It's a great movie for sure, Simu Liu and Awkwafina were amazing as well. I only have a few issues with it. One is the whole CGI end fight in the village, the fight choreography throughout the rest of the movie is amazing and its a shame that was cast aside for a big magic CGI fight, it doesn't help that the creature designs were overly stylized trying to replicate creatures from Chinese mythology which ruined a lot of the immersion of the conclusion. The second is Awkwafina's character, I think she's great in this movie and I like how she wasn't just a bit part, she's not even the "useless beside emotional support, fish out of water, best friend character" we are introduced to the fact very early in the film through their jobs as Valets that she is an amazing driver and we see that multiple times throughout the rest of the movie. The problem I have is that in the last act we go to this magical village hidden from the world where the inhabitants have been training their whole lives in weapons craft, Awkwafina's character shows up and within a very short time span and becomes this super amazing archer that even saves the day with her 1 in a million arrow shot. I don't expect realism in Marvel movies and I always go in with a healthy suspension of disbelief but I just really don't enjoy how that was handled. We know from the start that her character is a little lost and doesn't know what to do in life, nor has any passion beyond just vibing, I think it would have been great if she realized what she wants to do while visiting the village and instead of having her be as good a shot as Hawkeye after a few days of training maybe have her land a shot on someone or something attacking her mentor or someone else who has been practicing their whole lives that then does the world saving shot. Sorry for the wall of text, I really liked this movie a lot and with a couple of changes I just thought it could go up a level.😀

Something that I feel goes unnoticed is when Shang Chi's father gets his soul taken, it takes much longer than it does for other people especially considering it's the giant monster and not one of the small ones. This is because his father is thousands of years old, meaning his soul is "bigger" in a sense and takes longer to take. Just a small detail, but details like this make the movies much more enjoyable to me.

It's only slow mo for a short portion, and it's taking his soul for ~6 seconds prior to the slow mo scene, so it likely took upwards of 10 seconds for his soul to be taken. Every other person's soul we see taken only takes a couple of seconds, if that, and it's all by the smaller creatures and not the big one. The only other time it takes this long (or longer in this case) is when it's taking the dragons soul. All of this makes me think it's canon.

@@deepcutreactions I agree and disagree. Yes, phase 4 feels disconnected compared to phase 1 in terms of the character relationships and how it’ll lead up to phase 6/Kang vs Phase 3/Thanos. But that’s because of two reasons.
The first being we have the hindsight of seeing how all of phases 1-3 connect. If you’re telling me by the end of phase 1 you knew anywhere near how phase 3 would end up playing out, I’m calling you a liar.
The second is that yes phase 1 movies felt more connected because they all led up to the first Avengers movie. But that’s not necessary because there isn’t a necessity to make them team up all again by the end of phase 4. Why? Because there’s so many more characters that only a Thanos level threat would require them all to meet up again. However, we have seen connections. Shang Chi has met Wong Captain Marvel and Hulk, Hulk has connected us with She Hulk, She Hulk has connected us with Daredevil, Wong and Strange have reconnected us with Wanda and connected with American Chavez, Ms Marvel has connected with Captain Marvel, etc etc. So while we don’t have that huge group yet, we have had connections made despite there being so many new characters.

Some behind the scenes trivia: Andy Le who portrays Death Dealer (the guy in the white mask) was also Simu Liu's personal trainer. The two of them started practicing the fight choreography months ahead of filming.
Also, when Simu's parents would call him, it wasn't to check up on him but rather they wanted to know if he got to work with Tony Leung that day.

This was really good, and they are already working on Shang Chi 2. Marvel also does this subtle thing with magic where it's color-coded - you'll notice that Dr. Strange and Shang Chi's magic were both Orange, and Orange is "good guy magic", where blue tends to be cosmic (like Captain Marvel, the tesseract, etc), and purple is "evil magic" (like Agatha in WandaVision). Shang Chi is also rumored to be a part of the Avengers in the upcoming Avengers 5 and 6 which will be cool to see him team up with others. Cheers.

Strange uses all the colors. CRIMSON -- reality -- Crimson Bands of Cyttorak. Time spells are green (the Time Stone). Orange spells evoke the soul and therefore, the Soul Stone.
Purple is power. Agatha craves that, right?
The great sorcerors use all the colors, Strange and Doom (he's coming). And Doom wears green -- he, not Kang, is the true Master of Time Travel. And God-Emperor Doom of Battleworld is white, transcending and combining all colors -- like the logo of AVENGERS SECRET WARS.

