I came to this conclusion about three days ago when out on a walk and had to write this script so I did.
SORRY if I come off as elitist in any parts of this video, it isn't my intention, the 'epic space marine' parts are mostly hyperbolic, I'd be a hypocrite if I said I didn't understand the appeal.
If this helped convince you to try out some Inq28 modeling then YESSSSSSSSS.
Send me pictures on Instagram or whatever, just please make sure you send it to bruva_alfabusa and not the fake brony guy bruvaalfabusa who pretended to be me back in 2014 I am not joking I had the pleasure of seeing this account for the first time around 5 years ago now and it is SO weird, IN ADDITION, we discovered as recently as last week that he also made his own fake steam account and STEAM GROUP under the false guise of "brother alfabusa" and it fascinates me to no end as to why he would do this.
My Pauldron Fetish can slightly forgive you.
@@bravojr Giant massive pauldrons and humongous collars, the bigger the better, are, I'd argue, one of the best examples of what I am talking about in regards to aesthetics over practicality. It is amazing and important and good.
Two pauldrons fixed together makes a wonderful Invisibity Helmet...General Rid Stump!!!
I am just happy you are still alive.
“SORRY if I come of as elitist...” Bro, given how OBNOXIOUSLY popular TTS has become, I’d say there’s a lot of neck beards out there who have a fondness for the gross old grit of 80s and 90s Warhammer.
“Local man defends his sewer goblin fetish for 8 minutes.”
I've always thought the same about Warhammer's aesthetic, I just didn't know how to put it into words. Thank you for making this.
Fine! FINE! I will do an Inq28 project! You have coNVINCED ME!
we did it gang
@@alfabusaplaysgamesandishor2005 When it Dooms us all, We'll know who to blame.
I wish that the old Jon Blanche and horus heresy artbooks were used when making the admech models. Steampunk is cool and all but I miss that bodyhorror aspect they had.
"Sir this is a wendys"
Nice to see the inclusion of a piece of Will Rees' Rogue Trader artwork, his pieces from that book are some of my favourite 40k illustrations. In addition I couldn't agree with you more about how awesome horse skulls are when applied to non-horses!
its really rare that pillars in fan communities aren't emblematic of the more commonplace interpretations, so it's weird to see you refute what is probably the most popular understanding of the universe on the most inner level.
anyway you're completely right and just flawlessly explained something I've been trying to put into words for years, bravo.
I’ve gone through several different stages and had many interpretations of the setting since I got in, and it can clearly be seen in my content. But this is where I’m at now, I feel like I’ve got it figured out, let’s see if this is where I stay or if I drift somewhere even deeper in the coming years.
Don’t see myself arriving back at my 2008 ’Imperium Good’ interpretation though.
please post more of your iggies, i beg you father
Inq28 is crazy awesome, people really go all out with what they create for their campaign. My favourite would be a heavily decorated Imperial noble hunting party I saw a few years ago.
Btw, thank you for helping encourage me with my Space Pirate army, I have built a good 60 strong mixed race army over the last few months and have started to properly play tabletop with a friend running a campaign with my pirates dealing with an oncoming hive fleet’s tendrils on their asteroid belt hideouts.
I didn't know what Inq28 was before this video but I haw always loved the aesthetic.
8:32 will live rent free in my head
yo, this is EXACTLY WHAT I WANT FROM 40K! Even my space marines are painted in that grim, greasy gritty standard, because they're part of the imperial grinding war machine!!
My two cents:
I can't do photorealism in the slightest. Whenever I paint on canvas, I go with instinct and feeling, leaving abstract, twisted forms in dirty, muddled colours.
I feel like inq28 and blanchitsu allow me to really lean into my strengths as a painter, with ugly, harsh colours and jagged lines. From a painting point-of-view, inq28 and blanchitsu can really allow one to embrace the *frenzy* of artistic creation.
And that's why it's my favourite aesthetic.
That is SUPER valid and ENTIRELY correct!
I told a friend TODAY that Inq28 and Blanchitsu are incredibly friendly to amateur painters as it isn't really about 'painting within the lines'.
(Incidentally: also the reason my Indomitus box isn't fully painted yet. Giving every model the 'living abstract painting' -treatment takes a while.)
