The genius of this song is that the music mimics the addicts roller coaster ride of feelings. The transition into the slow melody mimics the addict getting his fix. The music then goes up tempo as the need for another fix intensifies.
Rock and Metal are telling 2 stories at the same time. The story is in instruments as well as the lyrics. The instruments have their own side of the story to tell. This song is the perfect example of that. The first part of the song is the Addict craving and seeking their drug of choice. The music is hard and slightly frenetic to express the emotions and feeling of the addict who needs a fix. It gets slightly faster and more frantic the closer to the musical interlude of the middle of the song. The melodic interlude is the calmness and the high because the addict has found what they crave. The instruments start to pick up the pace and the energy as the story gets to the end because the addict is coming down from their high and starting the cycle of their ritual all over again. To listen to rock or metal, you have to listen with a different ear than what you listen to hip hop with. The beat of a hip hop song is not the story. Its simply there to give the artist something to tell their story over. Its almost like a metronome. Its only purpose is to keep time and keep the flow on point. Rock is different. The instruments not only drive the story but tell their own story.
The music and lyrics are supposed to be telling the SAME story. They just elaborate in different ways in fill in certain holes. It's not like it's a different story. It's the same story otherwise they wouldn't fit together. Hence why the music chosen for MoP's lyrics sounds like this. And that's why One sounds the way it does. Both lyrics AND instruments are telling the story. The SAME story.
@@adameves5970 sorta... In this song, they are telling a similar story, true, but it's from different perspectives, one is from the viewpoint of the user, the other is the viewpoint of the drug itself. Also, the music can have different interpretations as well. For example the way it comes across to me is that the first section is about the downfall of someone subcoming to the drugs... the second part is a new person enjoying the high and then slowly getting pulled into a personal hell, repeating the tragedy over and over again. To me this is validated by the line "..and now I rule you too!" suggesting it's a different person. **shrug** but everyone has their own interpretation of a song and its lyrics.
in this songs case, it's one story. fast paced and hard at start because they are hyped up on the drugs. it goes slow in the middle because they are coming down, then at the end it get's even harder because they are back on the drugs and over dosing.
I like your perspective on the musical aspect. I've listened to this song for 30 years & never really thought that much about the interlude as the "ah, got my fix, much better" followed by the "I'm coming down, I need more"
"How I'm killing you" He's singing from the drugs perspective. The drug is the master, pulling the strings of puppet addict. The puppet needs his fix, so he come crawling and screaming to the master, who hears his cries, despite the puppet knowing that the drug is controlling him, smashing his dreams, and killing him. "Chop your breakfast on a mirror" is synonymous with chopping up cocaine for breakfast, instead of eating, which obviously unhealthy. The master(drugs) tells the puppet(addict) lies saying that the puppet can't live without him; in other words, you can't function due to the withdrawals, and need the master for your fix. I was an opiate addict for 10 years, been clean for 4 years now, and that shit was the master of my life at the time. Every day was me trying to grab so I wouldn't hit withdrawal, get high, then do it all over again. I didn't care about anything else. I overdosed one night, and the next I went on methadone and never looked back. Took my last drink of methadone 4 years ago, and can say it was the best decision I ever made in my life. So glad I'm out of that life now.
People suggest their favorite song without taking into consideration the perspective of the person who will be listening to it for the first time. Metallica is by far the best heavy metal band due to their first four albums, but they’re also extremely diverse too (especially after their 5th album). Master of Puppets is a lot to take in for someone new to this genre. (Excellent song though!) There are 3 Metallica songs (that are also fan favorites) that have a slower beginning (with beautiful instrumentation) that will slowly ease you into the harder/faster aspects that occur later in the songs. All 3 are truly excellent. 1. Sanitarium (another term for a mental institution) This one seems to really resonate with people new to this type of music. 2. Fade to Black (The lyrics express the thoughts of a guy who ultimately commits suicide while the instruments do a fantastic job of expressing his emotions. Despite the dark content, the music is somehow not depressing, and for those who are currently in a dark place, the song tends to help them feel better, not more depressed.) 3. One (DEEP song based on a book (and later movie) about a soldier who’s physically and emotionally devastated by WWI. Starts off slow and beautiful and slowly builds up to a heavy metal ending.) They also have one country-ish song called Mama Said that’s really good!
