These days a lot of music is overproduced and just copies of former songs with the goal to make fast money. Back then music came from the heart, from the wish to express your feelings. And that's what the music was made of.

Eddie Vedder, bearing his soul. Heart-wrenching and hauntingly beautiful. I remember watching this live on MTV back in the day. I had so many VHS tapes of good stuff that happened on MTV. I used to watch this particular performance on MTV over and over and over. I love watching the younger generations experience the stuff we know and grew up with. I was 18 years old when this came out. GEN X 4eva! We had the best childhood. But we also had the worst. But all in all I would never want to have lived in a different generation.

Just about the greatest song of all time. Music is subjective, just my opinion, Eddie is the greatest song writer. Lyrically oustanding. Vocally awesome. And just a super cool dude. Ive been a very big Pearl Jam fan since I was about 15. They were a little before my age group. I caught on right before Vitalogy came out. Eddie is the GOAT! Grunge came along around '92 and Pearl Jam was an important part of that. What makes Grunge so notable was that it washed away a stagnant era of 80's Hair Bands, (don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great music from 80's Rock). But what makes Grunge remarkable was that conveying real emotion was important in the genre.

Classic Rock is 60-70's. This falls into Grunge which was Late 80's to mid 90's. Pearl Jam is one of the Big 3 Seattle bands that defined the Grunge era. Black is such a brilliant performance by Eddie. The song is about "Unrequited love." I think everyone feels an emotional connection to the song because we all have a moment like this in our lifetime. Truly is a brilliant, emotional masterwork.

Loved your reaction to it. I hope you dive a little bit into the grunge genre, there are some of the best singers in music history, many of them with tragic stories but in a way it helps understand where they got their inspiration from. Singers like Eddie Vedder, from Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Temple of the dog and Audioslave plus solo hits), Kurt Cobain, Laney Staley (Alice in Chains), Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) some of which were close friends but incredibly talented. Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington and Laney Staley I'd strongly recommend you to dive into

I am sorry for the wall of text, but I feel compelled to respond to the 'old music is better' sentiment.
We look back on older music and say, “Wow! This is incredible. I hate that I didn't see them when they were becoming a thing.” How many of the current greats do we listen to? Were we there from day one? I doubt it. We only know of the songs that made it through the test of time to us. How much trash has been produced that was forgotten about the moment it was finished? What about the songs that were huge for but a brief moment and then gone?
It's true that the barrier of entry to music is the lowest it's ever been, and that does come with a marked increase in quantity; this surplus of music is also not made with the same ratio of talent and/or skill as the older stuff, I will give you that. The majority of industry-backed music won't push boundaries, instead relying on being the least objectionable to the masses. However, I would argue in response that while we may have more low quality/effort music or boilerplate song structures, we also have more artist doing incredible things in music than at any prior point in history. One of the greatest changes in my opinion is the move to a genreless world. I don't know how far along we are, but fewer artist seem constrained to a single style than what I've seen in the past, and I think that this experimentation can only be good for the art form. I believe that we currently have the lowest lows of music, true, but I can look past that because I also think we currently have the highest highs.
One final point of interest is that the world of streaming provides us with the opportunity to select the music we listen to. Given that humans are creatures of habit, most of us will choose to spend our time on familiar and enjoyable songs because they are known. An unknown song has the potential to be absolutely amazing or just utter garbage, and to many people, that gamble is not worth the price of a few minutes to try out.
All of this is to say that great tunes never left, but you'll never find them unless you're looking for them.

70s or 80s?! I already feel old but damn! The is actually from the 90s during the grunge era. Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone were the grunge originators and gods during this time. It was an amazing decade for music. Just pure, raw music talent mixed with some pain and visceral emotion. But yeah, the 70s and 80s were amazing too! If you liked this (which it seems you did), then you should definitely check out Down in a Hole (MTV Live Unplugged) by Alice In Chains. I promise you will love it!

its 90's but it's easy to explain why the bands sounded much better. Today music is a corporate business and you can only get in if you sell your soul , doesn't matter how talented you are. They control everything, the radio, youtube, Spotify, even some media..
So bands are screwed from the beginning. You can't express yourself the way you want to. Back then you used to have one hit bands and some of their songs are still relevant. Today music revolves around people that write, compose and design music for the singers. The singers don't have any emotional investing in those songs.
Or else you have to go "indie" with massive paycheck cuts.
I wished that only applied to music but its the entire society.
Actually i'm going to watch Pearl Jam live in June (theyre coming to my country :P) but they can only do that because theyre established.

So, 5K views in a day for Pearl Jam which is great. If you would like to go viral and make that 50K in a day please let me know. I'm glad to supply a list of songs that will get you there. I viewed your upload history and you seem to only be reacting to the current generation of music. As cute as you are there's only one reason why you aren't getting huge numbers of views, and it's your song selection 100%.

Ok not gonna get into anything else, just gotta say it may have been a simpler time (it wasn’t) but far far FAR better music than what’s considered good music now.
