I use unwanted shampoo to clean makeup brushes, sometimes I'll soak the bristles in a little olive oil and then use the "bad" shampoo to wash them and they come out like new!

A tip for CG conditioners that are too thin for you hair - use it as a lightweight leave in conditioner. Perfect for summer or fine hair, I’ve used conditioner as my leave in for a while and I wouldn’t use anything else.

The best hack I learned from you is mixing the curl cream or leave in with the gel. Not only it gives my curls a defined frizz free look but it saves a lot of bucks. Moreover it reduces the amount of product build-up as I'm using a 2 in 1 product. Thus I need to shampoo less. It's a great money saving and also curl saving hair hack. 😘😘

You look so beautiful, so glad to see you healthy and smiling ❤️❤️
    My must do’s are:
My hair is similar to yours, I’m a 2B to 3A depending on what part of my head you’re looking at. I Use flour sack towels. I get them in packs at target for cheap. They are better than microfiber or a t shirt for me.
I now put a little leave in when my hair is soaking wet and squish it in, then I plop for about 15 minutes. THEN I do my routine. I have been getting MUCH better clumping like this than when I was putting all my products into soaking wet hair.
I finger coil now and it’s been a game changer. I now have fat glossy ringlets after finger coiling and diffusing. Before I would have an occasional ringlet and a bunch of stringy pieces. You just have to make sure you twist your hair in the right direction. Your hair will tell you. If it is the wrong direction it will untwist itself. Finger coiling helped decrease the amount of stringy pieces that try to ruin my life lol
Lastly, my hair likes to collapse on itself and while it’s very poofy and volume isn’t an issue, root lift is. I started using bounce curl hair spray at a few spots and then I use a clip to lift my roots and this stuff is super strong. You have to be careful not to use too much. I spray a small amount onto my finger or a comb and put it at my root and then clip. My roots stay lifted all day like this.

Thank you Susie! Great video, as always!
To add to one of your hacks: When using things like "isitcg" or "curlsbot" to check and see if a product is CG approved, I only type a few of the ingredients (if I can't copy and paste the ingredients list from somewhere), then check. If it's CG at that point, I'll add the next few ingredients to the box, and then check again - I've wasted time in the past typing them all out only to find that one of the first ingredients was the one that wasn't approved!

Other people probably do this, but I have curls that tend to just collapse with any pressure and my hair is pretty long. So, when I pineapple my hair at night, I loosely secure the ends with a couple claw clips to prevent myself from laying on them. It works really well to make it so I barely have to wet my hair to refresh in the morning. I have always used my toilet to plop my hair! My bed is too tall for me to effectively do it. Glad I'm not alone! :)

    • @nonMuggle
      @nonMuggle 5 років тому +3

I do the claw clips, too! Having my hair in a loose bun like that also exposes less of my curls to friction (even on a satin pillowcase). For me, it's an all-around fix. 😉

Awesome tips! I got the Xtava diffuser and it was the same diameter as my old hair dryer. Fortunately a tip I found online was to get a 2” rubber pipe coupling at the hardware store. The metal clamps around it kept it firmly on. Also I saved the CGM products I was trying at first that I thought were “too heavy” and now I rotate them in. The SM hibiscus cowash was one of them! I add Suave clarifying and 3x water to my foaming hand wash pump.

LOVED this video! So helpful. I especially liked the hack for using shampoo as bubble bath. I never thought to use leftovers I don't like as soap, but it makes so much sense. I also use the hack you mentioned for volume, too. 😆
Another hair hack I've used for wash days where my hair doesn't turn out right is pulling all my hair up into a ponytail and pulling out a couple of curls that look okay to frame my face. With clean hair, it ends up looking like a ponytail I actually tried on rather than a third-day ponytail I'm trying to use to cover greasy roots.

Conditioner/hairmasks/creams I do not want in my hair: I use them in my foot bath, makes the feet very soft and easier to remove dead skin. I also put them on my super dry calves in the shower. I take my cheap little thrift store bathroom heater, put it on the counter with a bunched up t-shirt in front of it. I let my hair fall onto the shirt like I was going to plop, put the heater on Medium heat, close my eyes and sneak a few more minutes of pretend napping while the warm air gently dries my hair. The heater hits a bigger section of my hair, so I don't have to keep moving the dryer around, maybe only turn my head once or twice. I have seen other people do this as well, especially in a thread about how bending over to dry your hair is hard on your back.

@@elexis3728 if you side part your hair try flipping your hair from side to side so that it learns to dry both ways. I mostly keep it to the opposite side then the one I wear because it creates more lift. I try not to use my hands to make the parts, just throw your head over to that side and let the curls fall where they like. If I air dry I keep it to one side for 15 minutes then flip, wait 15 minutes then flip back. If I defuse I flip it and defuse the roots from both sides

Wonderful list Susie! My hack is when I do not want to spend time the next morning with my hair, I shower/style and put loads of gel in my hair and diffuse but do not scrunch out the crunch. I have 3 hacks! I've tried devacurl products and they are just too lightweight for my hair. I looooove Cantu products that are just too heavy. I use the leave-in conditioner and the curl activator cream. I just mix each one with water in a spray bottle and spray my wet hair with them and they work great! Not too heavy, not too light! My second hack... I love the LA Looks extreme sport gel but I tend to be heavy handed 😆. I squeeze it into a little 4 oz bell canning jar and then just dip w fingers in and spread it in my hands to 'pray' it into each section of my hair! I get a light crunch the scrunches out really easy with my 3rd hack... I scrunch the crunch with fractionated coconut oil sprayed into my hands.eaves my hair super shiny and super soft!