I'd give both Fade to Black and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica a try! They're slightly more laid back songs, so they might be better transition material.
Go ahead and pause. People can watch the video on their own and listen to the whole solo. You are doing a reaction, pause whenever you have something to say.
Metal has always been known for long build ups that tell the story before the story! That's what separates Metal from everything else is the ability to tell a story without words.
This one of their best songs... Timeless band for a reason, have a message, hit it hard and can still play mellow. I listened to metal and rock all my life and their one of few bands I can still remember their play list.
Even tho I’ve heard this song a million times I wanted to scream stop pausing so you can truly enjoy the song. That guitar solo is one of the best if not the best ever!!!
This song IMO is about the stages of addiction from drug use. Starts off with the casual user wanting to find a fix. Then @ 7:10, the user scores some and uses. Then you hear the mellow euphoric music. @ 9:40, the amped up rage of the crash and searching for the next fix. @12:20, you’re hooked. You’ll do anything for your next fix. You have to obey your master when he urges you and you have to do what the drugs tell you. It ends with the “master” laughing at you because he knows he has you in his clutches.
Dude you nailed how I hear it. Been through addiction with alcohol and the song perfectly captures the euphoric high followed by the crash and feeling of loss of control. Powerful song.
I totally understand your filling. What i think just happened is that to enter in a new category of music you select a heavyweight classic that is hard to digest. And believe when i said Metallica is a hardcore group to make the transition. If you want to really falling love with them go for their album Black.
Yeah that is a hard one to start out with, but still a good choice. Would be akin to starting out with Slayer's Raining Blood or Angel of Death as the first Slayer song, or Judas Priests' Pain Killer as the first Judas Priest song.
Metallica writes absolutely brilliant lyrics, especially on their 1st 4 albums (kill 'em all, lightning, puppets, and justice)... You don't have to "get through" the music to get to the lyrics, either, because the music would hold up the song if there were no lyrics. I very much enjoy that much extra music because it's a joy to hear, and it showcases their talent. This is a different genre than what you're used to. They actually have oodles of talent, musically AND lyrically. You picked out that this was about drugs early enough... check out creeping death and absorb those lyrics. These guys are very intellectual writers
The first part off the song is the drugs talking "obey your master". The middle is the addict calling out for more drugs. And the end is the drugs talking again. The feel of the music takes you from withdrawal, to a high, and back to withdrawal.
the difference between hiphop and rock alone is that instruments set the tone for the song in rock while they merely provide context in hiphop metal itself is very storytelling and you will be hard-pressed to find a metal band that has been around for a while that doesnt have excellent storytelling these differences are the reason why many metalheads end up enjoying Eminem as well: his storytelling sounds very familiar to any metalhead and even rock fans
Metallica did a concert with the San Francisco philharmonic orchestra. The concert was called S&M. It’s amazing , and it’ll give you a whole new appreciation for metal music when you see it being played with a classical orchestra. I suggest the official music video for Metallica’s song “No Leaf Clover”. It was from the concert.
This was your first rock song reaction?! Oh gosh! Just jumping right in the mosh pit. XD Honestly, country music nowadays is all sounding the same to me. I guess I'm bias to the 90s country like Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, etc. I grew up with this type of music. Apparently, I couldn't sleep as a baby without Ozzy Osbourne's Bark At The Moon playing. XD
Heavy metal bands like to let everybody know they can play their instruments before they start singing. Technical proficiency is a hallmark of the genre.
When you’re a hip-hop fan you don’t develop an appreciation for pure musical talent. This is one of the best metal songs ever and it’s not just this way because of the voice but because of the instruments these musicians are playing. I’ll together it equals one masterpiece. Hip-hop they just pick a beat and a sound and flow with it as they wrap to you.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Producers don't just "pick a beat". The meticulous level of attention to detail to find the perfect samples requires hours of sifting through crates. Some actually play multiple musical instruments to create their own samples. And then they have to craft and combine each sound to tell a story. I'm not arguing which is more difficult or requires more skill, but to say hip hop doesn't develop appreciation for pure musical talent is insane. This dude in particular is just limited in his worldview. Even his range of vocabulary is 🗑. "Don't Cry" by J Dilla is a masterpiece 9th wonder and Timbaland are also musical geniuses.
