    These are my absolute favorite types of videos! I soooo appreciate that you've incorporated both the trial and error portion, and also the "bare bones" of the outfit, because way too often in my own life, that's where I stop - just the bare bones - so no wonder I get bored and dissatisfied with my closet! The way you transform the basics into an amazing outfit is perfection. This whole series is phenomenal. Thanks so much.

    Denim layering piece has been a game changer for me. I had a denim jacket living in my closet unworn for years. The sleeves were an odd 3/4 length and as a jacket it was a little too fitted to wear over almost anything. It was headed to my donation pile but then it crossed paths with my sewing shears. I lopped off the sleeves at the shoulder seam. I left the edge raw. In the 3 years since, it has become a staple in my wardrobe. I wear it solo buttoned up in the summer, layered under suit blazers to relax a too formal look without the bulk of denim sleeves, and as a layer of warmth over light weight shirts as needed. When I travel, it almost always finds a spot in my suitcase or as part of a travel outfit layer to smarten up lounge-wear or yoga pants on route. If I ever lost it, I'd get out my shears again and beat a path to a resale site to find a replacement.
    I have a few "dickey" jackets from Veronica Beard and they have a denim zip-in dickey for $200 that never goes on sale. My DIY denim jacket-vest is a wonderful dupe of the look, less the $200 which I'll happily keep.
    Love your SYC videos. Please keep them coming.

      OMG, I’m going to get my denim jacket out of my donation bin!!!! Perfect. I Actually purchased a light denim vest mini mini mini years ago. I’m still hanging onto it. However the wash it’s just not one that works with me. But the wash denim jacket that I was going to give away is my favorite. Thank you so much for this! I love our community and that we can share useful tips.

      I know I already commented below but I hadn’t actually finished reading your post. I just got a Veronica beard blazer on resale from real real for less than 200 bucks with the tags on it that say 700. What is score right? Anyway I’m definitely gonna put my denim vest under that. Brilliant! I don’t need those dickies.

      @@erikahalford Great score on the VB on resale. I have a few, but got them on super discount clearance when the pandemic just started and we all were buying sweat pants, not expensive blazers. I think my purchases were an act of faith that this couldn't be forever. Little did I know how long it might take to re-emerge to wearing street style again without the sweat pants. I don't think those discount days will return soon for retail, but resale is the best! Love this community.

    Your interpretation of the flowy prairie dress with a very tailored blazer was BETTER than the Veronica Beard inspiration. (It doesn't hurt that you have those killer legs that you obviously work hard on to achieve, but still...the proportions of your look are edgier and cleverer.)

    love that last look. unfortunately, being of a "certain age" DOES matter for this one for ME only. no way at 65 do i feel that is appropriate. but for you younger ladies, you look fabulous....yes, i wear shorts (longer) and i do have several skorts for when i walk my dogs or for running in (if i ever get back to doing that. i don't know...maybe it is just me. it is just the same for unbuttoning the shirt like that. lol. yep...i know. i have mentioned this before. my takeaway, though, is that i love how you break down the elements. it helps us to focus on what "things" to play with when mixing and matching. ps hope you are enjoying portugal!

      I am 53 and still feel comfortable in short skirts and dresses but now I have leggings and big boots and long sleeves with sweaters over so not so much skin showing, it’s not because of any rules about age it’s more how comfortable I feel, I still wear shorts in summer but maybe not ‘in town’ xx

    • @sherikennedy4117
      @sherikennedy4117 2 роки тому +6

      @@indiabilly exactly, my dear! i do the same. i do not feel there are any "rules" either about age...it is a PERSONAL thing. as i keep saying for ME ONLY this showing of all the skin at my "certain age" is not appropriate FOR ME. but yes...i do wear my skorts or shorter dresses with leggings now and feel it is very fashion forward. my point was not about rules and aging and what terms we use to describe ourselves. my feeling about the video is that i personally take away from it the "rules" or fashion "suggestions" such as alyssa mentioned with the oversized and boxy with oversized and boxy is not the normal thing one would do and have it look good. but by tweaking certain things...a button unbuttoned here, a belt there, color blocking, monochrome, etc....THOSE are the things i think are ageless and timeless! and btw...iris apfel is my spirit animal just so you all do not think i am stodgy and buttoned up. and the whole slow fashion thing...big fan.

    The last look with the dress is my favorite! To shorten the dress hemline with a belt is genius. It gives that cool bad-ass vibe and makes your toned legs longer. I was worrying about being too warm on the top and too cold on the bottom. Then you added leggings and overcoat, it is perfect for cold weather! It is indeed very you.

