I was thinking that's got to be worth $400 then you said it. It's worth it, you're buying a work of art not just any old bowl. Absolutely stunning.
Couldn’t agree more, thanks!
not only that but epoxy is expensive as hell
I can’t help but see the acrylic as the ocean and the wood as the land masses. It’s like some world globe.
I will do it in blue next time, thanks 🙏
@@SpragueWoodturning oh, I think the green is perfect as is.
I think it’s really great to see how the resin opens up a whole new channel of creative possibilities.
The beauty of the grain of the wood is always king! The lightly stained resin enhances the natural beauty of the bowl and I love this very much. Your wife would have been brilliant if she claimed this bowl. The pictures taken in the snow are stunning and bring out the natural beauty. Really enjoyed watching this one.
This bowl is gorgeous! The burl has so much character. The epoxy is a pretty color and I love that it is translucent. This bowl is a winner all around. I think it is now my favorite bowl.
Thank you so much!
Your bowls are beyond words. I have never seen anything so beautiful this bowl looks like faces were painted on the inside!! Wow! Awesome!!!
Thanks 😊
That has to be one of the best resin burl bowls I have ever seen turned! One of the things I like so much about your bowls compared to other wood turners is that you leave more wood on the bowls. I don't know why a lot of other wood turners make them a lot thinner
I’m with you, I like a bowl with some mass, especially one that’s this small. It has a good weight to it and it’s not fragile either! Thanks.
Wood! Always! It makes the kitchen alive, warm and people at home in it 👍🏼
You got that right!
$300-$400 is a steal for Art like that. Cheers.
I think is a good price, thanks.
_"I am happy with that."_ Biggest understatement of the year. *Brilliant finish, love it.*
Lol, thanks!
That's a piece of art. It should not be cheap or done fast - It's simply BEAUTIFUL 😍
Thanks 🙏
I can't call a vase, but one word is enough ...... Great!!!👍👍👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
Definitely worth way more than $400, the talent started shining with your second epoxy turn
Can’t argue that, thanks!
Burls and resin, a match made in heaven!
It’s certainly a way to save those offcuts. Thanks.
Nice rhyme!
If this was my second project and it turned out this absolutely gorgeous, I would be jumping and screaming and running in circles with how proud I was of myself!!! You are unbelievably talented! Amazing!
Thanks 🙏
😃😍Absolutely stunning ❤️👍.
If your wife claims it..what a lucky lady. Really enjoyed this
😊 thank you, its all her's, lol.
COMBINATION of wood and resin makes it more durable and beautiful
It sure does, thanks
Absolutely gorgeous! Definitely a competitor for more traditional glass ware wedding gifts.
Yes it is, I sell a lot of wedding bowls, thanks
It’s a scientific fact most left handed people are artistic, beautiful work, greetings from Ireland.
Correct! I’ve also seen a lot of actors being left handed as well, Jim.
As a Canadian living abroad in Germany
trying to get great English Instructional videos and being new to both wood turning and epoxy these have been great help. Your work is very inspiring, although there is a lot to take in , I hope to try my first epoxy and burl bowl soon once I have acquired all the right materials. So thanks for the details, and links.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!
That bowl is well worth $400. It is a piece of art. I would pay that in a heartbeat, air bubble makes no negative difference.
Thanks 😊
Hey I love the new resin projects. Between you
Doug and Kim I’m getting tons of corona virus entertainment keep up the great work look forward to seeing what you do next. Also my son has been depressed being an only child this situation we are all in has hit him hard socially. He is 9. He loves this wood turning and resin stuff so thanks for that!👍
Doug and Kim are great, I’m an only child and loved it, haha. It probably would of been tough being locked up without being able to see friends tho so I feel for him! Anyway I will do my best to keep him and you entertained during COVID! Stay safe!
Love maple burl wood! This piece is gorgeous.
Thanks 🙏
Really love the translucent green with the maple. It's such an interesting wood, and the translucent shows it off. A thing after beauty❤
Thank you very much!
I lke the transparent green - seeing the burl edges is so cool
Totally, thanks!
