Master of Puppets was put in the library of Congress as one of the greatest albums of all time
You're right, but don't undersell it. In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first, and is still the only, heavy metal album to be inducted into the National Archive. It isn't a little factoid, it's a big effing deal. The things that get accepted into the National Archives are there because they have been determined to possess significant cultural or aesthetic value.
Rightfully so!!!
Master of puppets is about drug addiction. The first section is from the drugs perspective, the need for that fix. The middle section is the addict after taking the drugs and the third section is the come down.
That actually make sense and very interesting that they structured the song like that. Thank you for the comment :)
yep, the middle is the euphoria brought on by following master.
Perfectly said
@@PerunLiveanother said it already, but the transition into the solo is the euphoria of the high from the drug. After is the crash and scramble for another fix.
For sure
i was a hip hop head. then i heard this song. now i’m a full blown metal head
Welcome to the family 😊
There’s a reason this entire album was the first metal album to be placed in the library of congress for its musical and cultural significance- the entire album is an absolute masterpiece and these guys were barely out their teens when they made this album! I’ve been listening to Metallica since about 1985 when their music finally made it to my small town (no radio play or internet then). They were so young when they made this and to think it was their 3rd album and the first two are masterpieces themselves but this album took them to a whole other level. James is a genius with lyrics.
His first reaction: "Let me turn that up."
You're a natural metal head, bud. :D Welcome to the party. 🤘
Orion is an instrumental from the same album that will blow you away in the same manner. Packed with catchy riffs, smooth transitions, and a beautiful melodic part. Everyone gets a chance to take the lead, including two bass solos that most people mistake for a guitar. This album is epic, like in a genre-defining way. Cheers!
R.I.P Cliff Burton, the musical genius behind this album. Lars and James were brilliant in their own right but Cliff brought a dynamic that has been unmatched in metal.
True, my absolute favorite from Metallica. A proper synphony! Amazing piece!
I'm in my 50's today. Back in 1986 when this amazing album was released I was 15. Back then I really didn't have a clue what this song was about. Not at all. This was Metallicas third album. The albums before, to me, were way more "thrashier". In this album they just hit that button of magic that a very few bands can accomplish for maybe one major hit or something like that. But on "Masters.." they accomplished eight awsome/epic songs that I, back then, weren't mature enough to understand the actual widht of. I was in the understanding that the songs were about worshiping the devil and things like that.
But they were way more down to earth, writing about actual problems that for sure they had witnessed themselves, like drugs, in this masterpiece.
Imagine a couple of guys in their 20's, not more than kids really, being able to make music at this ridicuolusly high level. It just beats me. Insane. Truly quite insane.
I’m in those fifties too brother and still refer back to an incredible era in music especially with metal.Still listen to a lot of stuff from those days.
Def need to listen while reading the lyrics, you’ll get another level of depth to the art and meaning of this song 💯 Metallica is absolutely deserving of the legendary Hall of Fame status they have get ready for a ride!!
Watching people react to this song for the first time is my master
Probably one the most metal songs ever.
Awesome band, great somg.
"Let me turn that up." Yes, exactly. :)
Need to check out Cliff Burton anesthesia, he was the bands original bass player who tragically died in a touring bus accident. RIP Cliff!!!
It really is a masterpiece. Just a great level of lyrical artistry, and of course instrumental as well.
"Needlework the way, never you betray"
and
"Pain monopoly, ritual misery
Chop your breakfast on a mirror"
are some of my favorite lines from pretty much any song.
Not bad for a four guys in their early 20's. If you do "One" by them, please do the official music video. You'll get so much more out of it.
Unlike much modern music, Metal music is known for having different motifs or movements, different tempos, and rhythms, and is generally more complex. Metal musicians tend to take pride in being able to recreate their music live, without samples, or auto tune.
This is so cute seeing you kids freak out over what i've been listening to my whole life. Rock on!
Metallica songs to me always feel like a journey where you enjoy the scenery of where they take you
Man I just loved your reaction to my favorite band... I was literary talking to you in the video right before that harmonic solo came I just said ohh enjoy mate and moments before the solo came I was saying... wait for it, wait for it then screamed fix it and started head banging with the solo while enjoying your reaction man I really loved it. I recommend do a reaction video of the song one by metallica as well but it's not about drugs... it's about a soldiers or 1 who basically went to war and lost everything on the battlefield just for you so you can understand the lyrics. (man i don't know if you're gonna make a reaction video about one but i'm already hyped and looking forward to it)
Damn skippy, I was all like "Dude, wait until you hear this!" And my dog's giving me weird looks.
Fun Fact: The Guitar Effect that was used in Master Of Puppets is a: Puppet Master EQ or PMEQ.