(I'm also very lazy)
I keep coming back to this video even after 8 months passed and I am now just 24 starting out making both my grey knights and guard armies separately being new to 40k. The aspect of agony is something rare to see celebrated as many like myself have gotten too used to the clean space opera that is Warhammer 40 thousand. However I think with alot of the lore you can take both sides with a grain of salt. Yes you have champions of humanity clean of filth and holy dictated to a noble clause of keeping the light burning across an entire universe. And those left in its warpath both mentally and physically.
"Except for squats."
I agree, Squats were done dirty and need to make a comeback.
space dwarf is pog
Well, their distant relatives are a faction now and they have a cyberpunk dystopia thing going on so thats pretty cool.
Okay this is perfect because I wanted to find some actual reference for this style. Time to spend a shitload of time of insta.
Thanks again you magnificent bastard.
Alot of HorusHeresy/30k players often go in the direction of Historical/Griminess. Me included. 30k AdMech is basically perfect for Grime.
_"AAAAAH LITTLE FIEND."_
Awesome video!! Happy to hear glowlabs music on this one!
Absolutely, thank you for the permission! Wish I had made the music a bit louder honestly.
Inq28 is an amazing aesthetic, i personally saw it as some of the first art that got me into 40k.
I play Salamanders, and while I really don’t like the clean primaris vibe, I think the 30k design choice is a good middle ground between clean and Inq28, if not leaning a bit further into Inq28.
Also before anyone tells me that Salamanders aren’t the good guys, I’m well aware of that. I just like green, and the forge and dragon aesthetics they have.
Salamanders are, like, objectively ’gooder’ than most Marine Chapters due to their relation with the civilian population but, yeah, they’re still _Marines_ so the bar is fantastically low.
@@alfabusa like definitely, I’ve heard it described as “a humanitarian Death Machine is still a Death Machine.”
@@dudeslayer4505 Exceptionally well put, I love it, that’s Salamanders, NICE
I've recently fallen in love with Turnip28. You are Napoleonic, but also root vegetable!
The end killed me XD
Beautifully spoken heresy! and of course absolutely spot on
An amazing breakdown. Gets at the real critical essence of grimdark, but I fear only a tiny fraction of the game's audience engages with the ideas on that level.
I am now convinced to do my Ashen Claws for Heresy as Inq28... the Halo Stars can make you go a liiitle nuts .. perhaps even nailing horse skull TO FAcE
That first piece of rogue trader art you showed really impacted on me when I saw it as a teenager ~30 years ago
Listen. If you just wanted people to add more horse skull heads to models... you could have just asked.
Anjou convinced, mission accomplished. Thank you again for using my wonky miniatures and music!
As much as I love Inq28 and love your interpretation of it, and I agree with most of it, I do have one point of contention: that of 'irrationality'. While the beliefs of the Imperium, no matter how much lore is retconned to 'justify' them, are not rational, and those of their real-world inspirations of fascism, capitalism, patriarchy, totalitarianism are not rational either, the methods they use to enforce them and the huge machines and structures of society that power them can be, and often are, grimly practical. So much of capitalist evil in our world is what happens when rational decisions are made with profit as the priority and human lives seen as expendable tools and raw material. Like the Adeptus Mechanicus making people into servitors simply because the human workers are not getting the job done fast enough for their standards. Fascism and capitalism, for all their insanity, are ideologies that exist to enforce separation between people and obedience to a ruling class. Irrational beliefs serve that. But rationality perpetuates it. So much of the service and labor of the machines of capital are driven by people who do not actually believe in the ideology, and are the most hurt by it, but make rational decisions for their own continued survival, in a society where going against what they hate would mean death or worse for them.
yes.

8:22 Ah, I was wondering when we'd be treated to the "Lubemaster Supreme" voice
Imagine not being subscribed to this channel and missing this premium content.
I've got a Beasclaw Raiders box and half an army of tyranids not only unpainted but UNASSEMBLED and you're making me want to spend more money because I want to try some of this with Imperial models...
Consider fucking up your Ogres and posting them under AOS28.
@@alfabusa Well I suppose that is an option but if I was that responsible with money I would have never gotten into this hobby lol
So when are we going to see the fantasy characters in a regular TTS episode :)?
@@EveMizgala This is.... valid.
Probably never? Maybe?
They'll pop up in the podcasts though when we actually get that sorted which we REALLY NEED TO...
@@alfabusa i do hope so. Those podcasts have helped me get through college, breakups and long work days. They are really some of my favorite things you've made.