But i have a very close friend who had a childhood so horrific, i still cant comprehend it. And without saying too much, the source of everything sad and painful she felt died randomly, in the blink of an eye. Look i am not a violent person but when i say that this person needed to die, i fucking meant it. I have goddamn regrets saying that. But what you were saying during this reaction of not harming a parent (IMO) is mostly true given severe experiences. eg. my friend (as kind and completely non violent as they are) told me "i wish i could have caused him so much pain that even death would shiver". The first three PHASE IV projects give us the whole direction and thrust of THE MULTIVERSE SAGA (Phases IV, V, VI and possibly VII).
      1) WANDAVISION: introduces us to the Scarlet Witch, the most powerful being in the Multiverse. She is key to solving the Three Problems of the Multiverse Saga (1. The Dynasty of Kangs, 2. The Incursions, and 3. the even more powerful God-Emperor of Battleworld, Doctor Doom).
      2) FALCON & THE WINTER SOLDIER: establishes Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, the hero who will unite New Avengers, Old Avengers, and Young Avengers to face the Kangs, and more importantly, will lead survivors from Earth-616 to confront the greatest of all supervillains, Doctor Doom. Aided by the Fantastic Four, Wilson will lead surviving heroes from Earth-616 and other lost timelines into Battleworld.
      3) LOKI: introduces us to 31st-century Nathaniel Richards and his variants, the Kangs. His introduction as “He Who Remains” alludes to the coming of both the Fantastic Four (because all Kangs descend from Reed Richards) and the greatest threat and supervillain of all, Doctor Doom (for all Kangs use Doom’s Space-Time Platform).
SHANG-CHI and its PHASE VI sequel, "THE WRECKAGE OF TIME," are very important entries in the MULTIVERSE SAGA. The Ten Rings are actually quantum technology used by a Kang-variant (see ANTMAN & THE WASP QUANTUMANIA), one who conquered the 41st-century Kree and Shi-ar Star Empires. The Rings are powerful: they can be used to create designer timelines editing alternate pasts and futures. These time-definat Rings (a wink at who they really belong to, Kang the Conqueror), prevent AGING to anyone who wields them (like they did for Xu Wenwu as seen in SHANG-CHI), and can be integrated into a Multiversal-Engine "Lifeboat", granting escape to anyone fleeing their dying universe undergoing an Incursion event (see DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS). The Rings and the Quantum Bands (see MS MARVEL, THE MARVELS) will play an important role when universes begin dying in Phase VI on the road to AVENGERS SECRET WARS.
Remember these three points, what the Ten Rings really are, and be patient. Doom is coming.

This film has teh best fight scenes of the MCU films for sure, but they are just Wuxia fights. If you haven't seen Hero, Crouching Tiger, or pretty much any of the big Hong Kong martial arts film with Donnie Yen or Jet Lee, you will probably dig them. This film is inspired by those. There are a lot of videos on the making of teh fight scenes for this movie.
In the comics the rings were actual rings on the hands of a character called the Mandarin, a big bad for Iron Man.
They reimagined the origin way back in the first Ironman film as a terrorist/criminal org, the dudes that captured Tony were affiliated with "The 10 Rings".
Then later, in Ironman 3, they brought in Trevor (actor is Ben Kingsley who is like a legit legend). Trevor is hired to be a fake Mandarin by Killian(dude who was had all dollar store super soldier that exploded if they missed their meds). After IM3 there is a cool short you can watch on D+ called "All hail the King" which is is like an long after credit scene about Trevor. But after that we see don't see him until now; Shang's dad is the REAL Mandarin and he wasn't cool with some rando making use of his name so he imprisoned him and made him like a court jester.

This movie had to accomplish almost the impossible by being an origin story in phase 4 of marvel and it killed it in every single way. It was so so good. The fighting was so reminiscent (without being overboard and on the more unbelievable side) of the fighting in Asian cinema as a whole. The sort of flying/floating magical style of fighting mixed so well with the grounded martial arts and quick hand to hand combat. It truly was a breath of fresh air that no one knew the MCU needed.
A few quick things! The ten rings organization (or rather a radical branch of this organization) are who kidnapped Tony Stark and led to him building/becoming Iron Man. Also Trevor (the British actor man) was who Killian hired in Iron Man 3 to portray the Mandarin as a scare tactic and what not. The real Mandarin was Shang’s father and that’s why Trevor was in their prison/dungeon area. I know the film explains this sort of but I don’t remember how clear it was that that’s who this character is.
Fun fact! The guy who live-streamed the bus fight is the same guy from Spider-Man far from home (I think?) who was standing at a food truck and goes “do a flip!”
Also fun fact! The creature that Wong is fighting in the cage match is the Abomination from the Hulk. He just looks more comic accurate in this iteration.
Why are they called rings even though they are bracelets? So in the comics they are rings. I assume making them into bracelets worked better with the fighting style of the movie. But also they definitely could be rings for some massive alien race and in comparison have to be worn as bracelets on humans.
Complete random note. Disney sold an alligator Loki plushie that was absolutely adorable and I would very much like for them to make a morris plus he’s because I would love to have one. He is precious.
And finally!! I’m so glad your going to watch all the Spider-Man movies before watch no way home! While not necessary for following the plot of the movie, I think having watched them will greatly increase your viewing pleasure! Also the same goes for daredevil. I have not seen the original series from Netflix (it’s on the list I just have yet to commit the time to it) but I found I was able to grasp what I needed to without this previous knowledge. That’s kind of vague but when are these comments not vague when trying to prepare you for upcoming projects without giving anything away!

Fun Fact: Other than the bus scene, the references to Jackie Chan continues with the fight choreography being done by pupils from his stunt team, the elder archer being played by one of Jackie's old circus troupe members, and Death Dealer being played by Andy Le, a member of a UA-cam stunt team who were inspired by Jackie's work.

At the end when they are looking at the Rings and can't determine their origin... my theory(ies) is they are either Shiar - X-men related alien race - or the Rings are unknown because the technology to create them doesn't exist yet...
My 2nd theory is my personal favorite... the original creator and owner lost them all that time ago when traveling from the future. We met him in Loki.
