This is my favorite MCU movie, maybe one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time. It's just so funny, all the main characters have fantastic arcs, Valkyrie and Hela were SUCH fun characters, *and* the director sneaks in a story about how Asgardians were fuckin' COLONIALISTS, and not the benevolent golden gods from the heavens. A lot of people say Infinity War and/or Endgame are better, and they may be better movies, but Ragnarok is my favorite. It gets funnier every time I watch it. I loved your reaction, and was SO impressed you noticed that eye-crack foreshadowing, I can't believe I never noticed that before!
Dude, Cate (Hela) has been in a lot of movies you'd probably enjoy reacting to, including the LOTR series, Benjamin Button... Well, basically all those. Lot of other roles, too. Great actress.
when she was on the late night circuit she told how when she was first offered the role, she wasn't sure she wanted to do it, but when her kid heard about it, he flipped and was, MOM you HAVE TO DO THIS (he even threw in what he thought would be the kicker - that it would be great for her career lol)
Korg was played by the writer/director of Ragnarok, Taika Waititi, who's other brilliant work includes "What We Do In The Shadows" and "JoJo Rabbit". He also plays Blackbeard in the recent HBO Max series "Our Flag Means Blood".
Now I get to tell you the fun bit. The Grandmaster has a competitive side, and a brother. You've seen the brother in Guardians of the Galaxy; The Collector. Occasionally they kidnap people from various different worlds, and have them compete (as you've seen in this one), but between them, it's like a game of chess, and the winner keeps all the ''pieces" (the people they've kidnapped).
@@alexhefnerstvmovievault This movie actually teaches a pretty important lesson regarding history. Loki lied about his Sacrifice and pretended to be Odin and changed the story. HE CHANGED HISTORY THUS CHANGING THE PAST! Look at Hela revealing the History of Asgard. Odin changed History thus changed the past.
In norse mythology that wolf (Fenrir) is actually Loki's child with the "frost giant" (Jotun) Angerboda. Even more crazy is that Hel (Hella) is also Loki's daughter with her.
I just love the questions you ask and me knowing like 7 movies later that your question comes into reality Lmao. Keep these up!! Watching these reactions makes me so excited and happy every week! These movies are honestly historic!! Name another franchise w 20+ movies that are interweaving!!
Takia really did a great job with this new personality for Thor. He really made him stand out among everyone he is amazing in this one! Also Loki was so great too, funny and a little bit mischievous. I love it💚
Also, in Norse methology Loki is actually Odin's blood brother and Hela and Fenrir (the giant wolf) are two of Loki's kids. His third kid is the giant world's snake that ends up killing Thor.
@@Agispsi Half giant, half god? What? Not sure you know what you're talking about boss considering nowhere does it actually say who both of Loki's parents are, we simply know his father was a giant. Odin's mother is also a giant. _All_ of the Aesir/Vanir are descendant of giants. The world itself is literally a giant. The term god in Nordic myth is not like it would be in Judaic myth or Herculean myth so there's not really any "half gods" or demigods. Key word "not really" as there's not really any named ones like there are in Greek myth, however there's descendants of Odin (like the Volsungs) who are less powerful than him that basically work similarly to demigods in other pantheons. Semantics.
Honestly, this is the type of Marvel movie that should have been spun off into a tv-show. I would have loved watching the adventures of this quad (plus Heimdall) as they travel across space.
I love rewatching this movies with you. Love your energy. Point break it's from the first Avengers movie, Tony told him that after getting to the helicarrier
I've always liked that Valkyrie's girlfriend who is killed in the flashback to the battle with Hela appears just like the comic's version of Valkyrie. Linking them together.
