I’m a licensed stylist who has wavy hair on a good day lol may I just say this was the most informative and captivating video I’ve seen yet online for curly haired people. I’ve watched it from start to finish and in no way have hair even a smidge close to this! Your hair is literally what I’ve always dreamed of having! Absolutely gorgeous!

Raye Webber I feel you. My natural texture is like a poofier version of the beachy waves everyone’s been into lately. I’d die for my hair to be even like her “before” even just every once in a while.

why is having curly hair so COMPLICATED

    • @iamnotmyhandle

      Because it is a privilege.

    • @roxanne1951

Because there are so many different types of curly hair. Because without all the complicated processes most of us just have a fuzzy mess with no curl definition. Because curly hair basically sucks. I grew up up in the 60s before all the curly hair products.

@@godblessamericamyhomesweet1094 I take it you don't have curly hair. Well...if us curly girls can survive being shamed about our "wild and crazy" curls and living in a world that for decades has promoted straight hair as the beauty standard, then you'll be okay.

    • @godblessamericamyhomesweet1094

@@iamnotmyhandle Um, it was a compliment, sorry. My hair is so curly and living in the south with 100+ temps and what feels like 1000% humidity, I had long given up on it and have spent the last decade in a pony tail. In the last 2 weeks I've been watching these videos and actually TRYING to make my hair look like less of a frizzy mess, only to be met at the front door with torrential rain and a literal sauna outside. I think you know how depressing that can be. On top of that, the Aveda products I finally tried turned my hair to straw, and the deva curl after that turned it into grease. Now I have a greasy straw disaster going on, which makes the tropical storm we lived with just the cherry on top of a horrendous start to "bettering" my hair. Having to sit through work looking like a wet hay bail isnt exactly a fun life experiencr. When you said "Its a privilege" it was a compliment and made me feel like I need to stop being such a curmudgeon and keep trying, and hopeful that ONE day maybe something will work, and I will be able to actually wear my hair down for the first time without the use of a straightener. Hopefully your situation is better. God bless.

I love that you’re applying logic and reason to your choice of products. I really learned a lot from your videos. Before your channel I thought that I should go protein free for low porosity hair but now I see how you assess the condition of your hair and apply products accordingly. Looking forward to more videos from you!

I came across this video because i’m struggling with my hair right now. My texture and curl pattern have changed DRASTICALLY over the past year, and i’m learning what is needed for my hair type and why. There are still many things i don’t know yet (which i thought i did) but experimenting with new products gets confusing and expensive. Could you make a video in the future going in depth what forms of protein in hair products there are, when to use leave-in conditioners, styling creams, gels, according to your hair type? Sometimes i feel overwhelmed doing research on what best suits my hair, using minimal products. Love the curls btw!

Maybe in the mean time I can point you in the direction of someone similar so you can learn from their experience?

People want the information you provide to be concise and to the point yet not dry. I guess it’s a fine line but worth working on a happy medium.

However, what protein styles would u use if you felt you needed them? I just deep conditioned my hair with Deva Curl Deep Sea Repair, which contains protein, but at 50% dry, do not see much cur formation. Would I need to use a protein styler or leave in? I get to the cast part - not really sure how much gel or how hard I need to get it yet - then not sure how to un-cast. So it's dry, curly, has a cast and then what? I don't know how to uncast without ending up frizzy. I'm only a week in to CG so maybe my hair is still dumb? Like last night I took my hair out of my plopp and the curls where beautiful. They where about 60-70% dry . I applied a little bit of gel gently to my hair and then I diffuser for about 5-10 minutes on low heat and in the lowest setting( about 85-95% dry). My hair came out beautifully. After an hour I look them in the mirror ( I had gone out to the library for studying exposing my self to humidity and wearing my jackets hood because of the cold ) and my curls were stretched out and really frizzy . I'm thinking that might be the gel that I'm using cause it has medium hold or is it the application method? (I put on my styling products on soaking wet hair with praying hands technique and then I'm scratching out the extra water . After I plopp for about 20-30 minutes and apply my stylers again .

@@ibsqueen Are your stylers sulfate and silicone free? Really really check the ingredients because sometimes they say they aren't and silicones are the first thing on the list. I might go in with a sulfate shampoo and really make sure that all the gunk is out of your hair and then go back to sulfate/silicone free. If you're sulfate free but not fully silicone free you get a lot of buildup and it weighs your hair down. That's what it was for me at least.

I spritzmy hair with Deva Curl Mist-er Right... it’s lavender oil and water and it moisturizes and wets my hair just enough between washes that if I don’t mess with it too much (maybe just twirling around my finger the really straggly bits) during the air drying time right after, it helps my curls to re-form and have a tiny bit of hold/moisture to keep their shape for another day. Remember I am not fully re-wetting my hair, just dampening it enough that my curls get their groove back.

I really appreciate you walking through the thought processes that just seem like magic sometimes. I'm curious to try some of these techniques, but some things you mentioned made me curious. What is a type of product or specific product you would recommend to add protein to hair that lasts? I am very lazy and can guarantee I don't/won't frequently style my hair.

    Awesome vid! Love the grays!!!
I have low porosity hair but a ton of highlights which I’m told are high porosity...:-/
Think I should do high porosity products but, damn, your hair looks sooo good wanna do your stuff! Have seen your hair look better and better (ie:ringlets) over the last few months of me embarking on this curl journey and watching uTube curlies. My hair looks exactly like yours when brushed and just a few ringlets around my face now. Would love to get to all ringlets AND let the gray come in.

From the time you put the aussie in and when you came back to the camera did you fluff it out at all or did it just dry that way? I have spiral curly hair and never use gel or hair spray so I'm kind of hesitant to to use a product that would dry out my hair. I normally use the Curl Envy but I dont think it's working anymore.

Josefin Svedberg hairstylist here. I think your hair is fine. The reason ends don’t curl sometimes is because they are overworked and it’s the oldest hair! Trimming helps and a good product regimen. Lots of naturally curly or wavy ppl have flat hair on top. I have one client that’s straight all over and just curly at the nape! Hair is interesting lol.

the reason why your hair is frizzy is because it needs moisture for example when you get out if the shower put in a styler silicone, parabens, sulfate free and that will lock in all the water to make your hair less frizzy you can get Cantu curler activator it smells so good and its a good way to start out!

I love this video. I’m still a little confused on protein etc. I’d love a quiz I could take to find what my hair needs because I’m starting to believe it just is the way it is and I can’t change it. I tried an aphogee protein treatment once and didn’t really see results but my hair is very moisturized and can get weighed down by products. It’s less and less curly as I get older and harder to get definition and volume. definitely going to have to look at your styling routine. I don’t usually apply product half way through. Then again I’m usually wash and out the door.