I dont know if you know about Jimmy "Shin" Henriksson, completely awsome guy, both work-wise and person-wise, he used to play in the local club where you and I played (Warhound titan).
He has done alot of Inq28-esque stuff, I STRONGLY recomend you take a looksie at his work!
Edit: If you wanna play again my chaos guys longs for combat ;)
Extremely funny that you should mention him because his models are in this very video!!
I was in contact with him and he sent me a few models to display, super fun.
And I am deffo hankering for a game and have been for months, but I’m gonna go for ir when Den Rådande Situationen dies down a bit further. Thank you VERY much for offering!
@@alfabusa Sorry for the rather late reply!
Haha no way? "Shin" is such a nice person!
And we should make it happen after "håll-avstånd-håll-ut" calms indeed!
I've been planning on doing an Inq28 style men of iron army.
Wish I could find where the Horse Skull comes from
Very good and nice and funny ahah 10/10
Yes very good video is acceptable and agreeable
Woah woah woah, you put effort into this?! that's not allowed on this channel!
me love this
Inq28 is the Jeronimus Boch of Warhammer !
This game inspires Damnatus fanfilm
Mordheim is channeling the same kind of creativity for the Fantasy Folk.
Oh yeah absolutely, Mordheim is quintessential in this discussion.
I see, Anjou is a ShatFilms fan too
Virgin inq28 vs the chad oldhammer
Weird that you managed to talk about Inq28 without mentioning the GW game Inquisitor and it being played in 28mm, rather than the original 54mm (that no one ever wants to make terrain for, no matter how beautiful the 54mm models are!)
Bim Bob Bobafeast?
The Primaris failure To live up to the aesthetic of entropy is well, not even one of the main reasons I hate them, but I’ll add it to the big steaming pile.
You must not bind yourself to what the Primaris models are according to pre-established notions. Make them what they could be. Inq28'ing Primaris Marines is extremely good and valid.
Pardon my ignorance but what's the significance of 28
I'm just a minute into this video so the answer may be around the corner
Wait it's 28mm isn't it doh
What you describe sure as hell isn’t the Warhammer that exists today. Wish it was.
From that perspective, it has NEVER existed.
This Warhammer always exists, it is just clouded by an inconsistent corporate vision internally and the fandom’s inconsistent view of the setting externally. This has always been the case.
If you want this Warhammer, you can have it, make it your own, all the tools are available, join in on the fun.
Coming to this discussion late, but an observation:
I don't like the new Sisters Repentia and their "sanitized" appearance. I know why GW did it, so that mummy buying these figures for 10-year-old Timmy doesn't ask awkward questions about "the naked ladies wearing an apron", and is subsequently put off by the "deeply offensive material". (Assuming, of course). So they made them put sleeveless track suits on. Boring... compared to:
Unbounded crazed zealots, blinded to their own humanity and sense of self-worth, forced only to wear a long parchment scroll that's been painfully sewn to their abused flesh. On the parchment is written down in their own blood each of their long, long lists of crimes of heresy, treason, and jaywalking against the God Emperor of Mankind, Blessed Is He On Terra, with the explicit understanding that the only road to penance is a messy, bloody death. Death of the Repentia, death of the "other", it matters little. Eyes are nailed shut, tongues skewered by parchment with further appendices of crimes, hoods made of rags thrown over their mutilated faces, so that He on Terra may see them no longer. They charge headlong into battle, frothing and screaming religious platitudes in the vain, utterly mad hope that their actions now may give their souls some measure of reprieve from this living Hell... unaware their soul will then become playthings for the denizens of the Warp. For in the grim nightmare of the 41st millennium, there is no peace, no forgiveness, no understanding... no rationale. There is only unending madness and war.
Also, funny horse skull goblin, haha
I also prefer the old Repentia. I'm a leftist feminist, and so it may sound weird that I do, but I think their old depiction is more honest about the fetishization and psychosexual dynamics of fascism and patriarchal Christian zealotry. (this is why a lot of the accusations about warhammer 40k being more 'woke' now is bullshit- not only because they come from fascists and cosnervatives angry that there are more black and brown skin tones being painted, but because 40k now is not as honest and bold about depicting the horror of its ideologies as it used to be). The Imperium is always beating people into the shape of their idealized images, like Space Marines representing their masculine warrior ideal, and notably de-sexualized. Imperium's gender dynamics pretty clear in that contrast. The naked-except-for-religious-parchment Repentia covered in scars, driven by a whip-wielding superior, call to mind slavery and self-harm and BDSM with the consent removed (which is just abuse), the Imperium is driven by relationships of domination and punishment, not mutual partnerships. It also makes them exposed, for the purposes of dying easier. Nudity doesn't have to be sexual of course but it definitely denotes vulnerability here. Sexual domination and objectification has always been a key component of fascism and Christian theocracy, as it weakens the oppressed and makes them believe that their worth is defined by how appealing they are to their rulers. The violation makes them more traumatized and subservient.
