These are my absolute favorite types of videos! I soooo appreciate that you've incorporated both the trial and error portion, and also the "bare bones" of the outfit, because way too often in my own life, that's where I stop - just the bare bones - so no wonder I get bored and dissatisfied with my closet! The way you transform the basics into an amazing outfit is perfection. This whole series is phenomenal. Thanks so much.
I am with you! These are my favorites too. I wish we could put pictures in the comments. It would be so fun to see all the different ways everyone uses the inspiration to make their own unique and creative outfits.
I 💯 agree. It so motto takes inspiration and go and play a dress up with your closet, be creative and think outside the box. Create your own master outfit!
Denim layering piece has been a game changer for me. I had a denim jacket living in my closet unworn for years. The sleeves were an odd 3/4 length and as a jacket it was a little too fitted to wear over almost anything. It was headed to my donation pile but then it crossed paths with my sewing shears. I lopped off the sleeves at the shoulder seam. I left the edge raw. In the 3 years since, it has become a staple in my wardrobe. I wear it solo buttoned up in the summer, layered under suit blazers to relax a too formal look without the bulk of denim sleeves, and as a layer of warmth over light weight shirts as needed. When I travel, it almost always finds a spot in my suitcase or as part of a travel outfit layer to smarten up lounge-wear or yoga pants on route. If I ever lost it, I'd get out my shears again and beat a path to a resale site to find a replacement. I have a few "dickey" jackets from Veronica Beard and they have a denim zip-in dickey for $200 that never goes on sale. My DIY denim jacket-vest is a wonderful dupe of the look, less the $200 which I'll happily keep. Love your SYC videos. Please keep them coming.
OMG, I’m going to get my denim jacket out of my donation bin!!!! Perfect. I Actually purchased a light denim vest mini mini mini years ago. I’m still hanging onto it. However the wash it’s just not one that works with me. But the wash denim jacket that I was going to give away is my favorite. Thank you so much for this! I love our community and that we can share useful tips.
I know I already commented below but I hadn’t actually finished reading your post. I just got a Veronica beard blazer on resale from real real for less than 200 bucks with the tags on it that say 700. What is score right? Anyway I’m definitely gonna put my denim vest under that. Brilliant! I don’t need those dickies.
@@erikahalford Great score on the VB on resale. I have a few, but got them on super discount clearance when the pandemic just started and we all were buying sweat pants, not expensive blazers. I think my purchases were an act of faith that this couldn't be forever. Little did I know how long it might take to re-emerge to wearing street style again without the sweat pants. I don't think those discount days will return soon for retail, but resale is the best! Love this community.
That last look really worked well with the black tights added for winter. It just made more sense for the winter with the double-layered coats. To wear the dress in the spring/summer just remove the black blazer, keep the denim jacket, won't need the tights, and wear a nude heel or sandal. The dress was so pretty belted that way.
Your interpretation of the flowy prairie dress with a very tailored blazer was BETTER than the Veronica Beard inspiration. (It doesn't hurt that you have those killer legs that you obviously work hard on to achieve, but still...the proportions of your look are edgier and cleverer.)
It's comforting to know that you also sometimes struggle to style an item in your wardrobe. That flouncy babydoll dress works now. I wouldn't have necessarily understood how it could substitute for the longer dress, so you're educating me. Thanks.
Hi Shirley! I'm so glad this was helpful for you! And yes - I personally think it's a giant myth that stylists and influencer just put something together right away and it looks good lol
You are on the right track, some of the other fashion videos I have e seen are very much the same boring new items rather than how to style the clothing.
I really like how you took the dress and styled it, with the black tights even at 56 I could get away with it. I think that is my favorite of the 3 solely because you styled a piece that has been more challenging!
Alyssa , you killed all 3 styles.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I thought you may be able to use your faux leather leggings in the all black outfit as well. You were inspirational yourself. Thank YOU.
I've been looking for some slow fashion advice and found your channel. You are such a ray of sunshine in the world of people doing shein hauls and buying clothes for an instagram picture. Thank you! I am learning so much from you.