@@AWesker99 who cares… You like what you like and I like what I do. It’s a lot of electronics for sure and does take a little bit of work, but that’s much different than four or five people in a band who have played their instruments all their life to master it. Hip-hop producers also record different musical parts from other musicians because of course their musician skills are not good enough.
The lyrics of the song are from the point of view of the master (drug). Except for the brief interlude where it switches to the puppet (user) before switching back. The music paces with the ups and downs of drug taking beginning with taking the drug, getting high, coming down, getting angry at the drug (this is where the lyrics switch to the puppet), then getting the next fix.
I feel ya on all your comments. I've grown up a rock fan as well as a hip hop fan. The qualities I appreciate and enjoy from both genres are different from each other. I love the lyricism and production of rap. I love the masterful talents of musicians and the instruments they play when compiling a rock song...and the ability to compose a song that includes multiple musicians and instruments. For the most part, a rap song's main components are the producer of the beats and the writer/orator of the lyrics (certainly, exceptions apply). Whereas a typical rock song consists of 3+ musicians playing multiple different instruments (I think back to a live performance by the band Chicago where I swear they had over 10 instruments being played at a live performance). So to think about the work and coordination that goes into everything being in sync to the point of an audibly pleasing tune, I think is definitely admirable (in the least).
As I previously stated, I've always loved rock music (not so much hard rock...more classic rock...Metallica is about as hard as I've ever preferred). Watching rock music live is next-level enjoyment for me; whereas, rap music live can sometimes be hit or miss with me. And, after 40 years of enjoying rock music, I finally decided to try to teach myself how to play the guitar. That gave me a whole new appreciation for the talent that goes into the mastery of that instrument. Having said all that, I would HIGHLY recommend reacting to a live performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan. In fact, I'll donate to the Recklezz Fam just to be able to gain both of y'alls feedback and insight into that type of performance.
Master of Puppets was my introduction to Metallica all the way back in 1989. They were a bucket list group. I actually had tickets to see Metallica in 1993 when they toured with Guns N Roses. I worked at the fairgrounds the concert was happening at. I’m a preachers kid so he limited what I listened to. I told my parents I was working that night. I was so psyched. Then Axl Rose’s punk ass decided he didn’t wanna play that night and the concert was cancelled. Metallica became this world wide amazing legendary band and didn’t come back to Tulsa Oklahoma until 2017 when I finally got to mark them off the bucket list. These guys have been killing it for almost 40 years and they’re one of a handful of bands that to me are better live than in studio. Nothing beats Metallica live!
When it comes to metal first you respect the music, the arrangement , the complexities , and the time signature changes. All of these thinks keep it interesting. You then gain respect for the musicians who dedicate their lives to their craft. No auto tune , no drum machines, just humans who have mastered their instrument. Then you begin to disect the lyrics. Metal features much symbolism Like the line "Chop your breakfast on a mirror" symbilizes the addict who rather than eating a nutritious breakfast they opt for cocaine. I respect that you have chosen to take on this dive into metal. Stick with it. Next try Iron Maiden's Hallowed be thy name. It's about a prisoner on death row who's time has come up and what goes through his mind. I recommend that at first when listening to metal you watch the videos that feature the lyrics.
The long intros in metal songs are doing two things. Setting the vibe and surrounding the listener in the world the band is setting up before whatever message is coming, like any good horror movie that takes its time building up and setting the scene before showing you something horrific. You get 2 minutes into a song with a really powerful intro where the drums are going apeshit and the guitars have you given you some massive riff thats going to be stuck in your head forever...... and then the vocal hits and you're like "yeah I know exactly what you're saying!" It's also a showcase for the instruments where they establish the sounds and themes and sometimes the hook youre going to hear later. Metallica were masters of creating really powerful, memorable intros in their prime.
It's great that your trying to keep an open mind to different music. Metallica's Master album is a heavy one and one of their all time greats. I'd suggest starting off with something more on the Rock-n-Roll side like AC/DC like Back in Black, For Those About To Rock, Shook Me All Night Long.
