Never gets old! The worst part is them pausing in surprise because Serj is so unpredictable, and I just want to jam! Still loveit though, their faces are always priceless.
@@Munshkin27 It seems I have to explain, what I meant is that many UA-camrs say it's their first reaction to a certain band, when in reality they already know it, and they do it to get more likes and subscriptions...yeah my mistake, I should have explained myself better..
Listening to Serj absolutely shred the first two syllables of DISORder then within the same word transfer to a smooth vibratto last syllable for disorDER is just incredible
I kind of wish you would have reacted to Chop Suey as your first SOAD song. It's Kind of like watching S.O.S. the first time you watch Dimash. Sets the tone for everything else to come.
3:28 ANY of their highest viewed SOAD vidoes on UA-cam are perfect if you love the unexpected nature of their music! Aerials, Chop Suey, Question!, B.Y.O.B., Sugar, Hypnotize, Spiders and so many more!
You're in for quite a journey if you decide to keep listening to SOAD. They are among the most unique bands to exist. What makes them so exciting is that you can never tell where the song and music are going. This band is a treat for first listeners. Oh snd Serj's voice is just so unique.
These guys have always brandished their own unique and perhaps quirky style of metal. Without making ethnicity too much of a point, I imagine some of that stems from their collective Armenian heritage. But on the other hand it can just as likely come from their own personal artistic quirks as musicians.
as an armenian I can confirm their music is definitely influenced by traditional armenian music, both the vocals and some of the instrumentation 💖 its so cool seeing some of our culture represented by them 🇦🇲
Ok, you’re amazing. FiR brought me here, and I am so glad they did! Your personality feels natural, not contrived. Great for reactions! And obviously, your technical chops and knowledge are high level. Thanks for doing these! And definitely, definitely more SOAD / FiR etc
"I don't speak English, I'm sorry, but this is the best reaction I've seen to this song, you're so natural and technical at the same time, I have no words" Te tengo, hermano.
SoD is known for having very deep lyrics. They are usually political in nature. They aren’t a sex drugs and rock and roll band. There is a ton of substance to their work. It doesn’t hurt that they kick some serious ass either!!
There are definitely elements of Dadaism in their lyrics. I believe Serj has said it's an influence. So not all of their lyrics are as deep as they seem. Some are, but don't read into some of the abstract ones too much.
This song is about living in a city that is toxic and poisons the body and soul of people. A city that is involved in disorder and everyone is silent. The best activity is eating seeds, which is a worthless waste of time. In the end, he wishes that he was a sun that shines on people's hearts and fills them with love. The sun is a symbol of love and life.
Oh man, all those great comments have disappeared after your account got hacked. Such a shame. Glad you got your account back so fast though and with better security on place. Can't wait to see more and more and more😊😊🤙🏽🤙🏽
All the songs from the album Toxicity are amazing and I know them when I was a kid. Rly like when someone is introduced with their art and have a good time 😊. Keep up with the great work.
i can't say how refreshing it is to see a lady be so genuine and open minded. this was a ton of fun. way to be vulnerable and put yourself out there with something you have never experienced before.
I was quite curious to see how you'd breakdown down System of a Down's "Toxicity." It's a rather unusual song. SoaD was the first Armenian-American band I was introduced to. Their sound is so distictive, you know it's an SoaD song after just a few notes. And you did a most excellent job! At some point down the road (not too far down hopefully) I'd like to see your breakdown of SoaD's song "Aerials" ( ua-cam.com/video/L-iepu3EtyE/v-deo.html ). You liked Toxicity, so "Aerials" would be right up your alley. 😉
Hello. I saw two of your videos by chance😊. I must say that I felt very good about your reactions. You have a good knowledge of music and this helps you to understand the events in the music very well and convey it to the viewer. 😍 Also, it is very respectful that you stop at the peak of the music and apologize to the viewer afterwards. I am from Iran and I translated this text with Google Translate and I don't know how much it was able to translate my words correctly, but in short I had a lot of fun and your reaction is very lovely.❤❤❤❤
When the second verse starts at 10:28 , I enjoy the guitarist, Daron, whispering the vocals in unison with Serj's singing voice. I once tried to describe Serj's voice like a tapered paint brush. It is wide enough for powerful strokes, yet fine-tipped for precision in a higher register. The tapered edge leaves a lot of room to try all sorts of effects - as is evident to the listener in just about any single song sung by Serj. My favorite part of your reactions though? I have learned so, so much about voice/singing in general! Thank you.
I'll just say, Hi Jen!! I hope you have a great week! I'll repeat a previous comment of mine, you are so professional that you can analyze anything. Take care.
Jen! There's so much in System of a Down's discography for you to discover. One of their trademark sounds is the incredible harmonies between Serj and Daron, and I think they absolutely perfected that in their two 2005 albums (Hypnotize & Mezmerize) Some songs I'd suggest from those albums are: "Question!" "Hypnotize" "Holy Mountains" and "BYOB"
Serj and Daron (guitarist) both have great voices an even though this sing is all Serj, they duet beautifully on some songs. I highly recommend their song "Question!" for a great example.
im so glad for everone (especially professional vocalists), who listen to SOAD, Rammstein and the likes for the first time and share the reaction. always a big delight :D
Rock bands don't typically have "great singers", they have intriguing singers who have a particular sound that FITS with the band and gives the music a particular signature.
IMHO the ending was clearly inspired by a song named "Il ballo di San Vito" by Vinicio Capossela. It's based on the rithim of "Pizzica", a very old sicily dance. It's a quite famous movie soundtrack : il 7 e l'8
Nice to watch yor new video! you have so much to discover of SOAD and Serj Tankian. Want to recommend Serj' performance of song Gate 21 live with orchestra, he is showing nice vocals there
your comments are so insightful, it is incredible to see an analytical mind digest all the elements of the piece as well as appreciate the song as a whole < 3 i'd love to hear your thoughts on aerials by SOAD!! i subscribed and i can't wait to see more of your content!!
When it comes to the ending, it is definitely a bit odd and jarring -- and that's emblematic of SOAD's music. They're all incredibly talented musicians and performers, but they are also very quirky and off-beat from time to time with their songwriting and performance, sometimes even to the point of being a little bit comical. It's definitely a style you don't hear too often from what would otherwise be considered a group of very "serious" musicians. At any rate, there is really no other artist like SOAD, and no other vocalist like Serj. I really enjoyed your reaction to this song and I highly recommend you check out more from them. Songs like Chop Suey, Aerials, and BYOB will be common recommendations, and they're very good, but I think Spiders is a great one to check out as well, especially if you want to hear more of the "beautiful" side of their music and vocals.
I suggest all of their songs obviously. But byob (bring your own bombs) chop suey(suicide chopped in half) and Aerials. All of their songs are very deep in meaning and are meant to kind of sound like gibberish first listen.

SOAD has an amazing discography on many levels...they are of Armenian decent, and they gained much of their popularity during the early years of the War on Terror...so they are highly political and philosophical...Serj's voice to me always sounded like he uses the intonation of a Muslim doing a call to prayer...it's a really unique sound we don't hear often in western music...where you get the pitch changes, sustains, and vibrato at the same time...
To me Serj is not a singer that will belt in the 5th octave, but is more musical and will use numerous techniques, intonations, resonance, etc. to convey the message. Also I have always called SoaD the kings of musical transitions, as this is their biggest strength and what separates them for the more generic bands.
