Fun fact: apparently a number of prestige car manufacturers were approached about providing cars for the movie, but all of them said no because they didn't want their cars being shown in connection with crashing. Only Lamborghini said yes because they looked at it from the angle of "yeah he crashed, but he survived!" and they felt like the scene would highlight the safety of their cars.

Apparently it's not that weird for doctors to casually talk to each other during operation. And when you think about it it makes sense, if there is no rush or emergency and everything is going fine, why would you just be quiet for an hour up to four hours or more when you can talk just fine without it being a problem?
Also i liked the fact that Stephen actually freaked out after he killed someone. Because for some reason i feel like sometimes death (or a character killing somebody, more specifically) is overlooked in movies or shows. I just can't recall movies or shows where people freak out about killing someone. Or they just don't give it too much time.

The weird "inception-like" thing is the Mirror Dimension. It basically drags you and whoever else you want into a trippy inception-like dimension where nothing that happens to the environment (like collateral damage) actually happens to the real world. Basically makes a safe zone to fight in.
Also, the symbolism of the watch is that it represents his past life as a doctor. So by choosing *not* to fix it, it symbolizes his choice to leave his old life behind and become the Sorcerer Supreme.
And yes, you were right about "the least-common denominator being the Infinity Stones." We've already seen the Space and Mind Stones in Phase 1 (the Tesseract contained the Space Stone and Loki's scepter contained the Mind Stone), the Reality and Power Stones in Phase 2 (the Aether was the Reality Stone in a different state and the Orb contained the Power Stone). The Artifact is known as the Cloak Of Levitation, which allows him to 'fly', so to speak. They made it a bit more sentient than the comics version. 4:35 It's to keep automatic watches fully wound. Automatic watches are mechanical with a spring that needs to be kept wound to run, but there is also a rotor which will take your wrist's movement throughout the day and use that energy to wind the mainspring a tiny bit at at time. The watch winding box simulates these movements, spinning the rotor and keeping the watch fully wound. If you only have one watch that you wear every day, it's not needed, since when fully wound they typically last 30-40 hours, so plenty of power to run overnight and then get wound again the next day as you wear it.

"Are you not supposed to do it when their hearts beating?!" Actually, the only time you should do it is when their heart is beating... just not when it is beating correctly. The heart gets a disrythmia (beating incorrectly) and certain beats are shockable. By shockable it means you stop the heart... yep, you are killing them. Then the pacemaker of the heart kicks back in and hopefully is now beating in a good rhythm. It's like rebooting the heart when it isn't working right. In most shows/movies you hear a flatline and then they shock... can't shock a flatline, you start chest compressions and hope the heart starts back up if you manually keep it pumping long enough (while breaking bones and cause injuries to the body).

@Latest Obsession What about the storyline lacks direction? How is it “all over the place?” It’s a focused narrative, there aren’t unnecessary subplots like in many of these movies, it progresses linearly & the characters are consistent or go through viable arcs. Sounds like very focused direction to me. Your complaint about a post credit scene not yet paying off in the future is irrelevant. No one ever said any of these movies don’t have flaws, but that criticism just doesn’t make sense. A film that actually lacks direction is one that has conflicting tones, characters acting out of character, a non linear progression, unfocused narrative, & this movie succeeds at all those far more than many other MCU movies

    • @py16667
      @py16667 Рік тому +3

@Latest Obsession You’ve done a horrible job “explaining” anything. What about the pacing is an issue? Did you want it faster paced or slower paced? What did you want to see more/less of? It has an effectively brisk pace despite introducing all new characters, a new storyline, new settings, new powers, world building. Eternals had a slower pace & it only hurt the narrative, Thor love & thunder as well as MOM were fast paced & that lead to underdeveloped narratives. What happens as a result of an after credit scene in the future is completely irrelevant to the film that it’s in, that’s an MCU problem, not a Dr Strange 1 problem. Direction IS the film, direction means every aspect of the film dude lol. The director is overseeing every aspect of production, a lack of direction implies there isn’t a focused narrative, it’s not cohesive & there are conflicting tones or story elements. Vaguely saying it lacks direction isn’t logical criticism unless you go into explicit detail explaining which elements are lacking or unfocused as well as how & why

The Batman Begins (2005) movie was heavily using the original script for this movie like a decade later. A similar thing happened with the Ant-Man movie, so both of these movies did not get unanimous critical praise because they "felt same-y / cliche / repetitive" whatever word people used because they were literally both using a script that had been cannibalized for other films.

    Portal rules
If you’re falling, you can’t open a portal straight ahead because you’re at terminal velocity. You’ll just go kasplat on the other side. “Form an up-facing portal then, shoot yourself into the air!” You know how much concentration and accuracy that takes? Plus, reversing velocity from down to up is gonna do some damage to your internal organs just as if you hit the ground.
At best, difficult as it would be, you’d have to form three portals in a row. First one ahead of you that lets out left to right, horizontally. You’d shoot out with horizontal velocity. From there, ahead of you, let another portal form up and down that will send you skywards, to reduce your velocity upon exiting it, and reducing the angle of radical change. From there, as your velocity finally cancels out, one more portal beneath you to safely return you to the ground.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
You gotta learn to think with portals ✨

Hey bud. Great analogy to Christopher Nolan - this definitely has an "mcu inception" vibe.
It's an easy detail to miss, but Strange has an obsession with watches that subtly foreshadows the eye of agamotto and the time stone.
You're also spot on about the diversity of teams - the MCU slowly expands out to encompass all of these different groups and niches: planetary heroes, regional heroes, mystical heroes, space heroes, and so on.
And yes the first three phases of the MCU are officially called "The Infinity Saga" - so you're spot on noticing the infinity stones being mentioned again.
    Cheers.

I've a question and perhaps a suggestion, Alex. Have you ever taken the time to read poetry? I mean Classical poetry, such has Homer and the greats such as Yeats and Emerson. If the answer is no, I'd highly suggest that you take the time to do so, and I'll tell you why. In a few of the films I've watched with you, you have missed or not been able to find the meaning behind symbolism. Spending some time with the classics might very well help you, both as a presenter and frankly as a human being. There is solid gold in those works and you don't have to mine very far to find it. I'd start with Emerson, but that's just personal preference.
As always, good work. I hope you, your charming wife and my fellow viewers have a lovely evening. Or time zone.

The spinning watch thing is cause a lot of those watches don't operate on a battery, it's got a built in winder that winds when it's moving. Like my old Seiko dive watch is that way and I didn't have a drawer like that, so when I wouldn't wear it for a few days I'd have to just hold it and shake it a bunch to get it to wind up. Seal (one name artist question), and yes I've been to Hong Kong a few times, but it was back when it was still under British rule. in the early 90's it was amazing
