I feel this in my soul. I spent ages being terrified to paint my army because I've always sucked at art-y stuff so I just had a pile of lovingly assembled grey marines with no identity beyond their datasheets.
two days ago I finished painting the last mini that I actually had the paints for and they don't look great but I'm happy with how they turned out.

The order of the reactions is actually what gets me the most. The Space Marine doesn't cut him off, doesn't interrupt, and takes the time to note "You did not answer my actual question." *first* , before he executes the Heretics for the Glory of the Imperium, and I love it.
The other is that he sounds genuinely _Curious_ when asking all those Questions to began with. It sounds like Xenophobia if you were to read the script, but if you used the tone he used here, it sounds less Like Xenophobia, and more like "Why so self-destructive"???

At this point the "standard" human biology is probably the most artificial thing about humanity, considering they need to enforce a baseline with the threat of violence to keep people from going in entirely new directions.

The tragedy of becoming a Space Marine is that the man who is chosen is already dead from the moment he leaves his homeworld. He dies so that a servant of the Emperor may be born in his place.
I like the foreshadowing by the fact that the marine is literally unpainted. Devoid of any real identity beyond his appearance. And without that appearance, what is he really? That glaring lack thereof adds a bit of punch to the proceedings.
also horse skull guy is fully painted and full of character, we even give him a name. The space marine dude is just some marine, he may have a name but at the end of the day nothing sets him aside from his brothers.
Hey now, he does appear to at least have had his mold lines cleaned up.
Hence the "unsubtle" in the title
He is a creature with a rational soul.
And yet that space marine has already contributed to the survival of the human race more than an underhiver ever could.
Don't forget that Space Marines aren't asked when they're recruited either, and the only ones that become battle brothers are the ones that survive (not pass) training. They are victims of circumstance too, and they are doomed to a life of endless combat without rest nor reprieve.
Its easy to forget that even if Astartes are no longer human, they once were. Their helmets just hide it for them.

Hey Bruva. I believe I have some ideas regarding If The Emperor had a Podcast.
1: A Halloween special where the Emperor and the others talk about the Nightlords and Konrad Curze. You can have the Emperor summon the soul of Curze over to the podcast. That should put the Emperor's claim on being a great father to the test.
2: A Sanguinala special where the Emperor and the others honor the legacy of Sanguinius and talk about the Blood Angels and all their glory. You could have the Emperor summon Commander Dante to make it more interesting.
What if halfway through he makes them all eat Ork, and Burger Sanguinius visits them.
I'd like the Sanguinala one, I can't imagine who Dante's VA would be though, maybe Markiplier, he quoted Ciaphas Cain for 40k Theories. Oh, imagine if they also brought guys from the Blood Angels successor chapters, like the Flesh Tearers, or Angels Sanguine. It'd be cool seeing the calm and collected Dante, and then the absolute nigh on World Eaters that hail from some of the successor chapters.

If anything, his adventure would be about himself finding his own identity after giving himself the horse-skull to fight off the existential dread, and then wondering what actually means to be human in a galaxy that deems anything outside of it as heresy.

A space marine cannot remove his helmet until he has AT LEAST reached the level of Sergeant. Removing one's helmet is a privilege of rank.

Recently worked for an exceptionally large company. I got paid really, really well, but I was literally confused for other employees by management and generally treated like a cog in the machine. Quit and now I work for a local company. I get paid a lot less, but the President of the company chills at my desk sometimes and knows me by name.

this video got me thinking. It would be pretty awesome to make a space marine successor chapter whose warriors all adorn themselves with trophies of aliens and monsters they've slain.. Could make for a pretty awesome aesthetic.
It raises a good point about the entire philosophy underpinning the Imperium, even the idealised version from before the Emperor’s “death”. The Emperor claimed with one breath that he would lead mankind to rule the galaxy, and with another he intended to remake all mankind in the image of his primarchs, which would make them something other than human. I don’t remember where I heard that, so no source unfortunately.