"How does Strange know?" He's a wizard. "What does point break mean?" In the first Avengers movie, that was Tony's nickname for Thor. "They ride on pegasuses?" The plural is pegasi, actually. But yes, I like how it's a recurring theme in the MCU that heroes don't need their tools or weapons to be heroes. Captain America is a hero without his shield, Iron Man without his suit or Thor without his hammer. And if you want to know who the director, Taika Waititi is, take a look at Korg. Yep, that's him.
and john grimm in Doom, and some vampire king in Priest, Bones on the new Star Trek movies, Dredd, dude was even on Xena Warrior Princess. KARL MOFUCKIN' URBAN rules... forever
Cate Blanchett is an amazing actress! She played the character "Galadriel" in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Check out her resume. It's pretty impressive. I just noticed Bruce Banner wearing a Duran Duran shirt!
Rewatching this movie made me really realise how much Loki contributed to the Thor movies..and how all the Thor movies have been buddy cop movies with amazing chemistry between Thor and Loki and they need to bring back Loki to the franchise or someone as equally charming as him because without the banter and tension between them, Thor feels kinda empty
Loki is my overall favorite MCU character and the reason why Dark World is my favorite Thor movie. It really feels more like Loki’s movie. Plus, the conflict/cooperation between Thor & Loki is at it’s best in that movie, at least to me anyway. Can’t wait for the sun to shine down again!
23:25 Point Break is a heist movie Chris Hemsworth (Thor’s Actor) is in. It’s supposed to be like Tony making fun of Thor for looking like Chris Hemsworth in Point Break.
Alex with that turtleneck tho. Fucken shnazzy my guy I once listened to Immigrant Song and thought to myself “this NEEDS to be in a Thor movie someday” and lo and behold a year or so later this movie made it happen and I couldn’t be happier. It’s so good! I like how Alex completely missed that Matt Damon was Loki in the play 🤣 (and Sam Neil, Alan from the Jurassic Park movies, was Odín) The “drunk chick” is Tessa Thompson, after this movie, her and Chris did MIB International together Fun fact: Korg is voiced by the director himself, Taika Waititi. And the faces on the 3 headed guy are all his face “Point Break what does that mean?” In The Avengers after they fought Tony said to Thor “no hard feelings Point Break, you’ve got a mean swing.” He called him that cuz his hair looked like the characters in Point Break Fun fact #2: Chris improved that snake story. In the BTS he riffs about Thor liking different things and they ultimately chose the snake one. But also, fun fact 2.5: the director has stated that like 70-80% of this movie was improvised so given how well it turned out and beloved it it, that’s an impressive feat Homestretch baby! Infinity War is almost here!!
Yeah, Taika definitely injected so much more humor into the characters and it really worked out for the better. Did you know that he’s also Korg? I was so waiting for your reaction to seeing Hulk again, Chris and Marks bromantic chemistry is what carried this whole movie. Thor has always been a cool character but this movie, it’s like he’s a completely different character. He’s still got that intensity but he was loosened up a lot in this movie as compared to Thor 1 and Dark World. I really like how Thor evolves from this movie on. My favorite Marvel character/ Hero will always be Spider-Man, but back when Spider-Man was not part of the film MCU it was Captain America. It’s impossible to have a single favorite though so I have a long list ranked, but for the sake of comment length and the desire not to torture you with such I’ll keep it to my top three: 1) Spider-Man ( will probably never change no matter what, when you get to No Way Home, trust me you’ll understand why- but that’s not the only reason why, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid) 2. MoonKnight ( this is a character that you haven’t met yet, I don’t know if you’ve seen the trailers or heard about him in passing online. Disney + has released a lot of shows that are set after the end of the Avengers Saga. I won’t spoil anything about this character, of course, but I will say that it’s pretty much the ONLY Marvel show that you don’t have to be caught up on anything to watch and enjoy and understand what’s going on. He would be first but, again, Spider-Man is immovable in my rankings. I will be extremely excited if you decide to get into the shows after your caught up on movies and I can definitely say that you’d enjoy this one) 3. Hulk/ Bruce Banner- he will always be a deeply fascinating character to me and I’ve said this before but I, unlike many, really love where they take his character later. It’s not a direction most fans tend to like, but I do and I’m excited to know your thoughts on it in the future.
