It's impossible to watch this and not cry. Dude played with his heart on his sleeve and watching Dave have nothing but pride and joy on his face seeing him crush it, will melt anyone.
This stupid ass message made me cry
It’s only stupid because it made me cry before even watching the video
I feel like I've watched this a dozen times and I still cry every time
Watching Shane's face throughout the song, I feel like he was not just paying tribute to his dad, but also pouring every ounce of his pain and rage into the kit. That physical outlet was probably so needed at that point.
Shane is definitely his own person, but little glimpses of his style and mannerisms are undeniably his dad. Loved this performance so much!
At the LA tribute, Shane played My Hero again, then they transitioned into I’ll Stick Around. Shane played a little solo after the second song too. It’s hard to catch the first time, but on this video, right before his solo he bends down and kisses his dad’s kit. I hope the rest of the Foos look after him and his siblings. I don’t know how he did this, to be honest. It took a lot of strength and composure. I look forward to whatever his future brings.
I didn't know he could be any better, but Shane outdid himself at the LA show! Bravo to Dave for givng Shane the extra spotlight with another song that had some crazy drum parts, and for the amazing final drum solo Shane did. For kissing the drums..I didn't realize what he was doing until seeing someone else point it out. Makes total sense.
Dave broke down during Times Like these it was difficult to see. Shane did a great job. The LA show last week was great as well.
With all that emotion, that 16 year old is playing his late father's drum kit!!! What an amazing job,I'm sure his father is smiling down on that young man!!!
So powerful
Shane played behind his dad on stage from Abt the age of 5. Taylor would set his own little drum kit it right behind his own and he's 16 but he's been touring since he was a baby. This child is everything that's beautiful in this 🌎 and he's playing these drums as though he's trying to make absolute certain that his dad can hear him over the 90,000 screaming fans at Wembley. When he bends down and kisses his Dad's snare right before the last solo I broke. I made it all the way to there but I could not get past that. This child is amazing
Have absolutely no clue how Dave is handling not only Taylor's passing but also his mothers passing also. 2 best friends in life. My condolences and prayers and good vibes to Dave and family.
I saw Shane with Chevy Metal here on YT. His abilities go beyond this. The guys have a new drummer now. All good!
Those snare double-flams throughout the verses are like the heartbeat of the song...and the walkaround tom double-flams in the choruses are like the emotion explosions that are just the icing on the cake!
The first several times I watched this, I felt joyful and sad at the same time. Not gonna lie, I cried each time. Shane did an amazing job and we all know Taylor was watching and beaming with pride. What an amazing kid. I am sure we will see Shane more in the future with his own band. He has mad skills. Not only did Shane needed this for himself, but Dave Grohl, the rest of the band, Taylor’s family, and us…we needed this. Thank you, Shane, for this.
Watching this video on the mtv channel made me come to the painful realization that I only got like 10-20 years with my dad, he's in his late 60s now.
Dave lost his mom 3 months after Taylor too. Collectively, we all feel for him and when he did break down, we all cried with him and rejoiced in moments like this
Thank you thank you for this reaction video. I was at the LA show where Shane also played I’ll Stick around with the same feeling and dynamism and a guy somewhere else on UA-cam commented that there’s no need for Shane to play like this and he should rein it in. I told the commenter his statement seemed mean spirited considering the purpose of the show. He called me a woke snowflake because what he said was only constructive criticism. Shane was playing for a reason… for many reasons that you articulated really well so… thank you again.
People are so weird. Shane's been playing since he was little..like for 10 years! He's grown up around his dad and the music he loved, and Taylor's been saying for years that Shane is a great drummer and that he hits them hard...it's coming organically from Shane, so he doesn't have to adjust it for any weird adults commenting what he should do, lol.
Here we are again. A grown man crying over this performance. Damn he played his heart out.
As many times I’ve heard and rocked out to the Foos live this performance is so pure. You’re right about Shane using his emotions to convey the love for his hero. ❤️
The secret to this song IMO is with the bass drum being "busy", keep the hi hat and snare sparse, don't crowd the song and give it a chance to breathe . Shane gets it in this, and it is a common thing in Foo's music.
