Thats why the video lists the engine number where the locations changed. Older models have them on the front and back. The process is pretty much the same aside from drain location!
About to do my first oil change on my new (to me) 2006 Rocket. I'll watch some more of your videos and see what other kind of maintenance you've done. I plan on doing plugs, gear oil, valve adjustment, etc. I also agree that oil changes should be done every 5-6000 miles. However after watching Project Farm's video on oil filters, I'll never use a Fram in my life lol
I took my Rocket in to my Triumph dealer for routine service and was promptly scolded by their head wrench for using a Fram oil filter on a previous oil change. We changed it out to an OEM Triumph filter and for about a dollar more than the Fram and about 30% less than a highly touted K&N filter. Lesson learned.
Thanks for your video. This is very useful. My 2015 manual says that I should use 10w40 or 10w50 or 15w50. So what is the difference between these types of oil? Why did you decide to use 10w50 instead of 10w40?
Good video like how you torqued the bolts down. But definitely over tightened that oil filter. Only need 1/4 turn past the friction spot "when you first feel the filter gasket touch" other wise great video. Fantastic machine you got there.
you all probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my account password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Roland Raphael i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hello, going to do my first oil change. Did you just add that 5,4 litres right away or what, cause manual says "When the engine is firststarted after an oil and filterchange, at least 1 to 1.5 litresof oil will be required to top-up the oil tank to the correctlevel" Doesn't that mean i should first add 4-4,5 liters of oil, then let it idle for a minute, and then add the rest 1-1,5 liters :)
With my bike it consistently needed the 5.4l so i would add in that amount and just check the level after it idled. For you or anyone doing for the first few times I would suggest 4l to 4.5l then idle then check the level and adjust.
sooo I have already changed oil once on this pig... But it was last year and I knew it had more than one drain plug... so a simple quick search told me YUP 2 plugs... Well 2 plugs for some years... Not my 2011... Needless to say I will now be changing oil again tonight as I didn't drain the oil tank... Thanks for the video. a quick 10 min review would have saved me 50 bucks and an hour of work. Shame on me. Subbed.
Happens man its definitely a unique machine! If you head over to r3owners.net they have tons of helpful stuff on them plus mods to make them even sweeter!
@@thewhingnut thanks for responding, i researched google and not getting any info, not even the oil type, i'll have to download a manual, thanks...perhaps you could make a video on this...
As with everything it depends on what you like. I love my Rocket, but it's definitely not a beginner bike. I would recommend riding various bikes to find what you like best. So far it's been very reliable for me. Better is a very subjective term. I prefer mine over the Harley's I've ridden but that's my personal preference.
Glad I watched this I only removed front and rear oil plug and not the oil tank plug wich the madroity of the oil was lol
Yeah that can happen
Thanks! Going to do the same tomorrow for the first time on this bike
I watched several vids about where the oil drain plugs were .my 2005 rocket 3 plugs were on front and back and one in middle bottom of oil pan

I Love the sound of my Triumph.

Nice job big guy" not for nothing but its 25 nm or 18 fp just for kicks and giggles! "Be Safe"
Lol Thanks man!
How did you get a pan under we yours my 2005 is too low to get a pan under it
I used a low profile oil pan and a 1x6 under the kickstand
Loving you footage hacks

Did they give a reason why?
@@thewhingnut I imagine the triumph dealer had a reason for insisting on genuine triumph parts, but I wonder what it may be?
Not as bad as I thought. What the size of the filter Please
Can u make a video about changing rear differential oil I've been looking there arent any videos
i was planning on it with the next oil change.
Ok thanks i hear its not much to it but i just wanna know the process
@@shampton1 i'll have one up before too long.
Its up! Bevel box oil change is the lastest vid
Bevel box gear oil change video is up as requested!
Gracias 🙏 gracias 🙏 gracias 🙏

Recommended to me by a very good Triumph Mechanic
@@thewhingnut Thanks to your video, I've changed the oil in my R3T by myself.
Is 10w 50 Valvoline oil good for the bike and should it be fully synthetic or not
So to be honest it's what triumph suggested in an updated service advisory before I got the bike.
I had no issues with it.

@Roland Raphael It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account !
@Toby Ezra happy to help =)
Is the drain plug torque 25nm the same for all 3?
@@leo.mottta yes

Where did you get the seat from? part #?
It was new old stock from a local dealer. No longer available 😢
Thanx Bro 👍🏼🍻😇
no problem i hope it helps!

Nice vid good details.

Nice! he more rocket owners the better! thanks for watching!
triumph rocket 3 gearbox fluid change? does the engine oil lubricate the gearbox? or is there separate oil for the gearbox?
No it is a separate oil change

@@candymintz i did its on my channel under bevel box oil change!
@@thewhingnut saw that vid but that's the back axle, i was looking for the transmission/gearbox oil

Yayyy fresh oil
that is a rocket 3 touring not a roadster
It is but its the same engine just a different tune, and rear setup. The oil change should work fine for both
@@thewhingnut i have the roadster 14' white stripe you are correct same exact engine tune differently and better on long trips than the roadster.
Which headlights are those sir?
Sunpro 7" harley kit in black 45 watt.
I found it on amazon. I cut the harley connectors ends and hardwired. That leaves the connetor at the bulb side intact.
@@thewhingnut I always wondered how that worked! Haven't done much of splicing or soldering but I think I get it. Thanks a lot for this information.
@@sagarthapa3765 no problem ive had them since 2017 and love them. I thought about upgrading to the 75 watt 7" but its overkill
@@thewhingnut Haha i think you should, 2.3 L engine begs for overkill in my opinion haha
Do you have heated grips?
5.4 Liters???
Yes indeed 5.4L for filter and oil change or 5.9L for filling from dry. Dacey is a thirsty girl.
Or 5.7 quarts oil change and filter and 6.2 quarts from dry.
Is this a good bike reliable and don't break down? And is it better than harly? I only get one chance to buy a new bike and I'm thinking triumph

Is this a reliable bike?... any problems?
I find its reliable ive had it for 7 years and 20k miles with only regular maintenance. I do commute with it a lot so i burn up a lot of rear brakes.
Turn on the light!