Ciao Alyssa! Your looks are always a hit. My favorite is the dress look even tho I am 68. 🤣 That tuxedo jacket is a keeper! So versatile. Sunday is Alyssa day! You are so creative and inspirational. Love love love you!!🥰 XOXO
I would have never thought to wear denim under that blazer. I rushed to my closet and pulled out a my denim vest and very similar blazer, and BAM! I love the look. Now to try it with various dresses/skirts to create my look. Thank you!😘
Janet, do you have leather, or faux leather, or coated denim? Something like that might be fantastic. Maybe with a pretty girly sweater or blouse? Wish I could see what your up too. Second Sundays are my favorite. So inspiring.
The last style was stunning. Those kinds of dresses are my style but I have wanted ways to dress them up more. It looked amazing with tights or without. I might have to try something similar
Your shorter floral dress looks so much better than the long maxi dress in the inspiration pic - great style there. I like it best w/o the belt. The belt kind of says 'trying too hard".
Why is it that whenever you do these 'inspiration' videos that you always style better than the person you are inspired by? You indeed are our inspiration. Love these videos. Have a great week Alyssa x
I’ve started shopping my closet and discovered clothes I have not worn in awhile. I also gotten in the habit of creating outfits from watching this channel.
I love the way you think aloud about the outfits telling us what you think works or doesn’t work and why. I have clothes from years ago and often try to use them in a new way. I get ideas from you and am so grateful you teach us how to use the old in fresh ways. Please do more of these videos: a picture you want to copy and how you put it together from your closet. I LOVE IT. THANK YOU!
Love this video! Such a great guide to enjoying inspiration without being sucked in to buying more and more. I was surprised by how much I liked the last look- I haven't worn dresses in a very long time because I don't relate to the soft feminine look, but I think with this kind of look it might actually work for me. Please do more of these!
I have a dress in that same style in my wardrobe that I have yet to wear for the spring season (mid-length with this cinched-in detailing around the waist and wrists), so this video actually helped me to look at styling it from a different perspective. Thank you for the inspiration, Alyssa! 😊❤
I also love the longer videos, which show more possibilities. I love listening to your analysis, it really shows such creativity, how the inspiration can be the starting point to several more ideas. 💜 I also love short hemlines and I am 51! If it suits you and you love it, wear it.
So great - I don’t wear skirts and I live in a warmer climate so my outfit would be black blazer, tencel/chambray shirt to reduce bulk, black and white zebra patterned shirt, black cropped pants and high boots--I love your videos and how you break down the elements so we can apply our own versions ❤
I’ve admired those Veronica beard blazers for years…. Never would have thought of wearing my denim jacket under one of my blazers! Thanks, great looks today.
I’ve literally been binge watching your videos recently. I have more of a modern bohemian style. I think I’ve been hesitant to really dive into my style fully. Watching your tips are really helping me reimagine my closet and identify what I am naturally drawn to. I find I don’t need a lot in my wardrobe. I just need things that work. So making new outfits out of old clothes is so key. Love your channel!
This is so weird but i just saw a Veronica Beard outfit the other day on Insta and though OMG! an oversized blazer over a denim jacket! What a great idea!!! Tried it and I love it but didn't think to try with a dress. I will now tho'. Gorgeous looks and great styling as always Alyssa x
I never thought to layer jackets either. This spring I went to NYC to pick up a pair of shoes for a friend at Dior. I don’t shop there. I got out of my car and realized I had two different shoes on. I happened to have parked in front of Zadig and Voltaire. I found a great tan trench 70 percent off. The sales girl told me to try my leather jacket under it. I thought she was nuts!!!!! But she was right. It just looks so super fly. With a white sneaker! Yummmy. Wish I could see your take on it.