Sadly the third party Repentia models I've seen look like they're made by people who just want to jerk off to them rather than anyone invested in a depiction of fetishized flagellant slaves. There is a balance to this- making sexualized models for the sake of it that look like they run on hentai proportions (cough cough wargame exclusive) does not equal a meaningful critique of psychosexual oppression.
i agree, this was a core part of both 40k and Fantasy, but GW in their greed decided to go marvel style and to get quick money by making the plot advence braking the Entropy with the End Times on Fantasy side and with the resurgence of primarques + broken marines + the silent king+ Ynead
they choose to brake the status quo and instead of focusing on a multitude of localised conflicts (which where the base in which every tablle top matches were grounded) they preffered to have world wide conflict for Fantasy and Galaxy wide conflict for 40k. Braking the status quo with OP character that can only make the plot moove forward will lead to the end of the story and an inevitable reboot like AOS.
This is a mistake, those universes worked for 35+ years because of the entropy and the status quo not because their was a progression toward a big goal.
I am absolutely in agreement, but, I have to quickly add that AOS has been super great in regards to their 'progression' and the consequences of the Gods actions, quickly exacerbating entropy in the micro. The Gods of AOS are the power structures given physical form, and the idea of living a mere mortal life in realms wherein these unknowable, mythical creatures could turn you to nothing through their mere presence is a cool and quintessentially Warhammer concept.
40k has been less effective in this regard, without doubt.
I am especially disapointed by GW's handling of the Ynnari and Ynnead. Like they are basically THE faction for entropy and death. But then they have been... forgotten? Swept under the rug?
@@x3tc1 lol swords of morai-heg lol lmao
I have yet to see a video about this Inq28 that at any point does anything more than pontificate about setting and aesthetics. No one ever talks about how they actually play this shit.
Didn't take you for an SJW...you have lost my respect and my sub from your main channel. 40k has never been and never will be satire, the Imperium is fundamentally good. Everything you are saying is headcanon, why would the Imperium hate thought and survive for 10k years? How would Cawl exist if it hated thought? And your rant against "traditionalism" is...ugh. How can you make so much 40k content and not understand that it is a celebration of traditionalism and its virtues, and that this alongside the realistic grey morality is what makes it a good universe and helps it stand out from other scifi?
Wait hold on, I have seen another legendarily funny comment from you before and, like, it reads like satire, and this does too, PLEASE, I beg of you, break kayfabe, tell me this is a joke so I can rest, the idea that this could be written unironically haunts my brain, please....
@Bruva Alfabusa Funny how you didn't address my arguments and immediately went to bash me. Typical leftism. Address my points, then we can talk.
@@moomoo8671 I literally have a screencap of you calling the intro blurb used in every 40k novel since the 80s ’grimderp fanfiction’.
And I am pretty sure you just tried to ’cancel’ me on instagram?? If you aren’t the same person then lol holy shit what are the odds you use the exact same arguments, writing style and posted all these things within the last 48 hours.
@Bruva Alfabusa Why would I "cancel" anyone? Instagram? I just checked your instagram, no one is attacking you on your most recent post, it has 2 or 3 "good job" comments. Why would someone cancel you for posting mini pics?
And, again, it's hilarious you fail to address my points and instead attempt to divert to another topic.
@@moomoo8671 Oh no, it was not on my model pics, it was in the tags.
But, OKAY, giving the benefit of the doubt. You are not the same person (you do have slightly better grammar I am noticing right now) AND you unironically hold this belief and this is not funny satire...
Your ’points’ are dead on arrival.
The very intro blurb that you cited as ’fanfiction’ explicitly calls the Imperium the grimmest regime imaginable. This is because it is, alongside every other shitty regime in 40k.
This has been part of 40k’s thesis statement from the very beginning, alongside this very intro-blurb.
