Also how to check oil level. Add the 4.6 litres. Put the dipstick in. Start the bike and let it idle for 90sec and stop the engine. Then let sit for 3mins. Recheck and add oil if need to the max level.
Another thing I want to add, check your oil at least every month. My Rocket 3r after an 8 month interval burned a quart and a half. I do the oil change once a year because I ride it under 10,000 miles per year but now I will start checking regularly. There's a guy that bought my Red Rocket 3r 2020 and only put 4 quarts of oil on an oil change. He ended up blowing the motor on a 2000 mile trip. I got lucky I haven't done any long trips on the Rocket 3r in awhile.
If your losing about a quart of oil over a year it could be the o rings in the crankshaft position sensor need replacing..it will leak oil but never drip just a oily patch around the sensor..has been a common issue for many owners.
Authentic indeed, I really enjoyed it ( it happened the same to me with the funnel...:-)))); I'd like to see a video about fixing the front fender rattle.....
A careful reading of the owner's manual instructions does indicate removal of 4 fasteners (two for the lower cowl and two for the radiator lower surround) and the oil quantity is also listed in the Note on the same page (4.6 liters or 4.9 quarts). Just saying. . .
Thanks for that catch, we bought an early 2020. Maybe that owners manual was updated. What page numbers? We used the manual during the video. Take care Cleve, ODTRP
According to the instruction booklet, I filled 4.6 l and let the engine idle for 90 seconds. After 3 minutes of standing still, the oil level is exactly in the middle between min and max. Now I wonder: top up to max level or leave it as is?
@@OnDownTheRoadProductions As you will know, according to the book it is ok for the oil level to be between min and max after 90 minutes of running and 3 minutes of standing, so I am going to leave it that way. Thank you very much for your advice! Greetings!
hello, by the service works one question: when i fill the tank and lock the inner fuel cap, after some time is it possible to open (unscrew), even is locked. do you noticed it also, or only i have faulty piece?
So what you are saying is the Rocket 3’s maintenance is more like a Honda than a Harley. Look at buying a Rocket GT. Trying to see what the cost of ownership is.
Hey! Great video! I used your video for reference when I was doing my oil change and it went great! I just had one question. I see you used Motul 15W-50 4T 5100. My dealer provided me with Motul 15W-50 4T 7100 and specifically told me not to use anything else. I don’t really know the difference between the oils ( they are the same viscosity) but I wanted to point this out in just in case. Either way once again, great video!!
Rocket3&Me - We are very flattered and thank you for this positive feedback. Detroit Triumph provided the 5100, and now this requires an investigation for a future Rocket 3 GT video. Our goal at ODTRP is to be authentic, sincere and share our passion. Thank you again for your support and encouragement. Terry, Theresa and Piper
I'm a newRocket 3 GT owner and appreciate your informative videos.
Thank you!
Great video, much appreciated, did mine yesterday on my 3R and watching the video first just made everything much easier, thanks.
Glad it helped our Best Anjan
I did mine for the first time the other day. You don’t need to remove the shroud. Just the 2 back screws and pivot it forward.

Great advice, we have an oil change falling within the every 8 month interval you recommended. Our motor has been flawless.
Hello, lovely video. I wanted to ask - don't you have to keep the bike straight as per the owner's manual while checking the oil
No, per my dealer I was shocked too
@@OnDownTheRoadProductions thank you

Seriously on Rockets? Have not had any oil loss, we use ZMax
@OnDownTheRoadProductions Has been a issue for some owners...easy fix by replacing o-rings...it's on r3owners forum.
@ironwarrior8890 awesome thank you so much got it

There is no front fender rattle, if there was on any bike just tighten the screws.
I will admit, I liked the oil filter location on the old Rockets better. Didn't have to remove shrouds or anything.
Some questionable editing otherwise that was very helpful thank you. Now I'm going to try to change mine today
Glad it helped thanks for watching ODTRP
Thanks for the vid. What did you do about the service light?
Had my dealer reset it
Helpful. Thanks.

I would leave it as oil moves around engine etc. and you change oil at good intervals

Has that bike frame had contact with the pavement? Looked like some of the metal was peeled back on part of the frame
No, some road debris on a camping trip
Great video. What did you use to reset the engine light? Thanks.
The dealer 🤬
Will you do spark plugs as well? How easy is it to replace them?
Also reset service light. And drive oil.
We will Christopher
@@silverstreamfoundry4104 I just leave the service light on, my dealership wants to charge $75 to turn off light because Triumph charges them.
How did you reset the oil life. I put Amsoil in my bike on my last service the bike did not like it very noisy and rattly on hot startups.
Had dealer do it after oil change, took a minute
Thanks. I needed this video
Would you do spark plugs please 🙏
Soon

Sounds faulty, bummer
Thanks!!
Don't ever do any tightening of sump plugs, bolts or filters without a torque wrench set to the manufacturers specified torque!
Great job
Thank you Reidao, very kind words indeed. Our best, ODTRP

Possibly more Honda like no Don. Everything is easy to get to on The Rocket for the most part. Best, ODTRP

When did you pick up your GT and how many miles do you have on it so far?
12459 as of today, mainly motorcycle camping miles. In total 2596 miles this year 2022 and then add to that Goldwing miles. Picked up January 2020
@@OnDownTheRoadProductions I got my GT on 18 Jan 2020. Im just a tick under 20K miles.
Not sure why it has 3 oil plugs. My Harley only has one.
It only has 1 oil plug. The DCT has 3 or something like that
