I won front row seats and backstage passes at a Pearl Jam concert (total wet dream!) . My mom was in her 70s and had never been to a concert. She always said, half jokingly, that she wanted to go to one. So I took her with me to see PJ. She didn’t know who they were. I told my dad I wasn’t sure she would like the concert. But she had a great time.
A bunch of fans were around backstage and asked Eddie Vedder for his autograph, but his “people” pushed them away and said “no autographs.” My mom and I were sitting across the room. He saw my mom and came over. He said she must be Pearl Jam’s oldest fan. She told him the concert was wonderful and that he “did very well” (picture Southern grandma genuinely proud of you). He offered to give her an autograph, but she said it wouldn’t be fair to accept it with so many young fans that wanted one. She said she just wanted to shake his hand.
When we got home, my father asked her how she liked the concert. She said “I’m never washing this hand again!”

@@laurawatters914 I was totally in love with Eddie and such a huge PJ fan! My mom had a way of charming the socks off of everyone she met. Yeah that star in somebody else's sky lyric just hits home. We've all been there, I think. Lamenting a love lost and bemoaning it. Some of us are mature enough to know that it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all but most of us, like Eddie Vedder, just feel bitter as it becomes a black hole sun.
Anyway, it's one of the bestest/most poetic lines in the history of pop music (in my opine) because it's so ripe for interpretation.
This version is better than the album track, btw. So thanks for tuning to it. Cheers, Britt

Great choice! I've been doing this song in every band since college. I love how people always sing along when we play it. It's my vocal range, so it doesn't kill my voice as much as other songs. I still sing it, but an acoustic version. Eddie Vedder started this sound and Pearl Jam are way more legendary and talented than Nirvana. Listen to Jeremy when you get a chance. I auditioned on the Voice with that song. I lost a bet and that was my friends request. 😬 Have a good one! Slainte