Which way you want to go? Rock? Metal? Country? Country: The Walk by Sawyer Brown. Blue by Leann Rimes. Hair bands: Slaughter, Steelheart, Cinderella. Metal: Megadeth’s Peace Sells. Top 40 Mike and the Mechanics’ The living Years. Just a few.
Just my opinion in response to your comment about metal songs taking a while to say something: Not all music are songs, and not all songs are music. Music is a composition that you can listen to and enjoy even with out lyrics. A lot of metal is more about the music than it is about being a song, and that's what I love about it. The instruments are saying something. The structure is saying something. Even if you stripped out the vocals from this song, the music would still be saying something and if you're paying attention, you'll even feel something.
Nothing else matters is actually pretty dope song and im sure you will appreciate that more. Im not the biggest rock fan but my brother is and i listened to some rock through him. They got a couple of mire good one but i cant remember the names. Also they did a concert in Moscow in 1991 and there was 1.6 million people in the crowd.. 1.6 mill! Madness!
Also quick catch on figuring out that it’s about drugs or any basic addiction. Not everyone picks up on the meaning that quick. James hetfield (singer and main writer) tends to write his lyrics in a way that still leaves the interpretation up to the individuals perspective to make it their own.
You’re right. It’s not for everyone. I grew up listening to my dad’s 80’s hair metal music. But I came to loving all types of music. Because I appreciate what goes into it. The passion, the work. So I can listen to pretty much anything. I played the guitar and learned music composition so that’s where my open mindedness comes from. People are not the same so I don’t expect everyone to like the same thing. So I respect your input. At least people are willing and open to reacting to metal/rock. And that in itself is awesome.
I think the best way for the world to get along and understand each other is to be musically diverse! Music can cross lines that talking can not. I’ve raised my children in a musically diverse atmosphere. I feel we can all learn from each other and music can break that divide.
Love how host you both are in your reactions. Keep watching new stuff, it will open your minds and hearts to good music and many other things you may have never been exposed to.
The arrangement of the song mimicks a junkie, the frantic fast pace is the junkie trying to find their next fix, then the slow melodic part in the middle is the euphoria a junkie feels getting their high, then the slow decent back to fast pace is the junkie coming down of their high, and the fast pace thrashing is the junkie frantically looking for their next hit again
Check out Dax….if u want deep, u will LOVE his stuff!!! Start with Dear God, Book of Revelations, I can’t breathe and Joker!!! U won’t regret it then PLEASE come back and let me know what u think!! 😊
this was a pretty intense song for your first rock/metal song ...... dont give up on metal. listen to iron maiden, judas priest, megadeath, the list goes on and on. soooo many amazing vocalists and musicianship. metal does not get the credit it deserves
This song is written from the perspective of the drug itself and the basic cycle of drug use - you crave it, you get high, you come down from the high, you crave it again. Think of the lyrics as the drug talking to you. Musically, the song follows the cycle of drug use. The soft melodic instrumental part in the middle is the high.
Dude you've come a long way from your first Tom MacDonald reaction. This is "metal" music aka heavy metal. It's a progression from "rock & roll" that became a think in the late 60s. It's the "gansta rap" of rock music. The primary difference other than sound between 'rock and roll' vs 'metal', is that rock & roll usually makes songs for having fun and partying. While there are outliers that are exceptions, for the most part, rock music has always been about rebelling and partying hard. Metal is actually more similar to hip-hop in that the lyrics of metal music are quite often or usually very deep and profound. It's usually anti-establishment or anti-elite music for the masses. the music composition is center stage however - you commented on how long they played their instruments before anyone said anything - like the musical score in a great movie scene, the music helps the audience connect with the dialogue and the scene to make you feel a sort of way. Metal does this. The lyrics are deep, and are meant to smack you in the head, often times takes you with them to let you feel what they are feeling in their lyrics - the instrumentation and music heightens that connection - that's the "soulful" comment/connection you were making. I believe the more you listen, the more you will see that metal and hip-hop have so much in common. (true good rap hip-hop - not the gucci gang drink-lean mainstream shit - i mean deep meaningful got it out he mud life struggle and philosophical shit that makes you think) in fact a lot of rap uses rock and metal bass beats to sample for their songs, cuz as you could hear, the instruments in metal are so fkn raw!
