This is with my build on my heavily-invested FED Tactical captain in the game, so many of the gear/traits may not be available to you -- but may give you some ideas for those of you thinking about this starship.

Your build videos have helped me get better at understanding game mechanics so thanks! Do you have recommendations for changes to this build if you’re an Engineering or Science captain?

For engineering & science, you can go a little lighter on survivability -- change out Shield Overload starship trait for Redirecting Arrays. Some of the tac's traits can't be used for eng/sci. Science captains would just choose another trait from the dps traits list on STO Builds in its place. Engineering captains should use Grace Under Fire (free trait, makes Miraculous Repairs the cooldown of a regular clickie console) and EPS Overload from the exchange (also EPS Manifold Efficiency if you want ridiculous power).

I would say that if you don't have anything better thanks to activeble D.O.M.I.N.O. is good enough to use even if you don't have a phaser build (I'm using it on my polaron build engineer, though she's not a tank).

Honestly I rarely see any build that doesn't flesh out the Tac Officer skill tree (though some torps run the Science side). There just isn't enough impact on the tree in comparison to ship/equipment/traits to do anything else. It's a little sad because I'm a big fan of high impact build choices within games.

On option 2, in the Lt. Commander Universal, why wouldn't you run Emergency Power to Shields 1, Emergency Power to Shields 2, and Reverse Shield Polarity 2???

Well done. Just curious, are you using keybinds? I’m a Console player and a lot of these builds on PC are quite difficult to manage on PS4, if the abilities have to manually activated.

I really wish I had the console experience so I could tell you what is easy and manageable. If I did, I could tell you exactly how to get up the automatic ability system that exists on console optimally for it; I’ve watched people play on console, but watching isn’t the same as experiencing it yourself. This is the stuff I use keys for anyways in the game that isn’t clicking...
Number Key 1: Distribute Shield Power - the ability I constantly spam as a tank player, and works well. You can technically click the ship icon on PC to do it as well, but pushing the key lets me worry about other things instead and keep the mouse around the other abilities.
Number Key 2: Hanger Bay, if present on the ship. This is simply because since I don’t like hanger bays & pets, I have it there so that I don’t forget to use them at all on the ship if present. I don’t use hanger commands, I just let them do what they want to do.
Number Keys 3-5 (or 2-4 or no hangers): proactive Tactical or Science career powers
      (Engineering is mostly reactive)
Tactical: Go Down Fighting, Attack Pattern Alpha, & Fire on My Mark
Science: Sensor Scan, Subnucleonic Beam, & Scattering Field
      Tab Key: switch between enemies.
Everything Else - clicking the individual power. I click all other powers, bridge officer abilities & console clickies in the game, or clicking on allies to send a directed heal their way. That’s about as intensive as I get. I personally want to feel as a captain on one of the TV shows that calls out each command - and I feel that intensive keybinds breaks that immersion for myself personally. I do understand it is needed in a way to make the game playable for console. -- but without personal experience in that system's mechanics I won't be able to tell you how to make the game experience more manageable.

@@CounterYoloGaming well your reply will help point me in a direction for at least some of those abilities and the order I should try and arrange them in. I'm always working on my piloting in the game and the timing of abilities vs their cd's. As far as immersion goes with having to activate abilities so you feel like you are an actually captain, you would soon have a change of heart about that if playing on console and you've done your 4th red alert in a row, trust me this.

How did you get the Iconian Warp Core to be W-S?

What are your recommendations for this build if you wanted to make this have higher dps, still tanky, without going full on dps?

Check out YwoskiHG's streams on Twitch, and pay attention to his Styx Dreadnought Cruiser builds -- those are his tank ones. He's one of the best active tanks in the game right now.

Larger the ship the quicker that that ship get hooked up and hang on space objects at odd times

I haven't looked but have you done one for Federation Tactical PvP? I have a TRY NX Refit Escort that I'm working on. I was really good but have been away from the game for 6 months and looking to get to where I was. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I feel bad for you, but to be honest I am not qualified for giving advice for PvP builds anymore. I do 1v1's against others from time to time, but that's about it. In the past, cruisers were hard to play in PvP, but still possible to use. The recent c-store Narendra's console made cruisers basically impossible to play now in PvP so I haven't kept up with the meta for a while. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more channels that talk about the PvP meta regularly. Considering that there is a market for a primarily tanking/survivability channel (which isn't popular in its own right in the game), you would think that more public PvP channels & discussion could also work well and be beneficial for that community.
Someone in the past on the channel offered to give me advice for the PvP meta in STO on the channel, but I declined as I felt that wasn't fitting to just give the opinions of others on the channel.

@@CounterYoloGaming thank you for the quick reply. I understand and will just use trial and error. So many new traits and consoles in the game, not in the market to spend $500 to $1000 to catch up right now

Would the skill tree set up be good for tanking in the new Gagarin Miracle worker?

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому

Adjust this skill tree for less accuracy & defense and add more Engineering & Tactical Readiness in the bottom of the skill tree and it can work ok. Keep in mind if you want to tank on the Gagarin, I'd recommend using a fleet embassy console alongside the History Will Remember trait so that you pull enough threat with the lack of the Command: Attract Fire cruiser ability if you want to tank in HSE (a big reason Command: Attract Fire is so great is because it not only enhances your threat, but also significantly lessens the threat of allies around you; another threat console won't shore this deficit up completely, but it will at least help some). I will probably go in more depth on skill trees soon, as I have received A LOT of emails on the subject the past few weeks.

@@CounterYoloGaming thank you for the input. Skill trees are always the hardest thing to find information on for sto. Can find build after build, but not all of them go into skill tree abilities, and then most of the ones that do, don't explain why. You do a great job explaining a lot. You have quickly become my favorite sto UA-camr.