Yep, ditto on the denim vest idea from a fav snug jean jacket -- have had mine for several years and love layering with it. But now, Alyssa, I want a black puffer as I love all black outfits too! lol
@couponnut2 same! I went to goodwill this evening to begin my treasure hunt for a black puffer! They should be on sale or going on sale as stores are putting out spring and summer now. I’ve been seeing shorts on the racks. We should comment to each other if we see something on sale. Or maybe we can trade items? My only social media is UA-cam and Pinterest. I’m sure there are groups on other platforms. I don’t think I want to go back to all the social media though. I wonder if there is a way for Alyssa to do a live that would facilitate such a thing? I’m not too familiar with how this stuff works.
Everything looked fantastic! I especially loved the third look. If you're still looking for ideas on inspiration, I would like to suggest Jenny Walton.
Loved this and especially appreciated seeing the tights at the end because I was wondering...wouldn't she be super warm on top with denim and a blazer and wouldn't her knees be freezing??? Haha! Glad to see this. I have all those pieces (well a brown floral dress) so am anxious to try this one. Thanks again...I love these inspiration videos!
CareersbyJen, I wish I could see how you express your personal style using both the inspiration of the original photo and the variation Alyssa created. I’ll be doing the same. I have both a denim jacket and a denim vest. I’m excited to try the vest. I’ve had it forever and I love it. But I am extremely challenged when it comes to using the vest in outfits. Good inspiration!
@@erikahalford yes! A vest would work very well. I don't have one but I do have a denim shirt and a jacket. Fun stuff! Wishing you all sorts of inspiration too as we learn from Alyssa. 😊
Alyssa-the great thing about Veronica Beard blazers are that you can buy "dickeys" (inserts?) that you can zip into the blazer. That denim jacket is an insert; no bulk. I think it really extends the wearing options of blazers.
Great looks, very inspiring! If the denim jacket is too thick, you could replace it with a chambray shirt or a denim dress that buttons at the front. And for the black puffer coat outfit, maybe chain necklaces could bring more metal or a chain strap purse. Always great to see style translated for eastern Canada.
Right away I can do the first two and will attempt the third one. Unbuttoning the blouse was genius. I don’t do a lot of black, but have a navy puffer. Can’t wait to try that one!
You nailed the first look. I enjoyed the other looks but I especially liked when you put the tights with the dress. I was thinking it would be too cold to wear otherwise. Thanks for a great video.
Unexpectedly, the silver zipper on your puffer coat became such a architectural feature to me in the all black look. I thought it looks even better than the inspiration.
The looks in this video are awesome! My favs were the all black with the puffer jacket and the dress layered with denim and the blazer!! Awesome, awesome!! One thing too: never underestimate the value of a nice subtle belt to add that little something-something to an outfit. When you added the belt to each look, I thought it really elevated the look in a simple yet powerful way that it wouldn't have without it. Love this video! I find your videos are always inspiring in one way or another!
I do the denim layering! I have a vintage denim vest (faded black) that I really like under jackets. I haven’t tried it with a blazer, but perhaps I will now. And I love the puffer jacket look! ❤️
I have also a dress with small flowers, but I have never worn it with a jeans jacket and a blazer. The three pieces I have already for years. I have to try to wear it together. It will really be a new look and modern look for me. Thanks for this inspiration.
Hi Alyssa - all the outfits were a hit - the all black look is my favourite, I am more likely to elevate a puffer than dress it down 👍🏽👍🏽- I have a number of long skirts (both straight and with volume) and my style self challenge is to make daytime cool - so the look by Veronica Beard is a nice inspiration - Cheers!!!
Thank You. Thank You for inspiring me with the flouncy dress jean jacket blazer combo. I recently went out of my comfort zone, buying a frilly dress similar to yours but came very close to getting rid of it. After watching this video, I styled it with a blazer that I had not worn in ages.
First let me say “I love your channel and your approach to fashion. I am trying hard to adapt to the rules of slow fashion again. I say again because when I started out as young teacher many years ago the look was extremely professional as compared to the hybrid look of today. I had a good basic wardrobe and I could see. This gave me a myriad of look options on my new, but a little on the meager side, salary
I love these types of videos from you. All of these are great options, and I will be keeping them in mind when I need to come up with a casual style. I like the style of the dress with the boots, jean jacket under a blazer. Close next was the other look that was the most dead on for me was the blazer with wide leg jeans. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
Such a great video! It so motto takes inspiration and go and play a dress up with your closet, be creative and think outside the box. Create your own master outfit!