This is how genius this song is. Yes guessed right, it's about drugs. But, pay attention to all 3 major sections of the song. The beginning = in your face, but straight forward = wanting and looking for the drugs. The middle = calm and peaceful = you found the drugs, you got your fix and are feeling great. The rest of the song = chaotic sounding, out of contol = the crash of coming off the drugs....and the cycle continues. As a former addict, this song hits hard.
I think a better introduction to metal is starting with groups more akin to rap to get a better feel of the instruments incorporated with the lyrics. I’d really recommend Rage Against The Machine which has incredible rapping over the top of the instruments. The singer spits on Bulls on Parade and Killing in the Name of for two recommendations
Puppets the first song I play everytime I grab my guitar , if one can learn puppets they can play almost anything. Infected Rain and Jinjer should be a must . Especially jinjer their timing their musicianship and most especially the vocals are top shelf none are greater
I normally hate reaction channels, but this dude is 100% honest, and his appreciation for music in general is on point. Id love to see them react to motionless in white thoughts and prayers! They would lose it!
The music used to be as much part of the song as the lyrics. We enjoyed the intro as part of the artistry. Modern music is ALL about the lyrics. Later generations get impatient if they don't hear lyrics in the first 10 seconds
Idk. I am in the later generations and imo lyrics are 90% of the time just a filler in music. Rap and folk music are the only genres where I put any thought on to the lyrics unless I know the artist has a message hidden in their craft.
When I first listened to the studio version of this song I thought "Yeah, it's pretty good; but I don't get the hype". Then I went to my first Metallica gig and heard it played live. Epiphany! I 'got' it. Then I really started to listen to it. Absolutely love this song now.
Try skid row (wasted time) . Another great metal band One of the greatest metal singers of all time My favorite singer. And two of the best metal guitar players
I tried to imagine how some metalheads sit in the studio around 1985 recording an album and one dude is like "yo that shit raw, ain't even cappin'" :D:D:D:D
I’m a metal head AND roots reggae lover. On the metal side you should check out Whitechapel “Brimestone and Hickory Creek” on Roots/Reggae please check out Soja “It’s Funny”, Tribal Seeds “ Breath Easy and Wicked And Riled”.
Black Sabbath. The first metal band. Also where Ozzy Osbourne got his start. That'll ease you in. Possible songs: War Pigs (NOT THE "VIDEO". IT'S NOT REAL.) Hand Of Doom, Into The Void, Fairies Wear Boots, Lord Of This World.
Black Sabbath is the greatest band that will ever exist and nobody reacts to them much. I watch literally 100 reaction channels and after listening to a few songs they never listen to Black Sabbath again, it's a joke. As amazing as MetallicA is they ain't shit next to Sabbath. 😃😃😃😃
It really is good to go outside of what you are comfortable with. Doesn't mean you have to like it. . But at least experience it and see where/how/why people like it. I've been on a similar journey
If u want to listen to more Metallica trust me an ease in to it an try "holier than tho" or "sad but true" "misery" "unforgiven" and or "nothing else matters" those have a smoother kinda feel to them lol I have listened them for 25 + years an got to see them in 1997 at 17 years old but like ur honest reaction! Also they were the first band to play on every continent in the world😁 just saying LOL
You should check out Metallica Live in Seattle 1989 “seek and destroy” that was Metallica at their absolute %100 best and it was crazy! Also, you should check out the legend Freddy Mercury and his band Queen. “Somebody to love” live in Montreal 1981 was one of the most epic performances I have ever seen
It's always good to keep an open mind and look outside your personal comfort zone for new adventures (in this case other genres of music). It's cool, if you listen to something and then say, it's not for you. Some people simply judge before they even experience first hand. So cudos to you.
I love hip-hop fans listening to metal bc metalheads don’t typically analyze lyrics this much. Parents in the 80s thought this shit was about devil worship, but 4 bars in you already knew it was about drugs. Good shit dude. Subscribed for surrrrre. Also, love the vinyls on the wall.