This always makes me cry. I lost my husband suddenly and my own mother died right after him. My grief was overwhelming, but watching our 5 children grieve was a living hell. Our 2nd oldest was Shane's age and struggled the most. We were zombies in a blue the first year. For Shane to do this just months after Taylor died, that kid is amazing.
❤️
I feel like it’s the best Dave’s sung this. And Shane is killing it. And it’s great to see Pat back with the band.
Ok this is my first tune-in to your reactions. I will no longer be a stranger. Well done my friend. I am a 59 year old metalhead. Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Dio, ect.
Are my jam but this steals my heart. The Foo Fighters are LEDGENDS. Shane Hawkins and his fathers bond will never be broken
Love a reaction video when it comes from the heart. Beautiful comments and compliments. ❤
He hits that drums with so mutch power his drum stick explodes check out la show he killed it there to fly high Taylor
I’ve watched this performance several times. I even posted it to my Facebook page with the caption, “Shane Hawkins is a beast on drums.” Your reaction to it actually made me cry. Foo have always been in my top 5. Seeing them live is an experience you don’t easily forget. They’re so much fun!! I was fortunate to see them again in 2019 at Bourbon&Beyond..so grateful that I got to see Taylor before we lost him. What a tragedy. Having lost my own father at a young age, I know first hand that you never get over the loss. Ever. It’s hard not to feel that in some small way he chose substance over his love for his child. I’m 51 now and still find it hard to reconcile. Music is my therapy. Your reaction to this was deep, sensitive and loving. Amazingly, through the power of technology, I feel understood. ♥️
PS…Sound City is excellent!!
Wonderful heartfelt spiritual reaction. When you raised your hand while singing along (which I do when I truly feel the music). You had me
I tear up every time I watch this! went back and watched Studio 666 with the band last night and how Taylor is missed but Shane has his father watching over him now! I wish only good things for Shane and his family and the band!
This so emotional, it brings tears
What beautiful words . Thanks for this reaction
This makes me cry, can we look at rufus tayor playing with tyler
The Wembley concert should go down as one of the best of all time.
that fact that Dave has gone through two separate losses with Nirvana and FF. Just tragic all around. But Shane and his brother are great drummers in the making.
This was such a wonderful moment
Beautiful Track💯👍Vocal❤Stunning & Hot Sounds🎹🔥💃
Thank you for this...❤
❤️
Shane's father was playing through him that night.
Let him finish his education, goto college if he wants, but then...this young man is a perfect pic to carry on with the band.
I agree
Especially knowing Dave and Taylor
Seeming that Dave had to go through this with his best friend kurt I know it beyond hurt him to go through this again
Such a cool and powerful moment for Shane!
Would love see a reaction of Dayseeker Neon Grave
A bit off topic (or related to your intro for this video I should say) - I just discovered Sound City a few months ago, and I've probably watched it 10x so far with plans to rewatch often. Also love the Sonic Highways episodes and the Back & Forth documentary, as well as What Drives Us and the series with Dave's mom, From Cradle to Stage. So basically any documentary-type stuff that Dave does, I'm down for it. I grew up on the music created by all those artists he puts the spotlight on, b/c I'm a '65 baby with '50s brothers & Depression era parents.
I appreciate u sharing those docs. I watched from cradle to stage and Sound city and loved both!! Felt Dave did such a great job. It was so entertaining and interesting. I’m not familiar w the others u mentioned. Do u know where I can watch them? I’m also a baby of 65 😊 but love all music!