It exceeded my expectations when I watched it first time either, and another thing that always exceed my expectations as well is your reactions. I can tell that your goal to make Mondays cooler, nicer and lighter are working pretty well! My fave MCU superhero is Spiderman btw
Korg is my favorite MCU hero! Louise from Antman comes in a very close 2nd place. As much as I love Hulk (I have my own anger issues I been dealing with for many years), it is the secondary characters that do it for me in these movies LOL great reaction, bro! Infinity War, NEXT! Let's GOOOOOO!
If you like the director, Taika Waititi, and his humour, please check out the film What We Do In The Shadows! It's awesome and he plays a main character and is a director. Lots of laughs!
One of my absolute favorites!! I knew you'd like it! Sadly, I realized we are close to the end, thank you for doing these reactions, we've all got to relive our first reactions to these movies and it's been great.
Physically speaking, Hulk is the strongest. There's really no limit to his anger so there's no limit to his strength. Most powerful? That would be Wanda. By far. The Scarlet Witch is by far the most powerful being in the multiverse. Outside of a few of the really weird entities, maybe.
In the first 30 years or so, Marvel Lore had a power hierarchy in place that remained solid. Since then everything went to 💩 based on writer's whim & Disney's agenda. That was once true about Hulk physically being the strongest with no upper limit. Disney has already been retconning Hulk into a weaker position. Unless Disney has made another retcon - Technically speaking, Wanda is a conduit of Chthon (Elder God / Demon). The massive power Wanda wields is his.
She's the powercrept b!+ch of MCU, i fucking hate that they made her strong just for the sake of it. It makes zero sense. Also I'm still a little pissed at how they threw all her character away in Dr strange 2.
@@dunringill1747 True. In the comics, Doctor Strange and Wanda are comparable in power. It seems to be determined by gender in the MCU now. Kevin Feige stated this as an objective too, after Kathleen Kennedy took over. If you're a woman, and were comparable in power to a male character, you're now "FAR more powerful" in the MCU. They've greatly worked to degrade both the Hulk, and Thor, taking two of the most powerful characters in the universe and making them a joke to prop up other characters. But, just think--if you need to subvert characters to build up other characters, that's basically just a confession that they're not making them very interesting. They were already great, just bring to life their comic form, don't retcon it to fit your ideological objectives. The objective just seems to be, "women are better, men suck" now, which is making a crap ton of ridiculous, boring, illogical content. Take the recent Thor: Love and Thunder, for example. Another peak example: Hawkeye. Who needs Hawkeye, when you got Kate Bishop? How about Black Widow, replacing the male villain/anti-hero Taskmaster with a woman? There are so many examples of retconning for the sake of identity politics in the MCU, that it's pretty much poisoned the well. Phase 3 was dope! Phase 4, in comparison, doesn't even seem like it's in the same universe. It's all this feminist agenda seeping into Marvel now, after Kathleen Kennedy seized control. Now, guys like Feige, if they really stood for content like Phase 3 in the first place, just want to keep their jobs and tow the line. Comics were always a male-dominated market; men primarily bought them. Why they want to burn off the core fan base that helped BUILD the MCU, I will never understand. But, ideologues never were too good with logic... There's no lack of representation in comic books, they only subvert the men because they hate them, not because they need to. If you want a strong female character, PICK one to represent on screen, don't REPLACE the men with them, or CHANGE our characters. A lot of these characters have decades of history and fans. It's such a backwards way of thinking. Even She-Hulk was cool in the comics, but now she's the stereotypical third-wave feminist dealing with first-world inconveniences.
