Johnathan is actually very softspoken in his speaking voice. Cool contrast to his singing voice, he is very emotive in his vocals and his lyrics. More KoRn please! They're my favorite band!
Yes I have met him several times at meet and greets. The first time I heard his voice when I spoke with him, it’s so soft . He is so humble , kind and sweet
Jonathan Davis has a pretty big range. he must be taking care of his voice because he's been doing this for 30 years. love your reactions and analyses.
What happened to the child? There are two versions of the video of this song, and this is the 'censored' version which is the continuation of the 'uncensored' one that appeared on MTV's. The song, the music and the voice are the same, only that one video is the continuation of the other
While this was Korn's 5th studio album, it was the first album after Jonathan started regular vocal training. He began while writing and recording the Queen Of The Damned soundtrack
I saw on a forum that his complete vocal range is an A1 - F5 (3 octaves and 8 semi notes, almost close to 4 octaves by 4 semi notes) which seems like a typical vocal range for alt metal singer of his class, but what makes him stand out by most is what he can do with his voice. Due to his asthma, he tends to sound very breathy and seems to have not much complete control in his voice but Jonathan is a master of changing his texture. One part he's sounding raspy, another time clean, some times aggressive and sometimes melancholic. His many voices include the following: The atmospheric melancholic sounding falsettos The breathless yet hostile screams/shrieks The clean high head voice The demented scat/beatbox The fryish creepy/sexy toasting (the act of talking or chanting, usually in a monotone melody, over a rhythm or beat usually famous with DJs) The monstrous death growls The raspy yet melodious flow in his singing The thrash grunts usually when he's trying to make a point
I listen to an extremely wide variety of music, but Korn has always been my favorite. Their ability to express complex, and uncomfortable feels is top notch. Johnathan's way to put those feelings into words is also very impressive, and I tend to connect quite deeply with this band.
JD is very much an emotional singer. Def have a look at some interviews for his talking voice. Big Korn fan here haha, so if you have a chance definitely check out more by them. I’d go with “Good God” or “Got the life” by them. Also try to check out some Live videos of them too. They are just as amazing live! Very interesting & good analysis btw! Usually I don’t like pausing in reactions but you give great information 😊
People forget how big Korn was in the late 90s and early 2000s. Topping the charts right along the side of the biggest Pop/boybands of the time and often knocking them out of the number one spot. Saw them pre pandemic and the band and JD sounded great.
The child continued on the journey through the album and music videos for The Untouchables album. Here to Stay is the first song off the album and the start of the journey. I've seen Korn live several times and they sound just like the albums live! Jonathan pours his heart out for every performance.
I love how you use and describe language terminology like dipthongs and plosives. I love sounds, in general, and I love learning about how we make them. I've watched videos about languages and accents and how those sounds are made, as well as for vocalists and singing and you are the first vocalist/reactor that I have watched that combines them. I love it!
Best reaction to JD voice i seen so far ❤👏 you really picked up all the nuances in his voice. I Hope to see more of this genre in the future, there are lots of interesting and weird stuff
His wife was mentally ill and died from an accidental prescription drug overdose. He wrote a whole thing about it. It was beautiful and sobering at the same time. He also had his own problems with anxiety attacks, and the drugs he was prescribed for it made him even sicker. He used to also get beat up a lot in school for wearing dresses and makeup (his favorite band was Duran Duran) and that made his anxiety worse. Early on in the band's history people in the clubs would sometimes try to punch him. They write a song about it. "Clown".
Love your stuff! I am not necessarily a Korn fan but have to admit they are talented! Thank you for sharing your expertise and fun personality! Happy New Year! Erica Scottsdale Az❤️
Jonathan is an extremely talented person not only is he a unique and talented singer but he can also play multiple instruments most notably the bagpipes, he had a very musical yet troubled upbringing as both his parents were involved in the entertainment industry his father a musician played keeyboard for Frank Zappa and his mother was an actor and dancer
When he talks it’s so soft you would never think he could sing or scatt like that. I met them several times and he’s so humble, sweet and kind. He has an amazing voice ! His vocal abilities are amazing
If you want a more proper introduction to Korn, I advise you to check out Blind (a classic from their first album), Freak on the leash, though it's kind of cliché the bridge is an absolute banger and unlike anything you've ever heard, or personal favorites : It's on, Twist (short but crazy and revolutionary track), or even Rotting in vain from one of their latest albums :)
Anytime I hear "Here to Stay" from now on I am going to remember vocal folds grrrrr🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though, thank you for your break down of Johnathans range and just how talented he is, I really enjoyed your video. More Korn please.😊
Your videos make me smile even when they're on this kind of "dark, heavy, scary" music. I love that you're giving us interesting surprises with the music you select for the chanel.
Jon has a pretty unique singing voice. You would think he couldn't talk anymore after doing this for so long. There are many options to choose from with Korn, but if you are looking for vocal analysis, maybe Did My Time, Got The Life, or Freak On A Leash. If you want to get weird, Chutes & Ladders has a lot to offer. Great reaction!
I would say he has a pretty soft, gentle, almost thin and high voice when talking. Not really what you would expect from a metal singer. He puts a lot of distortion and bending into his voice, when singing.
To answer your question about the child at the beginning: he doesn’t come back, that’s the point, consumerism and advertising took him for good. Please do Korn - falling away from me 🙏
I’ve always noticed how’s he got that happy tone 😂😂 good ol jd

Jonathan the BEST
Pretty much every song from their MTV Unplugged performance Jonathan Davis gives an introduction to the song. So, easy comparison between speaking and singing.
Your just opening the metal door...
Do Ronnie James Dio singing Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath...
Do Tool... The Grunge....
Do anything from Led Zeppelin..
Do Slipknot.... Duality....
Do Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow singing Nemesis...
That should get you hooked...
Nice video!
Please more Korn!!