  • @pajamamama5965

    That last look really worked well with the black tights added for winter. It just made more sense for the winter with the double-layered coats. To wear the dress in the spring/summer just remove the black blazer, keep the denim jacket, won't need the tights, and wear a nude heel or sandal. The dress was so pretty belted that way.

    Love the look with the dress, and the way you styled it. The denim jacket under the jacket is genius!

    I have a dress in that same style in my wardrobe that I have yet to wear for the spring season (mid-length with this cinched-in detailing around the waist and wrists), so this video actually helped me to look at styling it from a different perspective. Thank you for the inspiration, Alyssa! 😊❤

    The way you styled the dress was perfect. I thought the inspiration piece was just a little much with the long skirt, etc. It reminded me of dressing for "modesty" as the highest goal- too covered up. But with the shorter skirt, it was really cute! I did think that it might be too cold in the winter, so I'm glad you showed it with the tights and turtleneck, too.

    The first and third looks are definitely a hit! You look much better than the models! The zadig Voltaire is not quite as cool, I think the model looked better on this one, but your puffer is cool too 😉

    I think these are my favorite videos, when you create a whole outfit from an inspiration. I've noticed that the first 4:30 mn of your video, and all the sections filmed in the same spot, seem to have been filmed in quick motion - like 1.1 or 1.2 speed. Your voice is higher pitched than usual, the movements are quicker, it's a bit weird. You sound like yourself again when you start putting together the first outfit. Maybe a setting on your camera?

    Right away I can do the first two and will attempt the third one. Unbuttoning the blouse was genius. I don’t do a lot of black, but have a navy puffer. Can’t wait to try that one!

    I have also a dress with small flowers, but I have never worn it with a jeans jacket and a blazer. The three pieces I have already for years. I have to try to wear it together. It will really be a new look and modern look for me. Thanks for this inspiration.

    I wonder if a denim shirt would work instead of the jacket. It would be thinner and make layering easier. I have a chambray shirt that I may try to style like this instead of a denim jacket. Either way you always do a great job of showing us how to make our wardrobes work for us Thank you!

    I really enjoy your videos and the concept that you promote! My only request is that you choose to have ads play somewhat less frequently. I totally understand the desire to monetize the content and have an ad here and there. But this video in particular was excessive with so many ads that it became too distracting. I love the channel and content, and would love to continue watching and subscribing, that is, if the frequency of ads becomes more reasonable.

    Hit, hit HIT! I like the dress with the tights --- for me anyway, but looks great on you both ways. Could you have used a denim shirt instead of the denim jacket for less bulk under the jacket? I wonder. Thanks!

    • @AlyssaBeltempo
      @AlyssaBeltempo  2 роки тому +1

      absolutely! My denim shirt is very light and doesnt have a lot of structure so I worried it would have disappeared under the blazer which is why i stuck with the jacket for this one :)

    CIAO Alyssa, me, myself, always fight with my inner conflict styling dresses, like a normal lady (hearing my mom's voices, be more feminine😵) but, I'll have to try on white a pretty dress like yours and style it very confident😎 I like how it looks on you👏

    I made a discovery that I want to share. Feedback would be awesome. I was in the shop your closet archives. There was one where Alyssa layered a thin turtleneck under a chunky sweater to mimic a chunky turtleneck. Last week I was trying to get the chunky turtleneck vibe and it just wasn’t working. I went into my bin of items to donate and found a pair of knit black pants. I cut a portion of one leg and after some fluffing and playing had the PERFECT black turtleneck. Has anyone tried this? Would you try it? Any tips for refining this? Did I break the slow fashion rules and put myself in the restyling category now? so curious.

      Have not tried this, but it's a promising idea. I'd run a line of bias tape on the raw knit edge to keep it from fraying from wear or washing. A stretch bias tape might be needed. Thank you for sharing your idea!

    • @AlyssaBeltempo
      @AlyssaBeltempo  2 роки тому +2

      That is such a creative idea!! I would check out @PatMcCullough's tip below!

    • @erikahalford

      @@patmccullough5885 smart! I suppose one could tape or glue or even put in a few hand stitches depending on the fabric and the person. Since it actually worked, I think I will take your advice and use the tape so I can wear it again. AND, it adds more warmth is you like something around your neck. Not everyone does. I found a light and VERY tight black turtleneck dress that I’ve had for years. I think I might cut it into a shirt so I can have a chunky turtle neck and and a lighter, thinner one as well. I really do value this community. We really do help each other and I’m always just as inspired by the comments as the videos. It makes getting dressed fun. I definitely don’t take myself as seriously as I once did. I am more likely to try new outfit combinations. I’m not on instagram. I wish UA-cam would allow pictures in the comments. How fun would it be to see others take on there second sunday outfits. These are my favorite videos Alyssa makes!!! Thank you everyone.