The talent level is different with instrumental based music, especially as a singer, songwriter and playing an instrument. Years into improving your writing skills, years of vocal training and even more years in mastering your instrument then put it all together without missing a beat while moving around on stage for 1-2 hours. I always admire people who can sing and play at the same time. And I'm not talking some slow tune while playing a few simple repeated basic chord pattern at a steady pace around the campfire you feel me. Metal is my shit man 🤘Legendary band, ground breaking album and a masterful song.
Yo, this is so lit, like the guitar is his own music and the singing/lyrics is another thing. But the way they play them together it´s a genuin feeling of addiction to anything. The addiction doesn´t need to be drugs it could just be for your phone or teqnology.
You guys need your own separate headphones. Some music, especially from 70's and 80's, is designed to be listened to with stereo headphones. Also, my uncle told me that in ANY genre of music, you will find someone you like. Because there is such a wide variety in almost any genre. I've always found that to be true. Listen to some classical music, specifically bach, and you will find some similarities with metallica. An appreciation of musical scales and general music theory can give you a wide appreciation for really almost any genre. Can recognize beats, rythyms, etc.
also listen to creeping death by metallica as well as for whom the bell tolls and disposable heroes. really their first 6 albums were altogether amazing
My girl! I can really see this song hit you different way. let me know if those emotions were good or bad👼 Really enjoyed this reaction✌ Greetings from Finland!
This is one of the best heavy metal songs in history.. I'm not even a huge Metallica fan but thems the facts. If you dont 'get' this one, or appreciate why it's great.. this genre may not be for you. Just sayin. I give you credit for giving it a shot but you've got a ways to go before you can really appreciate what's going on here. Keep going though. It worth it.
React to Metallica's '91' performance of "Enter Sandman" and, or "Creeping Death"... Live from Moscow where there were 1.6 million people in attendance. Must see to believe!!
most rappers are solo artists most rock and metal is a bank. so with the band dynamic everyone plays an instrument and wants to be heard. and its a group effort . also sometimes u can feel the music and get the tone of the song with just the instruments. sweet vids keep the grind up
2 first verses its the drugs talking to the addict, after the solo its the addict talking to the drugs.. The drug is the master, the addict is the puppet
are yall listening with 1 ear plug? Rock n Roll went stereo in the mid 60s.....The real ride is in stereo. they played with quadraphonics in the 70s but stereo( 2 channels) is a must. im broke af but one someone please send them some good headphones
Do y’all recommend any other songs or artists? 🤔
Check out I disappear by Metallica.
Sound of silence!!! The video 🔥

The genius of this song is that the music mimics the addicts roller coaster ride of feelings. The transition into the slow melody mimics the addict getting his fix. The music then goes up tempo as the need for another fix intensifies.
A lot of people don't realize this. Glad you brought it up
Rock and Metal are telling 2 stories at the same time.

Metallica is by far the best heavy metal band due to their first four albums, but they’re also extremely diverse too (especially after their 5th album).

There are 3 Metallica songs (that are also fan favorites) that have a slower beginning (with beautiful instrumentation) that will slowly ease you into the harder/faster aspects that occur later in the songs. All 3 are truly excellent.

3. One (DEEP song based on a book (and later movie) about a soldier who’s physically and emotionally devastated by WWI. Starts off slow and beautiful and slowly builds up to a heavy metal ending.)
They also have one country-ish song called Mama Said that’s really good!
Sanitarium is so comforting sometimes
Excellent point, I’ve always thought the same thing!!
F that, just do " last caress"!!
This is an excellent comment.
what about ......."unforgiven" nothing else matters" "to live is to die" and so on...
A little word of advice: never pause during a guitar solo.
100% this
I'd give both Fade to Black and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica a try! They're slightly more laid back songs, so they might be better transition material.
Sanitarium is a great song about mental health and how the system fails those it's designed to help
What about eye of the beholder
Yas
I sugguest One from Metallica, but seriously, you need to listen to it in stereo. Music is only half the emotions with one ear.
Never pause during a guitar solo. People who can't appreciate intrumental sections will never get into metal. That's the plain truth of it.