I stumbled upon this video this morning and subbed immediately. Your bowl is utter perfection, I just love it! The possibilities are endless.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely stunning, the amount of work involved is superb.fantastic work
Thanks 🙏
Gorgeous bowl! I love how I can see faces in the wood. That color is seriously amazing!
Great job! Bravo
Thank you so much 😀
I can see definitely see placing your work in a museum.
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful artistry - the bowl is amazing and watching you create it is so therapeutic.
Thanks Chris!
बहुत सुन्दर
I am so impressed! By starting to use resin, you have expanded your options as far as creating. I love the light green color + pearl you chose for this resin; it was a perfect compliment to the Maple burl. This was only your second attempt at resin, and you just nailed it! Perfection. No wonder "Mama" snagged it...it is gorgeous!
She keeps all the good ones, 😜😜 thanks.
@@SpragueWoodturning Smart lady!!
(Designer epoxy) love the clarity in this bowl. you've got me hooked.
Great to hear! Thanks
Interesting to see this second bowl after seeing many of your later wood/resin pieces and how much you've learned since this bowl.
Thanks for watching
I can't believe how beautiful this bowl ended up! What an amazing job! 💜
Thanks again Tracey!
This bowl is absolutely stunning. It is worth the $400 price you casually mentioned.
Thanks Scott!
It is amazing. The bees
wax works wonders
man you do some cool stuff. I did my first bowl in 1966 and its the only one I ever did, I still have it after my parents both passed on, your doing some cool; stuff, Keep up the great work
Thanks!
I would treasure something like this, so thank you for letting us watch as you created it.
It was my pleasure, thanks for watching.
That is BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks 😊
You can add diatomaceous earth to the mineral oil and wax to make a fine sanding paste that is less expensive than the commercial products. I buy it at the farm supply store where I get the bees wax granules. Bowl very nice, well done. You are definitely gaining on that learning curve!
Thanks for the info Valerie.
True! And good suggestion.
I used "pierre ponce" as for french varnish or even wax patina as on restoration of old furnitures. Yu must use it with parcimony and clean it after application. (with alcohol 99` applied very quickly with a pad in order not to burn the varnish. Obtain a vanishing "cloud" by landing on wood and movinge fast before yu leave the surface)
I especially love your inclusive vernacular. This bowl is, I think my personal favorite.
Thank you very much!
I dearly love your videos! No BS just a lot of great information, great ideas, and beautiful bowls. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Gorgeous finish, Jim. Nice to see the burl bits get a new life!
It always made me a little sick to through theses pieces in the wood stove, now I can save them! Thanks.
Ive got to say that across all the You tube Wood turning videos ,that this is the prettiest bowl Ive seen. The light green with the light maple and the pattern of the wood is just gorgeous.Well done!
Thank you 😊
Another ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC job!
Thanks!
This bowl is beautiful; I love your subtle use of color and shimmer. Truly exceptional.
It does glow under a black light or UV light, I didn’t have one when I made this video but I now do, it’s actually pretty cool, thanks.
Love, love, love the colour combo! So happy the acrylic is translucent _ this reminds me of sea and sand
Me too!! Thanks!
You create masterpieces left to you by the Master.
Very true, thanks 🙏
Very nice. Did not think I would like the green. With the green being a light color and the pearl, it turned out nice
Thank you very much!
I think you’ve knocked it off this time Jim, looks absolutely spot on keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thanks, I really like this style of bowl with resin, I plan on making more!
A stunning bowl Jim! These resin bowls open up a whole new direction for your amazing talent!
It sure does, thanks!
I Want It!!!!! And it absolutely does not need to glow in the dark.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful combination of the burl and the resin!! As always: Nice work!!
Thank you very much
I just found you on UA-cam and I absolutely love your videos. Congratulations on all of your projects, they are awesome. Really beautiful work.
Welcome aboard! Thanks
Thank you for your detailed engagement/explanation through the entire process. Really informative, especially for me being a newbie.
Great! Thanks 🙏
Absolutely beautiful bowl, love the inside shape of the burl
Thank you very much!
I think what you do is amazing. This is the 2nd video that I have watched and I could watch them all day. Your work is truly amazing.
