    Banning an easily accessible weapon in PvP, because it's effective, is as dumb as banning jumping or blocking in a fighting game.

    great video!
    for *"Voth Antiproton"* to be worth something STO would need an encouter you can not Kill and he would need to deal insane Damage.
    Because *"Voth AP"* proc can stack multible times - it would help you to survive ... but there is no mission or NPC like that
    so it remains its "worst weapon" title

    Just found this and I'm having to bite my lip to keep from laughing over the Discovery rep speculation. Not because it was a bad speculation but because they went and gave us what are, for all intents and purposes, a selection of Fleet Consoles instead.

      For consoles, the lorca tac console from the Disco rep is strong for just about any build right now (the 2-piece with the torpedo is also super noteworthy for beam builds). The rest of your tac slots can be filled with fleet vulnerability locators (for dmg) or fleet colony energetic protomatter matrix infusers (for easier passive survival) -- using whatever specific energy type you are going for on your build. Outside of that, cheap consoles from my old budget beam tank video are good consoles to start with (I'll have a redo of the budget builds in a few weeks or so as an fyi). Others from the exchange or specific starships (like the DPRM) are also nice to get eventually -- all depends on what balance of damage vs survival you are looking for on the starship.
      For the space set, here's the current rough energy meta (others can work as well):
      Deflector: Fleet Colony Deflector (due to ColCrit) is the meta right now for basically all builds. 2 variants (one more dps & one more survival -- generally choosing the dps one is better here)
      Engines: Competitive Rep's Engines (3 variants, engineering or tactical both work)
      Warp Core: Fleet Elite Spire Warp Core (as long as it has the EPS it is good) or Disco Rep's Warp Core (if have disco shields for 2-piece hull regen)
      Shields: Disco Rep's Shields (extra shield pen for dps) or Competitive Rep's Shields (2-piece survival with engines)
      For bridge officer abilities, my personal choice with that ship would be a half-batt with photonic officer for cooldown management. Due to the morphogenic set, polaron builds have different bridge officer requirements than other builds -- so here's 2 options below:
      Suggestion (Polaron):
      Cmdr Eng: EptEngines 1, Aux-to-Batt 1, EptWeapons 3, Reverse Shield Polarity 3
      *Get 3 technician duty officers for aux-to-batt that are the cooldown variant; rare officers work -- VR is ideal eventually but not needed initially
      *Also get the Emergency Conn Officer from Phoenix Packs at the "Rare" rarity for extra mobility with EptE -- it's about a 40% chance per box to get Rare or higher, so getting a pack of 10 phoenix boxes from the dil store just about guarantees getting at least one for the duty officer.
      LtCmdr Tac: Tac Team 1, Attack Pattern Beta/Delta 1 (your preference), FAW 3
      Lt Sci: Hazard Emitters 1, Photonic Officer 1
      Lt Uni (tac): Torp Spread 1, Cannon: Scatter Volley 1
      *With the Morphogenic 3-piece, you get extra CritH/CritD/Dmg for spamming FAW, CSV, & TS
      Ens Uni (eng): Engineering Team 1
      Suggestion (non-Polaron):
      *just the Lt Uni & Ens Uni change from the previous build
      Lt Uni (eng): Engineering Team 1, Directed Energy Modulation 1
      Ens Uni (tac): Torp Spread 1 (if you are using a torp) or Kemocite 1 (if only beams)

    Thanks for the video, but couldn't you have uploaded this a week ago lol, I'm just kidding.
    Last week I tried doing a little research for an energy type to use, preferably the most effective one, (ever since the enemy buff spikes on PS4, it's becoming difficult to find a way to counter it, to a point of almost giving up on the game altogether) anyway, I was looking for the best energy type to use, but couldn't find any clear information on it, so I ended up wasting dil on the worst possible type of cannons as it seems, being it was the very first one in your video lol. I was looking for survivability and extra damage, my disruptor cannons do great, most of the time, but when those spikes I've mentioned happen, it gets quite annoying.
    I probably have mentioned this before, but for those that don't know what's the enemy buff I was talking about, normally I am pretty much invincible with how my ship is set up, but every now and then, there's a noticeable spike in the enemies where they pretty much one shot everyone, and hardly take any to almost no damage, I had STFs where most people just straight up left because of that, people don't like to get blown up over and over, myself included, and even my most tanky ships don't stand a chance when it happens, I get pulverized in a matter of a second, and it's infuriating to say the least.