"Let me hear again this" and goes back to hear the solo.
Believe a 40 years old metalhead. That's exactly what I did the first time.
Welcome to metal, brother!
Seattle 89' live concert
Welcome to Metallica, my friend, and we are so happy to have you here! Next up, from that album, 'Battery', 'The Thing That Should Not Be', and 'Disposable Heroes'! !m!
You put your foot in it, son! There's no going back now! Thrash metal is calling for you. Answer! Answer! There's so much goodness awaiting you! ^_^ PAX!
Welcome to the rabbit hole that never stops giving.
So, the song is obviously about addiction (of any kind really, but refers a few ones in the song).
- First part, hectic.. because youre chasing the drug, abstinence.. youre looking for it etc.
- Second part, calm.. melodic.. euphoria.. you found what you were looking for, sweet spot.
- Third part, coming down from whatever drug you are on and abstinence starts again.. the chase is back, and the wheel goes on until you break loose.
Cheers
Fade to black has to be next
Greatest band ever 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘….MORE….,you have so many Metallica-bangers / amazing guitar solos from Metallica in front of you 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Now that you've opened the door to Metallica KEEP GOING. you'll enjoy 99% of them.
I bought this album the day it was released in 1986. Masterpiece in my opinion Metallica’s epic metal album.
I'm really glad you enjoyed my favorite band this much, that was really fun to watch, +1 subscriber
Metallica is so much more than the standards of the genre (loud distorted guitars and screaming) they have so many melodic tracks and shift in and out of being heavy and beautiful. I'd recommend Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium) or One if you want more of that melodic nature mixed with heavy riffs. Or if you want a more "standard" metal song, Creeping Death is a classic
Love seeing you young men listen and fall in love like we all did!! Others you should do: One, Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters '... you will not be disappointed ❤ great reaction. Your face says it all.
"Let me turn that up". YES, metal must be listened to loud....set the volume to 11 and strap in....
I’ve been a Metallica fan since 83. My all time favorite band ever
I saw this live, was not as big as moscow one but it was decent.
7:58! Best reaction ever 😂😂 Welcome to the family, bud. Next try the official video for "One".
It's a masterpiece for anyone who's been through drug addiction!
The best reaction I’ve ever seen to master of puppets🤟🤟🤟
Welcome to the Metal Family.
Perfect first reaction to Metallica!
"It's so fast!"
"Watches live performance"
Do Creeping Death and One as well!
If you enjoy guitars, the world of metal is for you. Some of the best guitarists who ever lived (or yet live!) are in the metal genre.
We were asked to analyse and interpret a modern song in high school English. We were to play the song and then speak about its meaning.
So I picked the longest metal track that I could. Master of Puppets. My year 11 teacher rolled his eyes. Sucks to be you, dude.
"Turn the volume up" 😃 probably the best opening I've seen 😁 great reaction to a classic 😊 take care and have fun 😎 enjoy your Metallica journey ☺ recommendations... To live is to die, One, Orion... you're welcome 😎
Kirk Hammett's nickname is Captain Crunch because of that sound.
I got to see them in 1988 in the auditorium in Burlington VT. They had promised to play every state, no matter how small.
You mean Kirk Wahmmett?
😂
You gotta do Black Sabbath dude. One of the most influential bands of all time. Birth of metal!
That final guitar solo is a great example of an addict that has come down from their high and are looking for the next fix!
thougth you were perun the defense analysis channel for a second 💀. Was thinking like "what is he doing a reaction for?"
Not all 80's metal is great, but all great metal is from the 80's.
Not all but a ton of good metal is from the 80s
Time to take a dive down the rabbit hole..
Fade to Black next!
MASTER MASTER 🤘
It's so beautiful all of a sudden because that part represents the addict getting his fix. But like the guitar solo, it doesn't last, reality always comes back with a vengeance. Promised only lies
Also, the point of view is just beautiful.
It really is sang as the Master of Puppets (the drugs) dictating the law of misery to the helpless addicts.
I believe James wrote the lyrics after being at a party and seeing so many people high on heroin or something like it. It’s oddly funny that one of their most popular songs is about drug addiction.
So.. It's been four days. How many times have you listened to this since? 🤏😂😂
Greatest album of mankind
Welcome to the world of metal, where people know how to play their instruments and are masters of their craft... Metal music is most akin to classical music as in the music is doing a lot of the talking on these tracks. Metallica has multiple songs where there are no lyrics at all and just the instruments carrying the songs (some with next to no lyrics in them). It is incredible and wonderful and as the songs progress you don't get bored as it keeps on moving and twisting into new directions.
Try "four horsemen" or album version of "one" from metallica for some great riffs and solos!
Second generation classical music.