That’s so true, the music comes first the lyrics are secondary for me. 👍
Go ahead and pause. People can watch the video on their own and listen to the whole solo. You are doing a reaction, pause whenever you have something to say.
Ever heard of copyright strikes?
@@JuanMarquez-op4vw nobody else has an issue with it.
He pauses it right near the end of the solo, don’t really see much of an issue here🤷♂️
P.s. check out Metallica live I'm Moscow 1991..you can see what a million and a half people look like in real life. Awesome
Rule number one .. never ever pause a song during a solo 😆 🤣
Also .it's being sung by the perspective of the drug "I'm your master"
Dude you nailed how I hear it. Been through addiction with alcohol and the song perfectly captures the euphoric high followed by the crash and feeling of loss of control. Powerful song.
I totally understand your filling. What i think just happened is that to enter in a new category of music you select a heavyweight classic that is hard to digest. And believe when i said Metallica is a hardcore group to make the transition. If you want to really falling love with them go for their album Black.
Exacccctly what I just commented haha read my mind… it’s true… this is a bit too much for someone that’s “venturing”….
Yeah that is a hard one to start out with, but still a good choice. Would be akin to starting out with Slayer's Raining Blood or Angel of Death as the first Slayer song, or Judas Priests' Pain Killer as the first Judas Priest song.
To me the best Metallica is the 80s Metallica. That's when I was in high school and just loved it!
Omg!! That's my favorite Metallica song - it's about drug addiction
The first part off the song is the drugs talking "obey your master". The middle is the addict calling out for more drugs. And the end is the drugs talking again. The feel of the music takes you from withdrawal, to a high, and back to withdrawal.
This album was the first metal album to be placed in the library of Congress for its cultural significance
the difference between hiphop and rock alone is that instruments set the tone for the song in rock while they merely provide context in hiphop
metal itself is very storytelling and you will be hard-pressed to find a metal band that has been around for a while that doesnt have excellent storytelling
these differences are the reason why many metalheads end up enjoying Eminem as well: his storytelling sounds very familiar to any metalhead and even rock fans
XD
Honestly, country music nowadays is all sounding the same to me.
Technical proficiency is a hallmark of the genre.
lol, true
"Don't Cry" by J Dilla is a masterpiece
9th wonder and Timbaland are also musical geniuses.
You guys seem intelligent and pick things up pretty quick in the music! Good video.
Some Metal music is closer to classical music than you than would think. with long choruses and dramatic time change I love it
Metallica live in Moscow videos are the best
You got the drug abuse theme off the bat bro, that's impressive! I've watched hella reactors do this track and some of em don't ever catch it.
The art of storytelling through instruments 🤘
Which way you want to go? Rock? Metal? Country? Country: The Walk by Sawyer Brown. Blue by Leann Rimes. Hair bands: Slaughter, Steelheart, Cinderella. Metal: Megadeth’s Peace Sells. Top 40 Mike and the Mechanics’ The living Years. Just a few.
Just my opinion in response to your comment about metal songs taking a while to say something:
Not all music are songs, and not all songs are music.
Slipknot n Metallica are music education 🤘👊🔥
The arrangement of the song mimicks a junkie, the frantic fast pace is the junkie trying to find their next fix, then the slow melodic part in the middle is the euphoria a junkie feels getting their high, then the slow decent back to fast pace is the junkie coming down of their high, and the fast pace thrashing is the junkie frantically looking for their next hit again
I grew up listening to Metallica...love them..beautiful music with deep meaning..I'm now also a huge Tom MacDonald fan...great reaction...
HOG 4life!
Omg yes!!!! Tom is literally the only rap/hip-hop I listen to him daily #HOG 4LIFE!!!
Check out Dax….if u want deep, u will LOVE his stuff!!! Start with Dear God, Book of Revelations, I can’t breathe and Joker!!! U won’t regret it then PLEASE come back and let me know what u think!! 😊
this was a pretty intense song for your first rock/metal song ...... dont give up on metal. listen to iron maiden, judas priest, megadeath, the list goes on and on. soooo many amazing vocalists and musicianship. metal does not get the credit it deserves
def some iron maiden like Hallowed be thy name, number of the beast, rime of the ancient mariner, powerslave, the list goes on with Maiden
U got t right, it’s about drugs and addiction….he is speaking from the drugs point of view, if the drugs could talk!! Great job!!!!