@@nathansky I think yours is the embarrassing take, personally. I don't feel any whatsoever. Women have been represented in Marvel comics since its inception. It just shows that you know nothing about the source material. All feminists are doing (Kennedy is an avowed feminist) is co-opting something they hate, to turn it into something that they love, instead of just making their own things. If the female characters in the Marvel universe don't do it for you (of which there are HUNDREDS to choose from), then make another universe, don't change our established universe. This would be fought for in literally any other area of lore, but when it's Marvel, all of a sudden it's the "toxic males" from the "toxic fandom" that are the problem. Get outta here... What if I changed Edward from Twilight (or pick a franchise) into a black girl for the sake of representation? Don't they need representation too? "Yes! But at the cost of my favorite character, Edward?" According to your inconsistency and absence of logic, yes. "Do as I say, and not as I do!", eh? Let's take YOUR favorite lore, swap and retcon the characters, and see how you feel about it. If you said you'd react anyway but miffed, you'd be telling a bold-faced lie. Even people who were never familiar with the comics see a HUGE rift between Phase 3 and 4. You need to get out more. Maybe add some diversity of thought to your friend roster.
I absolutely love this movie, but Skurge's death scene was a basic nod towards one of the most epic scenes in comics ever. "He stood alone at Gjallerbru, and that is enough."
20:44 "Who is this guy? He looks familiar, should I know him?" This hurt me. To see who is easily one of my favorite characters in all the MCU so easily forgotten... ouch. Not to mention it's freakin Idris Elba.
Been a subscriber for a minute now. Had no idea that you are in Texas. I'm born and raised Texan. Born near Lubbock, grew up in Austin and now live deep in the Piney Woods and swamps of East Texas. I really enjoy your reactions.
This movie single-handedly turned Thor into one of the best MCU characters. A lot of it has to do with Taika's direction and the writing in _Ragnarok,_ because it turned what had been an above-average character from _Thor_ and _Thor: The Dark World,_ and transformed Thor into a genuinely likeable and funny character.
The part where Skurge held the line with a pair of M-16s is one of the most iconic scenes from the comics. "He held the line at Gallebru, and that is sufficient. "
This is where things start ramping up IMO. Iron man is my fave marvel character, This is the best Thor movie, but black panther is without a doubt the best non avengers marvel movie. Absolutely brilliant. RIP Chadwick #WakandaForever
In the actual stories about Thor, Odin, Loki etc., Loki and the giant Angerboda are the parents of Hel (Hela is anglified version or something), Fenrisulven (the wolf) and the world serpent, Jormungander which encirculate the entire world!
Very clever writing. Just the fact they considered the the consequences of Bruce being Hulk for two years or more without a break. Usually, he only exists for brief stints, so never really had the chance to experience the world and let his “raw nerve” personality calm down a bit. To develop. To learn language. That’s why he acts and sounds kind of like a toddler. Very cool concept. And when Bruce finally shows up, he’s more agitated and confused that we’ve ever seen him, which makes perfect sense given his bizarre circumstances.
I think everyone was looking forward toward your reaction to Hulks entrance. (Edit:) Also, at 38:25 you should have edited Reds response from the Shawshank Redemption. Would have been perfectly fitting. 👌🏻

Crazy never thought about them being brothers damn.
What?!?!?! That’s crazy! 🤯
Grandmaster also appeared in the credits of GOTG Vol 2
@@wiiplaya25 that was not the Grandmaster. It was Adam Warlock. We will be seeing him in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3
I am so stoked the like the content so much! No series like the MCU! It’s unreal!! Love this comment!
The Air bud franchise 👌
Takia really did a great job with this new personality for Thor. He really made him stand out among everyone he is amazing in this one! Also Loki was so great too, funny and a little bit mischievous. I love it💚
Also, in Norse methology Loki is actually Odin's blood brother and Hela and Fenrir (the giant wolf) are two of Loki's kids. His third kid is the giant world's snake that ends up killing Thor.
That's just us humans mixing things up hearing about these guys third party.
indeed the "your-moon-gandar" (Jormungandr)
In the mythology Loki is not related to Odin. He is a half giant, half God with no direct relation to either Odin or Thor.
@@Agispsi yes, "blood brother" as in they took an oath to always look out for each other. Loki betrays them many times despite this blood oath.
He was referring to Patrick Swayze's character in the movie Point Break specifically, I believe.