Thanks Carolyn!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks 🙏
i just came across your video and I must say your work is exquisite. You are very detailed in your video which really helps to see why things are done a certain way. The final product is just breathtaking and an inspiration to what I have been wanting to take on myself. I will definitely subscribe and get some wonderful pointers from your work. I am just in love with your projects!
Thank you Judith, I really appreciate it!
Wow , that is lovely 👍🏻 ultra modern .
Thanks 🙏
Today is the first time I saw you working on your resin bowls. They are beautiful. I usually watch Nick Zammeti and Ben's Work and you are right there with them. Keep up the good work. Be blessed.
Awesome, thank you very much!
Absolutely stunning, thank you for sharing! Can't wait to see more!
Thanks Nicole!
Beautiful bowl ! I think that’s pretty amazing for your second attempt! Again thanks for sharing your craftsmanship with us!
Thanks Randy!
I lied on another video. THIS is my favorite!
Lol. Thank you very much!
Stunning Jim wood art at its finest
Thank you very much!
Really enjoyed watching your learning curve. Nice looking bowl though. As you say this opens endless possibilities. Enjoy the ride! 😃 Keep safe and well.👍👍
Thanks Clive!
Beautiful bowl. Good job.. Stay safe and take care. 😺❤
Thanks 😊
Have you ever seen those burls they pull out of the Florida swamps? That's what this reminds me of! That slightly murky, green water with all this eldritch looking wood in it. Such a lovely piece and remarkable for only a second resin project :)
Thank you very much! This coming week I use some mystery burl that looks like it might of come out of a swamp. Those burls in Florida sound interesting. Jim
Seriously - I keep coming back to this one. It has to be my favourite of yours. Just stunning!
Awesome, thanks!
That turned out absolutely awesome, Jim!! Especially for only your second resin bowl! Gorgeous piece!!
It’s still a work in progress, thanks.
Absolutely stunning work.
Thanks 😊
I think you are pretty hard on yourself. It's a very beautiful bowl! a lot of work goes into something like this!I can appreciate your effort & the end result. I'll be looking forward to your next project!
Thanks Roger, I’ve got lots of resin casting videos now, thanks for watching!
I think the drill helped a lot to me but your the best in my book.
Thanks!
Lots of work payed off-it really is beautiful! Suggest giving it to Mama for Christmas... with love ❤️❣️ Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
She’s already claimed it, haha. Thanks.
Cool project 👍👍👍
I’ll buy one of these from you. Thanks for throwing a price range out.
Thanks, I hope to have them for sale this year.
@@SpragueWoodturning Sign me up for one of those too! lol!!
Another perfect one of a kind by Jim.
Thanks 😊
Thinking of starting a small business in Ukraine. Now I am convinced, not that I'll be going down the resin path but this video is wonderful
The resin is hot right now. I have a waiting list and need to purchase another pressure pot. Thanks 🙏
Awesome, it's so beautiful.
Thanks 🙏
Per your request, a shop tour would be nice.
Got it, thanks.
Hi... I have watched this video 3 times from start to finish and the color green is by far my favorite color combination. It is so natural looking and beautiful..
Thanks Larry!
From one artist to another , I just want to say, jaw dropingly gorgeous. Amazingly creative! 👏👏👏
Awesome, thank you so much!
Hey Jim, GORGEOUS bowl! That’s an excellent bowl for your second round with resin!
I’m certainly no expert in turning resin but, my process is sand up to 600 grit, then use an abrasive paste (I use Acks but, any would work), then use some sort of finish process. I’ve used OB Shine Juice, Acks Polishing paste, even hard bar carnauba wax. All of them work and have their place, in my opinion. I think the abrasive paste used prior to using the salad bowl finish would remove any imperfections, especially in the tight radius you were having trouble getting into. Then using your beeswax/mineral oil paste with the steel wool would help buff out any imperfections from the salad bowl finish.
Anyway, plenty of experts out there that could perhaps share other tips. I just thought I’d throw in my 2 cents.
Can’t wait for next weeks project! Take care!
Seth
Great info! Thanks.