Love your honesty, brother. Can't stand fake reactors - hard to tell what truly moves them. Don't change 👌
Heck yeah man, I've been looking for you, an Honest person reacting to songs I like
Puppets the first song I play everytime I grab my guitar , if one can learn puppets they can play almost anything.
Yeah lyrics are a part of metal, metal though is certainly NOT all about the lyrics my man. Nope.
When I first listened to the studio version of this song I thought "Yeah, it's pretty good; but I don't get the hype". Then I went to my first Metallica gig and heard it played live. Epiphany! I 'got' it. Then I really started to listen to it. Absolutely love this song now.
You've stumbled on to the GOATs, brother! Keep digging in!
Try skid row (wasted time) . Another great metal band
One of the greatest metal singers of all time
My favorite singer.
Metallica Live Seattle 1989 any song from that show. Battery is absolutely insane.
Slayer, "Angel of death," studio version, with lyrics. Metals finest.
By many fans in rock/metal this is the best metal song. It was actually 1 by fans and Rollin stone magazine
These guys are AMAZING live. Trust me.
You should check out Metallica Live in Seattle 1989 “seek and destroy” that was Metallica at their absolute %100 best and it was crazy!
Also, you should check out the legend Freddy Mercury and his band Queen. “Somebody to love” live in Montreal 1981 was one of the most epic performances I have ever seen
always do studio version first
It's always good to keep an open mind and look outside your personal comfort zone for new adventures (in this case other genres of music).
Also, love the vinyls on the wall.
definitely need both headphones in for any type of music tho
I got into this type of music because of Eddie from stranger things
The slow part is like euforia what you get from drugs. Then the fast part when you lose it all. Story of my life..
The lyrics on this song are absolutely crazy.
I’ve never seen someone pause during the instrumental parts of this song more in my life.
Metallica has been doing this for over 40 years seen them many times the concerts are awesome
Closing in on the big 40*. No need to blow things out of proportion. Real recognize real.
Like the reaction.
Check out them on Seek and destroy.
For whom the bell tolls.
Both them songs are too notch
Yo,
this is so lit, like the guitar is his own music and the singing/lyrics is another thing.
Alter Bridge - Blackbird one of the greatest songs ever written that not many people have ever heard.
My girl! I can really see this song hit you different way. let me know if those emotions were good or bad👼
Really enjoyed this reaction✌
Greetings from Finland!
Metallica usually has about 8 verses. 3-4 are instrumental only.
React to Metallica's '91' performance of "Enter Sandman" and, or "Creeping Death"... Live from Moscow where there were 1.6 million people in attendance. Must see to believe!!
most rappers are solo artists most rock and metal is a bank. so with the band dynamic everyone plays an instrument and wants to be heard. and its a group effort . also sometimes u can feel the music and get the tone of the song with just the instruments. sweet vids keep the grind up
Rage against the machine ... wake up.... as a Black man that song Will blow your mind
One by Metallica is a must hear. Just started following today, but I can recommend a ton. Try some Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave.
Metallica "One"
The music video. Your jaw will drop.
Appreciate your honesty. The Moscow 1991 Enter Sandman video will clue you into what's up with Metallica. Cheers.
2 first verses its the drugs talking to the addict, after the solo its the addict talking to the drugs.. The drug is the master, the addict is the puppet
Bro 80s 90s belong to Metallica in my opinion greatest band ever! Ride the lighting day on the green live watch cliff play insane
I got a drinking game idea. Take a shot every time this guy says "y'know what I'm sayin?" Lmao
are yall listening with 1 ear plug? Rock n Roll went stereo in the mid 60s.....The real ride is in stereo. they played with quadraphonics in the 70s but stereo( 2 channels) is a must. im broke af but one someone please send them some good headphones
You'll like "Fade to Black" by Metallica. It's a little less hardcore and more melodic.
Hearing your comments about different genres makes me think of a line from their song “nothing else matters” - open mind for a different view