Point break is an older action movie
@@DavidLender yep
I've always liked that Valkyrie's girlfriend who is killed in the flashback to the battle with Hela appears just like the comic's version of Valkyrie. Linking them together.
Who am I Dylan’s in trouble killed me😂😂💀
I didn't expect it, but the Dylan is in trouble reference is the top of my reaction comparisons I can think of right here 😂 😂 😂
"How does Strange know?" He's a wizard.
“If you’re nothing without the suit, you don’t deserve to have it”
and the 3 headed guy.
well strange knew where odin was because its implied odin went to him for help, hence the "your father asked to not be disturbed"
Dr Strange had he time infinity stone so he would have foreseen Odin but maybe not his sons if he asked if they'd all leave with Odin ect.
Doctor Strange is not a wizard.
Not me realizing the bald dude who was following hel around is BILLY FCKING BUTCHER. WHATTTT?!?????
THE RANGE IS CRAZYYY😭😭😭😭
He will always be Eomer from LOTR first and foremost...
@@ericcrilley8871 i forgot he even played Eomer in lotr💀 The blonde hair rlly did make a difference ig. Karl Urban’s range is truly amazing.
and john grimm in Doom, and some vampire king in Priest, Bones on the new Star Trek movies, Dredd, dude was even on Xena Warrior Princess. KARL MOFUCKIN' URBAN rules... forever
I think it's pretty funny that Loki is afraid of Hulk and Bamner is afraid of Loki
I’d say Korg maybe filled that role in the fourth movie since he was with Thor through almost every journey in Love and Thunder.
@@Andrew.Grabowski I didn't miss Loki in Love and Thunder, still think it was a fairly good movie.
Korg became insufferable in Love&Thunder.
They dropped Loki from the MCU after this?
Fun fact about the thrid movies.
Iron Man 3- He loses the reactor
Captain America 3- He loses his shield
Thor 3- He loses the hammer
My favorite Avenger is Hawkeye, but I usually get a lot of crap for that! I’m really glad you enjoyed this movie as much as we hoped you would!
He does have a good through-line, he just appears so much less than the others he gets forgotten or ignored sometimes.
Is he an avenger though? I thought he didn’t have actual “powers” besides being a straight up badass!
@@alexhefnerstvmovievault I think you could call him a mostly-retired Avenger. But yeah, no powers. Then again, Black Widow has no powers either.
@@alexhefnerstvmovievault Being a straight up badass is all I need!
Lemme tell ya it all goes to shit when Hawkeye ain't there!!!
23:25 Point Break is a heist movie Chris Hemsworth (Thor’s Actor) is in. It’s supposed to be like Tony making fun of Thor for looking like Chris Hemsworth in Point Break.
In the Marvel version Hela is Thors sister. In Asgard mythology Hela is Loki's daughter.
Alex with that turtleneck tho. Fucken shnazzy my guy
I once listened to Immigrant Song and thought to myself “this NEEDS to be in a Thor movie someday” and lo and behold a year or so later this movie made it happen and I couldn’t be happier. It’s so good!
I like how Alex completely missed that Matt Damon was Loki in the play 🤣 (and Sam Neil, Alan from the Jurassic Park movies, was Odín)
The “drunk chick” is Tessa Thompson, after this movie, her and Chris did MIB International together
Fun fact: Korg is voiced by the director himself, Taika Waititi. And the faces on the 3 headed guy are all his face
“Point Break what does that mean?” In The Avengers after they fought Tony said to Thor “no hard feelings Point Break, you’ve got a mean swing.” He called him that cuz his hair looked like the characters in Point Break
Fun fact #2: Chris improved that snake story. In the BTS he riffs about Thor liking different things and they ultimately chose the snake one. But also, fun fact 2.5: the director has stated that like 70-80% of this movie was improvised so given how well it turned out and beloved it it, that’s an impressive feat
Homestretch baby! Infinity War is almost here!!
I love how cute the hulk was he's like a HUGE green teddy bear-yea right! Mondays have been great lately, thank you Alex.