My husband (who is also a Shane) just looked over my shoulder and said, "Hey, it's the piano guy! I haven't seen him in forever!" I stepped away from UA-cam altogether for a while and haven't commented much since I started watching again because of how toxic so many people can be behind the anonymity of the internet, whether it's transphobic comments about my oldest kid, bashing me for loving and supporting her unconditionally (and no, I don't seek out controversial videos, but one music reaction channel I used to watch and enjoy decided to "do something different" and react positively to a far-right talking head "debating" his view that being transgender is not a real/legitimate thing and it's ridiculous to give anyone claiming to be trans equal rights), or dudebros who think they need to mansplain metal to me because it's obvious from my profile photo that I'm female. UA-cam really needs to add a feature that lets you block other users who are being assholes in the comments.
Anyway, I have been listening to Foo Fighters since the beginning and the death of Taylor was so sad. I lost my mom when I was 17, albeit after battling cancer for a year, not unexpectedly, but losing my mom right before I became an adult has kind of been the defining event of my life. I hope Taylor's wife and kids all have a great support system and people to talk to. You do heal, but the scars can be ugly. I was very impressed with Shane Hawkins' performance and this part of the tribute concert made me really emotional. I get where you're coming from with thinking it would be perfect if Shane could take over for his dad on the drums for FF, but I think he would be better off only doing special performances once in a while like this. He should enjoy being a kid and young adult without being tied down to constant touring with a group that, while I'm sure they love him like he's their own son, is much older and more experienced than he is and in a very different phase of life and careers. It would be really cool for him to form his own band sometime down the road, if that's something he wants to do.
And it wouldn't be one of my comments if I didn't give another plug for STARSET. Manifest (Live) to start with. I also know that you would love Bad Omens if you give them a listen. Their popularity has skyrocketed with the album they released in February (The Death of Peace of Mind) and they are going on their first headlining tour in November and December. All but four shows are sold out. Noah's vocals are top notch, definitely a contender for the best in the metalcore scene right now. Start with the title track from the album and I guarantee you will want to do more of their songs.
Agreed on Shane finding his own way. I’m sure there can’t be actual consideration to have this 16 yo boy join a band of mostly 50 yr olds, come on, right?
Did you see him kiss the drums before he started the solo at the end?´
I did not and that’s beautiful.
8:38 despite all the technical hurdles than one can certainly "Overcome" (1 more brilliant Foo Fighter song)... it would be like Life/Beauty incarnated! Foo Fighters - Cold Day in the Sun
Streets Of Fire?
Eddie & The Cruisers?
🎸🎥
🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Chrs shiflett spoke on a interview about Madeira a new album in the future there isn’t that many drummers that can fill Taylor’s shoes but there is a few and they where playing in la and London hope they do come back with Marie different drummers for different tours in the future
I've read many people advocating for Rufus Taylor. He definitely has the pedigree. If he's not playing with The Darkness he would be a great fit. Taylor Hawkins was his mentor and having Roger Taylor as your dad doesn't hurt.
Have reacted to queen somebody to love
February starr sir
500 😄
David please do a reaction video to "Nigh to Silence" by ERRA. It'll change your life.
Please do "street rat" by wolf & bear
Just like John Bonham and Jason Bonham.
Ear buds? Really? You're a musician!
So...lemme get this straight...you just watched and diagnosed this video...and you actually asked the question, "I dunno, is he really on the level?" Dude...he's 15 years old and quite possibly played the best ever live version this song, after his Dad has OD'd and he is playing in a tribute event? Only thing he's not on the level for is a 40 week tour because he still has to graduate Middle School. WTF is wrong with you? How did Dave get through it? Dave? That's what you're impressed by?
I mean, it was just a comment. My man
No, it would not be cool to make a 16 yr old the drummer! His frontal lobe isnt developed yet, look how taylor OD 20 yrs ago, via spoils of the road and how taylor said it was such a grueling gig. It would be cruel to put a kid into that.
Truth
Way to keep making it about you 🙄
One of the worst reactions i have seen on UA-cam.
What was so worse about it?
@@MusicSheddon't bother, there's no use wasting time with people writing that kind of comment smh
I don't know If you know this but in an interview dave said the foo fighters was a reincarnation of his version of nirvana after he lost Kurt because for those who don't know he was the lead drummer of nirvana
