many people for so many different reasons. Seeing the rest of the band once again was like the first plaster being put onto a huge wound! We will find our voices again some day! Stay safe people 🤙🦅🦅🤙
16, 90,000 people in the stadium, a tribute to his father - it was an amazing performance. I really feel for him & for Dave. Dave's lost two very important band members and it's a testament to his inner strength and ability to keep playing.
I saw this several times prior to your watch. I didn't need the walk through to know just how special this was, but watching it through with your commentary highlighted moments that I missed. With the emotion that would take down most grown adults, I've never been so impressed in my life. He has made his dad so proud, and as my teen sons have said, "He will be able to date any girl in any high school in the world after this." lol. The term amazing is too often overused, but he earned it. This one hit me hard.
Sorry to hear of the loss your family has had. Blessings for continued healing and some happier times ahead. Love feom Melbourne Australia🙏🌏💙
Even more than just a pallid ceremony, I believe this to be their true grieving. This song was raw.
I love that Omar Hakim is right there at the side of the stage supporting Shane. You can see his bald head when the camera cuts to the back of stage.
It's that kind of subtle support and unity that proves how special this moment was.
Great video Michael - that was raw dude
Watching Shane just pour it all out onto that kit gets me every time. I can't watch this performance without crying.
Never heard Michael curse but perfect this brings it out. Pure energy and emotion.
I was about to comment the same thing 😅 Fits the video though with all the feels.
Dude's 16.. He's gonna kick ASS in the rock world if he wants to. His high school experience is going to be LEGENDARY after this show!!
A year later I still come back occasionally and watch this again. Best reaction you’ve done…the whole world is proud of him during this performance
Shane is a natural and nailed it. His Dad's was with him in that moment, it gives me chills.
Very powerful performance. Shane Hawkins just KILLED IT! It was a very special and huge moment!
Love this for Shane, Taylor, FF and us fans … did you notice Shane kissed the drum head before he started
whenever i see shane playing my hero i cry.
Yes, another vote for *The Warning* - 3 amazing young sisters!
Honestly, the way he attacked those drums reminded me of Paulina Villarreal.
Yeahh, it would be cool to see a reaction to TW!!
These sisters are incredibly talented!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
I have watched this so many times now, goosebumps everytime
😭💭
At 10:50 when Shane kisses his dad's drums..I tear up instantly❤ And the way Dave looks at Shane throughout the whole song as if to say..
Thank you.
I love your passion, and willingness to share your family experiences. That's what lif's all about, brother!
The crowd was doing its level best to fill Shane's heart with love and support.
Brilliant breakdown, watched the clip a few times but you pointing out the little things Dave and band do to help Shane throughout is really helpful.
Everyone needs to see this. Shane Hawkins was so impressive and truly made my day. His Dad was truly honored by this son's tribute.
I’ve seen this clip several times already and it still makes me tear up. What a moment, what a young man, gotta love rock and roll.
My favorite reaction of yours by far.. omg, I cried not because I haven't seen this but your energy made me realize exactly what a powerful moment this was. Thank you for being Raw.
As a dad and a rocker this moved me... Just amazing.
Thx !!! Yes Shane was amazing.
-Aaron
This is how you gain a subscriber one year later. Awesome reaction and honest about highs and lows.
Love the back story. THX BROTHER!
Okay this was awesome.. and your reaction was absolutely amazing to watch! This kid was unbelievable.. he made his Dad so proud.
I loved seeing your reaction as a dad. In that moment we all felt a sense of paternal pride, reflecting a fraction of what Taylor must have felt.
Speechless and full of so much emotion at the same time. This is what music and rock and roll is all about. Glen
I don't think there is any better feeling as a parent than seeing your child devolp and grow. Shane shows an appriciation for his father in the best possible way and also shows that family is far more than blood.
This was easily one of the most emotional moments in music I have ever watched. As a musician and a father of a young musician.
All his drumming uncles, sitting right behind his kit.... that was so cathartic for everyone. The kid is amazing and the band is family.
My emotions all over the place every time I watch this kid. 16 years old. His talent is profound. I know the band and families and his Father is so so proud.
This reaction is possibly my favorite reaction of all time. So sad and amazing at the same time. But you genuine enthusiasm makes it so much more
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this, and I cry every time.
I watched it live and here I am still teary eyed and still cheered for him…again and I always will.
I loved watching the passion and emotion on your face watching the most incredible, mesmerising song played I have ever seen and heard. Shane was amazing
Glad to watch this for the first time with you.
A year later and I still weep and soar with the energy of this reaction and performance.
Best reaction clip out there, all categories, none excluded.
This was my favourite moment of the whole show, and I love this video as well, I cannot wait for my little dude to get older and discover the joy and power of rock music
Shane has cajónes the size of a basketball. He absolutely kills the drums. Awesome to watch. Michael, your reaction to the performance was obviously heartfelt. I had a very similar reaction myself. I bawled for you, lol
I watched him live on the TV and my reaction was the same as yours, but i did ball my face off.
What an absolute talent that young guy is. So much to be proud of himself for. An emotional performance on so many levels.
I'm not a Dad but even I felt that 'Dad pride' that everyone on that stage, in that audience, watching at home, And clearly yourself felt watching this.
Love seeing such a genuine response to such a real and raw moment. This was such a memory for them all.
Stay safe people 🤙🦅🦅🤙
Without getting scary I love to see your emotion and reaction. Shane did a fantastic job.
Heartbreaking triumph. Absolutely stunning and one of the most unbelievable musical moments I've ever seen.
Thanks for doing this. I am PUMPED right now by how much music enhances my life. I am not a musician. I just enjoy watching your channel and learning all of the intricacies of playing live. Thank you.