Master of puppets refers to the controlled drugs have over you particularly hard drugs. Starts off with the craving for drugs and excitement of taking them then goes into the melodic part. Where are you taking them and you’re on a high and finally goes to the part, where are you coming down off the drugs are feeling terrible.
please try "Disposable Heroes" - find this "Metallica - Disposable Heroes (Live in Mexico City) [Orgullo, Pasión, y Gloria]" imo this is a best performance of this song
Metallica are legends son
I heard this first at confirmation camp (it must have just dropped!)
I was conditioned on Iron Maiden and I didn't love it immediately.
Liked it I did. The riffage you oh'd at pulled me closer.
Metallica is known for long songs and long intros in their songs. Their newest album that came out in April has the
Longest song they ever recorded- inamorata
But very nice reaction
I grow up whit this in the early 1980´s🙂
that right there my man is true talent!!!! ditch the hip hop!!!!! lol earned a sub!!!!!
Unforgiven is a big hit from Metallica, you may also like it. But basically all their songs are great : )
This is a song about drug addiction. The "master" is the drug. That beautiful part is the high of the drug, and then the addiction starts to creep back...
Здравствуйте молоешь😂😂
Play it with lyrics, to get the full effect.
The most terrifying lyrics since ‘1999’
THE SONG IS WRITTEN IN THE EYE OF THE DRUG.
You should listen to Floods by Pantera🙏
You must ALWAYS have the lyrics👊 🤘METALLICAAAAA🤘
If you want the skin peeled from your face, listen to Disposable Heroes. 🤘💀💪
I'm so confused right now. I was expecting a military spending and economics report on Metallica.
To me, this album is the Dark Side of the Moon of metal.
Sad to hear you never hear the best of Metallica
Chrissy, this is for you.
So being a metal head most of my life with limited experience to most of the well known rap songs. What Hip Hop hard core song should I listen to that would give me a similar experience? What's the rap equivalent of master of Puppets?
Please listen to “Orion” by Metallica. It’s an instrumental that will blow you away! Well worth every second
Ey you said something about the tempo right. Well normally guitarists play speeds like this but alternating up and down picking on the strings. No James Hetfield (lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Metallica) only does down picking. Which basically makes it even more impressive.
You can look up the differences between Downpicking and Alternate-picking online if you want. Rock on brother!🤘
Well, songs like Whiplash, FFWF, Damage Inc, Battery, Dyers, and Disposable are alt, cuz yeah downpicking at THAT rate is physically impossible.
@@TransNFLGirl yeah true but Master Of Puppets is for like 99% played with just downpicking. Which makes it even more impressive at that speed
@@TransNFLGirl Hetfield is known for being the king of downpicking. Where did you get the info that those songs were alt picked?
@@ARandomInternetUser08 They are legit not possible. No human down downpick Battery. Not even James.
@@TransNFLGirl well then I don't know why I only hear people say that's what he's known for, especially in the 8s, was downpicking. I assumed it was everything.
This song was about King Cocaine. In the 80s, cocaine was King. Chasing that Dragon!!
Everyone is doing this song.
Ah the days when your folks told you to stay away from that evil metal stuff yet the band spends 8 minutes spelling out drugs are bad.
Go next Metallica- one
Check out the BIG 4; METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX of slash metal.
Slayer-Black metal
@@arekwegner6103 black metal:
Abbath,BELPHEGOR,CARTHAGOD,DEVILMENT,MAYHEM, ROTTING CHRIST, BEHEMOTH.
@@karimhicks8376 Behemoth-Death Metal
hey man this is thrash metal RIP CLIFF
this is thrash metal
Ahahah youll be buying yourself a metallica t shirt soon :)
I’ve always thought this song sums up addiction perfectly. You really are just a puppet, with your addiction pulling all your strings. You’re not in control at all.
Why is it beautiful? Because Kirk Hammett is beautiful.
Now my friend you´re ready for Megadeth. Thank me later 😁
Moscow 1991 live if you want Metallica. Also if you’re here for Metallica and not views do some obscure songs like Bleeding me, Carpe diem baby, the thing that should not be.
I love watching reactors reviewing the almost 50 year old tunes I grew up with.
You mean 40 year old tunes. They were very, very young in the early 70's, lol.
@@nielgregory108 hence the word ALMOST it is more like 45 ( I think it came out in 86). But either way the sentiment is the same and it will be around in 5 years.
50 years ago James was 10, 40 years ago he was 20
Maybe consider using subtitles.
Do anything for a Metallica’s first five albums and you’ll find it’s all great, everything after the and Justice for all album though sucks
It ain’t rock, it’s metal. The bands name is literally called Metallica
Thrash Metal is the best...
You should have listened to the words its about drugs and the music literally plays to the highs and lows of drug use.
