I’m in my 60s and have been listening to music my entire life. NO ONE sounds like Eddie Vedder. Not just his voice, but how he’s basically living within the song with his delivery and emotions. Which is super rare. When you figure it out, let us know. I love this band. In my top 10 of all time. Vedder’s voice is in my top 5.
If he reminds you of someone that means whoever you are thinking of reminds you of Eddie, he was the original lol. Pearl Jam was the best of all the "grunge" era bands in my opinion.
Absolutely, I'm wondering if he means like scott stapp cuz I feel like Scott tried to do some of the same stuff at times. I'm excited that pearl jam is going on tour this year!!!
I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life; I know you’ll be a star In somebody else’s sky; but why Still gives me chills and I’ve loved Eddie and this song since I was like 11 years old
He and the lead singer of Creed were often compared, although neither one of them liked it! So maybe that's who Eddie reminds you of? You should listen to their songs "Yellow Ledbetter, and "Jeremy. Both fantastic!
Another artist who has left his mark as one of the most amazing voices!! You may have to pull up the lyrics for some of his music. This song was so raw with emotion from his heartbreak from splitting up with his girlfriend. His songs hit your soul. Great reaction!
You have to do Jeremy by them. Is based on a true story. The lead singer Eddie Vedder went to school with a boy that shot himself in the classroom. That's what Jeremy is about. It's heartbreaking 💔
@@brianforrester9670 You're right. The part about getting hit with a surprise left is something that DID happen to Eddie by a guy that he was picking on in school in San Diego. Separate events from the events of Jeremy.
This is my favorite band of all time!!!!! Your reaction was seriously so refreshing! How you saw the range and style Eddie is capable of was really fun to watch. Like I watched it for the first time for the millionth time. Keeeeeep being you! ❤
You really should react to something more recent and incredible by Pearl Jam. How about "Pearl Jam - Just Breath live at Austin City Limits". Ed still has it and continues to. This is all about the lyrical meaning and absolute great acoustic instrumental.
Definitely one of my faves. This song is deeply personal. The lyrics are fire. We've all had that first love that we knew was forever. So hard to recover from. Great job ❤
I just watched a couple of your grunge reactions and nice work man. I can tell you are really appreciating the music. Pearl Jam had a heap of great songs. A couple of the albums were near perfection. Grunge was an awesome soundtrack to a wild post school life. I saw them a couple of times in Australia. Once in a skybox above the stage. It was epic. We need music like this today. Actual talent, musicianship, skill and emotion. Half of todays music could be done on a phone app without any skill, musical knowledge, or talent.
These 7 albums came out within 44 days of each other in late 1991. It was a very good year.: Metallica, Metallica (The Black Album) Pearl Jam, Ten Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion I Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion II Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar Sex Magik Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger Nirvana, Nevermind
@@newgrl Yeah, epic times. I saw them all live. There were also big albums from U2, Lenny Kravitz, Sepultura, Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More, Cypress Hill, REM, Primal Scream etc. By the end of the decade, the guitar solo had mostly been killed off and most tunes had become simple bar chord affairs. 1990 to about 1996 was a real sweet spot for quality music.
There are tons of guys that came after Pearl Jam that tried to "imitate" Eddie's sound. You might be thinking of Creed (Scott Stapp). This performance was from 1992.
@@glaucionazario Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) Chris invited Eddie to sing "Hunger Strike" with him on the album Temple of the Dog. Chris was a mentor when Pearl Jam was first starting. But they each have their own unique voice.
Eddie Vedder is a a huge Jackson 5/Michael Jackson fan. You can hear the influence throughout this performance but most people would never put it together. Good job on your part.
I'm thinking perhaps you heard them in passing back in school? He really does have that kind of voice that if you heard it even briefly a few times, years later you might hear it again and recognize it. My understanding is that he was actually very ill when they did this, a flu or something, and he had been particularly worried about doing this song, which is pretty demanding vocally. He seems to deliberately push himself, maybe to psyche himself up to it? Or maybe he just didn't want to use the sickness as an excuse for laying back. I believe some of the people you can hear really whooping towards the end were friends of his in the audience, aware of how he was feeling, encouraging him, and being impressed by how great he still sounded...
If i would put my wager in, i would say that the sound reminds you of the great singer/guitarist/songwriter Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Nirvana were both pioneers of Grunge, an music style born in Seattle.
With all due respect, I'm sure whoever you were thinking of sounded like Eddie. He is among the grunge gods. (Though I understand your frame of reference is based off of when you learned of them, not when they were released) Eddie Vedder's voice is iconic though.
Emotionally his maturity may remind you of Neil Young. He is able to express the song in a similar way as Neil, though in my opinion Eddie surpassed Neil in his ability to live within the emotion of the lyrics. Vocally, the ease with which he flips between head voice, falsetto, and diaphragm combined with his breath control make him superior to most, though Cornell had more octaves and was equally expressive. Great reaction!
Eddie Vedder was a _master_ lyricist with both an incredible voice and stage presence. But enunciation was... not so important. Sometimes, I'm not sure even Eddie knew what he was singing in Yellow Ledbetter. If you listen to more Pearl Jam, I strongly suggest you bring up the lyrics somewhere and follow along. The recorded song is a little bit different than this, but I think you would see the genius a bit better if you could understand more of what was said. "And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass of what was everything." One of my favorite lyrics lines of all time, from any band is: "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky. But why can't it be mine?"
You can’t figure it out? Nobody can fully understand it. It’s written metaphorically. The best Eddie did was tell us it was about a chick he loved and lost. Thanks. Not helpful. We all kinda picked that up. He’s annoying. It’s been almost 32 years. Help your fans out.
He doesn’t sound like anyone. Other people sound like him. He is unique in how he sang and others copied.
