Thats her approach in many reactions. That's the point of being a reactioner... find YOUR OWN way of reacting. IN most of Jennifers reactions I watched she is very focused on voice technique and the performance delivery. Cause what Eddie is doing is no accident - he does everything very much on purpose. And Jennifer analyzes it.
But she definitely touches elements of the music in her reactions and in this case, too - so I think your phrase "missed the whole point" is a bit exxagerated. Especially because the lyrics aren't reall a mystical piece of poetry but really very much clear in the face. Just because you don't mention something very obvious doesn't mean you don't get it. You just may be focused on something different.
In the end... if you don't like her approach, it's OK. There is tons of reactioners who aren't analytical at all but very or pure emotional. When you click on this channel you get a lot analytics and opinion about voice performance and delivery.

@BoothTheGrey totally disagree, the total disconnect from the emotion of the song has to be pointed out, if eddie sang every part as she described it then this song would never exist, I'd hate to hear the robotic version !! Here are people who agressively attack a reactionier for the exact approach this reactioner chose to do. To not like it, it's OK. Then just leave this channel. But to attack someone for doing exactly what he wants to do while not harming anybody but just making an offer... is absurd.
And your strawman doesnt help anyway. I didn't say that. And it doesn't matter what music is. This is a reaction channel and everybody who does a channel can chose what he does.
If those guys just would say "I don't like it - too few emotions" it would be absolutely OK. But the attitude is as if this channel does something really bad. Which just doesnt happen.

There is a lot to love about this performance but as a 30 plus year Pearl Jam fan my favorite is that tiny head shake in the first chorus where he got the words wrong. In the recorded version that line is different in the first chorus than the second. I just love that in the middle of this brilliant, emotive performance he has a "No, dummy, that is the wrong line" moment. I would really really love to see you do more Pearl Jam. Lots of people will ask for the earlier songs and they are good but I'd love to see you do more recent stuff as well. They just released an album earlier this year and still sound amazing.

Eddie performing live in the 90s was truly one of the all time greatest live performers of all time. You could very easily react to every song from Unplugged (including the songs that didn't air,) and all would be worthy. I also would highly recommend Pearl Jam performance of their song "Porch" at Pink Pop 1992. What Eddie does during the performance is pretty insane. I don't want to spoil it. Much of the song becomes instrumental because of what he does, but hearing him before, during, and after his "wild" performance is worth it because you can analyze his voice throughout the process. Thanks for reacting to this Masterpiece of live music.

To this one... not. And I listened to it back when the album was released a few dozen times - and later on here and then again many times 🙂

I’ll start by saying I’m biased because that is the era and the genre that made me love music but to me that is one of the most important performances in not only grunge rock history but rock history and mabye music history in general. I can’t get enough of it. I get in here just to listen to it at least once a month lol

Edit: That was wonderful Jennifer. As a PJ from from the beginning, it brings me much joy to see a professional appreciate Eddie, and perhaps more importantly, help me understand why i love his voice too. Stupendous job by you on this, thank you!!!!

This song has the hardest hitting yet most magnanimous LYRIC ever written. I think everyone kinda/sorta knows what I'm talking about. Even if I can't sing it.

I always love watching reactions to this song, specifically this performance. You mention how he shifts his body position and changes his voice to make us feel like he is connected to the song for the performance. However this song is very personal to him and initially fought the label to not release it as a single. What you see here, is not a performance. He's in that moment.
Love this song and hands down probably the best MTV Unplugged performance of all time.

"Jeremy" "Even Flow" "Yellow Ledbetter" are also Eddie Vedder, and they all come from different places and are quite different from each other, they're all good songs to look at.
Jeremy though is kind of heavy if you watch the music video and somewhat loosely based on a true story.

You have a great observation of how his singing style becomes personal at differing times. The song is about his ex-wife and how he feels cheated of the life they could have lived together. All that I've heard is that Eddie didn't want this track to become as popular as it did, but the fans' reaction was so intense he couldn't avoid it. It is extremely beautiful, personal, and tragic.

This is the voice that taught me where to find the place that opens up the deep bass in my voice, once I learnt to relax the restriction and open up the back of the throat I learnt to get a way fuller sound. Eddie really likes the R and Mmmm sounds rather than just move between vowels

Sierra Ferrell is a rising Americana, roots, country, bluegrass artist that just last week won best artist and best album of the year for Americana Honor Awards. She will probably receive a Grammy nomination in November in this category as well. Check out her Jeremiah song on UA-cam from the Grand Ole Opry or her American Dreaming song on UA-cam from Stephen Cobert late show performance.

In the 2011 book Pearl Jam Twenty, Vedder said about the meaning of the song: It's about first relationships. The song is about letting go.

Eddie Vedder can infamously be attributed (perhaps along with Layne Staley) with creating or popularizing what has become known as the "yarl". As you note, it is vocal style colored by a subtle "rrr" behind the vowels. A whole wave of lesser vocalists followed in the mid to late 90's adopting the style, Stone Temple Pilots, Seven Mary Three, Collective Soul, the whole of the post-grunge genre, etc.