      I'm sorry that this video didn't come out in time for you. Videos like this one take a LONG time to make, especially as tier lists for tanking in STO don't really exist and I have to pave my own path and reasoning for it all. I find energy types to lose their effectiveness at higher levels. For example, plasma burn, disruptor breach, and phaser subsystem offline effects never occur for me anymore, and tetryon shield drain is non existent. The only useful energy type would be antiproton since it has a flat crit bonus. It's mostly down to personal taste and what you want to use. For me, I try to be as "standard-issue" as possible to scratch that OCD canon-friendly itch.
    E.g fed phasers, Dom polaron, KDF disruptors, romulan disruptor/plasma hybrid etc.
    It doesn't really matter what type of weapon you use because they all have the same stats when you strip the bonuses. What matters most is maximising your critical chance to get the most out of your DPS. You could even have every single energy type on one build for giggles, as long as you don't mind going for a shallow but broad weapon damage bonus like 10% extra beam damage from consoles/sets, as opposed to 20% from a specific energy type. (those numbers were examples; the real bonuses can go upwards of 30%). But if being canon isn't your thing, then you can never go wrong with some antiproton dual heavy cannons.

    Can we expect more videos like this for exotic builds or torpedos?

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +1

      I probably can do a video like this one for torpedoes if that is desired, though I am not sure I could it as effectively for exotic builds as they rely heavily on specific mission/set weapons in the endgame to be effective. What could be more manageable for me in a video to address exotic builds would be to list some of the general build strategies (the regular 6 energy types alongside torpedo & exotic) and giving some highly-recommended sets to use with them. I'll think on it more to see if I can find a good way to talk about exotic damage options inside of the game without just giving a build.

    • @MyNameIsBucket
      @MyNameIsBucket 5 років тому +1

      @@CounterYoloGaming Actually, now that I think about it, a real helpful video would be explaining all the different kinds of radiation damage. I know some are buffed by specific energy types, some by exotic damage, some not at all... some radiation types stack, some don't... it's stupidly complicated.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +1

      I agree that exotic damage in all its subtypes and weapon procs gets complicated in a hurry. I can do my best to cover it, but I will need at least a month or so to verify a few things on how some of the various exotic & radiation procs work in the game to give my best explanation in a video (aka -- my general thought processes of categories when it comes to exotic & radiation damage). It will probably not be 100% accurate (especially with future updates to the game), but should at least give you a ballpark on how the concepts operate inside the game.

    New at this but there are more than just beam weapons. Yes, I can see why you would when if there is allot of movement. But you have to grab it's attention first. Am using a plasma torp in the front and the back incase it does go around me. On the other one am using two sets of mines with one 250 disruptor and one 360 disruptor in the rear with one torp, three one 250 disruptor in the front. When I saw this one pop up. I thought it was going to cover more than beam weapons.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  4 роки тому

      Yes there are, but the cannon variants are just about the exact same as the beam variants -- the pictures for beams in the video are there just to show what the unique proc for that particular energy subtype actually is (the special weapons for tanks video covers these); the cannons in this game would have had the same picture, but a minus 12 to wpn power when fired. I also mentioned at the beginning that I wouldn't be referring to any unique weapons or set weapons that can't be equipped in more than one weapon slot -- which does preclude 360 beams (those are just a regular beam that loses one mod for the Arc mod in its place, and available in all of the energy variants in-game anyways). Also, as I was only talking about energy weapons (weapons that drain your weapon energy bar on your starship), by default any mines, torpedoes, & missiles would also not be included in this video. There were a few energy subtypes I accidentally skipped as of making this video over a year ago, and there have been many more added to the game since then.

      Those are other energy types, but those types that are only available as "set" rewards from reputation or missions. +CounterYoloGaming I agree on the Piano Polaron weapons as being best for tanks but what about the Tactical Consoles from the Colony are those any good or are they both worth the Fleet Creds?

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +1

      TL;DR -- Fleet Spire Tactical consoles are best for DPS & Threat, while the Fleet Colony tactical consoles are best for more survivability.
      For tank players, I would highly recommend putting ONE of the colony tactical consoles on your ship if you can still have about 20% critical chance for some more extra survivability. I only don't use them on my starship builds just because the fleets I am currently a part of are still fairly young and don't have access to the Tier V colony items. It just takes a TON of dilithium to get to colony tier V. The colony tactical consoles are designed more for tank players than anyone else honestly. The fleet spire consoles are typically more easily accessed as well by more fleets, but it is still up to you and your preferences.
      For me at least, the colony deflector & colony engines are the most noteworthy things available from the fleet colony in terms of increased threat generation & survivability (fleet engines give you +15% shield resistance at full impulse, which is significant). Once we know whether we will get another fleet holding with the end of the initial launch of the AOD continuations, I will cover all of the things available from fleet holdings.