I have 2a hair and the Shea Moisture conditioner you showed is actually my favorite :P I use it as a cowash and also as a final conditioner after I've deep conditioned and shampood.
I also plop on the toilet! My bed is not the correct height to plop on so I've always done it that way :)

Thanks for the tips! You can also run your coil hair tie under hot water for a seconds to reshape/shrink them :)

Too many reasons in this video why I have loved your channel! You're realness being right at the top! Just laughed out loud at you with the kitchen strainer on your head. I would totally do something like that if I needed to! And I also plop on the toilet! But your notes and the way you described them cracked me up! There was one too many arguments about the sticky, slippery trail I left dripping down the hallway leading from the bathroom to the bedroom, which is how I began plopping on the toilet myself! Seriously Susie, this video made me smile just seeing what a departure it is from your end of January video where you were so very sad. I'm glad you're healing and getting back to life a little bit! ❤️ I hope your new computer is working out much better for you too! Look at you at almost 60K subs already. You've earned every one! Cheers! 😊

Using the strainer right now as I watch ur video 😂 I have diffuser but I find using a big stariner reduces frizz upto great extent. Also I use my non CG shampoo to wash my make up brushes and my dog's towel as its milder than detergent. You can also use it to clean bathroom after washing hair, it will get rid of slippery floor and you are not wasting your shampoo

If there are any European curly girls that, like me, are obsessed with the Xtava Black Orchid diffuser but are looking for a blow-dryer that will fit, I got in stores to try it and the "Calor Pro Signature moteur AC" (CV7833C0 if you want the exact reference) works like a charm without having to remove the inner ring ! I love this diffuser and the blow-dryer is really nice, unlike my previous one, the first warm setting isn't too warm to be blasted on my roots and there is a cold setting on top of the cool shot button. (Plus I got it for just under €40 which is pretty affordable in my book)

Can you do an updated curly girl products video? I have bought a lot of products that someone said was curly girl approved but turned out not to be. But I do trust you!!

I wondered if you had any tips/videos on safe hairstyles to wear when you have to put your hair up? I’m a nurse as well and I have to get it away from the face while at work. Thanks for all of the tips!

I'm new to the CGM method that's why I still don't have some tools to use for my curly hair, but what I do when the top of my head is kinda flat is I use a chopstick to gently lift the roots. Btw, thanks for this video I learned a lot! 😊❤️

Susie I love your videos! I think my hair is similar to yours, and I find your tips etc so helpful. I also "plop on the toilet" but for me its because it's a bit lower than the bed and I have a bad back so I find it easier. It would be good to find a video about CGM for people with bad backs! (Future topic?!)

I use old shampoo (with sulfates) to clean the bath tub. Works great! Cut hair elastics from pantyhose or tights. Just snip across the leg, making circles. They are easy on hair and easy to take out.I'm loving Cantu Curl Activator and Cantu Define/Shine Custard right now. When I don't have time to wash my hair (or have 2nd, 3rd, 4th day hair) I just wet my hands, add a tiny bit of Curl Activator, rub it together, and run it over my hair with praying hands. I might do this 2 or 3 times depending on how frizzy or flat it is. It redefines my curls wonderfully.Use a hair pick under curls, on scalp to fluff up hair when it's flat.I LOVED your curly hacks today! Thanks.

I got my strainer at the dollar store. I have the Black Orchid diffuser, but it's really large to travel with, so I travel with the strainer and it works great. Plus you can use those little hair dryers at the hotel and not have to bring your own. Works out great all-around.

Cheryl Anne, I have the Black Orchid, too, and I admit that it’s cumbersome for me. I feel like my arm isn’t long enough! But I’m super pumped because I have an “OXO” brand strainer that will work great! I plan to give it a test drive tomorrow.

One hack I use is sleeping in a gel cast pineapple versus the overnight curls method I always sleep on a satin pillow case so the cast pretty much stays in tact

Hey, I thought you were getting a new diffuser for Christmas! I had quite a few non-curly girl products sitting around gathering dust for the past 8 months. I heard from someone that our local St. Vincent de Paul resale store accepted used products for resale so I packaged everything up and off it went. Made me feel good that I didn't have to throw it away since I spent so much money on it. I put my bath towel on top of the toilet seat and then put my t-shirt on top of that. Thanks for the tip about using the Denman brush for those crinkly ends. That brush has to be good for something, right?

I've been doing the conditioner-as-shaving-cream hack for years with conditioners that I don't like! It works really well :) I guess the only other things I do are steaming my hair in the shower rather than spritzing it with water to refresh (I've tried both, and found the shower works better) on 2nd/3rd/4th day hair. Also with a gel that I found dried too sticky on my hair, I've started dilluting it a bit with water before applying, and it's working out great so far. It doesn't give strong hold, obvs, so won't be a good hack for anyone who likes their gels to form a super hard cast, but for my hair-type (2c/3a, low porosity, medium density, medium thickness) it's fine.

I use a jacko-net when I plop my hair overnight after washing it. Helps with the drying time, because it has little holes in it :)