You make assembling personal style so ACCESSIBLE!! And I've also been using Nili Lotan silhouettes as my inspo for outfits--lovely lines! Thank you for this video ❤️❤️❤️
I wonder if a denim shirt would work instead of the jacket. It would be thinner and make layering easier. I have a chambray shirt that I may try to style like this instead of a denim jacket. Either way you always do a great job of showing us how to make our wardrobes work for us Thank you!
All very accessible looks from my closet. Love the dress look. I have several dresses I want to wear more. This gives me some ideas for styling them. Thank you
This was FANTASTIC Alyssa, I tuned back in to your Chanel after a bit of a break looking for ideas for capsule wardrobes for my 4 month stay in France and voila….you have a video for your 3 months in Portugal!!! Addicted again to your amazing way of thinking. Bon-voyage!!!!
yes!!! I adore all the videos thus far! Definitely up my alley! The versatility and wearability of it all! the layering is something I always look to do! Love it!
The way you styled the dress was perfect. I thought the inspiration piece was just a little much with the long skirt, etc. It reminded me of dressing for "modesty" as the highest goal- too covered up. But with the shorter skirt, it was really cute! I did think that it might be too cold in the winter, so I'm glad you showed it with the tights and turtleneck, too.
Your choices and descriptions are exquisite ... I love seeing your try on process, and how you tweek the details... I imagined also belting over the buttoned blazer in the first look .. thank you for the inspiration 💕

I do the denim layering! I have a vintage denim vest (faded black) that I really like under jackets. I haven’t tried it with a blazer, but perhaps I will now. And I love the puffer jacket look! ❤️
yes! Give it a go! Thanks for watching Christina! xx
Excelente!!! I loved the way She explains every look.
The dress outfit looks great!
Thank you Kelly! xx
I have also a dress with small flowers, but I have never worn it with a jeans jacket and a blazer. The three pieces I have already for years. I have to try to wear it together. It will really be a new look and modern look for me. Thanks for this inspiration.
Blazer, dress, boots look. EPIC! 🤩
Absolutely love what you did with the dress at the end, you look gorgeous in it xx
thank you Tabitha! xx
Glad you liked them Andrea! xx
I love all those looks! I really need invest in a blazer
The intro with dress and white socks🤣 thats why we love Alyssa
Well done...again! Very inspiring!
Absolutely LOVED this video. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
So glad! xx
I'm so glad you like the channel Norma! xx
It’s a hit !!!!! Great outfits! Got something similar at home for these gonna do my own version next week!
Nailed them! Great idea to elevate a puffer into a monochromatic outfit.
Such a great video! It so motto takes inspiration and go and play a dress up with your closet, be creative and think outside the box. Create your own master outfit!
Loved every single outfit u created!!:). Infect I liked your better then the model’s 😍. Thank u for this video.
Loved all of these. Totally inspired. Thanks Alyssa.
You make assembling personal style so ACCESSIBLE!! And I've also been using Nili Lotan silhouettes as my inspo for outfits--lovely lines! Thank you for this video ❤️❤️❤️
What a compliment - THANK YOU! yes, lots of inspo over there! xx
I wonder if a denim shirt would work instead of the jacket. It would be thinner and make layering easier. I have a chambray shirt that I may try to style like this instead of a denim jacket. Either way you always do a great job of showing us how to make our wardrobes work for us Thank you!
yes! I thought of that too!
Love it!
Great video, Alissa! I loved the inspirations.
Great outfits! You could also put a denim button up that you leave open underneath the blazer for less bulk. Great video as usual! Thnx!
I'm so happy I found your channel. :) You're so cute and fun!
Thank you Kelsey for the kind words! xx
She really is!
Your choices and descriptions are exquisite ... I love seeing your try on process, and how you tweek the details... I imagined also belting over the buttoned blazer in the first look .. thank you for the inspiration 💕