Darkblade's build is a good place in general to start if you haven't done polaron before and want to tank on this ship; his consoles are good but I would replace the threat console with the Europa's console (I personally think with some extra things these 2 SIF consoles will eventually replace the desire for Command: Attract Fire in the future on tanks to be honest...) ua-cam.com/video/Dy5CZctZSBY/v-deo.html

    Antiproton Matter Conversion Beam Array You never mention this one and what are your thoughts on it.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +2

      TL;DR -- only support players will find this weapon optimal.
      It has less modifiers for its procs (so overall less DPS than other AP weapons) and its survival is substandard due to the highest 2 options I have in this video for AP weapons that are MUCH better (alongside the 2 reputation set beams options of those energy types which are even better than those). You won't pick the Matter Conversion Beam Array for survival nor for DPS, so it is only for the niche situation of trying to boost someone else's DPS (aka support players) that you will find this weapon ideal (which I could see, though most of them choose tetryon or polaron energy builds). It is an earnable weapon though that you can use at low levels, so there is that at least. It is better than Voth & Fluidic Antiproton in my list, but that is about it.

    as far as I know the Spiral proc [Spiral] on spiral wave disruptor weapons has an hidden innate dmgx2 built into it making it one of the best damage weapons in the game and IMO bitter than coalition. seems from your list you don't know or consider that?

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому

      For a DPS captain without team coordination, yes spirals are the way to go (the new D7 MW Disruptors might be better though). If you have team coordination, I still feel coalitions have a slight edge with a full pre-made team. However, if I made this list today I would put spirals as #1 as you can now unlock them for purchase from the dilithium store if you buy a T6 Cardassian starship from the C-Store. I do have a weight in this list on energy types that don't require the exchange.

    This vid is about 2 years old now, what's the current status of energy types in 2020?

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  4 роки тому +2

      Phasers & Disruptors are still the dps kings for energy damage (they have a LOT of best-in-slot unique weapons for their builds -- see the DPS League if you're curious what those exactly are), though Antiproton & Plasma are in excellent spots after their recent new subtypes (altamid & ba'ul) & strong 3-piece lobi sets. Polaron is the best on a budget -- as they have (1) piezo-polaron (best survival weapons in-game) (2) 2 universal tactical consoles from reputations (Lukari & Gamma), and (3) their strong 3-piece set is earned from a mission instead of the lobi store. Tetryon is still in the roughest spot at the moment.
      Generally, weapon proc's don't matter anymore besides Beam Overload builds (which it still mostly doesn't matter besides the Advanced Piezo-Polaron weapon's hidden proc for overload builds -- basically the Terran Task Force wpn for overload builds). If you aren't min-maxing, go with what looks the best for you. As for the best general for each weapon type:
      Phasers: Advanced Phaser Beam Arrays from a Discovery Constitution for beam builds, or Sensor-Linked Phasers if you aren't going beams (or don't want to buy the Promo DSC Connie or Legendary FED Bundle).
      Disruptors: Advanced Disruptor Beam Arrays (from DSC D7) are about on-par with Spiral Wave Disruptors honestly -- except spiral wave disruptors are available for all different types of weapons. As you can just get a T6 Cardassian starship from the C-Store, I'd recommend just getting and using those in general.
      Plasma: Corrosive & Altamid plasma are the best ones generally. You'll still want the lobi store's altamid 3-piece though eventually -- even on cannon builds.
      Antiproton: The new Ba'ul Antiproton weapons are king right now, and become even stronger with the lobi store's ba'ul 3-piece set (strong dps 3-piece, but its elements are also quite nice for tanking). Temporal Defense Chroniton are still great for tanking though. What they recently got completely brought them back. As FAW is outpacing Beam Overload for dps for the Ba'ul weapons, there are unsubstantiated rumors spreading that Cryptic might rework a little how proc's work again because of this new subtype, but we'll see. If you don't want survival but still want to tank, this is what I'd want to use in TFO's now.
      Polaron: Piezo-Polaron synergies so well with the fleet colony tactical consoles & the Hull Image Refractors console (its passive for lots of TempHP), this is what I still recommend for most tanks in STO (+ the morphogenic 3-piece & the Advanced Temporal Defense Polaron wpn at T6 Temporal rep). If you're going just for dps, I'd go for Dominion Polaron wpns in general/advanced content or for Vaadwaur Polaron wpns in elite content (as their proc significantly debuffs shields to kinetic dmg -- so much to the point that it WILL boost the dps of your torpedo-boat allies in elite runs). At the "high-end" they aren't as good from a dps perspective, but because they are so cheap to get going -- especially if you start a Jem'Hadar character -- I actually like where this energy type is right now.
      Tetryon: Refracting Tetryon is still their best for dps, which is sad as the new Ba'ul Antiproton weapons are basically this subtype but MUCH better. Diffusive Tetryon is the best available to tetryon if you want survival with tanking, but still pales in comparison to Piezo-Polaron in my opinion. The lobi store 3-piece diffusive tetryon set is only useful on dual beam bank tetryon builds -- significantly weaker than the other 3-piece sets for other energy types. They need more parity with the other energy types honestly.