Jim. Love the possibilities for this peice. I was thinking about my dining room light. A tired stain glass with lightbulbs inside. Relpacing the glass with a larger version of your bowl would make an interesting fixture. Dan
Yes, it sure would, give it a try! Thanks
媽媽at
This is the most beautiful bowl I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning.
Thanks 😊
Fabulous job Jim, and don't worry about the bubble, everyone needs a bubble right now, bubbles are good 😉
Your right the bubble is the place to be, thanks.
Good man:>) Thanks for being a great man, your a Beautiful person This has been a public message from Canada 2021.
Lol, thanks eh!
That was sweet!
My 2 cents, don't get caught up on the swirl's just wet sand systematically all the way up to 2000 atleast, keeping it good and lubed. Then spin that polish with the drill attachment, I would not use the steel wool for the risk of the metal fragments and rust later on.
I love your idea to just glow the burls! Did you pre charge the glow with a black light? Maybe extend the uv charge a little longer because it's inside the epoxy, was such a neat idea 💡
I look forward to seeing more videos thanks!
In later videos I’ve sorted out any problem that I encountered in this video. At the time I didn’t have a UV light but do now, so when you charge it under the light it does glow, next time I will add a lot more glow pigment, thanks.
You have come a long way. It’s a beautiful bowl
Thanks so much!
Your creative wood turning work is be-You-T-full. Thx 4 sharing your artistic skills.
Thanks for watching!
It turned out beautiful, Jim! It reminds me of an old nautical map. Great job! Your camera takes really good videos. Can you tell me what brand it is? Thank you!
Thanks! It’s actually a GoPro 7. The pictures at the end are from my iPhone 8+. I just recently bought a Sony 5100 and will be using it in upcoming videos as well. Jim.
I was going to say that looking down into the bowl reminded me of a kind of reverse world map. Also saw lots of people...
Ain't that beautiful!... looks like Continents floating around the sea - was that what you had in mind when you conceived of it ?
Something like that, lol. I was just really looking for most effective way to use the burl pieces. Jim
You are just a great specialist!
Thank you for the beauty that you create with your own hands!
Kharkov Ukraine, Eduard Ihnatov.
Awesome! Thanks Eduard from the Ukraine!
@@SpragueWoodturning Thank you maestro ...
That is another beautiful bowl. Karen said Wow. I think it's over the top
It’s a beaut!
I literally caught my breath when you said that you used that as firewood! Woodworkers are a weird bunch, to say the least.
I’ve only got so much room and my wood hoarding is getting out of control, lol.
Beautiful I do not see any swirl marks. A great design great color turned out great one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen
@@SpragueWoodturning I'd love to have some of the cutoffs you have when you rounded the pieces. I'll pay for shipping to me if you have any extra little pieces.
@@davidicenhower8803 sorry, I will be keeping them for future projects, Jim.
Absolutely stunning piece of craftsmanship. The green epoxy works seamlessly with the burled wood, giving a real organic look. I would love to own one of these prized bowls. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Being British I tend to be quite reserved when it comes to showing emotion, I'm also quite quick to criticise imperfection. So I hope you can understand that when I say that this bowl could be the most beautiful piece of wood turning I've ever seen I'm not sycophantically giving praise over something mediocre.
The colours just work together so nicely, the shapes suits the material incredibly well, and the ratio of wood burl to resin is perfect...... The only problem I see is that I fear you're going to have your work cut out making another wood and resin bowl that is as artistically stunning as this.
Wow, thank you so much for your kind comments! It was a fun project and I’m learning more every time I do one of theses bowls. Your right, the pressures on to make the perfect project, lol. Thanks again.
@@SpragueWoodturning No pressure unless you make it that way. I say just keep having fun with the joy of creating!
There are some real talented people out there in the world This is a thing of real beauty and I loved watching the creative process it took to get to the finished work of art
Thanks 🙏🏻
I like the Phantom Pearl whirl. Super pretty bowl
Thanks 😊
👏👏👏👍Vcs deveriam postar preço pois saberíamos quanto vale + ou - aqui ok
Thanks
I did it myself thanks to Stodoys.
Stodoys??
Did a lot of wood and leather work 40 years ago. Used a lot of "Johnson Paste Wax" worked good for us back then.🌿

I love the soft green.
Thanks 😊
