Special Weapons for Tanks | Star Trek Online

- Hello everyone -- I received a few comments asking why I didn't include several specific unique or special weapons in my energy types for tanking video last month. As a response, I have made this video talking about all of those unique weapons (along with their corresponding sets -- as many weapons have their power with their sets). As thus, you can think of this video also as: Energy Types for Tanks -- Part 2.

The Wide Angle Quantum Torpedo Launcher also comes on the T5 Assault Cruiser Refit. If someone is intent on purchasing a ship just to get that torpedo then the T5 version is a little cheaper.
Thanks for the clarification! I don't use T5 starships too much, so there is a lot there that I often overlook.

I tank extensively myself. And i've found the best weapons for tanking are either those whose procs are DoT or control debuffs, because very few things anger enemies quite like constant over-time damage, or movement restrictions/disables etc. The other main awesome weapon for tanks, ive found, is refractive weapons, like the Ba'ul Antiproton ones. Im considering doing a vid on tanking myself, outlining things from my perspective
The STO community can always use more people talking about tanking -- especially with the many different effective ways to do it. I say go for it!
2:05 i DON´T recommend to get the ship for the 3 piece bonus ... it is only granting your Hangar Pets a *"Rank 1"* for 10 seconds :(

Agreed, the 3 piece obelisk set isnt that great anymore. However, the console? Hells yes! Total demon console - never leaves my tank's console slots, for any reason
Regarding the Dyson proton weapon, there is a duty officer that I use with this. He enables Fire at Will and Scatter Volley to work on that Proton Weapon.

great video ! thank you , keep it up ^^ , with 'entwined tactical matrices' starship trait the Morphogenic Armament is really powerful ! all you have to do is use Torpedo Spread I II III and you got all the juicy 3pc set bonuses !
FYI at the end of 2019 agony phaser torp was available via Phoenix lockbox drop
you may not beleave this but i have the agony torp project on one of my character to finish up. I didnt have a good enough computer to play for 2 years but a frind locked in the project for me
Have you, or are you planning a video on special weapon attacks from consoles?
I haven't made a dedicated video to this, and probably won't anytime in the near future. There are some cool ones though.

The unlocks are account wide IF you earned the ship during the event. This unlock was made retroactive for all prior event ships a player had to grind to earn, starting with the 2012 Christmas Chel Gret.
However, purchasing those ships now with a Phoenix pack token(or 600 lobi, for the Dyson Science Destroyer) only gets the ship for the purchasing character. That isn't account wide. And it isn't an unlock for that character, so a discarded ship cannot be replaced except with another token.
There were a few event ships a player didn't have to grind for. These ships, such as the original Odyssey / Bortas, the Obelisk Carrier or T5 Ambassador / Kamarag, were awarded for a single playthrough of a featured mission. Those ships were not converted account unlocks. The Ambassador was a exception. A couple months before Delta Rising was released, there was a one-day giveaway which made the Ambassador an account unlock. The Klingon equivalent, the Kamarag, was not included in that giveaway. Klingon players were disappointed, but not really surprised Cryptic left them out again.
is there anyway to make a shuttle powerful enough to take out a ship stronger than a t2
On normal difficulty you can do it if (1) you choose a shuttle with 2 bridge officer abilities, (2) if you use strong starship traits, and (3) if you use 2+ sets on the shuttle, one of which needs to involve a torpedo [that much I know for sure from experimentation]. Check out the shuttle list on the STO Wiki for a shuttle you may be interested in, but make sure it has 2 BO abilities or it won't perform well. sto.gamepedia.com/Small_Craft
I haven't been involved in the shuttle meta much for a long time, so I can't tell you what is most optimal (and I am confident few people have honestly) -- which can make them quite fun to fly in friendly fleet PvP events, as most people have no idea what would be best to put on them. I only know enough on how to not die when flying them & eventually beat enemies the slow/steady way (or just the tank way...), not necessarily what is the best DPS loadouts for them.
Do you mean taking things out solo in shuttle?
I remember tanking for a guy who used the T1 science vessel in the infected conduit elite tfo. His ship actually had less hull than a shuttle, and he managed to kill quite a few things and get a good end result to say it was a T1. Being that brittle, if anything even sneezed in his general direction, he would blow up. It was a SciTorp build, obviously with very limited armament, equipment, and seating. He ended up with like 90k or something on one particular run. Crazy for a T1

Hate it when they make one console of a set only obtainable through buying an expensive ship, sucks having to spend so much money on a ship just for a console to complete a set.
It’s one extremely greedy game in terms of having to pay over and over again.
Considering you can buy a complete brand new top rated game for around the same cost of a ship.
The micro transactions in this game are a mega rip off, so many times have I bought something and regretted it almost straight away makes me not want to recommend this to friends, I though R* were greedy but arc is 100 times worse.
Purchasing zen is ridiculous but then to have lobi and lock boxes takes it to the extreme, it’s like buying lottery tickets or scratch cards and I’m so tempted to put in a complaint to a governing body that restricts gambling in games because it’s an absolute rip off and more than unfair to players!
Given the IP, im sure a lot of people spent far more money then they should have on lockbox gambling.
Agreed, wish they'd made the obelisk set's console more readily available, but i can understand why not. 20 seconds-long taunt and large resistance boost, first 10 sec gathering incoming energy, then last 10 sec up to 200% energy dmg reflection, and only 1 min cd.
Awesome tank console, especially since they removed the ship restriction (used to be limited to the obelisk ships as far as i was told) allowing any ship to now slot it.