I just gotta say you and Mr video are killing it with these reaction videos
Yes! My two favorite reactors!
It’s impossible to have a single favorite though so I have a long list ranked, but for the sake of comment length and the desire not to torture you with such I’ll keep it to my top three:
1) Spider-Man ( will probably never change no matter what, when you get to No Way Home, trust me you’ll understand why- but that’s not the only reason why, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid)
2. I will be extremely excited if you decide to get into the shows after your caught up on movies and I can definitely say that you’d enjoy this one)
3. Hulk/ Bruce Banner- he will always be a deeply fascinating character to me and I’ve said this before but I, unlike many, really love where they take his character later. It’s not a direction most fans tend to like, but I do and I’m excited to know your thoughts on it in the future.
Can I just say that I absolutely love your channel and your reactions? Your humor is hilarious and that intro has the best music I've ever heard 🙏
You are so awesome! Much love and thank you so much for tuning into these reactions 🖤🖤🙏🏼
@@alexhefnerstvmovievault Absolutely! I am so excited for these next couple MCU movies!

My fave MCU superhero is Spiderman btw
"MY GOOCH MAKES ME HAPPY"
on a serious note, I love this reaction and Korg is my fave character in this movie. Lol
The voice orf Korg is Taika Waititi who is also the director of this movie.
I am sooo fuckin wrong. Black Panther is next..how dare I forget that! *flipping myself off *
In the Norse mythology that big dog is actually Loki's child... And Loki is the mother of Odin's horse too
If you like the director, Taika Waititi, and his humour, please check out the film What We Do In The Shadows! It's awesome and he plays a main character and is a director. Lots of laughs!
Better yet, watch the series
@@willpina Yes to both! XD
@@mattvsmetaverse This is a pretty embarrassing take. Nobody is trying to take your toys away, guy. Creators are just letting women play too.
Maybe add some diversity of thought to your friend roster.
the big dog is called Fenrir, look him up ;)
Doctor Strange, Daredevil and The Punisher are my favourites by far. But Captain America is up there as well
My gooch makes me happy!
Also, seeing you get closer and closer to the best that the MCU has to offer makes me happy!
“Who an I ? Dylan’s in trouble” 😂😂😂😂 I literally screamed at work 😂
When Cate Blanchett starts telling the story of conquering worlds with Odin, I immediately hear her voice telling about a little ring to rule them all
I absolutely love this movie, but Skurge's death scene was a basic nod towards one of the most epic scenes in comics ever. "He stood alone at Gjallerbru, and that is enough."
In the first Avengers movie, Tony Stark called Thor 'Point Break' because of his long blonde hair which Patrick Swayze had in the movie Point Break.
20:44 "Who is this guy? He looks familiar, should I know him?"
This hurt me. To see who is easily one of my favorite characters in all the MCU so easily forgotten... ouch. Not to mention it's freakin Idris Elba.
I slapped myself for it 🤣
It's the dreads. Bet if he had some of his golden armor he'd have noticed quicker.
He looked quite different in this movie. I don’t think I knew it was him at first either.
Been a subscriber for a minute now. Had no idea that you are in Texas. I'm born and raised Texan. Born near Lubbock, grew up in Austin and now live deep in the Piney Woods and swamps of East Texas.
I really enjoy your reactions.
This movie made me watch Jojo Rabbit since it was also directed by Taika Waititi. Amazing movies both. Plus Taika was the voice for Korg.
The voice of Surtur is Clancy Brown. He's done a lot of voice acting but he is most notably known for voicing Mr Krabs from Sponge Bob Squarepants.
Korg is genuinely one of my fav MCU characters, I could watch a whole movie about him and love it
When you said “Who am I? Dylan’s in trouble?” Dude that freaking got me 😂
In the actual stories about Thor, Odin, Loki etc., Loki and the giant Angerboda are the parents of Hel (Hela is anglified version or something), Fenrisulven (the wolf) and the world serpent, Jormungander which encirculate the entire world!
